Hello from Austria! I really enjoy your videos and love your multi cultural background, which I can definitely relate to. I know it's been said many times : your mom is such a lovely person😊
Hey guys! If you're looking for chestnut wood, which we call "castanho" in Portuguese, you can check out José Luis Madeiras in Paços de Ferreira. He probably has what you need. And if by chance he doesn’t, which I doubt, Paços de Ferreira, known as the "furniture capital," has everything you could need when it comes to wood and all sorts of sizes. As for the rising prices, it's mainly because of the high demand from English and Brazilian buyers. Us Portuguese should be thankful for that since we’ve been "running away" from the interior areas of the country. Everyone wants to live in big cities because of the infrastructure, and that’s why prices there have gone completely "crazy." Shoutout to Simon who’s killing it with the stonework. Stay strong, everyone!
Wow!!! What a coincidence! I swear after visiting that place, we got on the phone with Jose Luis Madeira in Ferreira!! So I’m so glad you have recommended them to us. They seem to have a good selection and we are due to visit them soon! Didn’t know that was the furniture capital! We definitely need to check it out for our future projects! Thank you so much for your comment! Really really helpful! ❤️❤️❤️🥳🥳 About the prices here. It’s such a shame there hasn’t been better projects for affordable living. It’s the same story in the U.K., really hard to buy properties there because the average price is well over £320k for an 1-2 bedroom place. So we get priced out and seek other places. There are many more young people moving here where we are. They usually buy really old houses and work online. Others are making cafes, bars, etc. it’s really good and the locals seem to be happy about it which it’s a huge blessing, we don’t want to come here and disrupt the local economy. Big cities in Portugal are very unreachable by the average Portuguese and even the average European. It’s only very rich people (Europe and beyond) that can afford it. Wish the did plans for locals here for affordable housing to rent and with an option to buy at a discounted fixed rate as they do in Austria.
Hello I'm watching from Saskatoon in the Canadian prairies. Really enjoyed today's video with all the questions n answers. Simon is a real master stone mason., you're fortunate to have him building for you.Your home is looking very beautiful. Enjoy the cooler weather. 👍😊💗🇨🇦
Hi Omar and Andrea I’m watching from south island New Zealand. Lived here for 21 years but proir to that lived in Poole and Wareham, a Dorset girl 😊 I beleive you did a house up there before moving to Portugal. When I first moved to NZ housing and life in general was a lot more affordable than the UK. Now not so much, cost of living is high especially food but I hear this is the same back in the UK. Thank you for your entertaining channel you have made such a lot of progress and I am a gardener too so love the garden content.
Hey Sarah! What a change that must have been, NZ sounds lovely with beautiful landscapes. I hope to visit one day. Yes, we did. We did a house in Charminster! Really nice place. Prices have gone so high in Bournemouth, we were priced out and just jumped to the deep end and moved here, no regrets! Thank you for watching and your support!
Hi! Watching from Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward Island. I think the pool should be a priority. You are working hard and need a small escape during the hottest days. Also, as you said, it can be used for protecting your home in the event of a catastrophic fire. I love watching your journey. You must be proud of it. Take care and be safe.😊
Thank you! I appreciate you saying that about the pool! Every year we think the same “aaah wouldn’t be nice to have a pool?!” Because it does get really hot. Luckily now it’s a bit fresher but we had a small scare with a big fire nearby. It was controlled after a few hours but nonetheless, its reminder of how important is to have a pool and a pump. Thank you for your support and enjoying our videos. We are proud and very thankful of our journey here and get to show it to you guys on RUclips ❤️
Hi from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 Thanks for answering these questions we all had. Your channel is fabulous I'm really enjoying it. So you're a twin Andrea... how cool is that. You both have had interesting lives so far. Simon is doing an amazing job with the stone work. Keep up the great work ladies and gents 😁 Lacey and Huxley ⚘❤

Thank you for allowing us to join you on your journey. Ailsley from Wellington, New Zealand. Originally from London, England. My family immigrated her when I was a child, I am now in my 60’s.
Awesome! Thank you! We are getting a few Kiwis here! What a great thing to be able to talk to people from all over the world. Thank you for watching! NZ looks like a gorgeous country.
How wonderful! What an absolutely gorgeous country. I’m sure you are happy there. I hope we visit it again soon but I need to do a diet before visiting because I couldn’t stop eating while I was there 😂😂 some of the best beaches I have ever seen and I’m from the Caribbean. Thanks for watching!
Nice to learn about your background Andrea and Omar. The law degree was a surprise but not surprising as I see Omar as a bright young man. The towns you drove thru reminded me of rural Germany where I served in the US Army; Augsburg for three years plus. I’m in metro Detroit Michigan and been to Canada a half dozen times. Tunnel Barbecue is great in Windsor Canada. Love seeing mom and Simon and your cooking. I now own a sauce mill too after seeing you use one. Made about three gallons of marinara sauce and then to spaghetti sauce! 😊great video 🎉
It's a beautiful place to call home, I think I started watching as you got there. Are you growing capsicum, beans, chillies, etc... Simon is doing a great job with the house. I do believe definitely a workshop is actually more important than the house atm because you need tools, etc, to build everything, then house.I see a beautiful porch on back of house then the pool, make sure you add outdoor shower. I know you said chickens for eggs and meat. Have you thought of rabbit or goat meat. You're building a dream home and have a lovely piece of land 😊 Down Under here in Australia 🇦🇺
We need to start growing the cold season veggies soon. We did grow capsicum but didn’t do well. Just had 3 big ones. I think they got overpowered by the rest of the veggies around. Will definitely try beans next season. We have so many chillies! The tiny ones!!! The very hot ones!! Maybe I make chilli oil with them. You are right about the workshop. Many next year we will do that 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Thanks for watching! ❤️
And here is "pan lid Mary"!!! Hi again! That was interesting! Thanks! I especially liked getting to see your Mama closer up! What a sweet lady! Please thank her, too, for sharing with us! My aunt makes tomato jam, ‘doce de tomate’, when there is a glut. You can buy it in the supermarket but homemade is better. I love it on a papo seco with a cup of tea, as an afternoon snack. Hi from the UK. Lived in S.A. for 17 years in Johannesburg. When you say you are going to tank the inside I just saw on a video made by 'The Scottish Isle' where they used a product to tank the inside of their stone house and it was a success may be you can see the product they used. A very interesting back ground Omar. Lovely answers to the questions. Was Simon also born in S.A.? Have a lovely day.
Thank you! I’m aware of the channel so I’ll have a look at those videos. So much better to do to this stone walls! Thanks for the tip! Simon is British!
You are not a hypocrite for shying away from slaughtering chickens yet enjoying their meat. I appreciate your honesty, and you are right that raising animals humanely and consciously improves the quality of their existence and of their meat. As for myself, my one experience plucking, cleaning and cooking a pheasant shot by my father made me a vegetarian for life.
I can completely understand and I actually think that it would really impact me. My grandmother killed a chicken for a chicken Christmas salad and I could not eat it!! See the whole thing. So I think I will probably become really aware of consuming chickens with moderation which it’s probably the best.
@jennybrandon7321 Farm animals aren't pets. Thats not a real farm. Why would you have eggs from those chickens and then go to the supermarket and buy the meat there? That makes no sense. Animals for meat in sustainable farms have been grown under fantastic conditions and loved. Do you prefer people who eat meat keep buying it from the supermarket? An industry that produces insane amounts of CO2, grows animals under horrible conditions, give them terrible food and then kill them in awful ways? or even pumped with hormones and antibiotics? That's not sustainable. If everyone actually grew the meat they consumed, the world would be a very different place. We also would consume far less meat because we would not be desensitised to a horrible industry. Kids don't even know nuggets are chickens nowadays.
@@TheIndigoEscape yes I know but my point is you might get to know them and start thinking of them as pets. I see from other You Tube channels that they keep chickens to only get eggs. I did not say if it was a good or bad thing so not sure why you seem to be attacking me?
Hi jenny, I didn't mean to sound like Im attacking you. It's really ahrd to convey the way we speak by writing it. I actually thought you were another commentor that was accusing us of "enjoying wanting to kill chickens" and came here to comment. You have similar names. Sorry about that! I understand others do something different but I find it much better to consume both eggs and meat from chickens I have risen because I will know what they have consumed. Omar has raised chickens before for meat. The best thing to do is not get attached to them. It will be hard but it's possible. Again sorry for offending you. I was just taken aback when someone said we seem to get pleasure from killing animals.. Which isnt true.
Thank you for your hard work filming, editing, recipe, and answering all those questions. ❤ Great tips 👍😊 I love your veggie garden and the flowers are beautiful! 💐 Looking forward to seeing you move to the stonehouse soon.👍✌️ Greetings from Colorado, USA. ❣️🐈❣️🐈❣️🐈❣️
Oooh, I'd love to do a tour with you! I'm looking forward to when you're able to do that. The project is coming along so nicely - Simon's masonry is top notch. You'll have SO much opportunity to flex your rehab muscles in the different phases you have planned. There are so many homes in PT that need TLC. I just want to fix them all! The housing squeeze could be resolved if all the ruins were habitable. ❤ Kudos for taking on one of them!

Hi Andrea and Omar,
I'm watching from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Good luck and best wishes for you.
My aunt makes tomato jam, ‘doce de tomate’, when there is a glut. You can buy it in the supermarket but homemade is better. I love it on a papo seco with a cup of tea, as an afternoon snack. Listening to you talk about Portugal makes me so homesick! I hope we can retire there in the future. Love your channel, especially your mum, whom I adore. Love to you all. ❤
I’ll look into Doce de Tomate! Thank you. Always good to have different recipes for tomatoes as we get so many! Hope you can retire here too, it’s a wonderful country.
Good morning from Liverpool UK x

Wow that’s very early!! Manhattan! How’s living there? I would love to visit and go to Broadway!
I also have woke up super early today and I think it’s the change of weather. I also love the holiday season. Can’t wait to have a fire to sit next it with a cup of hot chocolate! Cannot be any more cliche but it is the best! Haha
@@TheIndigoEscape its VERY expensive, of course. im not in university anymore so i dont use an alarm clock so my sleep is regulated from the moon or whatever that is. the summer is light outside at 5 am. we are going into fall so the light is coming at 5:30am. soon the time will roll back and it will mess up my rhythm until the time change back again. ill just use the extra hour and a half to go walking.😄😄
@@TheIndigoEscapeI was thinking you might get to know them and think of them as pets and may not want to kill them
@jennybrandon7321 Farm animals aren't pets.
You guys are just great! Sending love from Cape Town. Hope to meet you in person in the future.
Thanks so much! Maybe one day! ❤️
Hi I am watching from New Zealand love what you are doing

Hi guys, love watching from Melbourne, Australia😊 Ruth
Watching from Sydney, Australia. You certainly made a heap of progress on your bathroom. Wow! I made some Limoncello but it tasted very oily to me. My husband is drinking it though!
