maybe "laying down the law" on erika is a reference to gym leaders being a part of team rocket. It mentions it specifically directly after you defeat the evil team leader, Giovanni.
They don't let you into Silph Co. until you've gotten the Poké Flute. I used to think you actually had to set foot in Fuchsia City but apparently you just need the Poké Flute. Also, the TMs from the girl were Ice Beam, Rock Slide, and Tri Attack in RBY, which is probably where the guide's confusion comes from.
19:37 I know this is a year old but I’m 99% sure you get Ice Beam, Rock Slide and… Double Edge? I think? From the vendor machine girl in the original Red and Blue games
I personally used guides to learn a route layout, where to get a Pokemon, how evolve a Pokemon, where to get a specific item, and what Pokemon can learn what and when or how. I never used them for Gyms or anything like that because a basic understanding of type match ups obviously make that inferior. If anything I might of looked at a Gym leader's ace just to get an idea what level Id need to be
I can confirm that here in Spain, the "official Nintendo Acción guide" for Pokemon Red and Blue did sugest to catch a digglet before facing Lt. Surge, recommended for an easy battle against Brock using grass or water moves and to check the north route prior to facing Misty if you didn't have enough level. It also recommended to get the Body Slam tm in the SS Anne and teach it to a powerful attacking pokemon, and mentioning Raichu as a good candidate, or to save it for Snorlax, as another good candidate for the tm.. IIRC, it missed telling the players to catch a nidoran if your starter was Charmander, so you could use Double Kick against Brock, though. And they didn't know what Focus Energy did, or was suposed to do, because they didn't mention it was bugged, and all they said was that it could take down a pokemon instantly (a bit like a OHKO move) if used constantly. Of course, it never worked like that, as it was suposed to raise the crit rate and it didn't even do that, so eventually my friends and I just ignored that bit of information from the guide. edit: Also, as an spaniard, I'm contractually enforced to groan at that Gyaratres joke. Just saying.
@@robertlupa8273 My bad, it has been more than 20 years since I played and I remembered that it learned it, but I had to have mixed it with Yellow, then, if I remember nidoran being useful against Brock.
Poison, Fire, Rock, is a fine suggestion for the gym. Rock resists poison, poison can't get the poisoned status and Fire is super effective against bug and grass, which are common types that are given to poison types. They should probably have suggested Psychic, however, what they said is ok.
Rock is also super effective against bug and typically has ground coverage, as well, which is super effective against poison (except Koffing, Weezing, and fliers, but rocks handle the latter group)
"When I was a kid I actually never lost a battle. I would always reset my game if I lost." I still do this. I have lost so many hours in so many different and much harder games...

Can’t wait to be in heaven with Eric and “hammer away” at our conversations about his guidebooks Seriously, it is so tragic that he died, I wish any condolences to his family.
2:24 Man, I feel this so hard. I remember playing the original Kingdom Hearts as a kid. I got up to the third Riku boss fight where you had to face him alone in Hollow Bastion. For the life of me, I could not beat him. Threw myself at that asshole for a solid hour with no luck. Didn't touch the game for over a year after that.
One thing about the nidoqueen being weak to electric. Remember the guy in the anime who said 'all my pokemons are water type' despite having a nidoqueen. I think that's the cause of this
@25:05 The only road block at Silph Co. is Lavender Tower, which is road blocked by the Rocket Hideout. You can do all of these events before fighting Lt. Surge!!

I know this is a year old but I’m 99% sure you get Ice Beam, Rock Slide and… Double Edge?
If anything I might of looked at a Gym leader's ace just to get an idea what level Id need to be
Lol i never took pokemon seriously
I always like how you ask permission to do reactions. You may say yeah, of course I do, but the thing is not everybody does it. A big thumbs up here!
RIP to the homie Eric. We’re gonna keep laying down the law for you 😭
Lordb8er?
Nidoran doesn't learn Double Kick until the 40s in Red/Blue. It only learns it early in Yellow.

I seem to recall having trouble with Koga the first time I played Yellow, and then grinding up my charizard and crushing him.
"When I was a kid I actually never lost a battle. I would always reset my game if I lost." I still do this. I have lost so many hours in so many different and much harder games...
Me, too, I still do this. I don't like losing money. It's a pain in the ass to get it back sometimes, so if I lose, I just reset. It's just way easier altogether.
Don't play Dark Souls then brother
@@Floatzilla I don't. I tried but it was not my style.

One thing about the nidoqueen being weak to electric. Remember the guy in the anime who said 'all my pokemons are water type' despite having a nidoqueen. I think that's the cause of this

The only road block at Silph Co. is Lavender Tower, which is road blocked by the Rocket Hideout. You can do all of these events before fighting Lt. Surge!!

Funny thing, that magikarp you buy, is the large size the fisherman below Lavender looking for big Magikarp likes.
I’m so glad MandJ reacted to this, now he should write his own guidebook
finally, this is needs more likes
how many of you are there!
If he doesn't have "hammer away" in there at least to honor Eric, then I'm not buying it. Okay, I might still buy it.
This whole video I was thinking “I could probably write better” but then I remembered I’m lazy and so the fact that this book even exists, erroneous as it may be, is better than I could do. So if Mikey makes his own guidebook I will be thoroughly impressed.
I see it now, if he ever writes a guidebook, and there's a guide on moves, every move that isn't 100% accurate is gonna say 50% accurate
