@@JarrodsTech thanks. Been looking forward to Acer laptops since it's what's easily available in my country that isn't overpriced. Still though, I agree with Acer being slow on stuff. The 4080 Helios 18 only recently popped up on Best Buy like three or four days ago
Thank you for clearing up the 140w claims from razer. Honestly that alone is enough for me to not want to give them my business. You can get the Asus G14 with a 4080 for less money and it performs alot better. I think Asus has finally got their act together this time around and the G14 is just the small laptop to beat. I hope they follow the others and give us two ram slots so we can upgrade as we please. Atleast it comes with 16gb soldered this time around so you can get to 32gb.
G14 4080 doesn’t perform a lot better… only if you leave it on Turbo all the time but it’s sooo much louder and hotter then. G14 is really weak on silent and performance after 5 minutes (they have a stronger performance in the first minutes to perform at benchmarks, see Hardware Canucks for reference). I saw the same and sold the G14. Razer Blade 14 has more wattage headroom for the GPU, that’s why it’s even great on silent playing games. The 140w is more like it could do that and that’s why it’s so great and cool at 100w, on all modes.
The 4070 in the Razer Blade 14 makes a lot of sense and it’s appealing. Though I do question the efficiency in the video regarding the 780m and the 4070. The 780m does not need 65 watts to run the Witcher 3 at 1080p 30fps let alone a lot games doesn’t need that much wattage at 1080p. It can do that around 35-40 watts according to users with handhelds that have the same 780m iGPU. With that information, the 780m should be roughly 90-120mins of battery. Sure, not better than the 4070 but significantly better than the 65 minutes.
I like your reviews a lot man. But honestly, I think you and other reviewers are giving bad advice saying the temperature being super high is not a problem. I just had to send a Scar back because after playing for 10 days with it, a solder cracked and it started to become super unstable. Truth is, Asus is allowing their procs to go beyond 100c (when it says 100 its because it can't measure more than that) without thermal throttle and that's just so people can see good numbers when benchmarking. If anyone buys a Asus laptop, just downgrade the max TDP for the proc using throttlestop, trust me.
If u really wanna spend a ton more for some better build quality then maybe this is better but if u don't then G14 is better value for money, especially on sales.
I just want hoping that the Blade 14 had 2 M.2 slots like the Blade 16 with limited single sided chip only. It turns out, impossible over space limitation, unless redesign the Blade 14, just like how ASUS managed the Rog M16 & G16 with 3 blade fan & RAM Upgrades. Looks like I will have a next year version for improved design, upgradibility & software features.
This is what was supposed to happen with this year's AMD higher end parts, where smaller form factors will perform very well. It's amazing to see some of these 2K results now. If next year's Zen 5 laptop CPUs end up on TSMC N3 it's going to be REALLY impressive. If they're stuck on TSMC N4, not as much but there should still be decent uplift, just don't know if the power budget will be much different.
AMD could have put a desktop R7 7800X3D equivalent in a laptop. That will be a win for mobile market. R9 7945HX3D for mobile is basically a repackaged R9 7950X3D .

Awesome improvements. Here are my nitpicks: contrast is abysmal which would only get worse at 500 nits, needs next gen IPS Black. A 4080 Ti that scales with a cooling pad would be bussin. On battery and when traveling it would perform similarly to a 4070 but when docked it would unlock the full potential of the GPU. A huge way to attract more customers would have the option of replacing the Razer logo with one custom CNCed for a $100 premium. ISA optimization/CPU efficiency gains would also be nice to extend battery 🔋 The upgradablity and 16:10 are sweetness. These laptops are becoming more compelling with each generation. They’re directly improving on the previous with no obvious regression which is nigh unheard of with tech companies. While I could afford this laptop, I won’t buy any until they improve the contrast. I prefer IPS until microLED in 7+ years. IPS Black isn’t fast enough, improving it should be the #1 priority of conventional display makers. For now I’m content with my aging XPS 15 (1050ti). My next laptop should functionally serve as a complete desktop replacement with a docking station to enhance cooling and enable screens & peripherals to remain connected to a hub for easy reconnection en masse.
Why has no one made a video on the ASUS strix G17 Ryzen9 7945HX 4070 version? I seen all these other laptops with 4070 reviews. Am I missing something? Did I make a mistake buying one and it’s so bad people don’t review it?
Out of topic question, but can you do a review on the IETS GT500 cooling pad? Just recently bought it on a whim, but I heard it cools temperatures down by 15-20c lesser because of its sealed foam design, unlike something like the KLIM ultimate or the Massive 20 rgb cooling pad which doesnt have a closed seal. Is this legit or just overhyped?
I own a razerblade stealth 13 (late 2020) model and had my battery bloat swell twice. (Original battery bloated 1 year after use. 2nd replaced battery bloated after another 1 year) Is this common for gaming laptops? I clean my fans every 6 months or so. Play Genshin, Overwatch at times. And mostly use for coding school works. And also am wondering what could be the cause or possible preventions.
Hey Jarrod, thanks for the review! Got a quick question, which model do you prefer? The blade 17 from 2022 with a rtx 3080 ti and 32 gb ram or this model?
It helps so so much to receive numbers while both plugged and unplugged. Who wants a 14" laptop that needs to be plugged in to get any type of decent performance? Well, someone who's taking the thing to work and using on a desk everyday, and who values the portability of a 14" laptop. With that said, it's still sort of a shame that Razer doesn't allow the user the ability to run at higher clocks in favor of less battery. It's like, yeah, we're smart enough to change the power setting and smart enough to know when we are at the max performance profile on battery, the battery will not last more than a couple hours. So please, Razer, just give us that control.
Jarrod, in my experience Mercury doesn’t show other dirt easier, it’s extremely close to the surface of MacBook. Even scratches are less visible. Source: Extensive use of Mercury and Black of Razer Blade.
As expected I thought the best combination of CPU/GPU of 2023 for a laptop is the Ryzen 7940HS and the RTX4070. Good performance and insane battery life. Now if only I could get this combination in a 15-16in laptop that has a number pad. I would love to be able to buy a Lenovo Legion Laptop with theses specs.
Just got an OMEN 16 with the 7940HS and RTX 4070. It doesn't have a numpad, but battery life is really good, and it runs very cool being a 16" laptop with efficient chips.
I'm on a Razer 17 pro right now, and it will be the last Razer I ever get until they re-do the keyboard. The arrow keys are impossible to work with. They up/down keys do not detect presses unless you really smash down on them several times. Yes, it's clean.
My dilemma is that I can get a used oled blade stealth with a 3090 as an egpu. As per Jarrod's testing in Red Dead at 2k it is only 2 fps down. It would be even more mobile and I would probably save close to $1500..
Most people don't go into the bios to do things, most people just want it to play games and do other things so all these benchmarks have no bearing for an average individual. So, bottom line is it worth the price for gaming and portability?
The problem with razer laptops is they all get a bulging battery after a few years.... I've owned 2 (a pro 15 and a 13 stealth) and both have come down with the same condition, so if you buy a razer BUY the extended warranty / geek squad warranty for no hassle repair when this DOES happen to yours battery under trackpad bulges and trackpad physicl click no longer works. have to switch to tap to click for trackpad functionality
Isn't this what the whole 4060/4070 series was designed for to begin with? Powerefficient so smaller and thinner laptops could benefit the most. I really don't understand why anyone would want a hulking gaming tank when it doesn't offer that much more performance with these lower tier gpus. The Slim 7s, Blades G14/M16/G16/X13/X16's are much more attractive from a packaging point of view: less weight, less plasticky and better screens and sound. And pretty affordable as well if you stick to the lower SKU's. - Also, don't buy this class of machines for more than 2000€. Wait for a deal or go Asus/Levono for a better value.
love the detailed review, are you planning to review the new Asus TUF A15 2023? A side note, battery life in laptop is really important (for me at least), it would be awesome if you can do a productivity test on your reviews. thanks.
First thank you for your video's, Second I purchased this laptop but when i use the usbc both use the amd card. How did you get the left to connect to Nvidia? Thanks in advance .
but 4070 is STILL only 8gb vram, I just can't get my head past that. So many machines only offer 2k/QHD/1440p this year, it's so frustrating and in such a small laptop screen like this. FHD+/1920*1200 would just be sooo much better for this size VRAM
Jarrod, thanks for the detailed review; I found all your content extremely helpful when deciding between a Razer 14 or 16 or an Asus ROG Flow X16. I settled on the Razer 14 based on my needs (not playing heavy-duty games, wanted portability). You mention in this review that the left-hand USB4 is connected to the dGPU, but I’m still seeing the iGPU from that port. Can you confirm/let me know if this is user error?
@JarrodsTech is the left USB-C not suppose to show up as connected to the 4070? When going to the Nvidia control panel, the left USB-C to DP connection I have is showing as going through the Radeon for some reason? Performed driver updates and factory reset but no change on that control panel telling me I’m running through Radeon. Only HDMI is showing as running the 4070.
Hi Jarrod!, I have a constructive (hope so) critic to (perhaps) make things more intuitive and better. Do you know when show graphs about temperatures, wattage, etc under different modes? (performance, balanced, powersaver...). Looking at this video, and with the bars in green for the gpu and blue for the cpu, I've thinked for a moment you were talking about an Intel processor, but I realized you introduced the laptop telling us clearly it is powered by Amd. Somehow, I've the color pretty related with their companies (you know, green to nvidia, red to amd, blue to intel), and I easily make the mistake to think intuitively you was talking about an Intel processor. Would you say it could be more intuitive for the viewer change the color of the bars depending of the company it manufactures? Of course, if a laptop haves Amd cpu and Amd dedicated gpu, that would be a problem for that color code, maybe pure red and darker red would work (old ATI red is different red than AMD one?). Besides, I realize you use red color to mark some results when talking about some comparison (beside mark the background). So.. yellow to remark comparisons commented in video?. I don't know and of course it is entirely up to you, just leave you the comment/idea, because I discovered myself a twice or more times saying to myself, the cpu bar is blue, but the processor Jarrod is talking about is a model by Amd.
Hi Jarrod. Your reviews are simply the best. I have a new 4070 laptop and tried to compare the results in puget for adobe premiere and I am getting considerably lower results than the ones shown on the video. Do you set any particular parameters to run the tests? I just want to double check as I had I feeling my laptop is not performing as it should. I have a 13th i9-13980HX, 16GB (1x16GB) 4800MHz and the NVIDIA RTX 4070. I feel these specs should match or exceed the results compared to the 4070 laptops you have tested.
While I like the thermals, at 1.8kg, this is creeping up on some of the lighter 15/16" class gaming laptops, which is chipping away at the point of having a 15" gaming laptop.
I have a 3060 laptop and a 3080 desktop. No plans to upgrade until at least 5,000 as the cost of pc gaming has gotten stupid. I do think I'll likely not replace the desktop though and just get a 5,000 or 6,000 laptop further down the line (and happily AMD if they can catch up).
Hey Jarrod can you please make a review on HP Omen 16 4070... ryzen 7 and ryzen 9 both. I'm sceptical since you had bad reviews for the 4070 and in this particular laptop HP claims that it gives you the best ROI. Btw love and appreciate all your efforts and videos. I noticed the ryzen 7 and ryzen 9 extracts the best performance from the 4070
Thanks for the great review. Do you know if any of the USB 4.0 ports connects to dGPU directly with or without Optimus on the 2024 model. Razer website makes it sound like both USB 4.0 support DP 1.4 through iGPU on the 2024 model.
I even undervolt the 4080 on my gp68hx A small performance drop allows more rooms for cpu power and cooling when gaming on balanced mode which has much quieter fan noise
Absolutly not. As you are aware a 4070 laptop gpu hits 0.925 V volt. limit at ca. 110 W and performance plateaus. This year's blade 14 is much bigger, thicker, and heavier in order to accomadate that 140 W TGP which can never be reached. And as you can tell that, sadly, due to the memory slots the motherboard is not big enough to fit a 4080 gpu. 2023 Blade 14 is just a designing disaster, but I guess we should blame at Jensen Huang for that.
Expensive, but impressive. I wish they'd offer a version with 1080p though, as those 8gb VRAM buffer aren't very future proof for that native QHD+ resolution, especially at that price point. Next year maybe.
'hit a voltage limit around 90 to 100 watts' ? Er, aren't voltages a constant in this case? The 'limit' is a factor of power, i.e., watts/current draw. No?
Hey, incase you miss my comment on the previous video i would really like to see you review (if its even possible) Axioo Pongo 760, it's a rtx4060 gaming laptop that costs about $1000

I had planned on buying this laptop the first time I went on sale with a 4080. The lack of that GPU option for this model is a big disappointment. I have been completely unimpressed by ASUS laptops in the recent so I have big reservations about switching to the G14 instead, but it’s 2500$, and will probably sell for less than $2k by Black Friday or Christmas, and that’s usually what I’m comfortable spending on a laptop. I was gonna stretch my budget for the blade 14, but not if I can’t even get 12gb of Vram.
I'm on my second 4080 G14. First one owned for one month before dead pixels started showing up. Returned it for a new one. Now the second one is having the same issue. Impressive machine in such a small package but I'm just not having any luck with them. Which is why I'm about to return the second one. Am considering the Razer but yeah I'm unimpressed with their GPU offerings for the 14 inch.
I just bought one of these blade 14s and noticed that i’m not getting even close to the battery life you got. 8 hours?! I’m barely getting 2 hours at best with just web browsing and that’s after putting it on best power efficiency, and switching it to 60hz. i’m starting to think it’s a battery problem??
I’m getting the same. What are we doing wrong? I’ve tried everything, the only way I get more battery life is if I enable battery saver mode all the time. I get about 5-6 hours like that. How are people getting 8 hours of battery life without battery saver mode on?
That's good but not even close to what a 4070 laptop can achieve. I have the ROG Flow 16 2023 and I'm achieving for example 121fps at high settings with no DLSS/fg/AMD super resolution 1080p and 126fps oc/ed. Yeah it's a 16" chassis and most importantly an Intel 13900H CPU but its dimensions are extremely thin for a 2in1 laptop with 16" and its cooling system superb. Putting it in tent mode or L mode let's the airflow do its job much better with great temps while gaming and amazing noise levels. If I was to go smaller I'd definitely have gone ROG Flow 13 which is top notch as well. Wonderful series

Hmm I think I'll keep my 2022 blade 14 3070 ti. The fps difference isn't at the point i would really notice I think.
I have a question, is it possible to run the entire PC on the Nvidia card, like for the office, web pages etc.?
The Slim 7 AMD is out! Please review it. I want to buy that before University starts in October..😢
@@fleurdewin7958 they can't without running into power issues... laptops have limited power available not to mention they can't have too many vrms as well.
Thanks for the review. How hot does it get under the laptop? Too hot for your lap?
A 16" laptop with same specs, full keyboard and same build quality for similar price would be an awesome machine.
ISA optimization/CPU efficiency gains would also be nice to extend battery 🔋
The upgradablity and 16:10 are sweetness.
I bought a Gigabyte 15 BSF with 4070 for 1390€. With 200€ for a second SSD and 64gb of ram is basically a monster for just 1590€
I’m thinking of getting a Blade 14, but I’m scared for the bloating battery stories :/
Very helpful, just wish it were cheaper. How does it compare to the Triton 14 with the 4070? Curious how the 16gb in that fairs.
Is triton 14 even out. I don't see it anywhere
Yeah best buy has it@@RandomUser-tj3mg
Who's better in terms of temps and battery life i7 (12700h or 13700h)?
Haven't had the chance to fairly compare them, but it doesn't matter, it's not something I'd spend any time being concerned about.
2nd replaced battery bloated after another 1 year)
Is this common for gaming laptops? I clean my fans every 6 months or so. Play Genshin, Overwatch at times. And mostly use for coding school works.
And also am wondering what could be the cause or possible preventions.
Razer was known to have battery bloat issues on older models. It doesn't seem to be as common (I rarely see people mention it) anymore.
100°c !? Will this high temperature affect battery or other components in the long term?? This is really hot man.
The m16 is still my preference
Why are you comparing a 16 inch 2,2 Kg laptop with a 14 inch 1,8 Kg ? Apples and oranges...
Try Asus vivobook 16 pro oled 2023 model with 105w 4070. Battery life is not that great though. Available around 1800 💵
@@braveheart4388 Thanks for the suggestion. If battery life isn't good, I'm not interested.
Battery health optimizer addition is great! I really liked Razer Blade laptops until the battery bloats.
Most people don't go into the bios to do things, most people just want it to play games and do other things so all these benchmarks have no bearing for an average individual. So, bottom line is it worth the price for gaming and portability?
This would be perfect with a GPU that has 12-16gb's of VRAM. If they can offer us a 4080-4090 the Blade 14 could hit 140 watts on the GPU.
The problem with razer laptops is they all get a bulging battery after a few years.... I've owned 2 (a pro 15 and a 13 stealth) and both have come down with the same condition, so if you buy a razer BUY the extended warranty / geek squad warranty for no hassle repair when this DOES happen to yours
battery under trackpad bulges and trackpad physicl click no longer works. have to switch to tap to click for trackpad functionality
Also, don't buy this class of machines for more than 2000€.
Love seeing people say how interesting the video was 2 minutes after the upload time lmao

If thinking about this 14" Blade or the 15" or 16" inch version, which one would you choose and why? Help me out!
100°C during stress test in almost every mode is disgusting. Still not even looking at Blade.
I can't wait for the AZERTY version of this laptop, I got myself the blade 14 (2021) and it was the beginning of a love story xD
but 4070 is STILL only 8gb vram, I just can't get my head past that.
In our testing it connected to the dgpu when Optimus was off. When Optimus was on we didn't get any output at all.
Can't believe the BIOS looks so old for higher prices than MSI
Would it be worth it to upgrade from a 6700s g14 to this, since I might need an Nvidia gpu for school?
I run it with Optimus on at the highest setting level for the laptop. Also check that you're using version 0.98 of the Puget benchmark.
Awesome, thanks for answering 🙏
I'm still waiting for the Stealth 17M to be updated.
While I like the thermals, at 1.8kg, this is creeping up on some of the lighter 15/16" class gaming laptops, which is chipping away at the point of having a 15" gaming laptop.
It’s really handy though, nicer to grab
@@tinybit780 it's crminally expensive and heavy for a 14" machine with 4070.
I’m still rocking 3060, just gonna wait for the 5000 series.
Yeah makes sense

Do you know if any of the USB 4.0 ports connects to dGPU directly with or without Optimus on the 2024 model. Razer website makes it sound like both USB 4.0 support DP 1.4 through iGPU on the 2024 model.
I even undervolt the 4080 on my gp68hx
A small performance drop allows more rooms for cpu power and cooling when gaming on balanced mode which has much quieter fan noise
So many gaming laptops, which one has the best gaming performance and display tho?
Absolutly not. As you are aware a 4070 laptop gpu hits 0.925 V volt. limit at ca. 110 W and performance plateaus. This year's blade 14 is much bigger, thicker, and heavier in order to accomadate that 140 W TGP which can never be reached. And as you can tell that, sadly, due to the memory slots the motherboard is not big enough to fit a 4080 gpu. 2023 Blade 14 is just a designing disaster, but I guess we should blame at Jensen Huang for that.
*Correction: 140 W TGP achievable only in Furmark stress test at low clock speed.
You picked the wiredest product trying to explain the energy efficiency of an RTX 4070 laptop gpu. How unprofessional

Why isn't the asus zephyrus g14 2022 on the list of battrey life with the others, is not considered a good laptop anymore?
You can see how we test battery life here: jarrods.tech/list-of-laptop-battery-life/
I’m getting the same. What are we doing wrong? I’ve tried everything, the only way I get more battery life is if I enable battery saver mode all the time. I get about 5-6 hours like that. How are people getting 8 hours of battery life without battery saver mode on?
Comparison of the Razer Blade 14 vs Asus ROG Zephyrus G14?
Great, now I've to sell a kidney for that laptop :(
