Very useful video. My lawn being small means I do all my work with basic hand tools - mowing, edging, aerating and scarifying. Although my favourite take away from this vid is storing kit in a wheelie bin! Haha
ah to have a small yard (garden). Here in America I have 20 acres and mow 2 around my house and have flower beds galore and its a bit tougher to stay on top of. I guess that's why we would just use RoundUp on your gravel and then go watch telly.
Good tips, thank you. I'm not sure we have these tools in the US but will look for them. I often use inexpensive dollar store serrated bread knives for small area edging. And for cutting through fine roots. You can easily dig deep using them.
I have been contemplating bringing my lawn out from one end of the garden,it is right to the fence/hedge and I was thinking bedding would be a nice change.
Glad this video came up. I had a scarifying incident earlier in the year that left my lawn about 25% grass & 75% top soil (poor maintainance for about 3 years lol). I've been following this project of yours to bring it back. It's now looking amazing and my next job on it is edging. So good timing :^))
If you have a sprinkler system you need to be careful when edging around shrubs! You could easily cut this connection coming from the grass so you need to be aware of where these lines are buried
It is starting to be Fall of 2023, and grass has stopped growing. I bought a Weed Wacker with an edger and could have saved myself money had I watched your video. I want my sister's yard to look just like this!
Nice crisp edges there Matt. You need to abrade back some of that surface rust on your shear blades though. I find wet and dry paper and Wd-40 works well. Then liberally apply a lubricating oil (like 3in1) over the blades to protect them from moisture and rusting. You can also give them a quick sharpen with an oil stone and give the nut a tweak to tighten it. That will keep the shears sharp, smooth and cutting well. 👍🏻
Great video thanks for the tip, you got mad skills. Which one do you prefer curve or straight shaft edger and what is your reason, have you tried the gator blades or it doesn't matter? Thanks
Excellent video mate with some great bits of advice. In terms of treating older lawns and trying to get more grass in them what lawn treatment products would you recommend? Any advice welcome. Simon
I've applied my A1 lawn seed this weekend following your series on the front lawn. Sprinkler system is on this morning but hoping the bad weather that's forecast will help. I'm a bit unsure whether I used enough topsoil to sow the seed so may grab another few bags to top-dress. What you reckon?
A light covering of the seed will improve the germination, you dont need to deeply bury them just a light covering to help retain moisture, reduce bird take and improve soil contact. You could also lightly walk or roll the seeds/topsoil down to improve contact
Hi there! Recent subscriber here, loving your vids. Quick question if I may? I’ve taking the existing turf off my lawn and rotivated it. There are is in shade almost all day. Rather then laying new turf down I’m considering seeding it. What turf or seeds would you recommend that do well in shaded areas? Btw, my soil has a fair amount of clay in it 😬 thanks ☺️
ive used a1 premiership pro for my front which has a good rooting system but the a1 range also has a specific shady mix which is one of their best sellers amzn.to/329jLeK
Thanks for the video mate, I'd spent a long time looking for this type of video and information. Very Very helpful, keep up the good work, love all your videos and product information...
Good video, though never thought of tool 3, but mines all normal edging. I even bought one of those Bosch battery edging tools... only used once lol. Gathering dust now, prefer the old fashioned edging shears too👍
Garden Lawncare Guy aha 😄 Don’t know about you but those Bosch type mowers drive me nuts. Push mowers are great but I find those ones far too ‘plasticy’. I’d recommend having a look for a classic one on eBay, like a qualcast or something I picked up a decent one for just £20, plus a sharpener and grease for the chain it only cost me about £35 total for a good as new good quality mower. Oh and I ordered some of the premiership pro seed for my back lawn today, thanks to your recommendation. I was contemplating Kentucky Bluegrass (Smooth stalked meadow grass as it’s known in the UK) but with such long germination times I think I’ll have to wait to play with that for a proper reno some day.
Morning, a quick question about greenkeepers secret. I have used about four applications now using the hose attachment on the bottle. I have noticed that hardly any of the solution gets used, is this usual in your experience ? Good informative vid as usual. Cheers
Garden Lawncare Guy OK, thanks, that’s brilliant. I was wondering whether the dispenser part of the bottle may be faulty. Must admit, it is a really easy way to apply the product, so I hope it’s just me.
@@SnoopyReads That's not precisely what I wrote. I assume HE could achieve the same result for free. Money (being paid for doing something) doesn't make the difference on how skilled you're. Therefore the only word left that is related to money is professional here, not quality neither look? A professional is someone getting paid for some kind of activity then. But is every professional skilled? And who decides what's realised qualitative or not? This seems to be a very empirical & presumptuous allegation. And finally what's a look? Is it judging something only on appearances or aspects and leading to grant superficiality some sort of pompous & futile consideration. I'm rubbish at gardening but I just brought this tool and now I know how to use it and it was made to look easy :)
Wow, the initial before and after was very beautiful and impressive.
Great video, as always. Good to watch a UK based lawn expert.
Thanks GS K
You are so thorough, well spoken and organised in this video. This is just so great to learn a new landscaping skill.
Thanks for the feedback 😀

so pleased all of the grass filled out
Thanks me too, would have been abit ironic if it didn't work 🤣
Good tip on using your foot for the edging, will definitely do it doing forward

Looking forward to your full review of the Bosch push mower as I'm thinking of getting one for next year.

Yeah, you can see I don't use them much :D thanks for the tips, I need to look after the manual stuff a little better

Nice video pal. I think a lot of people forget about good hand tools.
Sometime I quite like going back to basics!
@@GardenLawncareGuy me too, feel more at one with the job. Unless it's fencing then it's all about the concrete breaker 😂

Thanks mate, checkout Gardenlawncareguy.com if you have bare spots overseeding usually the way to fill in
Stunning lawn! Looking forward to you changing out the wood border for stone or brick. Also the shrubs need mulch, is that not common in UK?
Great tutorial video and new subscriber. I will be binge watching all your videos.

Great video.. But how did u edge with the knife 😁☀️😎
I lost the footage as it didn't record right :X but I push it down the gap to chop the grass, works a treat
I see. ok cool got it thanks
Saw this and SUBSCRIBED!
💪 thanks
Yes nice I do the half moon and then a kitchen knife makes it mint

I've looked at one of those, i really don't like doing the edges as much as mowing but I'm starting to get into a routine with the manual tools
Garden Lawncare Guy if you edge, it frames your lawn and makes everything sharp to the eye👍
Looks good!
Thanks
What are the downside of using manual push mowers like you should over say an electric??
Any tips on how to remove rust stains from lawn fertiliser on paving bricks?
Can you try edging with an electric strimmer please?
I dont have one but I'm thinking about it as i don't like doing my edges!
@@GardenLawncareGuy I tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago, messy with soil / bark but maybe worth another shot at some point.

Very nice job. Think you can take it lower than that mind you.
Yeah I am leaving the front lawn longer and will take the back down with the cylinder. To give a mix of different looks

What do you mean exactly by professional quality look?
Something you would pay for
