At the time, I actually didn't realize that this episode was inspired by the events of 9/11, even though it wasn't the first episode of a PBS series to be based on such. That honor goes to the Season 33 opener of Sesame Street (Episode 3981) which first aired on Monday February 4, 2002. Which also featured members of the New York City Fire Department as guest stars.

I always loved this episode, as a kid and even now as an adult.
When I was 9 I was in a car accident with my mom and I started to become anxious like Arthur did in the episode. One day, not long after it happened, this episode came on, on a rerun and I remember relating so much to Arthur and his fear of his dad getting hurt, like how I was afraid for my mom.
I started doing the basket thing, for a few months. I never told my mom why, I think she was confused why I started to do it but the first few months after the accident it helped a lot. People kinda... forget kids can go through stuff so young.
I remember, someone told me "Oh, but your fine now"
No, I wasn't. I was scared, because our car almost tipped over fully, due to some idiots driving with a map spread out on their windshield to find the mall. I was angry, because we could've died.
I remember the way, these college students looked when I poked my head out of the car and they realized there had been a little kid in the car.
There had been 3 boys and a girl and the girl started crying, saying "We almost killed a little girl!!!"

I was in 1st grade when this happened, so watching it and having it explained to me on a childs field is what helped my cope and remember. I didn’t realize this was a 9/11 reference. I was in 1st grade in a school in south Florida when 9/11 happen and was oblivious about it. I was under the assumption that it was an older event. 9/11 was one of those events that used to frustrated me because at one point it was an assignment to write about how we felt about the event and I know no emotion behind. Classmates were in New York or DC when it happens but that particular day was just any other day. Don’t remember watching the news or an announcement on the loud speaker. Now I have a more sympathetic feeling for the event after living in DC and going to the Memorial Park. HIGHLY RECOMMEND going if you get the opportunity… the easter eggs in the park are really touching and a lot of thought is put into it.

I've seen a fire before. I also put some sticks in the fire to. so if they're was a fire, the only things I would be worried about would be my two best friends. idc what a adult says, IM. GOING. IN. I'm not gonna let my bff's die. I rather die than let them die. they are my world.

This episode is looking more as a sho*t incident in school.
I had the experience 2 years ago, we had a little incident in a amusement park I worked, and that day I was good, trying to help, couple days later we had a "training" and I really feel the experience, I feel so empathy with kids and family when they had the real stuff.

When I was in summer school of my 8th grade year. I read this book that takes place in the 60s and it’s about a black family who goes on a road trip to visit their grandma in Alabama. The reason was because the main protagonist’s older brother was getting into a lot of trouble. As they make it to Alabama, the mom was so excited to see her mom. In the middle of the story, the boy tells his grandma that he doesn’t want to go to Sunday school since it’s his last day of visiting her and decides to drop off his sister. But before that, the grandma gifted the little girl some shoes that she can wear for Sunday school. After he dropped her off, the boy was chilling outside when he hears something that exploded. His parents and grandma heard that it was coming from the Sunday school and they tell the boy to stay as his older brother was coming. The big thinks that this can be his chance to prove that he’s brave. So he sees the disaster and he tries to find his little sister and thought she didn’t make it since he saw a little girl who’s dead and her shoes were similar to what the boy’s sister wore. The boy then goes to his grandma’s house and he thought his sister died but she comes. The mom was very worried and the girl tells her family that she’s fine. Like this actually happened in real life, FYI
