  • Zinc is needed for healthy skin, a robust immune system, sharp vision, stable blood sugar control, balanced and strong hormonal health, and far more. It’s even needed for protection against the heavy metals that pollute our environment.
    Here’s how to make sure you’re getting enough -- but not too much! -- from managing your diet, to non-dietary causes of deficiency, to measuring and managing your zinc status with bloodwork.

    I track all that I eat. The hardest part is to keep the zinc and copper in balance. I have to supplement with zinc often, depending upon food that given day.

    Thanks for the great info Chris. If both my zinc and copper levels are below optimal, what dosage of each should I use to raise both simultaneously? Zinc plasma = 85; Copper = 92 mcg/dL

    Regarding diet, zinc/minerals in food - I found that individuals that have no underlying health issues, that are healthy - it doesn't really matter what they eat (as long as it's healthy foods), if they eat animal products or not - their body just sucks up everything it needs from whatever foods it's given.
    When you start talking health problems, malabsorption, heavy metal toxicity, etc - that's when it STILL doesn't matter what you eat. In the sense that, you can eat the best diet - but your body will STILL struggle to absorb what it needs.
    It's my observation.

    Hey Chris, thanks for the video! I checked the nutrients in my diet and a couple of things really stood out that seem to be correlated with my symptoms. What do you think about using a multivitamin to tackle zinc, thiamine and molybdenium? Can't afford or tolerate other options (food, supps).
    Strength and Love,
    Thomas

    Incredible content, thanks! Zinc supplementing results in higher libido and more confidence / masculine feeling. It is a known testosteron increaser and I feel it's effects. Supplementing without copper gives me soft and flexible nails - with copper 1:15 I get very strong nails.

      How you take zinc and copper? In one supplement like zinc balance from jarrow? To me it doesn't make sense, because zinc will inhibit copper absorption in the small intestine..

      I get exactly the same response... zinc therapy makes me feel calm, confident and motivated. In a more recent video, Chris said that zinc allows testosterone to activate cell dna, which means it can boost the effect of testosterone without even raising blood levels of the hormone.

    This may sound wacky to some but it works. I do pendulum dowsing and I test my zinc levels on a chart of 0 through 10. If I get an infection my zinc level Falls precipitously. So I keep by zinc status High buy dowsing this way. I use standard process zinc supplements and selenium also. If I have an infection like a virus take c h e z y n and zinc liver chelate from standard process. I also take a couple of 200 microgram selenium pills with it. And by the end of a couple of days the infection is gone. I then break back to a normal thing and selenium level. When u have a serious infection, 20 mills won't cut it.

    Could someone be zinc deficient without being deficient in other nutrients? As per phytates, these are in principle reduced with proper soaking/fermentation/sprouting.

    • @chrismasterjohn
      @chrismasterjohn  5 лет назад +4

      They are reduced but not eliminated. Yes you can be deficient in zinc but not other nutrients.

    I'm not sure which of these two is the main cause for my health problems (including mineral deficiencies), MTHFR mutation or heavy metal toxicity (mercury, aluminum, probably from vaccines since I don't even have amalgams).
    Because one might think "of course it's the genes that are to blame", but if it wasn't for the exposure to heavy metals, I think I would've still been a healthy individual.

    I am very interested in learning more about the connection between methylation and zinc level. I have consistently get low zinc level I eat lots of red meat and livers and supplement zinc twice or thrice per week. My level was 66 a year ago and now it's 47. where can I find more on the link between the two and what to do about it?

    I eat a primarily plant based diet, and have done for the past two years, especially in the past 12 months. I consume a high amount of legumes (I am aware of the benefit on absorption of onion/garlic with zinc/iron by the way).
    After a bout of gastritis, my digestion has never fully settled, and for the past 4-5 months I have have chronic loose stool (with occasional bouts of "perfect" stool), that I haven't been able to tie down to gluten, or any other food intolerances.
    I strongly suspect that I had lowish zinc prior to the gastritis, and the diarrhoea it gave me made me deficient. I don't seem to have any other onviously symptoms, but do you think it's reasonable to suppose that a zinc deficiency can cause loose stool (not diarrhoea)?
    I don't have excess gas, or bloating (very occasionally, but not commonly) or abdominal pains.
    I realise it could be many things, but I'm wondering if you think a zinc deficiency is a reasonable proposition in such a case?

    • @chrismasterjohn
      @chrismasterjohn  5 лет назад

      I don't know if zinc deficiency can cause loose stool, but diarrhea causes zinc deficiency and a primarily plant-based diet would make you vulnerable.

      @@chrismasterjohn I'll give some moderate zinc supplementation a shot.
      My GI system has yet to fully recover from a listeria induced gastritis infection (the same bad batch of food gave it to Mee months after the first infection lol - I was able to pin it down after it happened for a second time). The first infection I recovered fine after gastritis for a week or two, but after the second infection, my digestion has yet to recover, 4 - 5 months later.
      Thanks for your response.
