    Received mine today and it's pretty amazing so far. My only "complaint" so far are the thermals. Not the cpu and gpu temps, but the chassis temperature. The cpu and gpu temps are actually fine, about 80-90 for the cpu and under 80 for the gpu. But because the chassis conducts heat very well, you can really feel that heat under your fingers.

    I just find the marketing so disingenuous. Made to deceive. Using the "name" to get folks to buy them. Most people aren't as smart as you or your viewers, so when they hear "RTX 3080" for instance, they think they are getting the latest desktop like performance. And the wattage of the laptop versions varies so much, yet it is like pulling teeth without anesthetic to figure out which one it is. Are you getting the full (laughs in desktop) 150w variant, or the low end 80w one? This is not a dig at you, Jarrod. You are the best laptop reviewer on the net. In fact, I am glad you are here helping folks, giving them thorough and unbiased reviews on products. I rate your integrity right up there with Steve²! (Tech Jesus and Monitor Steve)

    Thanks for the review. Wholly smokes…Just received this notebook with QHD and 3070, I previously owned a Razer blade 17 pro (2060 FHD 144hz) and sold it after one interstate trip. I do miss the larger display but it was way too heavy to carry around. I fired up escape from tarkov, pubg, cod, bf5, balders gate 3, arma 3, it breezed through them, to my surprise, it performed so well, smooth gameplay all well above 60 fps, no lag and noise level is surprisingly quiet under load. The 1440P IPS 165hz is top notch, much better quality than my previous Razer laptops which suffered from terrible backlight bleed. sure it doesn’t have perfect black but the picture quality is sharp with vibrant colours, not to mention great response time. For comparison, I think it is even more responsive than my LG CX OLED 4K display which I use with my main PC rig which is running an AIO 6800XT. Anyways, this thing is worth considering if minimum weight and size are your primary requirements and you need the horsepower for demanding games without the hideous gamer / cheap looking design/

    reality is most people are not going to spend 3k on a laptop. They should have sent out some 3060 units to compare it to the g14 which is 300 cheaper and probably better in a few areas.

  • @Hyokkuda
    @Hyokkuda 3 года назад +1

    I think Razer really messed that up. Soldered memory stick and now only one storage slot. People will be forced to upgrade to something like a Sabrent Rocket Q 8TB NVMe SSD and have to reinstall all the drivers and software and create a new image recovery because the factory recovery will be wiped clean. They shouldn't have to be so cheap on the storage... :/ And 16 GB is not enough... As for the design, I think they cheaped out on that too for what it costs. The Project Valerie was the perfect route they could take - even with just one monitor.

    The case design is better and I like that the default color is black, not silver. However, the decision not to go with the 5900HS is puzzling. 35 watt chips make so much more sense for portable laptops. I keep waiting for one that can run decently on USBC (so under 100 watts). I think the g15 can do it in silent mode. The ultimate travel/plane laptop will have to wait for next gen it appears.

    Hey Jarrod, thanks so much for the comprehensive and detailed breakdown. I'm expecting mine next week (3070 model) and I have question about external monitor use: If you use an external monitor, would you recommend running the laptop opened or closed? If the laptop is open, I would assume thermals would be slightly better, as the heat has more space to dissipate. However, I'm not sure if running both the internal and external displays will degrade performance? At the same time, running the laptop connected to a monitor and closed, could increase thermals?

    I know you had mentioned in previous comments that you were primarily focusing on gaming laptops first and foremost, so I may well be answering my own question. But I would love to see you cover the new gen 4 thinkpad p1 coming later this summer. I’m curious to see what wattage 3080 they’ll use, how the thermals will be for gaming, and how it stacks up compared to other strictly gaming oriented laptops. Not sure what the screen and refresh rate options will be (looks like 16:10 UHD or QHD but no refresh rates yet). It would be the dream setup if it could hold its own as a gaming laptop and a decent workstation for my engineering course work. I wish more gaming laptops could have that understated/professional look. It’s only a matter of time until I give one of my professors a seizure from all the rgb spamming on my Alienware laptop boot up

Razers are notorious for getting their batteries bloated and many claim the lack of heat-isolation works in this regards. there are some +90 temps with 21 degress ambient. 3:40 this is especially ironic when I asked Lenovo why my YOGA 9i (GTX 1650 Ti) cannot charge via USB-C despite it supports PD, and they told me 100W is not enough to power it. Perhaps I need a 3080 in my laptop too🤔

    1 hour or so more of battery
    No g-sync on the 14
    No thunderbolt on the 14

      You can always get a warranty for it in case something does happen (I'd personally suggest this route for nearly any brand as quality control is all over the place, to be honest). I've had my 3070 Blade 14 for about 2 and a half months now and it's been excellent aside from some weird initial setup issues and some games making the chassis warm.
