Takeo Masaki yes he is. Why would she call him Loki after the Nordic god the people who were the sworn enemies of the giants. And there are a lot of things in the game that hint towards him being the trickster god.
The moment I saw mistletoe, I realized Atreus is Loki. I'm Norwegian and know Norse mythology, so it was a bit obvious. A lot in the game is, when you know the story. The creators decided to utilize the fact that Odin and Frigg are mirrored in Od (Oðr) and Freya. It's Frigg who is the mother of Baldr, but in the game it's Freya. Frigg and Freya are probably the same person, same as Odin and Oðr, so it's a clever sleight of hand that obscured it a bit for me.
@@uzairansari9222 Baldr was plagued by dreams of his own death, so his mother Frigg (Odin is his father) travels the land and makes everyone and literally everything promise they will never hurt Baldr. Frigg does not ask this of the tiny mistletoe, for it is so small and innocent. Later, all the gods attack Baldur with all sorts of stuff, because it does nothing. Baldr's blind brother Hod fires an arrow that Loki has laid on his bow, an arrow of mistletoe. It kills Baldr. So it's massaged for this story, but most Norwegians will remember the connection between Loki, the mistletoe and Baldur. Loki kills Baldur with the mistletoe.

@@TheKat12364 Oh man, if anyone was ever upset over inconsistencies in Norse, they need to find some other stories. These things are a ragged carpet held together by small pieces of strings. Odin and Od is PROBABLY the same person, and it's all just such an amalgamation of germanic and nordic folk lore that it's basically just to have cool stories to tell our kids about how the earth was made. So, absolutely no worries! It helps to understand the material it's made from.
Daniel The part were Kratos is painted is not actually a reference to the “fear skin” but it’s how pottery of ancient greece were painted. The part were he says “I hoped a troll was under the bridge” is probably because trolls live under the bridges. A lot of these “easter eggs” were not even easter eggs
I'm a new player and I've only just started to clear the black breath. I've played the other Gow games but this games lore and playstyle is phenomenal! I'm very much enjoying my game time with this!
This is very irrelevant to your comment, but, I thought there was a hair on my screen because of your profile pic XD Well, anyways, damn legend indeed.
"Can I change into an animal? " Sure, it implies that Atreus is indeed Loki but have y'all forgotten that Atreus is also Zeus's grandson? And that Zeus also had the ability to shapeshift? That's why I took Kratos's reaction to the question into a way that he may have actually realized that the boy might have inherited his granddad's powers or I dunno, what do you guys think?
I think it was suppose to be a humorous moment where Kratos is just flabber-gasted that that was the first thing he thought of when being told he was a god. I think that was the last response Kratos thought he was gonna hear from that bomb shell. lol
I've already beaten the game so it doesn't really bother me but I think it was kinda... odd to put the spoiler warning AFTER you show the Blades Of Chaos. lmao
I've 100% completed this game. Got the platinum trophy for it as well. I'm just upset that there is no more for me to do whilst I wait years for the next game to release. It is a masterpiece.
I know I'm late to the party but I just finished my first playthrough and omg I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of the graphics and gameplay, soooooo damn good. I am now so heavily invested in this series
I have a theory that Kratos will kill Thor at some point and wield mjolnir, maybe half way through the story, it would also be a good excuse to level up another weapon which I’m all for!
I'm literally still trying to beat sigrun on give me god of war Alright I finally did it. I feel like I should be full of joy but honestly I'm just numb
Jourdan Wolf he can see why the game developers included a song his own mother used to sing to him as a child? That makes no sense unless the developers created the game especially for him and knew about that song being part of his childhood. It’s not like it’s a common song to sing to your children
Deem Sleep I think what it means was if his mother sang it to him, as he is most likely similar ages to the developers then the developers mothers probably sang it to them too
SPOILERS MY DUDES;; I started REALLY guessing Atreus was Loki when he was given the mistletoe arrows. I love Norse mythology so I got really excited when that happened. By that time we already know that the Stranger is Baldr - and in Norse myth, Baldr’s “Achilles’ heel” is mistletoe, and he is killed when Loki tricks a blind brother into shooting him with a mistletoe arrow. So that lowkey gave it away for me?? I just fricking love this game and its attention to detail. Little things like that only add to the whole experience. God damn it’s good.
He also tells a story about a stag (which I don't remember exactly) but the story is almost definitely referring to him selling his soul to Ares to win the battle against the Barbarian King.
Also when you fully upgrade the blades after getting the item for beating Surtur trials (and the Valkirye) you unlock the trophy called "why fight it" which is the line that Surtr uses in Thor Ragnarok when Thor is chained sideways
@Mann Holloway After you beat them and the Valkyrie for the first time, they give you new challenges to beat. There are 6 swords and each of them have just 1 challenge this time. They are essentially just harder versions of the other challenges you did. If you beat at least 3 of them you have enough keys to do the final challenge which is where the Valkyrie was. The final challenge is 1 of 3 challenges at random where depending on how good you do will affect your reward. If you can't get the bronze reward you can retry.
It’s definitely just a coincidence though because Cory Balrog was asked during that speed question interview what he thought of Thor Ragnarok and he said he still hadn’t seen it. I guess maybe he could’ve later added but I doubt it.
Kratos will kill Thor, and merge his Axe with Mjolnir makeing Stormbreaker! :D And Odin would kidnap Atreus/Loki, who will belive his real father died, or even betrayed him. Kratos, to get back his son, will fight and kill all the Nordic Gods, and then fight with Loki, who in anger for Odins plans will destroy all Asgard.
Ya boi Soundwave Considering Kratos killer himself with the sword of Olympus and is definitely weaker by now (or he holds back) I would guess he is now Farbauti who is Loki’s father in the Mythos
@@sezzy16 That was a prequel. took place before God of war 1. Technically there are like 7 god of war games now on PS3 (4 games) , PS4 (1 game) , and PSP (2 or 3 or 4 games I don't remember).
“There’s gonna be a God of War 5” Nooooooo, you think? I never got that impression with all the stories about Thor and Odin throughout the game, how almost every character you meet says the line “when raknarok comes” at least once and the constant references to it, how Freya threatens to get revenge on you, the fact you kill members of Thor’s family and Kratos himself says “there are consequences to killing a god”, the mural that shows a moment in Kratos and Atreus future, the setup with Loki, or the dwarfs saying it’s the beginning of the long winter before ragnarok at the end of the game. You definitely had to find the secret ending before you knew there’d be a sequel.
I know I'm kinda late on this but shortly after you finally kill Baldur, Atreaus and Kratos are talking and I don't remember exactly, but Atreaus said something like "would you let me kill you" and Kratos said "if it means that you would live, yes". So I feel like that's going to be foreshadowing for future games. Idk if I'm dumb and everyone already saw and realized that but I thought it was cool.
I think it was : Atreus: Would you let me kill you ? Kratos: If that's what you would want(or if that's what would please you) , yes. They developed a quite good relationship...too bad sad spoilers came up..
And even in the mural(wall) at the end of the game, you can can see Atreus holding unto Krato’s body and a serpent coming down from Atreus’ mouth unto Kratos. Either he’ll sacrifice himself, or Atreus will have to forcefully kill Kratos to safe himself.
A lot of the side missions for the spirits in the lake bring up moments in Krato’s past. Stuff like Atreus asking him what kind of son would kill his own father and remarking how you never truly get over the loved ones you’ve lost. Thought those little moments were really well done.
The huge scar Kratos has on his belly isn't from God of War 3, you actually shownthe footage from when he got that scar, it's at the beginning of God of War II when Zeus "Kills" Kratos and sends him to Hades down the Styx. Also the Puny reference, you could have noted that since he is Loki the joke works.
FrenchyToasty The scar is actually from GoW 3. The one that happened in 2 actually healed until GoW 3, until he decided to open it up again-because why not-in 3.
Let's not forget that in the elevator in Tyr's temple, it showed Tyr visiting different cultures, including Egypt and Japan as mentioned in the video, but also showed Tyr visiting a Central American civilization, probably the Aztecs but maybe the Maya. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd love to see Kratos vs. Aztec pantheon, maybe have a new weapon in the form of a macuahuitl (if you don't know what that is, look it up, I think it'd be a perfect weapon for some brutal combat)
Great video, Captain Buttmunch! I just finished the game on PC (on its 5th realease anniversary actually!) and I ended up completely ecstatic and amazed by this masterpiece. I'm heartbroken that I rolled credits on it, but your video made feel that there more special to it. Thank you!
I don't really consider that ending any kind of secret... The whole game Kratos talks about going home once the journey is over. After you make it to the top of the mountain he says "Now let's go home."
But when you go home, it's clear there is another threat thus, a new journey starts which leads to the sequel. It all rounds up to another complex, or better styled game.
Btw, Loki is not only the father of Jormungander, but also of Fenrir and Hela (queen of death and yes I know she is his sister in the avengers but she is his daughter in mythology)
He also has a few more unknown children with Sigyn, a goddess. Though one of his sons died since the other gods got pissed off, turned one son into a wolf and the wolf then killed the other brother - they then used the dead brother's entrails to bind Loki down to a slab of stone, put a snake above his head and left him there with the snake dripping venom onto his face. ...I know this was their revenge for Balder's death, but they went a bit overboard (BOTH sons gone? I feel bad for Sigyn since she was innocent and now childless.).
Nah fam, Loki is a parent of jormangandur, but its his mother. Because he can shapeshift, he can become a she and mother a child. its wierd, but thats what ive gotten out of like 4 different mythology books
is it just me that hates that everyone calls the godess of hel for hela? her name in norse mythology is just hel, i think the writers at marvel changed it purely so it wouldt be any confusion, and now after thor ragnakok everyone calls her hela instead of hel
+True_JoJo ...Loki is the mother of Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged horse. He's the father of Jormungand, Hel and Fenrir - their mother is a giantess called Angrboda.

Booby Chan Kratos! I've come to bargain for the 100th time. Kratos tells Atreus to stand behind him, takes the sword that Kratos used to kill himself, and stabs it through himself.
Brandon Withnell We've had a...slight number of people...uh...Quitting! Yea quitting! They all just quit are group. So what do ya say? Atreus: That sounds amazing! Thor: We already have a bow guy, I think...
CAPTAIN BUTTMUNCH! LOL. I’m playing this for the first time on my channel. Thanks so much for some of this secret info I would have never known on my own!
I wouldn't call it even a soft reboot. For me it is a sequel. Reboot implies everything that happened in previous installment(s) didn't happen in the new one.
Also another detail on Thor scene is that the first time Baldr came into their house, Kratos told Boy to hide under the house, but now Kratos tell Boy to get his bow and get ready to fight
Upon thinking back, they actually spoil a major plot point in the first 30 seconds of the game. Kratos is using the Leviathan Axe for most of the game...Leviathan is a synonym for "giant", and they spend most of the game trying to unlock travel to the realm of the Giants - and it turns out that Atreus' mother was also a Giant - her axe was literally the "Giant's Axe".
Did anyone else see in the reveal trailer that Atreus (Loki) has a six legged horse toy? He kicks it over when Kratos calls him inside.. I see what you did there Sony😏
Ghost of Tsushima makes a reference to Kratos on a certain paint for the Sakai Clan armor, and so I think it’s cool how two ghosts really recognize eachother and seeing Kratos go to Feudal Japan would be awesome
I just got a ps4 pro recently and just started this today, I can already tell the story between Kratos and Atreus will hit me in the feels. The subtle acting is superb, when Atreus had to kill a human for the first time and wanted to cry but at the same time wanted to stay strong......man this game is already special. Captain Buttmunch. Don't you think the Egyptian eye on Tyr's pannel is the eye of Ra and not the eye of Horus? the eye of Ra is a symbol of Sekhmet, who is seen as a goddess of war in Egypt. the legend goes that as Ra's was growing old as Pharaoh humans were becoming rebellious. Ra then used his eye to create Sekhmet to be his avenger and kill all those who opposed him. now that would be epic, Kratos vs Sekhmet.

"Can I change into an animal? " Sure, it implies that Atreus is indeed Loki but have y'all forgotten that Atreus is also Zeus's grandson? And that Zeus also had the ability to shapeshift? The next game should be called
God of War: Ragnarok
The final boss would be Thor and you got to fight surtr and other gods
(Edit: so I got it right 😅)
I was also thinking the same thing too and yeah, it really fits the next sequel of god of war
Surtr would be on Kratos’ side
I think Thor should be encountered first (or early) in the next game but not as a boss.

SPOILERS MY DUDES;;
I started REALLY guessing Atreus was Loki when he was given the mistletoe arrows.
ShiranuiAmmy wish i was into Norse mythology. I love getting references in games. I got most of them from the old god of war
Damn nice catch. Thanks for sharing.
You mean it "Loki" gave it away : )
Also right from the start: Faye = Laufay, and in the norse stories they sometimes called him "Loki Son of Laufay"
You mean "Loki" gave it away?
I remember hearing Kratos say “indeed” and thought it was out of character, i now know why

What about when Kratos tells the story of the tortoise and the hare. I think this is a reference to him and Hermes and God of War 3
I thought so too
He also tells a story about a stag (which I don't remember exactly) but the story is almost definitely referring to him selling his soul to Ares to win the battle against the Barbarian King.
@@KnightOfAwesometon yeah a couple days later I was in game and heard that story myself and thought the same thing
You do know that the story of the tortoise and the hare is an actual fairy-tale, right?
@@toongrowner1 yeah of course but still
Also when you fully upgrade the blades after getting the item for beating Surtur trials (and the Valkirye) you unlock the trophy called "why fight it" which is the line that Surtr uses in Thor Ragnarok when Thor is chained sideways
Wow, good catch!
totally coincidental as I've seen the scene right after completing 100% of GoW trophies
J D do you have to beat the trials twice?

And Odin would kidnap Atreus/Loki, who will belive his real father died, or even betrayed him. Kratos, to get back his son, will fight and kill all the Nordic Gods, and then fight with Loki, who in anger for Odins plans will destroy all Asgard.
That's quite interesting
This would actually be an amazing plot for the next God of War... you need to get in touch with the creator. Like seriously

I think is 6, there was another one on PS3
I think Cory told he wants to make 4 more games.
Jaco King I believe it was “would you die for me”
I think it was :
Atreus: Would you let me kill you ?
Kratos: If that's what you would want(or if that's what would please you) , yes.
They developed a quite good relationship...too bad sad spoilers came up..

And even in the mural(wall) at the end of the game, you can can see Atreus holding unto Krato’s body and a serpent coming down from Atreus’ mouth unto Kratos. Either he’ll sacrifice himself, or Atreus will have to forcefully kill Kratos to safe himself.
That’s was so clear on the secret tear. Thank you very much.
The stabbing is from GoW2 and the scar is in GoW3 get it?
actually kratos gets stabbed in the same position in both games, god of war 2 by zeus and god of war 3 by himself.
Didn't kratos also get hit with a longshot by ares?
Boris Bertin it didn't heal up fully. It did leave a scar. I remember the whole damn game, every single cutscene and part. So I am pretty sure
I want to see some alien shenanigans in that, just because. :)
Lee Peffers “secret ending “ in titles gets those clicks so people use it
Also, I know plenty of people who just stopped playing after scattering the ashes, thinking that was the end of the game.
Yeah but the game doesn't give you an objective marker to go home, it's just something you can do, or just keep exploring the world.
But when you go home, it's clear there is another threat thus, a new journey starts which leads to the sequel. It all rounds up to another complex, or better styled game.

I realised really late into the game that Atreus and Baldr aren't small. Kratos (and Freya) is just so big.
Btw, Loki is not only the father of Jormungander, but also of Fenrir and Hela (queen of death and yes I know she is his sister in the avengers but she is his daughter in mythology)
Yay, timetravel... my favorite. **tries desperately to brain self with shovel**
At the very end of the game when they spread feys ashes Atreus keeps telling you to look at something but I only see the dead giants but I’m sure there’s more to it, you might wanna investigate that
Remember the hand marked tree that Kratos cuts down in the beginning of the game? The first ledge you climb up to has the same hand mark on it.

Upon thinking back, they actually spoil a major plot point in the first 30 seconds of the game. There’s also a really fucking awesome theory that Kratos is the World Serpent that Artreus creates in the next game (or the one after)
