    Having played all God of War games this title has me so excited. Cory is brilliant, he did GOW2 and wrote the story for the PSP game “Ghost of Sparta” which are the best games in the series in my opinion. This video was great 👍🏽

      He did? Goddamn. I love Cory Barlog now. GoW2 was my fave because it was actually the first that I played and I really liked the story, but I played Ghost of Sparta a bit and I actually went by Deimos when I was still an edgy teen so I'm really happy that he came up with the story. This game is in good hands.

      At first I didn't want anything to do with this new imagining of God of war, but the god of war fan in me must have it, just to see kratos be a bad ass as an old man.

    • @Pablo-ig7tx
      @Pablo-ig7tx 6 лет назад +2

      I definitely agree here , Gow 2 and ghost of sparta ( alongs with the third ) were the greatests .. Cory seems to be so passionate about creating this new Gow .. soo i much details into it . I love and find very interesting Kratos relationship with his son .. it weirds but it kind of remind me about Heavy Rain and The Last of us with 70% of Gow .. game of the year in my opinion !
      Really glad they changed the camera angle and gameplay although i always loved gow series for its world and main character development . This episode looks much more mature and this is fantastic as Kratos has been in a revenge mode enough for the Last 15 years .. time for new adventures

      First things first, Microsoft needs to stray away from their Trinity *(Halo, Gears, Forza)* and capitalize on the investments that they keep saying that they have. They almost did that with Insomniac Games and Sunset Overdrive, but they managed to drop the ball on that as well. It’s not too late for them, but it really is getting to that, now or never period for them.

    It would have been so easy for them to use this setting but use a brand new protagonist. The fact that they’re bringing Kratos back, and referencing his past and the things he did is amazing, it’s a deep dive in story I didn’t think God of War was capable of

    • @Giogiogio4
      @Giogiogio4 6 лет назад +5

      I believe it would have been HARDER to have a new character.
      Reasons is GOW is a brand. Selling a new IP is a hard thing to do to the higher ups. its always more risk. Hench why we see soo many sequels. The team did the right thing tho. Making a new game with a series and moving it forward rather than recycling it with little to no new effort. Which is something many Studios dont get to do because "profit" is more important.

    6:46 Cory's talk about why he feels fatigue and how he views open world games of recent years, and why he decided not to - is very interesting and quite similar to mine. I am glad they didn't go with the OW approach here. I don't mind big areas and levels and maps but not every game should be an open world - and I feel like the more focused and linear - the better the games. Getting distracted, overwhelmed, frustrated with many options and confused - those are the things that makes people like me tired of OW gameplay and lost. You lose motivation and get detached as you veer of course and forget what the main story and struggle is all about. The pacing also lacks quite a lot eventually.

      100% agree. Take new Assassins Creed. They just created boring sidequests and put them in this big big map. Sure, some people might enjoy just running around the world killing random crocodiles for XP, but I much prefer tight story with plots, revelations etc.
      On the other hand, The Withcer 3 was perfect. Side Quests were done just right, the pacing was balanced.

    • @FraserSouris
      @FraserSouris 6 лет назад

      @@VideoByEdDy
      I disagree. In the new Assassin's Creeds, for the first time since AC3, they actually made interesting side quests that told you about the world, characters, and culture of that world. These quests had stories like Bayek helping out his friend by chilling with his kids, or particpating a festival to Sekhemet and finding out how people are taking advantage of this.
      Waypoint says this
      "the mode of engagement with that world is radically new for the franchise. Despite having a fairly limited set of gameplay mechanics, Origins requires the player to interact with its world in unique, even touching, ways-and the already striking world of classical Egypt is more beautiful for it.
      There is a mission in the first third of the game where some people are standing on the side of a dusty road by a cart. A woman is weeping, and a man hails Bayek. Bandits recently entered the area, and they disturbed a group of hippos. These hippos rampaged through the fields of the local village, and they ended up killing several farmers and villagers who were attempting to flee. In many games, this would be a mission to kill the hippos and exact vengeance. In Origins, we are tasked with finding the bodies of the dead, lifting them over our shoulders, and returning them to the cart so that they can be identified. Ultimately, this launches a significant side quest to rescue someone and defend the village, but this introductory quest has stuck with me. I’ve never been given such a mundane and yet communally important quest in a video game.
      There is another mission, near the end of the game this time, that is about raising political awareness. The average Egyptian in Bayek’s time in multiply oppressed beneath class, religious difference, race, ethnicity, and a complex interrelation between Greek and Roman economics and social dynamics that aren’t accurately accounted for in the qualities at the beginning of this sentence.
      We see this play out dozens of times in as many ways over the course of the game, but in this one particular mission it is up to Bayek to go recruit some farmers to help put political pressure on the ruling order. When he arrives to spread the good news, the farmer in question isn’t having any of it. He needs to burn his crops to fertilize his field; no matter what is happening now, he’s in trouble if he can’t grow anything and feed himself a year from now. So Bayek has to take out his torch and put it to the large flammable piles of detritus. Only then, when the work of daily life is done, is it possible to rise up. Bayek’s infinite free time as a Medjay, a protector, means that he can pitch in and do his share to help everyone in the long run.
      There are more moments like those, but it would be stealing something special to go through them all. I constantly mourn the fact that contemporary blockbuster games have very few ways for players to interact with the world around them. For the most part, we can choose to kill things or not kill them (or, maybe, throw things at people or not throw those things).It’s in this context that Assassin’s Creed Origins asks me to help care for the dead, to aid a farmer. The world of this game radically expands and becomes more engaging when the actions that a player can perform move beyond stalking and killing over and over again.
      And, to be clear, that is still the majority of the game, and a retooled combat system with counters, light attacks, heavy attacks, and all of the other things you might want from an action game, is here. You can fight in gladiatorial arenas. You can kill to your heart’s content. But the dominance of one kind of action is being nudged out of the way, a little, and with a great amount of care."

    After playing this game numerous times and completing it's hardest difficulty I can say that it is one of my favourite games ever. The story, the combat, the visuals all make this game a real masterpiece. Nothing felt over used or exhausting and no boring mechanics. Leaving the double jump in the past and going for a close combat camera was a brilliant decision and I think probably the most important gameplay aspect. Il be playing this again for sure. After pissing off a few Norse God's that we hadn't met yet in this game, I'm sure we will see this setting again.

    I can understand why people dislike the camera change. Nostalgia is a powerful emotion. Still, my favorite moments from the old GoW games were the close up cinematic shots/gameplay & the QTE's. (GoW always did QTE's right.) Now we get this new close camera angle & now I feel like I can feel every punch, every action. Just my two cents. Thank yall for the hard work making this game. I know I'm late to this but the trend in gaming is not slower, mature, linear stories. It's open world, "games as services", microtransaction traps. Cory is spot on in his analysis of what devs think gamers want and what we actually crave.

  • @ejkk9513
    @ejkk9513 6 лет назад +1

    The way he explained the "open world craze", that's going on right now is exactly on point to my thoughts. I'm so tired of endless, pointless, side quests and trillions of collectables! I love the world design of God of War. It is linear story driven game but in open playing areas and secrets waiting to be discovered. The pacing for this game is absolutely perfect and if it was open world, it would ruin the pacing and make the game into an endless collectathion with stupid fetch quest's. Thank you Cory and the development team for this masterpiece! My favorite game of the year hands down and one of my favorite games that I've EVER played! Going back to beat it for a third time and possibly the most valuable game that I've ever spent $60 on. Thank you Sony as well for taking this risk and giving us this game. Please bring more of these types of games to the market. We are starving for them!

    I love what you guys at Santa Monica Studio do, stay the way you all are. Keep making decisions they way you do. And thank you Sony for trusting and supporting Development Studios like this one all over the world. I have the feeling that we got a GOTY featuring Kratos comming our way in just a few days, even with knowing that this could be a different type of game, probably meaning less of a hack and slash and instead a more physical, meaty, consequential kind of action combat where you need to analyze enemy movement, physique, your positioning and each weapon type present in battle.

    Why Game Informer are so good at making interviews? this one reminded me of the interview with voice cast of Metal Gear Solid, I learned from it about MGS more than I ever did either from the game itself or articles, and really felt the atmosphere they had back then and get to know each one contributed in the franchise, the trick I guess lies in the simplicity of the interview per se, IGN for instance, so fancy and inflated yet never satisfying.
    Big thumb up.

    I find it interesting he says they wanted to strip it down to the pillars of what made god of war but from what we have seen, seemed to have completely overhaul the combat. The fluidity and nimble combat mechanics is a major reason i love god of war and imo is what makes it so great. I am trying to keep an open mind but i have to admit it worries me a bit that such a major part of what i enjoyed the most from the previous games may be completely different.

    Very interested to see how this game turns out. It's God of War, so I'm going to buy it because I love the franchise but not sure I'm down with all the changes. I like a more mature character and story, absolutely fine with that. What I worry about is Kratos having the kid with him and I think I'd have preferred more hack 'n slash style gameplay like the older ones. That said, a lot of the gameplay does still seem pretty flashy so it may not be exactly the same but it could still feel close to the classic style. We'll see what happens. At worst it'll still be a very good game.

    I noticed in the b roll shots of the team working on the video game programming etc in other interviews, and I was really surprised at number of women working there. Now, knowing that the company is woman-lead, it makes perfect sense. Great to see woman leadership in this industry, showing that women can also lead the charge in creating successful action themed works, and that you don't need the whole team to consist of men to tell manly stories.
