It's so good to see some Youth still carry on with passing knowledge from generation too generation, My Father and Grandfather where both Master Craftsman, if only I could bottle up all that knowledge and pass it on.. :)
Where there is a will, there is a way. Necessity is the Mother of ALL invention. These skills that were used in this video have been around since the beginning of time and will more often than not be around until the end of the Earth.
@Liar Department A lot of us want to do things like this. The problem is usually money, even if you can source everything you need to build it you still need land. I wish I could just go into the woods and try to build something, even if it's not any good I'd still learn from it and make it better next time. But all the land is owned and I'd have to buy it first. And I can't just buy any land either, because you need permits and stuff in order to build something there and you need people that inspect it for safety and other regulations, and that costs money too. It's really driving me crazy that even if you want next to nothing to do with society you still have to be involved in it. Only thing I can do is keep working for a society and a system I don't like or agree with in order to save up enough money to maybe one day be able to buy some land where I can live and do what I want. When all you want to do is cut down some trees, built a cabin, grow some vegetables and keep a couple of animals, and society says "no, you have to work for us in order to have a chance to do that" it makes me feel like a prisoner in my own country. I've even been toying with the idea of just taking some land by force, but that's not very realistic either. In today's world we're all borne into slavery, we're expected to specialize very narrowly and serve society as a cog in the machine.

Maybe not knowing if I will find it again makes watching it so much sweeter. Thank you for giving peace to so many people (I can see other comments feeling the same).

I have designed and helped assemble a number of timber frame buildings, but I have never seen anything with this level of skill and beauty, inside and out, in a modern build. What a warm, grace filled home!
I love you people that had the fortitude to start and complete something so complex and ultimately so beautiful. What a legacy for your efforts. What an example to young people of today to get back to traditional methods, that on the surface may seem "old school", but really employ ancient, energy efficient "tech", combining all the things many of us aspire to, insofar as the slow movement, environmental sustainability, and a rebuilding of our souls. Thank you, thank you, from an old carpenter who wishes he had done this himself. Maybe there is still time.

The cutscenes to the children playing in the fields encapsulates the wonder and innocence of such an accomplishment like building your own home. Absolutely incredible work. No doubt an unimaginable toll on your bodies and minds. But once its all built, living in that home must come with the most amazing sense of peace.
That is by far the most beautiful video I've seen in a long time. The music was wonderful and the photography was extremely good. I felt as if I was following you and your family on the journey of a lifetime and learned a lot along the way. My favorite part of the house as a whole was the fireplace. It was just gorgeous. You have a wonderful family jacob. Your beautiful wife and kids are a blessing beyond all blessing and I've enjoyed watching this. I think it's time for my family to build a house now. Thank you and GOD bless you my brother.

It is wonderful that these skills haven't been forgotten and are being passed down, creating a new generation of craftsmen. Bless you and your family as you enjoy this "work of heart" for many years to come.

Beautiful family and beautiful house. Well done John. If you own enough land, you might consider to open a school teaching the same techniques you used to build your house. Or make an other video adding directions, commentaries, or notes on the steps of each phase you built that house. a lot of people will be grateful. Thank you for sharing and Good luck.
this is the best timber framing of a home video i've ever seen! and quite possibly the best video on RUclips. only wish i could do this in america, but my local building codes inspector's would lose their minds.
look for historical exemptions/exclusions/waivers buried in the building code for log cabins. some municipalities county districts allow for such things.
Kris Hammer what would make it expensive. I live in sweden which has among the most thorough building codes there is in the world, and Lithuania isn't far behind either. Neither her not there building codes is a real problem. Usually they are there for a reason and you can accommodate them in your project. It takes a bit of planning for sure. Bit that's about it.
I can't speak for everywhere but here in Nova Scotia, Canada you have to have someone come out and make sure that your wood is "dry" between 17% and 19% enough and all of your plans have to have an engineers stamp of approval on the plans for the house and both of those from my understanding can cost around $70,000 to $100,000
I can only say; thank you, thank you, thank you. For showing me the love for wood, carpentry, family and life as it should be. This video has been an enormous inspiration to me.
Just wanted to say that this movie was absolutely beautiful. Especially seeing things age throughout gave you a connection to the whole thing. Amazing work!
That is easily the finest display of efficient carpentry & heartfelt humanity I think I have ever laid my big brown eyes on. Inspiring, and totally tiring...sleep must come easy at the end of days like these.
Fast track this dude for manliest man of the decade. How does this guy not have a reality show? I'd watch him building cabins every week! Incredible workmanship = incredible final result. Write a book!
'Northmen'...thank you for sharing this with us all. I truly appreciated the video in it's entirety from beginning to end. I further appreciate the fact you showed us viewers that this type of effort and life is nourishment for the human soul. It's comforting that a younger generation seeks out this type of life and thus there is 'hope' for humanity. May your home keep you and your family healthy and happy.
This is unimaginable. Very inspiring, although I could only hope to ever accomplish a fraction of such an achievement. You have restored my faith in humanity a little more good sir. Well done.

I’ve watched this 100’s of times. Whenever I’m discouraged from work. This inspires me again to follow the craft. Just a great film from gifted craftsmen.
This home is by far the most astounding thing I have seen in a very long time. The amount of work and dedication that this took is beyond my comprehension. This is my inspiration. I too dream of building a house for my family in a such an heirloom quality fashion. Well done. There is something God given in all of this.
Incredible. I’ve been a builder and a craftsman for over 20 yrs and would give anything to spend a few months with these guys building. This is next level craftsmanship and work ethic.... phenomenal
I love it. beautiful shots, the music, the colour, all come together beautifully and most importantly, beautiful family! Regards from Melbourne Australia.
From this custom home designer / builder to your family, what an awesome job and a whole lot of work and love you have put into your home. God bless my friends.
From an American who appreciates craftsmanship, thank you for this video! The fact that almost all of this house was done with hand tools makes it even better. Can tell it took a long time due to the growth of your lovely daughters. Most of my fellow countryman would have given up if it took more than a month (not that they would last one full day of the labor you put into this home). I'm sure that home will make a family keepsake for many generations to come!

@@dudeidontcare3430 um yes. I even went to an annual event which celebrates our pagan ancestry. And yes, i am Latvian myself. Edit: spelling mistake.

yes but the process that involves you using your own wood is very expensive
Alaska.
I can't speak for everywhere but here in Nova Scotia, Canada you have to have someone come out and make sure that your wood is "dry" between 17% and 19% enough and all of your plans have to have an engineers stamp of approval on the plans for the house and both of those from my understanding can cost around $70,000 to $100,000
It’s cool to see your kids growing up as the house is built.
Simply beautiful. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity...
This is one of the finest made vids I have ever watched.

That is easily the finest display of efficient carpentry & heartfelt humanity I think I have ever laid my big brown eyes on. Inspiring, and totally tiring...sleep must come easy at the end of days like these.

They are woodworking masters. Just beautiful.
I’m french carpenter, i love your work, your determination. You are amazing ! You have a gold in your hand and your heart 💪

This home is by far the most astounding thing I have seen in a very long time. The amount of work and dedication that this took is beyond my comprehension. This is my inspiration. I too dream of building a house for my family in a such an heirloom quality fashion. Well done. There is something God given in all of this.
How long did this take?
mormonsurvival It took 3 years.

Wonderful project… Blessings from Mexico to your lovely family.
i watch the video from time to time again and again. its wonderful!
I've watched this video several times!!! I keep returning!!!! Thank you Jacob !! May GOD bless you and your family
He also lives in a homogeneous, traditional european christian nation, do you think it has something to do with that, just maybe?
@Robermat The health service isn't anything to behold here in Latvia. If you want decent healthcare, you might as well go for the private option, which costs a lot of money.
@@dudeidontcare3430 Half Christian half Pagan ;)
@@siggy2609 um nope. Cringe.
@@dudeidontcare3430 um yes. I visited Vec Rīgu (Old Riga) thia summer and the government itself had written on a historical showpiece that both Christians and Pagans showed up for Jāņu svētkiem (celebration of the summer solstice) and also pagan symbols and folklore is very prevelant in our culture. I even went to an annual event which celebrates our pagan ancestry. And yes, i am Latvian myself.
Edit: spelling mistake.
Excellent craftsmanship, wonderful video production, and delightful subjects. This home will embrace all who enter. Thank you!
Vislabākie novēlējumi visiem!
This is always a pleasure to watch. A great community,
This is, By Far, the most kick-butt build I have seen yet. I've been following this type thing for over 30 years, and this is the best ever. Dick's jaw would drop, I'm sure. Satriecošs!!!

These people know the riddle of steel: The strength isn't the steel, but the hand that wields it. In a race to touch the sky, we forgot to look back at what we left behind.
Excellent comment.
Just amazing !
You sir are a master of all trades !

Wonderful work and finished with just fantastic! Congratulations straight from Brazil - South America
It's stupid, the amount of time and effort you put into this. It's stupid to compare this magnificent build, to any concrete and brick building done in 6 months. I fell in love with this house in the first minute of the vid, and from the north of Spain, from my 400 (four hundred) years old house, that is an incredible work you did there. Thank you very very much for all the hard work, and I sincerely hope you and your familiy, to live a long and happy life in there.
thank you.
regards from Serbia to real MAN
You are true craftsmen. That is the most beautiful house I have ever seen. Especially with the cross and bough wreath. If you will come to the USA I will hire you to build my house. I have the trees standing on site. In this area, horse hair was used in the wall plaster for strength and structure.
Wow!!! This is possibly and simply the most Beautiful, Beautiful wooden house that I've ever seen. I love the true family atmosphere. Thank you for sharing this!!! God Bless :-)
