I HATE GUITAR STORES LOL!!!!

  • I seriously hate guitar stores sometimes lol, good ones that is! I dropped off my Solar to have set up and did what seems to almost ALWAYS cost me money...walked out to the showroom. What was waiting for me to make eye contact with out there by all of the amps and cabs was one of the sought after pieces of early 90s death metal history...the Crate GX130C. I immediately went to the owner and asked what he was doing with it because it had no price tag on it. He was going to list it on Reverb, but didn't want to if he had someone like me come in the door and save him the hassle of listing, shipping, etc. Soon as I plugged it in and dialed in what I was looking for in tone I was hooked. So he took really good care of me on that amp, and now I have the sound that I grew up on and just love in my playing style. I'll always dig and favor the old school death metal and it's sound vs these modern amps. Now I got me another room amp, and also the power for jamming with a full band(which is coming up soon). We will dive into this amp in a future video, but I just had to share this one with you guys. Thank you so much for watching and supporting homies!!!

I love finding out thrashed out amps. a lot of people I work on music with are pretty snobby about the shit they use, they're dead set on using digital modelling or some high dollar tube amp. The face they make when they realize how good an old Crate or an old Peavey sounds is always priceless.

I have a huge pile of Crate amps lol. *I just scored a Crate GX212 for $70, and these perform a fair bit better than the head version I've owned for about 28 years.*
My tube gear has better note separation and definition when shredding bassy, clustered arpeggios, *but Crates have always been underrated and unfairly bashed.*
I have a Boss Katana MKII 50, and the beater GX212 I came home will outperforms it.
*These even by today's sounds a wicked metal amp.*
My formal background is in the science of electrical/electronics engineering, and I'm knee deep into an original design that will settle the debate IMHO. I will have a 100% solid state original design by the end of this year. By focusing on a fuzz distortion, I can overcome the limits of SS edge, raunch and sleaze that's overly shrouded with really high even order harmonics; that cliche static sound of swish and froth that robs us of clarity. A few other specific details in the design, and I should be able to *truly* match valve definition and separation everyone always claimed to have for decades.
Long term goal is that design on the commercial market for a few hundred instead of the few grand it takes to get that from a tube rig.

That's pretty sick my dude!! Think it's cool that you dig on a lot of the same gear(80-90s Ibanez, JacksonsJackson's. Solid state heads) though I have to admit, only have owned (2) B.C. Rich Guitars; '03 NJ Series Warlock- Blue Quilt Top, '03 or '04 NJ Series Virgin- Black [both had the licensed Floyd Rose's]. They both did play great, but on they also [both] had the same con/flaw, well not really a flaw, but definitely a major con for me at that time for me at my playing. Were the pointy horn parts where the side of my elbow would rest. Remember spending close to 3 hrs just doing adjustments on the strap, did come close. Was only uncomfortably painful when standing an playing, lol sitting an playing never even touched those parts of the horn(s).
Looking back now, it's a pain to even find a Assassin (I don't even care about which model, I'm a tech so I can always mod/upgrade anything I find lol)
Out here in ARIZONA, can't find any NJ Series or hell, any model of the Platinum Versions
My apologies for my geekness turning into a book on your page 😆
    Another great 👍🏻 vid buddy

Oh man, I love me some crate! The first amp I bought myself was an ampeg sst I found on reverb, which was just a preamp so I needed something to run it through, and found a nice crate bx440 in my area I got and wow that is a lot of power for a guitar! Running it through a bass cab sounds really cool, so much low end! I once accidentally turned it on when it wasn't plugged into the speakers and my heart sank, I thought I broke it, but my friends told me that only happens with tube amps, and it's still working to this day so I guess I lucked out on that one. One of these days I'm gonna have to try and find a crate shockwave, because a 300 watt guitar amp just sounds like too much fun to pass up!

The early Crates stunk. I think that is why they got shit on later. But I had a '91 or '92 G120C(decent chorus BTW for clean). Ended up getting a 212 extension cab loaded with(and I didn't know til years later when I opened it) Nice 85 watt Celestions which they later determined(and changed the model number to 100) were 100 watt. I still have the cabinet which I custom sparkle painted a couple years ago. I sold the amp to a pawn shop in the early 2000's. The amp had a new technology called Tube Flex Circuitry I believe. And like yours, when cranked wide open...had that punchy tube sound. I dug the amp. 👍

I play a crate bass cabinet with 2 15 inch eminence speakers, it sounds monstrous. Far more balls than any 10 inch speaker could deliver. I use a carvin bass head to drive it. It's so heavy sounding. I like to think of the whole band sound as like a back alley beating. I want the bass to be like a massive brick wall with the guitar snarling fear and intimidation into the heart of its victims as the drums just kick the listeners ass till their ribs are shattered

AWESOME ! Have you seen MONSON guitars? Great amp. That was my first amp ever besides a fender push button multichannel practice amp.

My currently use the crate blue voodoo with a metal zone as a front drive, I like it better than my triple rectifier.

Yea man I’ve always loved crate amps ever since the mid 90’s. My first actually really good amp was an 80 watt crate 1x12 combo with a tube preamp and I’ve spent hours over the years trying to figure out what model it was so i can buy another but I have yet to find it. I have mesa’s, victory’s, Dr Z’s etc but I’d sell them all for that one crate I bought for $250 when I was 15….. I share the same obsession with BC rich guitars also from being a broke metal head when I was younger. Nothing makes me happier than a bronze warlock with new strings 🤘😂🤘

hate to tell you. The gig world has changed. No one uses amps anymore.... Just about every venue (as least in Central Florida) runs everything through front of house. We mostly use modelers like Kemper, Quad Cortex, Helix, etc. If you see an amp on stage it's usually only for monitoring or to look cool. Even the major acts have switched to modelers. I use the Quad Cortex. It's awesome because I can run 3 or 4 different $10,000 rigs with the push of a button.
