  • Engine Had a Miss on cylinders 1&5. Injector 1 had a broken return spring. Cylinder 5 had not improved with a injector swap. A relative compression test Showed cylinder 5 having no compression at all. Suspecting a valve or piston issue. Found two bent valves on cylinder 5. Pistons on 5 and 6 were both missing a inch of material. With other pistons starting to come apart. All the cylinder liners had no scoring. Despite the amount of material missing from rear cylinders. Customer had Bought a ex fleet truck. That always felt under-powered. Truck had even been derated in horsepower from factory engine tag. Turbo vanes from outside apeared undamged from debris. But, with housing removed the vanes were damaged further in. It is suspected The engine had a previous failure and was quick put back together for resale. The current owner uses truck on farm so it did not get the amount of runtime. A normal OTR truck would. Thus delaying failure. Engine oil prime and start up at 28:30.

    Love watching your RUclips stuff. Can you answer a question? I have a 3406E 5EK PREFIX, AND MY EXHAUST TEMP IS between 900-1000 post turbo on a pull. Does this sound too high,or about right?

    I didn't see anybody checking liner protrusions. Maybe I missed it. Good job anyway guys.

      Liner Protrusion was low. Customer declined repairing. It was documented. They wanted back together for farm work. Engine got more work done couple months later. As head gasket started to leak. Not all rebuild can be proper out of frame jobs. Especially if customer is on a budget or time limited. Risks were explained to them. With the result coming back to get repaired properly rest second time.

      @JessHuberd good Job, but a rebuild with out the spec liner protrusion in my opinion it's a waste of your hard work and the costumers money. Great video!

      325ft/lbs but I knew a Mexican did all his 400 and they are torque turn and always buy new bolts& washers and chase threads in block..

    Every time I watch a cat get an in frame, where the tech doesn’t check for protrusion, i cringe knowing your gonna have head gasket issues in the future.

      Protrusion was checked. It was lower then spec. But, being harvest season. Had to have it "right now" and denied proper repair. They did bring it back after harvest for proper repair.

    I hope those are new head bolts and did you check liner height?

      Didn't look like it and always use a flat block to surface prep deck ect not your palm with a piece of sand paper.

    • @JessHuberd
      @JessHuberd  Год назад +1

      Liner height was low and block deck surface was out of spec. Customer declined proper repair. It would be a extra month to get block done as outside machine shop was backed up. I don't recall using sandpaper. Which I do normally use a block. This was awhile ago now and not everything was recorded.

      @JessHuberd my sand paper comment was a general one for those fellers who love grinders,sandpaper in palm and rollover disks.you did a good job but I would of wanted them holes in spec but some guys don't understand what happens 6 months latter right?
