    Hi folks,
    Simon's stonework is beautiful.
    Thankyou for answering of questions last video. Your mum is so sweet.
    I am Australian so we know how devastating wild-fires can be. We always hold our breaths when we have a particularly dry winter and head into summer. I have lived in areas where I have experienced fires on both sides of the road I was leading horses down it was terrifying. The fire moving up the valleys towards us sounded like a freight train coming. The area was right on the edge of Sydney NSW. Always remember to never leave it too late to leave if you have too.
    The fire-fighters are the true heroes as they put themselves at the forefront protecting others and property.
    Floods can be bad too especially if you live in areas with river systems.
    I live in Bundaberg Queensland and it's a beautiful regional town close to the ocean.
    I love your videos and admired how you built your mum her own little home. It shows you both value family. Cheers from Aussie ❤

      @ThaJay Месяц назад +1

      Agreed in Portugal it's well known that you don't leave your house on your own when there's a fire close. You might drive the wrong way and get yourself closed in. You stay at home and when it really gets too close the fire fighters will come to your door. They will ask where your water supply is and tell you which direction is safe to evacuate.

      Fires are probably the scariest and most worry-some fact of the countryside in Portugal, particularly in central and northern Portugal. Im glad the autumn is here. We have been told that the fire is approaching, we go to our community meeting point. If its way closer, we need to stay indoors and block all the openings with a wet rag and stay away from windows. I hope I never experience something like that.
      Unfortuntakey the eucalyptus tree has no place in portugal but it is a very useful tree in many areas, including the medical field so my guess is that it will go nowhere. We do need some serious reforestation with native plants like cork which is a very hardy plant, much more resistant to fires. Hopefully things change.

I look forward to seeing it finished. ❤

    While using the shosugi bon technique for structural items around the buildings… I find they are amazing for the garden! Raised beds and even garden borders.. to separate pathways and lawn and flower beds.. my favorite are the torched 6” x 6” beams!

    • @alannikander1987
      @alannikander1987 26 дней назад

      Another thing I love is, when working with wider grained wood, where the lines are spread apart more, torching a bit longer to burn into the softer wood more, then scraping it down and sanding smooth. The softer wood is burned a bit deeper while the harder lines stay shallow.. creates a beautiful to oook at and feel undulating pattern. (Like waves).

      Why would we assist someone skilled in a job they've been doing for years? When an electrician or plumber comes to your home to work, do you step in to help them? We focus on what we know how to do and leave tasks we’re inexperienced with to professionals. For our renovation, we hire experts and pay them to handle the jobs we can't do ourselves. We did do a section of the stones and it does look half as good as Simon’s. It takes years to learn that.
