Glad you enjoyed the video so much! I wanted to try to respond to some of the questions/comments: - You're right, the VFX were done with Blender (and a combination of DaVinci Resolve + more PowerPoint than I'm willing to admit) - The Blaine quote is from Pokémon Puzzle League. - Yep, in Gen I enemy trainers can heal (or switch out) after you attack. - I would like to emphasize that I didn't actually sit there for all 4,000 hours worth of battles--it was all orchestrated by a script. Some people seemed concerned for my health and safety 😅 - The "75 turns without taking damage" is more accurately something like, "75 turns without reaching a new minimum total HP" but that doesn't quite roll off the tongue. - I actually got contacted by a recruiter from a data science company from this video. I don't quite understand how "I like to pretend to be a data scientist" inspired much confidence. - Why did some of the Professor Oaks underperform? Honestly, the high ranked trainers are so close in strength that it's mostly noise in the Elo ranking at that point. I'm hoping to come up with a better ranking system for the next tournament... - ....Speaking of which, I'm currently working on the follow-up to this video, where I run the tournament again with all the Pokémon balanced to level 50. Be sure to subscribe if you want to see that! It might be a while, though... Edit: The follow-up video is (almost) out now! Check it out: ruclips.net/video/247qD1qulSQ/видео.html
That will be an interesting video especially considering how terrible many level up move sets are in Gen 1. I expect some trainers to have Pokemon without any attacking moves.
Unfortunately I don't think he'll do that, he says he doesn't want to do more than one reaction to a creator because he thinks that making lots of reactions he "steals" their contet, which is legitimate but unfortunate too...
The whole thing with Loreli is interesting, but I wasn't really surprised at it, because of the soft lock you can do with her due to the Red AI's quirks. If you take a fighting type pokemon into the Elite Four (the example I saw used was Primeape) with the move Rage, and use it on Loreli, you can trigger a literally endless battle. Because Primeape is a fighting type, the Red AI that dictates that Loreli use a move that is super effective against it means that she will spam Rest at every chance. If you use the move Rage on it, the Rage will continue indefinitely, without giving you a chance to change Pokemon or use another move. And since PP is endless on the side of the AI, Loreli can use Rest indefinitely. Pikasprey does videos on this kind of thing that are super interesting!
one interesting observation i was able to make is how the three different rivals develop over the course of the game. early on bulbasaur is the strongest because it has a good learn set early in the game with stuff like leech seed and auto crit razor leaf, but it falls off late game due to the lack of strong poison or grass moves in its learn set. charmander on the other hand lacks behind early to mid game because of how garbage its natural learn set is in gen-1 as, for some reason, they decided to not give NPCs TM-moves outside of gym leaders who get to use the TM they give you when you beat them, so your rival is stuck using moves like ember and rage for most of the game, charizard finally pulls ahead when it learns flamethrower. also here is the reason why blastoise champion couldn't get ahead of charizard champion: gyarados is stronger than blastoise and charizard is stronger than arkanine.
@@Chasereraser5 In Gen 1 the user's Pokémon is locked into "rage" until it faints or the battle ends. Rage only subtracts one PP when chosen, no matter how many turns the move is in effect (as opposed to subtracting one PP for every turn the move is used). Getting hit by an attack while using rage causes the Pokémon's rage to build, increasing it's attack stat by one stage. So typically the unlimited turns once chosen isn't a problem...because the Pokémon would either KO it's opponents and end the battle, be KOd itself and end the rage lock, or it would be dealing massive amounts of boosted damage to it's opponents and the fight would be on its way to ending. The glitch happens because Psychic is super effective to Fighting...so Loreli continues to spam rest (a Psychic move) as opposed to attacking. That heals her Pokémon back to full...while your Pokémon is stuck locked using rage with no attack boost. That means you're never able to do enough damage to KO her Pokémon before she can rest and heal it. With no PP restrictions on how often she can use rest...and your Pokémon stuck in rage...the battle just circles...and circles. Rest, rage, rest, rage, rest, rage... Sorry for the long answer 😂 hope that helps.

Now that I think about it, there actually is a reason that the Oak fight was cut. In the beginning of the game, Oak says something along the lines of "back in the day, I was a skilled Pokemon trainer. Now, I have only these three left." Meaning that there's no way that he had the other 4 pokemon in his battle team unless he went out and started training again.

As far as I can tell, the "effect" you mention is essentially pulling the 2D sprites into 3D software and applying them to various objects and moving it around.
What if you make a video about “What if The Evil Team Admins becomes the leader of the evil team and what will their team look like if they are the evil team leader”??
Trainers can heal after you attack in Gen 1. I don't remember if that's how it worked in GSC, but in Gen 3 onwards, items always had priority over attacks.
The 0 dmg thing finally makes sense. That's why the poison sting from weedle never could poison brocks rock types. It always said they missed and I knew they couldn't miss. And was upset I didn't get a chance to poison him. I tried so often to get poison on his geodude at the start of a battle, if he used defense curl, to sneak some easy XP on my weedle after switching him out, but it NEVER hit the thing. I assumed that it was a bug, or a special ability of Brock to stop you from "cheesing" him with his 2 pokemon. I did not know you could deal less than 1 dmg.
If I had to guess why Oak falls short in every case apart from Blastoise, I would say it's because Blue has very little to counter it with. Blue in all three cases will have a Rhydon, an Alakazam, and an Executor. Oak in all three cases will have an Arcanine, and Executor, a Gyarados, and a Tauros. Meaning that Oak will always have either 2 Fire, 2 Water, or 2 grass types. The most important factor in this (I think) is that all of Oak's Pokémon (no matter what) have terrible movesets, consisting of low accuracy moves, weak recoil moves, Pokémon with only three moves, "Route 1 Moves" like Leer and Tailwhip... BUT... Oak does have a slight level advantage. _i say slight because the gap between levels becomes smaller, the higher you go. lvl 10 vs lvl 15 is equivalent to lvl 75 vs lvl 100._ Oak however, manages to come out on top in the end (probably) because unlike the other instances... Blastoise and Gyarados only share one weakness... Electric... Something Blue doesn't have. Charizard and Arcanine are weak to Water, Venusaur and Executor are both weak to Flying and Fire (thus is comes in last). Blastoise and Gyarados share no such weakness though (that Blue can exploit). And so Blastoise Oak wins solely because it has a better team structure with less shared weaknesses.
Pi Man Rules? Funny story, my high school English teacher was Mr. Pyman. When we played Kahoot as a class, he would always make his name “Pi Man”. Coincidence? I think not!

I think it makes sense in a game standpoint as to why Lorelei got so many draws. As the first elite four member, it would be a benefit if she made the rest of them even more of a challenge by stalling and using up the player's PP, but since in these battles, both Trainers have infinite PP, Lorelei would keep stalling until she's defeated or end the match in a draw.

After the second turn, no matter what, Lorelei's Dewgong will always use Rest. This is even if the Dewgong is at full health.
Omg this is phenomenal! I want more of these! Holy crap
What if you make a video about “What if The Evil Team Admins becomes the leader of the evil team and what will their team look like if they are the evil team leader”??
4:42 "If it's not 100% accurate, it's 50% accurate."
Also does anyone find it ironic that he wasn't using his Raycon earbuds
Now the Pokemon Crystal version of the simulator is out.
And it's awesome. I hope Micky takes a look at it.
Lorelei is really funny, when you realize that her worst loss was to someone stronger than her.
Mikey: I love Raycon
Also Mikey: *Doesnt even wear raycon in the video*
He said a few comments up that his computer doesn't have a Bluetooth adapter.
_i say slight because the gap between levels becomes smaller, the higher you go. lvl 10 vs lvl 15 is equivalent to lvl 75 vs lvl 100._
Oak however, manages to come out on top in the end (probably) because unlike the other instances...
Well, Oak's team has a key flaw. He only has 5. Blue has 6. If Oak had 6 he'd have the top 3 spots.
Pi Man Rules?
Funny story, my high school English teacher was Mr. Pyman. When we played Kahoot as a class, he would always make his name “Pi Man”.
Coincidence? I think not!
Am I the only one who paused the video when Mikey paused to see who are the trainers that use stats boosting and healing modification?
i think blastoise oak out-performed the other oaks because of withdraw. could deal more and take more damage.
Last time I was this early i wasn’t sleep deprived

There used to be so many memes dissing Bulbasaur even though it was easiest to raise had the dual type obliterated the first two gyms and resisted the third
Meanwhile Charmander got so much praise despite being difficult to raise and being useless against the first 2 gyms and only tying at the third
For anyone wondering, Michael's Desktop PC doesn't have Bluetooth, most Desktop PC don't have Bluetooth, and he was reacting the video on PC, but he uses them on his Mobile!

Can I just say that the very first bulbasaur rival 444 elo took down Beauty 10 with 1541 elo
