Beautiful islands are not only the ones with coconut trees or coral reefs. Madeira does offer a different perspective of what a paradise truly can be. It's a mixture of a beach and mountain destination with so much to offer and impecable service in what concerns accomodation and gastronomy. I'm really impressed. Madeira entered my bucket list.

wow, truly incredible list and masterful editing and narration! I think the island should be paying you for this! I had started looking into Madeira as a possible vacation spot before covid... so travel kind of got put on hold there for a while. I broke up with my girlfriend during that time and my life went in a different direction. sold everything and moved to Mexico. anyways, you two are very lucky that you have been able to call this place home. I cant imagine doing all these things in a lifetime but some of them you have done dozens of times! congrats, you have much more energy (and money!) than me.

I lived on Terceria for two years. Visited Sao Miguel. I'm writing these days and I bet I could undisturbed write there. Then go around as guided.
Azores is also a great place for writing. Maybe even better than Madeira as the weather isn't as good, so you are more inclined to be inside, but Madeira is most definitely also a great place to write. Enjoy it when you get here! And good luck on the writing.

The wife and I went and stayed at the Quinta de casa branca. The hotel made the holiday, we were treated like royalty. We will definitely be going back

Hire a Renault Twizzy from City Bubbles and head up the mountain and through the long tunnel to Curral das Freiras - Valley if the Nuns.
Have lunch at a restaurant where they will charge up your electric buggy and then wander the village - before heading to the old road for a spectacular view back over the valley.

However, I have lived in many Industrialized and third world countries for extended periods. In each country in order to do business I had to pay a monthly "tribute " to the local extortion captain.
Is this a thing to be prepared for in Lisbon or some of the other cities?

Vila do Peixe is nice and also in our guide, but A Traineira is the best in our opinion. The quality just seems a tad higher, but in the end it's all subjective! :)

Madeirans are very far from a progressive, tolerant society and are very attached to an old, very backwards, uneducated way of living but the island has great infrastructure, absurd natural beauty and much dignity. Couldn't be more the opposite from Portugal mainland.
