God of war is too good. When they said that Atreus was Loki my mouth was wide open... I feel so dumb because the first thing he asked when he got told he was a god is if he can shape shift
Instead of a sequel, what if they made a PRE-quel! They might explain the story RIGHT after the event when he got to the Norse mythology.......IT MIGHT EVEN SHOW THE MOTHER!!!
@@DatBoiRatchet the serpent got sent into the past while fighting with Thor. Did you play the game? You should play it, they told it in one of their dialogues.
My favorite moment in the game is during the final confrontation with Baldur, when he goes to attack Freya Kratos puts a hand on his chest, stopping him and says "This path you walk. Vengeance. It will bring you no peace. I know." It's brilliant because it reinforces two of the games most important themes, Kratos is older and trying to exercise more restraint, trying to be less the aggressor and more the defender. As evident during the first confrontation with Baldur, when he gets slapped in the face and still chooses not to attack, the whole game he isn't hunting anyone down for revenge he does what he must to fulfill Faye's wishes and more importantly protect Atreus. The second theme that moment reinforces is something Cory mentioned in a different interview "The wounds that never heal." because in that moment you realize Kratos is still tormented by the life he left behind, that even after all these years the deaths of his first wife and child haunt him with the same intense shame and grief. In his youth Kratos believed so firmly that vengeance would make things right, that somehow by destroying the gods he could correct an egregious mistake, but in the end his pain never left him. He learned a harsh lesson, that your sins can never be forgiven nor forgotten, that his past will always cling to him like a shadow no matter how many he kills or how far away he travels. In that moment Kratos looks at Baldur and sees himself, a man whose trust was betrayed, a man who had something irreplaceable stolen from him. An angry, bitter demigod bent on striking out at the person who wronged him, and if he did kill Freya what would have stopped him from moving on to the other gods? Baldur stood poised and willing to tread that same road of destruction and chaos that Kratos once walked, and in that moment Kratos knew he could not allow it to happen, not again. "The cycle ends here."
Remember at the end when Mimir said "a great Winter to span 3 summers, and when it's done, Ragnarok begins." The game released in 2018, 2021 is Ragnarok
I remember when he said he was afraid of being the guy that ‘fucked up God of War’ in the GOW 2 behind the scenes. That guy has done the absolute best things for the series
The first time I saw that Cory Barlog was going to direct the new God of War, I knew without a doubt that this game was going to be something special. He had already directed GoW2, which I personally thought was by far the best game in the series to date, and now he brings us this complete masterpiece.
Reasons why this game is amazing... 1. Amazing Story 2. Gorgeous Graphics 3. Great Combat System 4. Awesome Throwbacks to the Old Games 5. Great Character Development 6. Semi-Open World and a lot to do 7. Challenging but Fun Bosses 8. Wonderful Pacing 9. Very Cinematic All in all, I think this game is sooooooooooooo amazing and fun, I didn’t want the game to end so I could just keep playing it. Props to all of the developers because this game must have taken so much time and effort to make, and props to all of the actors in this game because they all played their parts amazing, it was almost like watching a movie at some points in the game. In my opinion, This game is perfect and it will go down as #1 on my list of favorite games ever played.
For me, it wasn't just the graphics its the amount of detail they put into characters, environments, carvings. It feels like you entered a real, fully realized world. They really did an awesome job with the immersion.
I think removing cutscenes and keep moving on with the gameplay has played a BIG role in this being one of the best gameplay ever. He also said once that he wanted to keep focussing on whatever is happening on the center of the screen to make it look better. I have never seen a single game without cutscenes/loading screens. The only ones we have now is in the secret ending and through the fast travel portals and even that seems flawless.
Oh god I just remembered Fenrir should be there as well... :O We *need* cute giant doggo! :D Together with Jormundgandr it would be cuteness overload (Yes I find a huge snake to be cute)
I Am ECIII idk if they gonna do ragnarok right of the bat, since I got a feeling of a trilogy. Although they do hint ragnarok a lot, and (spoilers stop reading if u have not finished) since Atreus is Loki who is a catalyst for Ragnarok. So it might be, but it might be about Freya, Thor, and the Asgardian wanting revenge for the shit Kratos did.
The Furschlong another thing that also points to ragnarok being a big part of the story that you didn’t mention is the guy the ending of the game is basically the beginning of ragnarok because baldur died. Him dying is the start of it
@@violentload2458 the world serpent was sent back in time before his birth from a fight with Thor. Loki/atreus is a giant and giants come in any manner of form. Loki also gives birth to Fenrir who is a wolf but a giant. Loki only has one humanoid child and that's Hel.
Screw the guys talking to Cory! Kratos should never ever have a helmet! Ever! He’s a iconic badass with that bald head of his with the tattoo running down his face to his shoulder showing off his physique with no shirt on! He’s always been that way and I’m glad they stayed true to the character of Kratos and what made him so iconic which was a brilliant move, I wish we had the ability to just upgrade his original outfit because I really like it, the Witcher 3 has that same problem
I really think, after he took the first Valkyr helmet, he should have said to Atreus something like « I don’t wear helmet myself, they are restricting your vision and prevent to stay FOCUS on your nearby environnement »
In the Norse mythology the death of baldur is the beginning of Ragnarok so I'm pretty sure we'll see Ragnarok happening in the next game or the game after it
Zach Thomas ikr when i found out that the boiiiiii was Loki I was like wtf. And in the Norse mythology one of Loki's sons is the fucking world serpent and the serpent kills thor by poisoning him but before thor dies by the poison he manages to kill the serpent so I'm pretty hyped to see the serpent Vs thor battle in the next games and also I'm curious to see if the boi-loki will betray kratos like we see in the mural
Well Mimir did say that fimbulwinter is here and that Ragnarok is sooner then expected since Kratos interacted with the prophecy and Kratos' fate cannot be seen since he killed his fate.
The next game is definitely Ragnarok or atleast the start of it. It started with the death of Baldr and after Kratos snaps his neck, he says Snow as his last words and if you're observant you'll notice that throughout the game there was no snow falling in the sky before Baldr's death. Then the dwarves also discussed about the snow and Mimir finally says that Fimbulwinter has begun and at the end of it Ragnarok begins. In the post credit scene, Atreus said that when Thor arrived, it was the end of the winter
SuperMocha Cappuccino shitshitshitshit , the 3 long winters and humans revert to Stone Age OMG ....AFTER THE WINTER FLOKI AND HATI DEVOURS THE SUN AND MOON AND RAGNAROK STARTS ......
Lol, GoW 2018 totally changed everything that made up the previous games so that it is a God Of War game in name only..... and you are worried about them giving Kratos a helmet?! :)
When the world serpent has your axe in its mouth and then spits it out a norse phrase shows up on your screen which means that your axe now has jormangand's venom and in norse mythology that's what kills thor his venom.
yeah, I also noticed that when the world serpent gave back the axe it gave something to the axe that was never brought up like it never happened, bet it's gonna be the thing like when Baldur accidentally punched the mistletoe arrow that was used to strap Atreus' quiver.
The last image of the wall showed a dead Kratos with Loki holding him. So people think this is The future and it is going tô heappen no matter what. Kratos seems to be The only one who knows theres no such thing as Destiny. He changed It and killed It many years ago.
Actually that was the Greek version :). There are three Norns living in the Urd and these 3 sisters "Weave" the fates of everyone. Perhaps Faye was one of these Norns and that's how she knew how things would turn out. We assume she was a giant though because she appeared in Murals in Jormungund, Land of Giants
Plus "death" to kratos is basically a joke for him. Like hell, he can just get away from hel over and over again(get the pun? No? Ok, i'll stop...), and might as well kill whoever rules hel
Igor Costa also , there are total of 3 remaining giants alive , Atreus/Loki, Jormungandr (although it seems that he came out of Kratos? Look at the mural tho , it's like a spell to keep Kratos alive maybe linking his life to the snake?) and muspelheims ruler , Surtur of the Flames (although not shown in game .) Tyr could still be alive too , if Fenrir is in the game then that would be 7 including his children.
Honestly the best moment in the game was when they discover the treasure and on tje way back down the elevator, Kratos shares a drink with Atreus from his times and they had that father son bonding momemt that was so pure sincere and honest.
@@aryan7767 him becoming a douche right after shows the exact duality of a boy growing up. He shares a moment with his father as equals, and immediately it goes to his head. Very good true to human story telling, growing pains and all.
SPOILERS Y'all got an interview with the man and didn't ask about the final part of the story of Loki where kratos is lying on the the ground looking dead
And like baby world serpent came out of his mouth because during the Boat talk Mimir said he understand the BOI! pain and in another they said that world serpent was sent back in time and he can talk to world serpent at the end fight
My only criticism is that they reused 2 of the bosses alot. The ancients and the big pillar guys. Surely there were some other monsters of norse mythology to draw from?
Probably but they said they cut a lot of mythology out. Probably didn't want to blow their load here and have nothing new for the next one or two games
You did hear the whole talk about "getting expensive" and some things needing to be cut off. Maybe in the next instalment, we'll see more designs, since a turtle with a house underneath most likely will not be featured.
I platinumed it two days ago. Was not as hard as i thought it would be. Please defeat the nine valkerys before fighting balder. It is just a must... i did all nine with upgraded smoldering armour. Just gotta make sure its done.
Greatest game I’ve ever played. Can’t wait to see what happens in the sequel. Starting on my second playthrough tonight. Cory... thank you for making the greatest game of all time.
Rondo Capone it's awesome man also on my second play through. If u get it. Be patient t and try explore everything. You'll love the combat. Definitely a key element in the game
Bassmaniac I can't be bothered to look up the numbers, but I remember the first God of War being a huge thing. I think outside Gran Turismo (and maybe Uncharted nowadays), it might've been Sony's biggest franchise in the previous two generations.
Kevin Lopez Sony has a good rep for giving developers their space. They told Hideo Kojima to just do whatever he wanted basically for death stranding with both budget and ideas.
Timothy King i am basing my comment on the things he said in the interview... it sounded like sony was a bit limiting on his ideas and he had to figure out ways to implement them. To an extent of even going over their heads...
Kevin Lopez yah I guess that's true. Well he sure figured out how to get around that haha I think he kinda proved that they should give him freedom. We will see I guess
Kevin Lopez That’s not surprising at all considering the amount of development talent they lost at Santa Monica over the last 5 years or so including directors/producers in the God of War franchise.
H Cortes I don't think that's at all what he is saying and this game proves that if anything, they've gained talent not lost it. But I don't keep track of who they lose and gain so I can't say for sure.
Dunno man. It will get very tricky to switch from norse to egyptian to make it reasonable within the logic-range of GoW. Maybe they get back in time / a way to get in touch with Tyr, and then they do some teleporting / time traveling together, but otherwise, there is a high chance it will feel forced. 2 More games in the norse realm would be cool. Thor and Odin as end-bosses. And hopefully NOT a dead Kratos because if he dies a piece of myself dies with him. I cant see the coolest video game character to ever exist die. I just cant.
@@okMasq then I'm done with the series. Easy as that. But Kratos was never a believer for prophecies or destiny/fate. He likes to crush that and rewrite history. We will see what happens in 2 or 3 years.
@@RoxxSerm Who cares if it feels forced? The game is important, not how Kratos managed to go in another pantheon. They could also make another God of war game in a different timeline, where kratos is already in Egyptian mythology.
Listening to these guys makes me realize why I’ve been following and supporting this series for so long. They collectively put their art and soul into game play, story and stunning images. I loved Freyas turtle.
Next game will most likely release in 2020 :) Cory takes a 4-6 months vacation now as he stated in an interview, to catch up some family time. But given that this game only took so long to develop because they A) Had to create a new engine, B) decide on the setting (Norse) and wasted nearly a whole year creating scripts for the Egyptian version and C) Had to come up with the story and all. All those things don't affect the next game - Which will drastically improve the development time.
Motaz Jalloun nothing is confirmed, but its obvious that a game thats universally a success both in reviews and sales will get a sequel - Not to mention its a 1st party exclusive for sony so they are sure to build on this success. Also Cory Barlogg stated that our adventure on the north "has just begun" and he'd love to make this another trilogy. However Cory has taken a 6month vacation now, so I expect development for the new game to begin early 2019 and the game should release around end of 2019 or mid 2020. But I think its sooner rather than later
This is the game series that changed a part of my life for the better. Back when the first one came out, it was a time when my older brother and I absolutely despised each other. We actively avoided each other, we got on each others nerves whenever we got the chance, and we fought and argued over the stupidest things. The only thing that we’d ever bond over together was video games. It was always me watching him play them, didn’t want me to “ruin the experience” I guess. I’d watch him play Kotor’s 1 and 2, God of wars 1 and 2, Fable, you name it. This went on for years and slowly we got less aggressive, but not completely so. Then I came home from school one day, I walked past my brothers room and he was reading and stopped me. He said he’d gotten God of War 3, it was 3 days after it came out, and without missing a beat I walked in his room and sat down. He picked up the controller and handed it to me, sat down on his bed and said “You play this time, I already beat it. I’ll read and watch you”. This was the first time that he watched me play a game, this was a big moment for me but I didn’t understand why, I simply felt happy and excited. It took 3 days, because of school and thing, but I eventually beat it. The entire time he’d ask me “are you lost?” Other times “Huh, I didn’t know that was there.” He asked me what my favorite weapon was, I said “hades hooks”(can’t remember actual name) . In that moment of the credits rolling “what do you think about the ending.. and we were both into Greek mythology at the time, I wonder why, and I said “It was a true Greek ending. I can’t be mad about it. I loved it.” God of war 3 was the game, the pivotal point, that turned out relationship around. So when the new one was announced, I bought a ps4 just to play it. I beat it and my brother asked if he could borrow it. Guess who was helping him when he had questions. The God of war series will and always be special to me and I can’t wait for the next installment.
Please make more God of War. I haven't played a story game this intriguing since Final Fantasy X & Witcher 3. This game is amazing and I'm sad it's done. No lie, exploring/combat/story/etc. Great job but make another game and longer too. It's very good game.
Greg H sincerely, I was really happy at the ending just because it wasnt an ending in fact! Thinking of long term, it was just great! Just enough, the right cut of the story. High expectations for the next one!
Little do people know, they'd already made a connection to Egyptian mythology inside of Tyr's vault; when Atreus finds an Egyptian sculpture or something of the sort, Mimir states that it comes from a desert land, then Atreus asks if there are any gods, Mimir says it is filled with gods.
Gamespot gives games like Assassin's Creed a 10/10, but won't give God Of War a 10. SMH...And no, Kratos should never wear a helmet. He's a God...Guess you missed that part of the storyline.
I’m a big Assassin’s Creed fan, but I have to agree with you. Just watching a let’s play alone had me utterly enthralled by this game. I don’t think I’ve felt that way about an Assassin’s Creed game for a long time.
I used to be a really heavy FIFA/COD/2K player (I also played a lot of Assassin's Creed but that was the only single player game I really played) and then I started playing games like Uncharted, The Witcher & Horizon: Zero Dawn and it really changed things for me. This God of War is incredible and I will be hanging by a thread for the follow up game just as much as I am for a Horizon sequel.
Brennon Goodwin Welcome bro. Games are as good as a movie that you actively take part in. If you want good suggestions to start: The witcher series especially witcher iii, all the batman arkham series especially arkham city and arkham knight, the last of us i and ii, assaassins creed series, uncharted 4 , tomb raider series.
Same I only played cod and gta then I played assassin creeds games which was my introduction to single player games. Then I started playing wither 3, bloodborne, Spider-Man, god of war, etc
When he mentioned Egypt... I hadn’t thought of that area at all. It’d be dope to see down the line a game where Artreus is grown up and we’re playing the game as him fighting Egyptian Gods.
Why didn't you ask him about that image behind the curtain where Atreus/Loki is holding who we assume is kratos dying? That is the only reason I watched this.
+Gabriel Meyer not necessarily dying, but it looked like someone had beaten Kratos up as Atreus was propping him up, and they both looked at the robed figure. My guess is that GoW5 starts with Thor beating up Kratos and they're forced to flee their home
I'm addicted to watch Cory Barlog speaking. The guy is so passionate yet so calm and humble, that I just simply love the way he express his genuine love about this amazing, unique, lovely game.
Dear Cory Barlog, i know, you'll never read this. But in case... I've never played a GOW. It has never been my type of game. But I heard, this is a very good single player game and i tried. I know the lore of gow. I played it and after I finished it...I stood up an clapped! No Shit! All alone by myself in my room. I play vgames since vgames were invented. Im pretty old school. I dont like this time. Fifa...is comming, battlefield..., cod..., assasins creed..., and so on. Fortnite and overwatch...sry, not my type. And after "EA" declared, single player games are dead...this masterpiece screwed them all over. Im so glad, there are so passioned developers like you to prove them wrong. I love your game and after nearly 30 years of active gaming, i have quiet a good sense for the good, bad and ugly. Please, please go on and make good games. Dont rush part 2. Take your time and make it good, not fast. Im glad to wait years for the next masterpiece. Please dont get (assasins) creedy. Take your time and support our unified wishes for good single player games. Best wishes Resistance
Vive laResistance while you wait for the GOW sequel, you should go play the old series, you’re gonna love it. It’ll also give you a chance to see exactly what Kratos’ past was like.
Cory on doing research on every mythology “there Is an order in which we’re going to go to EACH one of these.” Meaning MULTIPLE GOW’s & gods to kill after Norse Mythology!!
SPOILER ALERT: I was wondering when Loki was going to show up. I suspected Baldur was Loki before he was named. Turns out Loki was there all along. My mouth was yawwing wide when Kratos told a certain person his mother's name for him.
I love it when developers or any film producers realize they need to really prioritize the humanity and the passion into their stories. They make us care about the characters as much as or more than the action, which is an incredible feat. They understand that their production is a form of art that cannot only sell itself with flair and action. Like HiTops said, art is supposed to make you feel something, and that something isn't just the adrenaline and excitement in the moment.
The only thing I was not a fan of at the end of the game, when Kratos unwraps his arms, how Atreus just buggers in and goes "Can we go now?" Kind ruining that moment of Kratos no longer feeling like he has to hide the scars of his past. To me it would have f,owed better if Atreus noticed the scars, seeing them for the first time and asked about them. Kratos could have held off like 'that's a story for another time', hinting that he'll in time tell his son his whole past before bidding to continue to the peak. That to me would have been more ideal than what we got.
To me it looked like this Kratos: "I have nothing to hide anymore" *closes his eyes* *spreads his arms* *the wind gently blows the bends away* Atroki: " You're such a drama queen, dad"
Love how Cory sounds so confident about his ideas now that the game has become such a hit, and rightfully so. He just sounded so uncertain during development lol
My theory about the last image on the mural is that atreus inherits the blades of chaos after Kratos dies in the next God of War game which is what the chains represents. Odds are Odin kills Kratos which will force him to take up the name loki the God of War to conceal his identity or abandon his old identity as if he died with his father then used mimirs eyes to guide him towards Vengeance to complete Ragnarok. He'll probably have Athena's voice and presence guiding him to use the blades of chaos and showing him his Greek origin probably manipulating him along the way as he completes Ragnarok so that she can make him into a pawn in some way for short time or Grant him a promise to resurrect Kratos through bringing back the Olympian Pantheon.
CrossingJay I bet you’re wrong. Sure, maybe Kratos dies. But you can’t be that precise with a theory. Something pisses me off, and I don’t know what it is. I am not drunk. Maybe I’m high. AAAAAAAAHH?!
He’s a simple version: Ragnarok already happen but it was so big it fucked with time and sent Loki back to when he was a child, and The World Serpent is sent back before his real birth. The mural says he’s born after Kratos’ death which I think Atreus will use the Valkyrie to bring him back :) Atreus other sons Fenir and Hel have yet to be born, probably in the next few games because Fenir is supposed to be the father of Skol and Hati, the wolves chasing the sun and moon. EDIT: the time travel thing gives them a lot of room to play with the mythology lol but I’m certain they’re following Loki and his giant sons. That’s why the World Serpent says Atreus looks familiar, he’s looking at a young version of his father.
@Ali Jordan Norse mythology just be like that sometimes. If it makes you feel any better I'm pretty sure Loki also shapeshifts into a horse and does the deed with another horse, then gives birth to a legendary 8 legged horse. So. Atreus is out doing that lol
@Ali Jordan I am late to the Party but loki is also the father of Fenrir (The big wolf) and Hel, guardian of hell. He, as many pointed out, shapeshifts and give birth to these animals...with some help of magic and so on. Not really deatiled as to how exactly but hey. There you have it sir. Take care
It took 5 years to build the lore & story. They now have well defined lore and I'm sure they already know the story for GoW5 so really all they have to do create the game. 2 years max
It could only be 4 or 3 years. They're most likely going to stay with the Nordic Mythology stuff as of right now meaning they can reuse assets. They've probably got a rough idea for the story of 5 unlike how with gow4 they had to make one that is connected to the previous titles but starts a new story. Sony will most likely give them a bigger budget considering how successful this God of war game was.
The good news is that the next one MIGHT not take so long, because yes the story took a while, but also they needed NEW tools for the PS4. So if they don't need to rebuild those tools then the next one could come out a bit quicker. (Still, probably 3-4 years perhaps)
Steven Its already been confirmed it’s sticking with Nordic Mythology. This is why if you noticed while playing the game, a couple of realms are locked which say “Odom has prevented access to this realm”. Also if I remember correctly the ending is still in Midgard, also the whole Ragnarok thing happening, and the snowfall at the end. It’s pretty clear it’s going to be happening in the same world/same theme which is Nordic Mythology.
I really want another awesome god of war game like this one, with a balance between mythology and human characteristics like fatherhood or weakness, and with a stunning natural colorful world and story in which each little piece is very memorable and unique
Really glad we had mimir. I love the depth we got from this game. Theres nothing I value more in a game than story, and slowly putting together the history of the world were exploring.
SO YOURE JUST GONNA NOT TALK ABOUT BIG BIRD GUARDING HEL ?!!!???????! Cmon IGN there’s probably 10 more questions you could have asked haha. Who blew the horn to call the world serpent, who was the mysterious voice that said it was coming for kratos and his son? Was it Thor? Or Odin? Why not ask about the real ending with Thor showing up. So many unasked questions.
There may be spoilers attached to some of those questions that he'd be unwilling to answer at the moment. He can't give it away if it's going to be a big reveal later on.
I love Norse Mythology, it has always resonated with me and Mimir made it SO much better, even if some specific pronunciations weren't on point he gave the names so much power behind them. Hrimþur son of Þamur, Skaði the huntress, Magni and Modi, I love it so much!
Save ma boy Kratos. Don’t kill him the next game. I don’t want Loki or whatever character, i just want ma fav video game character of all times, Kratos.
Grim Reaper I was just rewatching the old games n noticed that when I was playing. Honestly it doesn't really matter, because there's very little reason for him to jump now. At least he runs fast which he didn't do until he got Hermes shoes. I like that better
Thank you cory balrog for bringing this game back i was blown away by this game single player lives on with this game excellent story great combat all around too u ain't a true fan of god of war if you didnt like this one great work 👍
Okay I've been trying to figure out the runes on the wall carving with Atreus holding "Kratos". there are four words there, The first word is "Svik" (Betrayal) on the lower left corner, then "Andlát" (Death) fǫður (the father) and finally Hörmung which means Misery. The runes in the "snake" are impossible for me to see so any help with a clearer image would be appreciated.
There are so many completely amazing moments in this game, and the ending was amazing and satisfactory despite providing “two new questions for every answer”. When Kratos and Atreus have their first conversation about him being a god... or that Loki moment... or when Kratos sees himself dying in Atreus arms... I mean, so many chilling moment of massive emotion. I just wish movies could be this good. TV (looking at you, GOT!) and movie endings have just gone so extremely downhill to destroy even initially great stories, while gaming (GOW, Witcher 3) has taken story-telling to a completely different level.
As someone whose read a lot of Norse Mythology before playing the game I found Mimir’s stories absolutely vital. GoW always puts a particular spin on the myths it draws from and Mimir excellently sets the stage as well as breaks the silences
20 SECOND INTO THE VIDEO AND I AM STUNNED.... THESE PEOPLE NEVER PLAYED THE ORIGINAL GOW GAMES DID THEY. God of War has always been known to build their levels that interlock into each other. That concept never began with Souls. weird.... i feel bad for Cory, these journalists also shitting on the original games while trying to build up this one. Kratos has always been a deep character
I'm so glad to find someone else who feels this. If you skip the previous games, you're basically saying you don't give a fuck about the story or the characters. It's just disrespectful.
Kratos has never been a deep character until now. He was an 1 dimensional character. A brute force killing people because of his vengeance. He never cared about how many lives he ruined. A shelfish character without any type of evolve. He starts as a guy trying to kill Ares because of his vengeance. And he finish his adventure in GoW3 trying to kill Zeus because of his vengeance. He has killed so many innocents and has never said nothing about it. You could just cut his head and he would be the same character
Not too subtle. The eye of Horus symbol, the double crown that Atreus tried on, and the khopesh (the small scythe-looking weapon) that Sindri pulled out of his magic "fit-all" pouch after Hraezlyr was killed by Kratos were pretty on-the-nose, on top of Mimir mentioning the far away "desert land" with gods that are a bit complicated in terms of good or evil, like the Norse and Greek gods.
@@barbaro267 There was also the separate Pantheons depicted on one of the walls or tapestries as well. I think it was Egyptian, Japanese, Mayan from left to right in that order and there were also a few things in that chamber where Kratos picks up that vase, although I can't remember off the top of my head exactly what the items were.
God of war is too good. When they said that Atreus was Loki my mouth was wide open... I feel so dumb because the first thing he asked when he got told he was a god is if he can shape shift
That huge snek was his son so, yeah he definitely can. We'll probably see it in the sequel.
Instead of a sequel, what if they made a PRE-quel! They might explain the story RIGHT after the event when he got to the Norse mythology.......IT MIGHT EVEN SHOW THE MOTHER!!!
@@kylecab31 how the world serpent is Atreus son if he hasn't bust a single nut in his childish life?
@@DatBoiRatchet the serpent got sent into the past while fighting with Thor. Did you play the game? You should play it, they told it in one of their dialogues.
The Snake has Kratos yellow eyes and his chin beard.
Tycho Azrephet great comment.
Beautifully said
Tycho Azrephet Well freaking said dude
Thanks!
Thank you! :)
I think....Santa Monica should trust Cory 100% from now on. He clearly has IT. Great fken game. Legendary vision
they trust him,but without some pushback, its hard to make these games on-schedule and within budget...
He directed gow2 and it won game of the year too
Creativity blossoms under pressure and in the face of criticism. God of War would not have been what it is if there weren't any challenges.
@Karim Elnagar Stig Asmussen is the useless bald guy
@Karim Elnagar that "useless bald guy" made Jedi: Fallen Order.
So........
Remember at the end when Mimir said "a great Winter to span 3 summers, and when it's done, Ragnarok begins."
The game released in 2018, 2021 is Ragnarok
That's pretty cool if it releases in 2021
@@zainarshad1247 there's literally an official teaser for GOW Ragnarok that ended with "2021"
@@yurrr1211 yea but it could get delayed
@@zainarshad1247 highly doubt it would
Ahh not clicked on with that until now .. plus let's hope it's released on PS4 also
"Loki and Thor and ANTHONY HOPKINS..."
Ah yes, Anthony Hopkins, my favorite god of Norse mythology.
lmao
i was gonna write this exact comment word for word haha
Lmaoooo
Fuck :D
HAHAH
Mimir is a great character. I love him he’s so funny
I agree brother😆
"Bollocks"
Francis Corpus haha funny one brother 😂😂
“It’s all connected man!”
Mímir is a good lad
I remember when he said he was afraid of being the guy that ‘fucked up God of War’ in the GOW 2 behind the scenes. That guy has done the absolute best things for the series
Agathor 1930 did he make ascension?
Eric oung No, that was Todd Papy
The first time I saw that Cory Barlog was going to direct the new God of War, I knew without a doubt that this game was going to be something special. He had already directed GoW2, which I personally thought was by far the best game in the series to date, and now he brings us this complete masterpiece.
Brian Singer he failed
Proc of the Dawn yes it was one of the best
Reasons why this game is amazing...
1. Amazing Story
2. Gorgeous Graphics
3. Great Combat System
4. Awesome Throwbacks to the Old Games
5. Great Character Development
6. Semi-Open World and a lot to do
7. Challenging but Fun Bosses
8. Wonderful Pacing
9. Very Cinematic
All in all, I think this game is sooooooooooooo amazing and fun, I didn’t want the game to end so I could just keep playing it. Props to all of the developers because this game must have taken so much time and effort to make, and props to all of the actors in this game because they all played their parts amazing, it was almost like watching a movie at some points in the game. In my opinion, This game is perfect and it will go down as #1 on my list of favorite games ever played.
Its almost an insult to compare it to a movie as I have never seen a movie as good as this game was.
For me, it wasn't just the graphics its the amount of detail they put into characters, environments, carvings. It feels like you entered a real, fully realized world. They really did an awesome job with the immersion.
Its the 1 take no cut right?
Its like the WHOLE game is 1 scene and no time lapse
Not to mention the brilliant voice acting
I think removing cutscenes and keep moving on with the gameplay has played a BIG role in this being one of the best gameplay ever. He also said once that he wanted to keep focussing on whatever is happening on the center of the screen to make it look better. I have never seen a single game without cutscenes/loading screens. The only ones we have now is in the secret ending and through the fast travel portals and even that seems flawless.
Jormungandr is a total bro in this game. I hope we get a Fenrir doggo in the sequel.
Liesmith ikr
Oh god I just remembered Fenrir should be there as well... :O We *need* cute giant doggo! :D Together with Jormundgandr it would be cuteness overload (Yes I find a huge snake to be cute)
Lord Helmchen I'd love a cute Fenrir baby or something.
the scenes with him are fucking intimidating especially if you play with headphones on, loud fucking roars
Much large snek
I love this guy. He's been in the God of war team since the beginning, and you see his passion for this series.
The Furschlong can't wait to see what's in store for GOD of WAR V (FumbleWinter/RagNörak)
Him dying is the start of it
When you realize Kratos traveled into his grandsons stomach to get a special eye.
In GoW3 he traveled into his grandfather's stomach to get a special stone.
Holy shit you’re right!-I knew that but it’s makes it all the cooler saying it like that !
Kratos and boi's bizarre adventure
How would atreus have given birth to the world serpent that makes no sense
@@violentload2458 the world serpent was sent back in time before his birth from a fight with Thor. Loki/atreus is a giant and giants come in any manner of form. Loki also gives birth to Fenrir who is a wolf but a giant. Loki only has one humanoid child and that's Hel.
anyone noticed that the tattoo on Cory's chest is the rune signature of Brok & Sindrii
Thank you! I saw it in another video and couldn't tell if it was real. You just blew my mind
Wow facts
The huldra brothers brand...nice catch
Screw the guys talking to Cory! Kratos should never ever have a helmet! Ever! He’s a iconic badass with that bald head of his with the tattoo running down his face to his shoulder showing off his physique with no shirt on! He’s always been that way and I’m glad they stayed true to the character of Kratos and what made him so iconic which was a brilliant move, I wish we had the ability to just upgrade his original outfit because I really like it, the Witcher 3 has that same problem
Black Mishima
You do know that was a joke, right?
I GOTTA BALD HEAD
I really think, after he took the first Valkyr helmet, he should have said to Atreus something like « I don’t wear helmet myself, they are restricting your vision and prevent to stay FOCUS on your nearby environnement »
woooosh
Kratos: "Gods need no helmets, boy"
In the Norse mythology the death of baldur is the beginning of Ragnarok so I'm pretty sure we'll see Ragnarok happening in the next game or the game after it
Achilles 1996 I'm still pretty woke that the young "BOI" I was playing aside for several hours was fucking Loki
Zach Thomas exacly
Zach Thomas ikr when i found out that the boiiiiii was Loki I was like wtf. And in the Norse mythology one of Loki's sons is the fucking world serpent and the serpent kills thor by poisoning him but before thor dies by the poison he manages to kill the serpent so I'm pretty hyped to see the serpent Vs thor battle in the next games and also I'm curious to see if the boi-loki will betray kratos like we see in the mural
Kratos is Ragnarok
SuperMocha Cappuccino it’s fimbulwinter. I CAN FEEL IT IN MY SCROTE!
they already devoured the sun and moon. thats why fimbulwinter lasts 3 years
Which means, another game will happen before Ragnarok... Sweet
Which means.... We can discuss the next game.... Kratos Loki and grandson takes on Christianity....
He’s so proud of this game & worked so hard to make it legendary. I enjoy Watching him soak up every drop of this praise.
He deserves it. On my first play through on my first PlayStation in 20 years. It’s amazing
Kratos’ bald head remains iconic, I really hope they don’t add helmets in the next one it’ll change everything
I would just take the stat damage and leave it off
Even if a helmet gives you op stats. I would never cover kratos'head
Lol, GoW 2018 totally changed everything that made up the previous games so that it is a God Of War game in name only..... and you are worried about them giving Kratos a helmet?! :)
@@jandoor2068 great game tho
They should at-least give option to trim his beard and/or get the goatee back
When the world serpent has your axe in its mouth and then spits it out a norse phrase shows up on your screen which means that your axe now has jormangand's venom and in norse mythology that's what kills thor his venom.
yeah, I also noticed that when the world serpent gave back the axe it gave something to the axe that was never brought up like it never happened, bet it's gonna be the thing like when Baldur accidentally punched the mistletoe arrow that was used to strap Atreus' quiver.
Wow, Never thought about that
U mean eitr??
When kratos threw his axe into the water it was supposed to give him eitr imbued so he could kill gods
@@riverajustinmarks. it makes it possible for kratos to kill gods
The last image of the wall showed a dead Kratos with Loki holding him. So people think this is The future and it is going tô heappen no matter what.
Kratos seems to be The only one who knows theres no such thing as Destiny. He changed It and killed It many years ago.
Igor Costa so real Kratos gives no fucks about prophecy, destiny, or any predeterminations
Igor Costa hahaha true also it had something wrong with it since the wall said attreus name was loki so it could be wrong
Honestly the best moment in the game was when they discover the treasure and on tje way back down the elevator, Kratos shares a drink with Atreus from his times and they had that father son bonding momemt that was so pure sincere and honest.
yeah but atreus became a douche right after that
@@aryan7767 him becoming a douche right after shows the exact duality of a boy growing up. He shares a moment with his father as equals, and immediately it goes to his head. Very good true to human story telling, growing pains and all.
SPOILERS
Y'all got an interview with the man and didn't ask about the final part of the story of Loki where kratos is lying on the the ground looking dead
it doesnt seem like kratos to me,no red tatoos no white skin
You sure about that Migu Senpai? brb gonna check.
The series die with the death of Kratos !
And like baby world serpent came out of his mouth because during the Boat talk Mimir said he understand the BOI! pain and in another they said that world serpent was sent back in time and he can talk to world serpent at the end fight
Still doesnt have white skin
My only criticism is that they reused 2 of the bosses alot. The ancients and the big pillar guys. Surely there were some other monsters of norse mythology to draw from?
Yeah. Too many Troll and Ancient fight.
Agreed, thank god they didn’t include more Valkyries in those boss fights!
I just stopped seeing them as "boss" but as a regular "bigger, tougher enemy" and it worked :)
Thor at the end is the most badass version of thor ever....cold blooded killer!!!!

Cory Barlog is the guy who he has made the god of war huge!! with the god of war 2 & 4!
Bassmaniac I can't be bothered to look up the numbers, but I remember the first God of War being a huge thing.
I think outside Gran Turismo (and maybe Uncharted nowadays), it might've been Sony's biggest franchise in the previous two generations.
God of war 2 was fantastic probably the best until the latest but OMG the new god of war is a masterpiece
He only started on 3, 1 and 2 was another
David Jaffe is the inventor of GoW and the captain of the boat before he left
He’s been involved with all the god of war games. Honestly he’s what made it great.
I hope sony gives him more creative liberty and dont doubt his ideas...
Mimir and atreaus feels like real travel companions in a single player game
In real life a companion is always try to break your mind
But not in this game
He's the real Loki tricking people to get the game as big as he wants it

“The cycle ends here”-Kratos I got chills when Kratos quoted Zeus
“Egyptian has always been fascinating to me”
This has to be a sign that we will sooner or later get a god of war where they visit Egyptian mythology
RoxxSerm I think Kratos’ll die at the end of the next game tbh, his god powers get cursed or something idk
In the original games kratos lived in the Greek area and romans and stuff. Parts of Egypt were ruled by the romans.
Listening to these guys makes me realize why I’ve been following and supporting this series for so long. They collectively put their art and soul into game play, story and stunning images. I loved Freyas turtle.
WELP! Time to wait another 8 years
Next game will most likely release in 2020 :)
Cory takes a 4-6 months vacation now as he stated in an interview, to catch up some family time. But given that this game only took so long to develop because they A) Had to create a new engine, B) decide on the setting (Norse) and wasted nearly a whole year creating scripts for the Egyptian version and C) Had to come up with the story and all. All those things don't affect the next game - Which will drastically improve the development time.
Sōsuke Aizen but is there going to be a new game? Is it confirmed or it’s just peoples speculations
Sōsuke Aizen I truly hope it’s true man I truly do.
Sōsuke Aizen 2020 that’s very soon, I think 2021-22 seems more plausible

He is the hero we need, but could never deserve!
Awesome bro 🎉
Please make more God of War. I haven't played a story game this intriguing since Final Fantasy X & Witcher 3. This game is amazing and I'm sad it's done. No lie, exploring/combat/story/etc. Great job but make another game and longer too. It's very good game.
Greg H sincerely, I was really happy at the ending just because it wasnt an ending in fact! Thinking of long term, it was just great! Just enough, the right cut of the story. High expectations for the next one!
Try Red dead! 2 and then one
I love those games you just mentioned and if you want a 4th one then red dead redemption 2 all the way
Dip G don’t worry i have good news god of war 5 is in the making get ready for a new adventure
Not arguing with you, no helmet ever. But Ares wore a helmet, and I’m sure there were lots of other gods that wore helmets too
I’m a big Assassin’s Creed fan, but I have to agree with you. Just watching a let’s play alone had me utterly enthralled by this game. I don’t think I’ve felt that way about an Assassin’s Creed game for a long time.
Hades wore a helmet.

Gabriel Meyer Because you're going to learn about it in a future game
because spoilers duh
but even If he asks him, he would probably not answer it
Lets hope its just not according to the actual mythos or this is probably Kratos dying because Odin is said to have killed Loki's father.
+Wardeni the picture was a depiction of kratos dying because in the next image you see atreus is older and walking with wolves.

IronBlockGames Giant-demigod aside, he’s still a kid. Kids gonna kid.
It signify that Atreus doesn't care about Kratos past. He only care about who he is in the present. His father.
AveragePerson#38 couldn't have said it better myself
Right
To me it looked like this
Kratos: "I have nothing to hide anymore"
*closes his eyes*
*spreads his arms*
*the wind gently blows the bends away*
Atroki: " You're such a drama queen, dad"
Probably the best game over ever played! I have beaten it, yet I keep returning because of how majestic and beautiful the world is
Nick Zenob
This guy has become a god of war celebrity
JCplaythis He is the father of God of War. I hope it doesn't kill him.
Thomas The Dank David Jaffe is the father, Cory is more like it's caring nurturing step dad.
Love how Cory sounds so confident about his ideas now that the game has become such a hit, and rightfully so. He just sounded so uncertain during development lol
I love this man for making a masterpiece.
CrossingJay i like your idea man.
Interesting idea
Nice idea
They should hire you as a writer
CrossingJay I bet you’re wrong. Sure, maybe Kratos dies. But you can’t be that precise with a theory. Something pisses me off, and I don’t know what it is. I am not drunk. Maybe I’m high. AAAAAAAAHH?!
He’s a simple version:
Ragnarok already happen but it was so big it fucked with time and sent Loki back to when he was a child, and The World Serpent is sent back before his real birth.
Ali Jordan Loki is a shapeshifter I’m pretty positive Loki’s whole intent on the serpent was to help fight Thor
Take care
Only the world serpent was sent back in time not Loki.. it even states that in the game
@@calvinparke9053 Fenrir was sent back in time too.
It took 5 years to make this game? well, that just makes me sad. 5 more years for god of war 5 boys. assuming the quality is the same
It took 5 years to build the lore & story.
I'll happily wait 10 years of the quality is as good as this game. I really hope they have the same voice actors in the next entry too
I HOPE CORY BARLOG DIRECTS THE NEXT GOD OF WAR!!!!!😁
Zombie Slayer well obviously he will after this huge success
Zombie Slayer we need him to direct the next gow
Well he directed all the license...
He’s said that he’s willing to give the wheel to a new director but he’ll go anywhere
He’ll stay in this franchise till the end
Basically !... That his job
Sooner or later we shall give our best goodbyes to the Norse gods (btw sick 10/10 game, we haven't had a game like this one in like for ever!)
I really want another awesome god of war game like this one, with a balance between mythology and human characteristics like fatherhood or weakness, and with a stunning natural colorful world and story in which each little piece is very memorable and unique
Honestly love how the turtles name is Charlie
Cory is awesome. Such a cool dude. 10/10 for you Cory.
God of War : Ragnorak
Doggo ragnorak?
Wouldn't it now be "God's of War"?
ROGRAKNO?
*Raknorag?*
korongar?
Really glad we had mimir. I love the depth we got from this game. Theres nothing I value more in a game than story, and slowly putting together the history of the world were exploring.
“I tricked them so I can make the game” 😂
And they probably weren't even mad after how big of a success the game was lol
weell its worth it because the game won GOTY
As Michael Reeves would say, lies and deceit
SO YOURE JUST GONNA NOT TALK ABOUT BIG BIRD GUARDING HEL ?!!!???????! Cmon IGN there’s probably 10 more questions you could have asked haha. Who blew the horn to call the world serpent, who was the mysterious voice that said it was coming for kratos and his son? Was it Thor? Or Odin? Why not ask about the real ending with Thor showing up. So many unasked questions.
IGN....whut?
That shit got me mad bruh fr. They ask the stupidest, most irrelevant ass questions and draw the video out
Timothy Johnson Hræsvelgr . The giant that watches over the spirits in Helheim.
There may be spoilers attached to some of those questions that he'd be unwilling to answer at the moment. He can't give it away if it's going to be a big reveal later on.
I know... game journalists are amongst the dumbest people on earth
I love Norse Mythology, it has always resonated with me and Mimir made it SO much better, even if some specific pronunciations weren't on point he gave the names so much power behind them. Hrimþur son of Þamur, Skaði the huntress, Magni and Modi, I love it so much!
This game is a masterpiece thanks Cory and to the whole Santa Monica team!
THANK YOU for keeping the turtle. That was one of the best moments I've ever experienced in a game.
Man I would literally row around the lake of nine before I got to my next objective just so I could hear the rest of Mimir's stories.
Save ma boy Kratos. Don’t kill him the next game. I don’t want Loki or whatever character, i just want ma fav video game character of all times, Kratos.
Give it another game and I think Loki will be a dope protagonist
That would get boring
He can kill him as often as he wants to. Kratos can just walk out of hel(heim) over and over again
Worlds_Greatest_Detective god of war isnt god of war without kratos.
Geert Wilders spin off or a successor, that won't be named god of war.
That’s why I love god of war I learn about these mythology’s and while looking badass best game ever.
One of the best ideas from the game is mimir.
"When I require your council head I will ask" hahaha 😂😂😂
Kratos doesn't jump anymore (little detail) only when it's a required action
Grim Reaper I was just rewatching the old games n noticed that when I was playing. Honestly it doesn't really matter, because there's very little reason for him to jump now. At least he runs fast which he didn't do until he got Hermes shoes. I like that better
You can say that now he's more mature and... *down to the earth*
He only jumps where his wife marked with runes... yep, that is marriage! But it has some pros too
I bet Atreus turns against his father eventually, and begins going by ‘Loki’ to spite him .
and we battle him at the end of the final Norse saga game
I hope not
What if this Is just all an illusion casted by Loki to use Kratos to kill all the other Gods?
I appreciate the effort in the design of the environments of god of war I was blown away when I first played the game a truly incredible experience.
God of war: Ragnarok? I want to see tons of Gods go crazy and to fight them all.
Cory is salty about that 9/10
9/10 is still pretty good.
He laughed it off lol. Not salty at all
at least they are not biased lol
This guy XD
who wouldn't be, fuck gamespot
Thank you cory balrog for bringing this game back i was blown away by this game single player lives on with this game excellent story great combat all around too u ain't a true fan of god of war if you didnt like this one great work 👍
This, The Witcher 3 and Horizon: Zero Dawn have really carried the torch for single player games.
7:15 he confirms, their will be different mythologies in future games 🤩
Okay I've been trying to figure out the runes on the wall carving with Atreus holding "Kratos". there are four words there, The first word is "Svik" (Betrayal) on the lower left corner, then "Andlát" (Death) fǫður (the father) and finally Hörmung which means Misery. The runes in the "snake" are impossible for me to see so any help with a clearer image would be appreciated.
Tony Berg thanks your your effort bro, awesome information...
Tony Berg nice intel
It looks like "kumið" (come) or - more precisely -
(you come)
Tony Berg
The snakes betrayals of my fathers death?
Rachael Emma *you become*..?
What about the end carving on the wall with Kratos dying? O.O
Gallifreyan_Hunter He was not dying.
The last image does not match the kratos in the other ones, seems it has no tattoos and the skirt/kilt thing is a different design
loki =athreus athreus son of kratos and athreus brother with thor l think athreus will help thor and kill his father kratos
@@jasonbourne6365 HE WILL DIE.
@@sevbans not actually brothers at all even in marvel and especially not norse mythos
Is there an interview where Cory explains Kratos dying at the end on top of Atreus ?
Yes
20 SECOND INTO THE VIDEO AND I AM STUNNED.... THESE PEOPLE NEVER PLAYED THE ORIGINAL GOW GAMES DID THEY. God of War has always been known to build their levels that interlock into each other. That concept never began with Souls. weird.... i feel bad for Cory, these journalists also shitting on the original games while trying to build up this one. Kratos has always been a deep character
COREY M i loved the original god of war played all of them but this one strangely feels boring,my opinion.
I love hearing cory barlog talk about god of war, you can tell how passionate he is about it
Cory Barlog, I caught your subtle reference to Egyptian mythology with some of the relics in Tyr's temple.
@@mattnorris7124 I believe it was celtic not mayan
