Link to the crowdfunding: 4fund.com/yuewuw For the past two years the Northmen Guild have been working on an exciting and unique project, the construction of a historically faithful, timber framed forging workshop to act as a new centre for the Guild’s blacksmiths. The forge, designed as a space to exalt the creativity of the artisans and inspire visitors and students, will be open for all to visit as part of the wider woodworking museum and forest park at “Vienkocu Parks, Ligatne.” Designed and constructed in large part by master blacksmith and timber framer Soeren Uhlmann (@uhlmann_blades on Instagram) the building has risen steadily over the months and now stands close to completion. Soeren has travelled widely across the world for the last decade, from Northern Europe to the South Pacific, honing and expanding his skill set working with numerous master craftsmen in blacksmithing, leatherworking, jewellery making and carpentry. The raising of the forge marks the culmination of this journey to mastery, setting down solid roots with the aim of continuing the spread of knowledge and expertise in these ancient crafts. The Guild’s vision for the forge encompasses artistry, education and preservation. We seek to create a space where blacksmiths from all corners of the globe will be welcome to practise their craft, share their expertise, and create beautiful and functional works of art. We seek to educate beginners, amateurs and enthusiasts by offering intensive, two to three week long training courses in blacksmithing. Utilising the established model of the Northmen Guild timber framing courses, these masterclasses will teach the skills and confidence to begin (or continue) participant’s education as blacksmiths and craftspeople. We seek to preserve and protect the skills and traditions handed down to us by generations of masters from ancient times until today. Not only are the techniques, methods and skills of the trade worthy of preservation, so too is the philosophy that underlies them. The exaltation of craft over business, value over price, quality over quantity, artistic creation over mass production. One final push is necessary to finish and round off the project. Whilst the building stands ready, it is empty of much of the specialist equipment required for a fully equipped, multi functional blacksmithing workshop to reach its full potential. All donations will go towards purchase and installation of equipment that will make this forge a world class centre for blacksmithing. Our ideal timeline will see the workshop fully equipped and ready to realise its potential for artistry, education and preservation by New Year’s Day, 2025. We hope to have you as part of the team that will make this guild's community forge the most special place to create, learn and teach. 4fund.com/yuewuw
Would be cool if you could reserve a knife or something made by e.g. apprentices at this glorious forge by donating a certain amount with delivery by 2026 or later 😉 Amazing craftsmanship but I hardly bring myself to donate cents for anything without a „deal“ 😂
@@pflegefachkraft7595 Hi, thank you for the interest in the project. The leader of the project would gladly get in contact with you directly. If you want you can write him a DM via his Instagram. (Uhlmann_blades) You can directly approach him there.🙂
Beautiful. This is what is missing in the world, everything needs to be so cost efficient and fast to build, no passion and love is put in to creations like houses anymore. This house is built in love, so much skill and hard work. What a pleasure to be in this house on a stormy cold day If I could pause my life right now I would love to come and work with you guys, learn the skills and be creative.
Exactly, what the world needs is to take more time creating and building things. Everyone is in a hurry yet no one knows why they are hurrying or what they are hurrying towards. Maybe everyone is running because they are afraid of death and they believe that by running they are gaining more time and being better at surviving. Yet this is far from true.
Thank you so much for creating and sharing this wonderful video! I genuinely enjoyed every minute of it and felt connected to the way you documented everything. It was clear how much effort and thought you put into capturing all the little details, and I really appreciate that. Watching it felt like being part of the journey, and I could tell it came from a place of passion and care. Your work left a lasting impression on me, and I’m grateful for the experience. Thank you again for such an inspiring piece!
Heartfelt gratitude for your vision and passion for worthy traditions. Better words than mine are needed to express the power of your deeds in bringing this cathedral of crafts into the world. Share, donate, repeat!
I’m more than happy to help accross the Atlantic Ocean. I’m looking forward to see another field of craftsmanship inside that magnificent building you raised. Keep up the good work, it is always a pleasure to follow you!
I don’t even need to watch more after a minute,I already know this will be a thing of beauty! The workmanship and camaraderie is amazing! The talented #erikgrankvist brought me to you
Hello guys and wow thanks for posting a new video of one of your bills great foundation work. Looking forward to the next video and thank you again for sharing you guys do phenomenal work. And the house has come out beautiful

They are indeed antique tiles from the local area, we've been keeping an eye on how they shed water during heavy storms, so far they are working as intended
Donated. Such an incredible project and its coming along beautifully. Shared in the discord too. Someday, me and the lads will complete one similar.. (or I can only hope)
That's actually exactly what we did as well. We had a super dry and hot summer last year. But this spring when we build the chimney wall we had to do the opposite. We had to dry them next to a fire otherwise the mortar just turned into water. 😂
@@ken_U_seet no worries, I didn't take it I'm any bad way. 🙂 My reply was more of an agreement. And I find it cool that you pointed that little detail out, it's informative for people that wonder about such things. I am truly glad you enjoy our work.
Just what I need over here in Japan. I have a dismantled temple that could become a wonderful building for a different purpose. However, needing guys like you are a must to achieve this. Just a dream that will (most likely) not materialize.
Jakże wspaniały projekt ! Oglądanie procesu tworzenia, doskonałej harmonii i trudu włożonego przez ekipę aż zapiera dech... Pozdrowienia z Polski! Thomas
Hi guys, that's quite a workout, but the work looks amazing. In my region we are using wood to built something similar, you can have a look for Maramures traditional houses and traditional gates. Love your work. Stay safe on the jobsite. Well done.
The little archway built at the beginning of the video was nice, but how structurally sound? I thought that the best way to build this was by having all the bricks used cut into wedges. Then, when installed, the pressure of them pushing against each other would be enough to hold the structure together while also being able to sustain a load bearing weight. That would also remove the necessity for, or using, any mortar.

Beautiful 😍
Thank you. I've learned much. 🖤
Totally amazing!!!
It does look like the shingles will allow water to pass through with hard driving rain and a lot of wind.
Right, they hardly overlap. But they also look like antique shingles from that region. So it somehow works?
They are indeed antique tiles from the local area, we've been keeping an eye on how they shed water during heavy storms, so far they are working as intended
Oh you are really amazing. The shapes you give to the trees are fascinating. Greetings from Türkiye

Beautiful work.. we usually soak the bricks first so it doesn’t burn up your mud and pull out the moisture to quick

A loft for a bednook and a bread oven on the backside of the forge and this would be my dream home.
