Casting a New Foundation | Restoring a 100 Year Old Barn!

- In this video vi continue on the restauration of our 100-year-old barn by preparing the top of the old stone walls for concrete. Before we can build anything on the old walls, we need a level base to build on. During our last video we made the framework and made sure that they where level. Now it is time to start laying rebar and securing it to the stones below so that the foundation is strong enough to handle the weight of the new building. When it was ready we started to mix concrete. Let’s just say that this was an exhausting job as all the concrete had to be caried up a later and poured by hand in the forms.
We also fixed up the smallest chicken coop by laying new bedding in their outside pen and fixed up their purge and we fixed all the pot holes in our road so that the truck that delivered all our concrete did not get stuck.

Your daughter is lucky to have a great family, she looks really happy and that is definitely a blessing. I have been around someone who has suffered with epileptic fits and I know how helpless it made me feel. I hope that it doesn't happen again for as long as possible. Please give her a huge hug from South Africa.❤️
Such fortitude! I respect and admire your determination.
Nice progress on the barn foundation. I hope the concrete was wet enough to fully cure and harden. It needs the water to make the proper chemical bond and not stay in a half way state between powder and solid.
I wonder why you did not clear the way on the side of the barn that leads uphill a bit more, so you can drive the concrete mixer and bags up there on the tractor and then pour it down from the top. Seems like that would have made the work a lot easier and quicker, especially if you did the back wall first and worked your way forward from there.
Thick concrete on top of dry stacked rock. NO! Thin pour a few buckets as internal chinking with thick concrete on top. Now all you can do is some surface chinking.. some walls have some, most none. Now you need 85 #4 8' tall rebar vertically installed. You've near zero horizontal stability. Spend next summer with a chinking pump and fill those walls with mortar. It'll help with structural rigidity, warmth, and keep bugs out.
yeah excactly , i worked on conctruction with my father I was making concrete and he was making stone walls, what he did right here is very wrong and bad...that's not at all structual and could collapse. The least he can do now is fiil the emty space between the rocks with concrete it reinforces it .
Great job! I love watching people restoring old things, machinery, building or tools.
Hello from Canada !! Love what you guys are doing! Sorry to hear your daughter had an incident and hope she bounces back. prayers for your family ❤
I hope your sweet daughter recovers quickly ❤

With your work ethic you deserve all the success in the world. God bless you and your family ❤🇦🇺
Eyyy, ny video. Sweeet.
It looks like it rains way to much. I can understand why it took a while to upload this video. Prays for you and you're daughter that better days a ahead for everyone.......Cheers
The original barn wall’s were properly mortar layered stone, with what looked like concrete sill or capping blocks. So why didn’t you finish the top’s of stone walls, by bedding those finishing off stone with mortar. As the infills and especially the corners of the concrete plates are critical. For securing the roof and the trueness and pitch if needed.
Good job Pal. well done..
Good job, greetings from Barcelona.
You should consider stopping at the nearest Felleskjøpet, or Biltema(I think there's one in Ørsta) and pick up a 'Krafse' Best tool ever to scoop sand out of a tracktor bucket and evening it on the road.
The Cigman rangefinder is a neat tool. Want one, but can't justify the expense.
@@peregilpesen8209 vær no litt optimist din surpomp
You need to get a truck.
🎉 please fim and upload
Привіт з України !!! Бажаю вам здоров'я і успіхів у відновленню старого будинку !!! 😊
Rain is the worst. I would take a step back and cover that whole floor inside the foundation with 4” of gravel. You will need it later and it will make your life so much easier now. New subscriber and this reminds me of my younger self!
Hello, depuis la France 🇫🇷 Normandie.
Nouvel abonné.
Félicitations, beau travail.

Dlaczego kupujesz gotowa zaprawę betonową, jest ona kilkukrotnie droższa od zrobionej samemu, dodatkowa wadą jej jest brak kruszywa (drobnych kamieni) to one dają wytrzymałość! a praktycznie nic nie kosztują. Bardzo przygnębiająca u was pogoda !, w Polsce dni deszczowe w ostatnich dwóch miesiącach można by policzyć na jednej ręce.
Really hard work
One person himself placing and moving videos
Same person bringing cement mixer and cement himself pours concrete
Same person is bringing the reinforcement bars
Taking care of farm
And then compiles and edits videos
Keep going 👍❤️
Sorry to hear about your daughter having a seizure. She looks happy and active.
Thank you for wearing masks when doing all the dusty work with the concrete and the chicken coop. Your lungs appreciate not getting all that exposure. 😊
Great to see your efforts in restoring the farm buildings. Dedication and commitment are very evident. I wish you both all the best in your endeavours from Scotland.
Hi Eric, I've been waiting for your video, how exciting to start the barn. You must be happy with your first part of the ring beam. Doing it on your own is a huge job, but looks how far you've come already. 👍
just use simple small stones for "spacers" on your Re-Bar, as long as concrete can reach all sides of the bar. = quicker and cheaper!
Gleder meg til hver nye episode. Fint å følge dere. Håper det går greit med jentungen.
You are doing a great job my friend and I am no expert but a little more editing would show the same results more effectively you are a craftsman you do the world a favour good job
I also made concrete on my house today. 😄Good job. I hope you can finish your work before the snow is comming.
You work so hard. And you wife too, looking after the children. I hope your daughter is stable now.❤
Endelig ! ventet lenge på de gode videoene 🙂. blir alt for lenge mellom videoene.
I agree. You placed dry stones on top of the dry wall. You now have very little adhesive to the foundation.
You have saved the stone walls for sure. Have you got any plans for the tower section, do you know what it was used for? 🤔
Awesome video. I wish I was there to help you. Dream vacation for me!
Bonjour bravo tip top super cool pour le boulot courage pour la suite. Mais béton et pierre ne font pas bon ménage.
2nd: please adopt me, I want Norwegian citizenship.
I would have made a way to drive the tractor inside the barn, first.
so sorry to hear about that baby girl, prayers for strength, good luck
Why not ibolts straight up to bolt down the wood boards for the walls
Good health to you and your familly and happy days ahead!
new sub here, wait'n on the next vid with anticipation👍👍
True enjoy the good parts of life , good video 👍
I've not seen the dog for some time, has something happened?
Very refreshing video. Thank you
Hi, let the cat free because it doesn't run away from you, it's used to it, it's ok, I like the way you work, I'm following you from Northern Ireland, show the sheep when you have time, please!
They don't want to release it until they have sterilized it, which I can understand.
Very very good thank you my friends ❤
You have saved the stone walls for sure. Have you got any plans for the tower section, do you know what it was used for? Even with the rain you have done an epic amount of work, much more than I thought possible working alone. Wow, can't wait to see the next update, take care and enjoy your family time.❤️
The "tower" is a silo where they kept silage as feed for the winter. There is even a little corn chipper that still sits out in the middle of one of the fields, so it makes sense that they made corn silage on the farm at some point. I guess they could have used grass to make silage too, as some years it might be very hard to get enough sunny days to make enough hay for the winter season.
Nice video. How to get more subscribers you need to use #hash tags in front of each of your descriptions of everything. Example #100 year old barn, #Norwegian farm, etc... when people do a search for what they are looking for then your site will show up for them.
If he wanted to he would have already
A new cat....what did you do with your dog?
Another fantastic video 😊
Plis los subtítulos en español!!!! Saludos desde Argentina
Done🤠👍
Good video’s Eric

No, I don't subscribe or like because 10 ads for a video is too much. You make videos only for money and which are of no interest !!
