ASMR 8bitdo Retro Mechanical Keyboard Test WITH CAT! - 8bitjoystick
This thing looks great, feels great. Sounds great. As an older computer user (old enough to actually use the term computer user). I miss the era of mechanical keyboards and this bad boy is several times the size, weight and heft of the Logitech bluetooth keyboard that it is replacing. Don’t get me wrong Logitech makes some good stuff but this is just in a completely different weight class.
I am totally going to order 8bitdo’s NES themed mouse after getting this!

I got the Fami edition too. This thing feels so good to type on that I've already decided that I don't want to type on anything else. And this is coming from someone who was previously using a keyboard with excellent Cherry MX Red switches. The Kailh Box V2 White switches in the 8BitDo Retro Keyboard strike a great balance between smooth typing and tactile feedback.
I bought this for the rad Famicom aesthetics but I'm going to keep using it for the awesome typing experience. It feels so much better than a little Bluetooth keyboard I was using
I just ordered the NES version of this.. cant wait omgee 🤭
I have used it as my main keyboard for a month and I love it. Very comfortable.
Just picked one of these up. I have a ton of keyboards, and thought they were pretty good as far as "feel" goes. This one is by far the best.
I know my review focused more on how it looks, but the more I use it the more I love how it feels
I would buy the keyboard and swap out the switches to Zaku switches
Zaku switches? Is that you Red Comet?!? Are you some kind of Principality of Zeon supporter? Honestly the stock switches are good enough for me in this one.
I hope they put those big buttons in their gamepads as well, i can imagine certain games would work good with using those big ass buttons
Well they are gigantic. It would be interesting to play track and field on NES with them.
imagine reviewing a keyboard and not typing anything on the video.Literally came to the video to hear the typing sound of the mechanical switch. Dude you are a joke
I guess you didn't see the follow-up video that I listed in the description in the comments. You're welcome.

WHERE CAT!😡

Damn Im still torn between the NES and the FamiCom version. The sound of the keyboard is more than enough for me. Clicky but not to the point that its too loud
Well it's not super loud, but it feels like an IBM keyboard from the 1980s. That's a very good thing. I actually find myself typing faster on this than my little Bluetooth keyboard that it replaced
I would have liked to seen more gold, backlights, and maybe a numpad on this keyboard. I really, really like it and the kana on the keycaps is a nice touch.
Well, the original Famicom did not have a power light. I actually like the fact that it doesn't have a numerical keypad. I rarely use those and I like that. It is big and comfortable. By the way, the kana on the keyboard is not just there to be cool, but it's a legitimate japanese keyboard. They designed this thing to be sold in Japan as well.
@@8bitjoystick I know
Does it work as a japanese keyboard??
Yes! It works as a Japanese keyboard if you set it to Japanese in your OS.
ive been looking to replace my keyboard and i laughed when i saw that you were using the same logitech keyboard as me. its a great unit but ive been wanting something with a little personality to it. great review!
Well, the full size keyboard is a lot more comfortable. I like my little Logitech keyboard, but it's no longer what I'm mainly using. I initially got this keyboard for the aesthetics but now I love it for the ergonomics.
Does it work on mac os??
Yes. I am a Macintosh user myself and I use it with the latest edition of macOS. Both USB and Bluetooth worked perfectly. I'm actually using it with a Mac in this video.
I am already so convinced to buy this it looks amazing!!
You know when I made this video I primarily talked about how it looked. The longer I use it the more happy I'm with how it actually feels.
If God used a wireless keyboard it would be this one.
What's crazy is how many ways it can connect to a computer. There's Bluetooth, there's a USB 2.4g dongle and if you connect the USB port to a computer, I think you can actually use it as a USB keyboard. I regret not spending more time typing on it on this video because since then it has been an absolute ergonomic comfortable joy to use.
From what Game ist that music? Habe me Instant Flashbacks to my childhood but can’t remember the game 😅

@@8bitjoystick Thanks! 👌
Can you use this with an iPad ?
Yes. It supports Bluetooth and it works great on my Mac so I bet it works for iPad
what do those star and heart buttons on the top left do?
The star is fast key mapping buttons so you can program what the big additional external buttons do. The heart button is for switching profiles. Apparently you can download additional software and have different profiles for customizing what the buttons and f keys do. I can see this thing being popular with programmers, but I'm looking forward to using it for video editing
@@8bitjoystickAppreciate the response, i have no idea what i would use the extra external buttons for at all haha. The whole thing looks nice, and i like 8bitdo. But no backlight or num pad keeps me on the fence about actually buying it.
@@meloboi8411oh I'm completely down with no number pad. I actually greatly prefer using the number row on top of the keyboard. And I sort of think LED light up keyboards are a little garish. I actually find myself typing a lot faster on this bad boy.
another keyboard review without a typing test.
Well. This comment reply was typed with the very same keyboard. It works. It works quite well.
@@8bitjoystick it's really more about the sound. i've no doubt that it can produce RUclips comments.
@@naryanr1:50 did you skip this part then?
@@Narding5566 I assume you're referring to those two seconds between 1:52 and 1:54 ?
Yeah I don't know about you but generally speaking two seconds doesn't satisfy anyone.
Yeah I also want a sound type test. I want to know if it has any spring pinging. If it has spring ping I’m not buying it.
Hopefully they have more color scheme with brown switches and a built in palm rest on the V2.... ill hold off til then... glad to finally see a decent normal review from someone
What would the brown switches resemble? I actually really like the old school design. I have been using computers since the early '80s and it is deliciously retro. Also, I wouldn't call my video a "decent normal review" but I guess I'll take the compliment
@@8bitjoystick I just mean like a normal person that's not a tech influencer... Also the brown switches are a quieter tactile... I also like the old school design a lot too I just wish there was different color schemes....
