Helen's childhood sounds a lot like my maternal grandmother except my grandma was an orphan by age 12 and was forced to live with an abusive grandmother who was wealthy but forced my grandma to work as a maid. When my grandma turned 16, she immediately left and never looked back. Ended up working as a medical secretary, met my grandpa, got 5 kids and adopted 5 more as well! She still has a huge heart of gold and I'm lucky to still have her in my life 💖 Love you mamama!

Just watched such an amazing interview with Robert Stack within the last decade of his life. Few things I learned: an actor who was close w many of the great movie stars like Judy Garland. He was Italian. How handsome he was (you can’t see his face so clearly. He had amazing eyes and hair.). This series made me scared of the host. The association with the scary unsolved cases with Robert Stack narrating and asking for the public’s help. He was just such a delight; the complete opposite of frightening. Wish he was still alive. He made this series great RIP Robert Stack
Wonderful story - but I don't get this at all - something seems fishy, we're probably not getting the whole story - you'd think that the airmen, after the war, would look FOR HER, in gratitude, instead of the other way around ? They'd be like falling over each other, trying to find their benefactor - nothing, and she goes looking FOR THEM ?
THE woman Helen featured is probably once in many 100 years an amazing human being that is is a diamond in the rough that you would only find one place at one time in history. An amazing story about her I will never forget this WWII story of her just risking her safety and life for a bunch of foreign soldiers that she could have totally disregarded.

Also for those still doubting the Boston Strangler, sociopaths are a fascinating and incredibly scary creature that seems to spawn from large populations. They can be incredibly charming and the least suspecting person in the world if you let them manipulate you that direction. Wait... I’m confused. With the second story- Helen who helped the American airmen. Was Helen Jewish? She went into a Catholic Church for help. Which I assumed would mean she was Catholic. But then it was revealed Helen was in a Concentration Camp. Were any non Jews taken to become prisoners?
Yes. Their 'cleansing' list included far more people than jews; gay people, black people, foreigners, etc. Anyone who wasn't a Caucasian German who was in Germany at the time was at risk. I assume she went to that church because churches are generally viewed as sanctuaries regardless of the associated religion.
Catholics were a targeted group as well, due to their belief in human life as scared, e.g. no abortion, euthanizing, capital punishment etc. Many priests and also other clergy were put away for that belief, which is incompatible with the eugenics movement the Nazi's espoused. Also, political prisoners of various types like Communists and even apolitical groups, such as Jehovah's witnesses were targeted
The update to the boston strangler has me wondering......i remember watching unsolved mysteries and alberts brother was on the show and mary sullivans sister and marys nephew and they were both saying they didnt think albert did it,so they took dna from alberts brothers ,and got some dna from the last victim mary, and they said it DID NOT MATCH ALBERTS DNA? now this has just said the opposite.???
Heya Joanne, great comment! indeed in the Strangler/Sullivan segment that can be found on the Murders dvd set, nothing linked DeSalvo to Mary's murder. The main theory was that a former boyfriend of Mary's roommate had done it, before leaving town. Personally I thought it was a great lead. That episode was produced in 2002, and the new evidences against DeSalvo came in 2013 - either the tests made before the episode were inconclusive due to the evidences collected at the scene and on Mary's body (which happens on a regular basis), or they were being processed at the time the segment was produced. It's a good question, and it would be great to have a specific timeline as to what was done and when. Worth looking into. 👍

17:10 yeah he is shaking his head which shows he doesn't sincerely mean what he is say ("I do not kill woman.") He even flashes a momentary smile... a sign of Duper's Delight (he takes glee in getting away with his crime).
I can’t 100% say I believe he was the Boston strangle but I will say he’s done way more than the police know about. He’s very narcissistic-when answering questions
The stepmother is a real piece of work. Good for Helen. Also, the doctor in the Boston segment seems a little naive. "He seemed like a nice guy, so for that reason... he was innocent."
DNA evidence proved DeSalvo committed at least one the killings that was linked to the Boston Strangler. It was him. DeSalvo wanted to be somebody and he had ppl like his psychologist fooled the whole time, eagerly paying attention to teh story he was making up.
I still think Desalvo didn't commit the crimes alone. His DNA was not found on all the victims.....Some of these unsolved serial killer murders could have involved more than one person involved.....
The one thing that's pretty scary about serial killing is once the notoriety and MO becomes public and popular knowledge, you can get a slew of copycats.
Imagine calling rape “molestation”. Also, imagine wanting to clear his name because you felt sorry for him. He was obviously a rapist. Obviously escalating.

Also, political prisoners of various types like Communists and even apolitical groups, such as Jehovah's witnesses were targeted
@@xlnuniex Many white Germans were sent to the camps. Anyone on hitler's shit list wound up there.
@@jonathanturbide2232 IT MAY BE ON THE DENNIS FARINA ONE,BUT AT THE END THE GUY THAT DID THE TEST I THINK THIS NAME WAS SOMETHING E STARS...BUT IT SAID IT DIDNT MATCH,SO GOD KNOWS,IF I FIND THE EPISODE I WILL LET YOU NO ; ]
@@joannerutledge1377 Is it James E. Starr? He's one of the best expert, yes please tell me if you find the particular episode I'd love to see it again. 😊👍
@@jonathanturbide2232 I will ; ] .hey can you remember that episode where a black guy raped and nearly beat to death a collage girl with a hammer his name was wadada and one of his hands was like a crab hand, well that one scared me bad as a kid aswell as blind river rest stop murders.
@@joannerutledge1377 Oh yes I remember that Wadada segment very well, so glad the girl survived the attack! Do you know if they caught that dangerous guy?
this music still gives me the shivels
music is on the new series on netflix, new format but cosggrove producing
I remember alot of music for Unsolved Mysteries original series being creepy as fuck. They have the whole soundtrack for series on RUclips now to listen to.
Helen's story is remarkable, truly incredible, and its great to think she survived against all the odds.
Unsolved Mysteries has the best comments section. My kind of people.
17:12 This man is evil look at them soul-less eyes its like he momentarily relived a killing...I have always thought Nassar was the Boston Strangler
Did they ever find the gang that killed Kevin?
The stepmother is a real piece of work. Good for Helen.
Also, the doctor in the Boston segment seems a little naive.
"He seemed like a nice guy, so for that reason... he was innocent."
There is a special place in hell for her stepmother.
35:15 the face of courage. Wow.
Nassar killed him Or had him killed because he was about to tell the Dr who the strangler really was
I believe that. Ironic DeSalvo was murdered one day before he was about to talk?! Come on now...Nassar had something to do with his murder.
DNA evidence proved DeSalvo committed at least one the killings that was linked to the Boston Strangler. It was him. DeSalvo wanted to be somebody and he had ppl like his psychologist fooled the whole time, eagerly paying attention to teh story he was making up.
O BS! Desalvo was guilty AF
I still think Desalvo didn't commit the crimes alone. His DNA was not found on all the victims.....Some of these unsolved serial killer murders could have involved more than one person involved.....
Also...similiar crimes get lumped in and attached to a serial killer incorrectly, or copcats...
The one thing that's pretty scary about serial killing is once the notoriety and MO becomes public and popular knowledge, you can get a slew of copycats.
I’m don’t know if the actor playing De Salvo was anything close to the genuine article, but, he did a more than halfway-decent De Niro impression.
Helen was an Earth Angel!💕💕💕
Imagine calling rape “molestation”. Also, imagine wanting to clear his name because you felt sorry for him. He was obviously a rapist. Obviously escalating.
The question, do we see more of "Secret Hiding Place" Update like Helen meeting with the men?
How is the Helen Conka story not a movie?
I can’t find any information about the story or Helen online, not anything about her going to the White House.
F Lee Bailey was apart of so many huge cases, he even represented OJ.
You have done well helen
