Nice video, but totally wrong named.
Your video is located at the western side of the water named Zaan. A stream that was created by water flowing from the peat lands to the salty Zuiderzee, now sweetwater IJsselmeer. This is the village Zaandijk. The Zaanse Schans is the eastern side of the Zaan water. The majority of the buildings in your video are at the original location where they were constructed. But some are not old. Your opening shot is portraying a couple of houses constructed around 2013 on the land that was vacant after a large candy factory, named "Goedhart snoepfabriek" was demolished and cleared. I was married in 1977 in the historical old Town hall of Zaandijk, opposite the statue garden near the old orphanage. I live in the neighborhood and was able to trace my ancesters to 1605 in Zaandijk.
The Zaanse Schans (on the opposite site of the stream) has it's name of the 80 years war against the Spanish Crown. In 1754 there were several redoubts made along the Zaan and the "Kalverschans" now "Zaanse Schans" was the redoubt where the Spanish troops were defeated en driven into the swamps nearby.
In the 1960's there were many historical wooden buildings and windmills that had to be demolished because of new roads, housings etc. A reserve was created on The Zaanse Schans. Wooden buildings and even windmills can be taken apart and transported with a certain ease. So they were all transported to where they are now and where is taken care of them in a good way. The present (industrial) windmills are placed on "original" locations where in the 19th and 20th centuries the windmills were demolished or caught fire by accident. It are windmills to grind pigments, spices etc, windmills that saw wood, windmills that pres (linseed)oil. There is even a windmill that makes paper. The first printed edition of the USA constitution was printed on paper of a similar windmill, just next to the still present windmill.
The reservation was my playground as a kid.
