The big thing about Eevee and friendship is if you're only EXP share training, you're not getting the friendship increase from using it in battle and also not using items on it since it's not getting damaged.
I always thought those were things too, but you don't actually get a boost to friendship by using the Pokemon in battle OR using regular items. The only items that boost happiness, as far as I can see online, is the vitamins.
Because of this video, I went and did a new playthrough with Chikorita as my starter. I named it Challenger. Arguably the most fun I've had in a playthrough so far.
"Chikorita fans, all six of them" Chikorita was my first Pokemon, and it is still my favourite of all starters. I do wish people would stop throwing shade at my baby.
I think you may have answered your own question around why the Ice Path bit was in the sealed section. Basically, it was because they knew a lot of people might have had difficulty with it, and since you couldn't just flick to the page and see the answer in the store without buying it (since standing there unsealing it would make it more likely you'd be caught and forced to purchase it anyway), it would encourage more people to just give in and fork over the cash for the guide
Mareep: I’m an electric type 3 stage evolution Pokémon that in future games has a mega evolution and having me on your your team will really help with the game! Me: ok. Wooloo: *exists* Me: TAKE MY MONEY!!!!
14:40: Me! I thought I was just under-leveled, didn't realize I had other stuff to go do before I battled that. I ended up grinding my Pokemon up a lot to match his levels. Needless to say, I was over-leveled for a bit, but eventually I wasn't because of Gen 2's awful level curve.
okay, I get the dunks on chikorita so here is something that most people don't know if they never used chikorita. 1 chikorita's move set is the most stable move sets having poison powder, reflect razor leaf, and synthesis around the time that they evolve. Having Reflect before Falkner basically removes the flying weakness and it's a very bulky pokemon and can take out the pigotto with it. Also, get a geodude as people tend to do. chikorita and some sort of fire-type pokemon and you can easily beat the game. Also love how they say to grab a marrep good luck with that in crystal no sheep there.
I remember a Majora's Mask guide a friend had having a sealed section at the back, and that was to keep you from seeing what happens at the end before you actually get there, since it IS pretty crazy. So it was a soft spoiler warning. In this case, maybe they thought it was cool, but didn't really have a plan for what to put in it.
The John Guy needs to watch his best friend Mikey’s video “giving each gym leader a new signature Pokémon”. He points out every time the weird Morty thing happens.

Chikorita, I would argue, is the best option for the main difficulty curves in Gen 2. Whitney's Miltank? Resists Rollout which, Cyndaquil is weak against and has its own self-healing (synthesis) which can easily counter milk drinks. Setting up poison makes widdling her down very easy with natural bulk which neither other starters really has. Clair's Kingdra? Stab is neutral unlike the others and again, the natural bulk makes taking the hits much easier. I would rather have solid counters for these challenges than getting blocked and forced to over-level to overcome them with either Cyndaquil or Totodile

I didn't follow the guide exactly, just to catch all of the pokemon in every area. I remember that I caught or evolved every single pokemon that was available in the game without trading.

At 9:00 about the baby pokemon, they're very obviously just trying to keep some of the baby pokemon a surprise so that you aren't spoiled on what all of them look like so you actually have a chance to discover them...
My best run of crystal I had a starter in the forties and my other Pokémon were in the late thirties by the time I battled the seventh gym. Sadly my battery died.
Interesting, considering my first starter in the Johto Region was Chikorita and I CRUSHED the gyms with it... so yeah... makes me wonder about what kinda moves everyone else used to think that Chikorita was the hardest one to use for the game... and I played Pkmn Gold and Silver right off the first gen games of Red ,Blue & Yellow as I have played all but 1 of the gen. games in order of release.
I never knew there was a way to switch off the cameras in the rocket hideout. Actually I never knew they were cameras. This guide has quite big improvements from the previous one.
I ran into that tough rival battle in the remakes. Croconaw was ~6 levels over my head, but when I switched in Bellsprout, all it did was use Scary Face 6 times, missing 4, and slowly die to Vine Whip. It had Bite!
All the odd references like hammer away are from the first Nintened video I recommend the first one to watch and maybe react to... also shout out to Eric (you’ll understand if you watch it)
The "seal secrets" was for us kids that would go to book stores and just rush through books before we had to leave with our parents , it was a way to beat the skimmers
My first pokemon game was Gold. My cousin gifted it to me when I was around 8 or 9 after he beat it and filled the entire dex and I loved it...until my brother got a hold of it and deleted all his hard work. A neighbor boy then stole it and the game boy it was in later that summer and I never saw it again. He (my brother) told the story to a friend and, not long afterwards, I had pokemon Yellow. Didn't make up for what he did, but now I have his favorite Mewto on pokemon Stadium 2.
I think the sealed pages are likely meant to be like uncut books back in the day. Uncut books were books where some of the pages were stuck together to show it was unread because the idea of them where you would have to cut the pages open as you read the book. Uncut books were worth more and a collectors item so it probably something like that
The shiny pokemon thing really hit home, i had the same issue with the pokemon emerald guide and it gave me the probability and i kept playing until i got a shiny poochyena took me about 3 weeks of resets in the same patch of grass outside of the rusturf tunnel
strange, my experience with gen 1 and 2 games were: me lose first try at first gym, me thinking: 'let me level up my team until it gets frustrating'... so i'd end up going into bugsy with pokemon in the high thirties, into marty with my team in the 50s with one or two in the low 60s, and the league with my team in the high 70s/low 80s. same comparative for gen 1 games. it wasn't until much later gens (i think roughly gen 5) that i finally gave entering gyms with a 'non-OP' team another try, using type-matchups and such.
The sealed section of the guide book is so makes the guide books more interesting and element of mystery n fun. Makes the the game more too. Although books not interesting so I guess trying to make books more fun
Okay so Chikorita is my favorite of the three Johto starters and lets be real here... you dont actually struggle using it because duh you can catch other pokemon to cover its short comings, I always had Flaffy or Geodude for the first gym (though I only ever played Soul Silver for Jotho)
I think he uses the term Hammer away because i think in his Red/Blue playtrough like stated on the Celadon city fight with Giovanni the guide said. While he is quite high just use special attackers and hammer away and continue or something.
Chikorita is the cutest of the Gen 2 starters but my favorite and one I mainly use is Totodile. Also before the First Gym I get my starter to about 15 or 16 the rest to about 12. As for Whitney I just nuked her Miltank with my starter being at least lvl 30 and the rest of my team at least lvl 22.
In my first playthrough of silver version I relied on Typhlosion so much that it was lv 72 when I got to the elite 4 and everyone else on my team was mid to high 30s.

I played through gold and crystal and I had very different teams. I never had any trouble in any battle except I lost to lance because I forgot to heal 😁. Also, I caught all kanto legendary birds with only regular poke balls.
The johto elite 4 was easy for me. All you need is a solid team of 6 Pokémon close to lv 40 (my highest going in was lv 40 because Umbreon is a PAIN to get) Lance was the biggest challenge but that’s really it
I'm more use to heart gold and soul silver, mainly because of the graphics, but also because you can get a free mareep in an egg in violet city, so you basically had ampharos at that time. However in gold and silver, that's not a luxury that you have.
i didn't play Gold/Silver til later my first Johto experience was the remakes Heartgold/Soulsilver and i had Cyndaquil as my starter reaching Azalea town i actually did trigger that rival battle before fighting Bugsy
I gave my eevee vitamins and a haircut and grinded it up to level 52 before it finally evolved into espeon (my favorite pokemon) so it never learned psychic but at least it got morning sun when it evolved xD

My gold battery died too soo long ago I was so mad because My Pokémon was max level I used it only for trades to silver after that point
The rival battle after the second gym was no problem because I had a level 37 typhlosion
Jesus.
@@romanxfire5thepokemondude457 that’s Pokémon for you
I wonder if he named it Eric after the guy who passed away that did the FireRed/LeafGreen strategy guide
The johto elite 4 was easy for me. All you need is a solid team of 6 Pokémon close to lv 40 (my highest going in was lv 40 because Umbreon is a PAIN to get)
Lance was the biggest challenge but that’s really it
I'm more use to heart gold and soul silver, mainly because of the graphics, but also because you can get a free mareep in an egg in violet city, so you basically had ampharos at that time.
00:36:27 In Emerald, the last Gym and the League Champion are both Water type.
