Jeremy and Heather's family later created the "Heather Uffelman Memorial Scholarship" in her honor. Tragically, Jeremy was killed on March 31, 1997, in a car accident in South Africa; he was hit head-on by a driver who had apparently fallen asleep at the wheel. He was 27 years old. The identity of Heather's killer has never been revealed. However, public opinion has since suggested that a computer company owner from Nashville named Tom Steeples may have been the killer. Steeples had committed a double murder in a motel room in April of 1994 that was eerily similar to the attack on Heather and Jeremy. In that case, he lured a young couple, Rob and Kellie Phillips, to the motel with the promise of a record deal, and beat them to death as well. Steeples also murdered Ronald Bingham, a business partner and Nashville bar owner, in October of 1993. Along with that, he also beat and sexually assaulted a young woman several years prior. It has been noted that Steeples closely resembles the composite of Johnson and matches his physical description. Also, the car Johnson was driving had Tennessee plates; Steeples was from Tennessee. However, Steeples died in prison of a drug overdose in July of 1994 without ever being officially connected to this case.
It's unfortunate Jeremy and Heather were so trusting of a complete stranger. Nowadays people would think you were crazy meeting someone like that. But it was a different time and that in no way makes them deserving of what happened to them. An all around sad case involving nice people.

According to Nick, he used this money to replenish his bankroll and gambled it away. It could be possible that Dutch had liquidated the treasure and gave it to Nick for safekeeping since he couldn't trust most of the men under him.
I was intrigued by your post, but have some questions that you might have the answer to. Why would Schultz trust a hard core gambler like Nick with his 5 million dollars? Where would Schultz launder all of those valuable items and get 5 million cash? I don't believe Nick because the individual on the program said that the liberty bonds were never cashed by anyone. I think that Nick was just trying to add a little spice so that he could sell more books.

1) NEVER let em tske you to a secondary location, NEVER meet up with em in a secluded area. 2) ALWAYS stsy on swivel when dealing with STRANGERS and when doing business deals. 3) be strong,be fast,be trained, and keep a defense weapon tucked JUST in case. 4) EVEN if he has a blick, once he gets within melee range...take him👀😒
The witness who saw Lauren being given to a couple in the parking lot likely has the wrong child. It seems more likely that it was visitation time for some child and the girl was going with the other parent and didn't want to go. Many kids scream "don't make me go" when it's visitation time. And if I saw that happen, there's no way I could be definite of which kid it was. Lots of kids have the same likeness. This woman just saw a poster and thought it was Lauren. I don't think it was Lauren's mom she saw but she was likely too involved by then and didn't want to be wrong so she just said yes. Witnesses at the apartment complex said the timing was impossible. And the ex? Of course he would say that. That's why the grand jury refused to take action. Unfortunately this encourages the police to look at the mom. Let's hope she's alive somewhere.
I feel the ex had something to do with it the way he has sweating and he called the baby girl "the child" & how he said the mother didn't want the responsibility; when he was fighting for custody. So, that part doesn't make sense. I feel he didn't want the responsibility and was fighting for custody out of spite to the mother..

The 1930's were thick with mobsters. Back then powerful mobsters were often able to out perform law enforcement. Fast cars and Tommy guns were pretty much unstoppable back then.
Nothing drives home the importance of being a regular, run-of-the-mill, decent human being in today's society more than watching the low-lifes, pervs and assholes on the UM tv series. Made almost 30 yrs ago still just as relevant.
@@refinedsugarthat couple he killed in Nashville were almost killed b4 by someone in Mexico who held the 1 captive and the other asked his mom in usa for several thousand dollars. This couple went to Mexico also for fame as a country singer. Years later this couple traveled from western USA to Nashville, again for fame as he wanted to sing, was a good singer too. This time Tom Steeples killed them both. I saw this on a TV true crime around 7 yrs ago.
I don't know why, but some of the subtitles in this episode identify the narrator/host as "WILLIAM SHATNER." Obviously, that is incorrect. These are the program's subtitles, not RUclips's auto-generated subtitles. (It's possible the error exists in other episodes, but I haven't noticed it if it does.)
Yes! It does, the strange name of William Shatner appears in the first seasons too. Channel's Subtitles must be computer generated too, but not 100%supervised, as when you scan a text; mistakes are rare
Guys, if someone is holding you hostage and is forcing you to go to a remote location, they're trying to kill you. Your best bet is to fight them off in view of hundreds of witnesses than in the middle of nowhere which will make them difficult to find.

Mike G Storage. The classified ads says 4GB hard drive. A standard Q950 shipped with a _230MB_ hard drive. At the time, 4GB would have been a big drive array, perhaps 8x500MB or 4x1GB. But it would not have come cheap... But it would have been necessary for video. And a 24“ display was _enormous_ back then. In a nutshell, people have quickly forgotten how expensive computers used to be, especially ones capable of multimedia production.
Mike G It sure is! After inflation, that’s $55K today! The crazy thing is that that $30K system would have been cheaper than whatever dedicated hardware it replaced. But what’s way, way crazier is that if you’d invested that $30K in Apple stock in August 1992, it’d be worth over $8.5 million today! 🤯
Yeah...I think if you're going to do something as despicable as murdering a five year old child, the proximity to Christmas is probably not gonna be the type of consideration you're used to making.
31:10 Talk about crushed false hope that Lauren Jackson's case was solved. :( I mean its vaguely possible it could be like Jaycee Dugard and she somehow survived, but I'm thinking her white trash mom had something to do with her and the body just was never found. So sad
In trying to find tom Johnson i wonder if they ever went through the phone records. I imagine the killer wouldn't call from his own house but maybe someplace else helpful
Thomas Dewey went on to serve three terms as governor of New York from 1943-1955 as a Republican (how times have changed.) He first ran for president in 1944 against FDR. He carried 45.9% of the vote and carried 12 states and 99 electoral votes. He ran again against Harry Truman in 1948 and gave him a run for his money, carrying almost all of the northeast and much of the midwest and almost won California, Illinois, Virginia, Florida, and Ohio. Had he won any one of those five states, he wouldve won the presidency in 1948. He passed away in 1972 at the age of 69.
If you’re buying or selling, and your buyer or purchaser gives you the textbook name John Johnson, Tom Johnson, John Smith, Tom Smith, run for the hills. Those are likely aliases. But if you must proceed, meet in a MORE publicly trafficked place, like a grocery store parking lot. A big name grocery store, like Publix, Walmart, Kroger, etc. Not something like IGA, that’s usually in one of those one traffic light towns that have like 3 people in the parking lot on a good day. Of course the best meeting place is the police dept. If they don’t agree, don’t sell/buy. It’s not worth your life. RIP Jeremy & Heather.

Those age progression photos are so useless, especially for missing children. I wonder if any missing child in history has actually been recognised by one.
Quite a number of times actually. Here's an article that talks about several cases where age progression photos helped missing children be recognized and rescued. abcnews.go.com/Technology/AheadoftheCurve/hundreds-missing-children-found-age-progression-images/story?id=8830185
@@1981lashlarue Thanks for the link and reply. I believe all of these examples overstate the importance of the age progression image. The highest probability for success is when the child is kidnapped young and is still young. Jayce Duggard was not recognised from her age progression photo, she had escaped. The other two cases involved parental/family abductions which are extremely common, which means the age progression has little importance when parents are already suspects and in both cases the child was still a child at the time they were found. The Aric Austin case which had the biggest age gap from being abducted to being found was because his own father was being investigated for the abduction. I'm talking about an instance where someone has witnessed a missing person solely from an age progression picture without any link that ties a suspect to the abduction.
I believe the strong suspect in the Jeremy and Heather murder and attempted, died in jail awaiting trial on another murder--his computer business partner.
Roxann & Kristopher Jeeves murder is one of the most cold-blooded and horrible cases. But the puritanical, unnecessary fucking war on weed pisses me off. If it was legal, her scumbag brother wouldn't have even been dealing with those lowlifes in the first place!
He was selling on the black market. If it had been legal. He would either been selling something else illegally or doing some type of scheme to make fast money.
There's no way I would transfer any merchandise to the customer's car until I get a check in my hand. Jeremy didn't find it odd that Tom would suggest transferring the computer? It would not have saved that much time to do so.

2) ALWAYS stsy on swivel when dealing with STRANGERS and when doing business deals.
3) be strong,be fast,be trained, and keep a defense weapon tucked JUST in case.
4) EVEN if he has a blick, once he gets within melee range...take him👀😒

Tom Johnson is being played by Stephan quadros. He was a pride fighting announcer with bas rutten
wild. i always thought he was terrifying in this role. they really casted some scary looking people
Malach Campbell I posted this to Stephan on twitter once and he was like “ yep that was me “
The witness who saw Lauren being given to a couple in the parking lot likely has the wrong child.
Thanks For Another Episode Of Unsolved Mysteries With Robert Stack It's Back I Believe Lauren Jackson Was Kidnapped/Abducted Sad She Hasn't Been Found After All These Years But Sadly Her Mother Passed Away Without Knowing What Happened To Her Daughter Lauren I Hope One Day Her Case Is Solved Soon It's Sooo Sad
Unfortunately lauren jackson😭💙 or her remains has ever been located sadly her mother christina passed away in october 2011 without leaving further clues in her daughter's disappearance I really hope after all these years have passed someone comes forward with Information leading to the location and possible Wheabouts of lauren if she's alive lauren would now be 35 years old truly a mysterious and sad😪 case indeed
I feel so sad...Lauren Jackson's case never was resolved 😢
Very sad indeed, it's like she vanished from the face of the earth. Real shame there's no update on this one. 😔

Lauren be my age now so sad about this case
i know; she'd be my age too
I commented on another thread that Lauren's Dad has my vote as the prime suspect. SMH!! (See other comment).
"his sentence for the murders of ... will not begin until at least 2024, when he completes his existing terms"... i bet they thought of 2024 as a very distant time back then, most likely unaware there would be people binge watching the old Unsolved Mysteries online
Binge watchin !!!
🤷♀️🙏
Me too.
Damn I grew up in Marietta, GA at the time of this case. I never knew about this.
I don't know why the 1930s mob stories are interesting to me
If Dutch Schultz died at the hospital, then, the famous image of him laying over the table, was taken when he was Alive...?
The 1930's were thick with mobsters. Back then powerful mobsters were often able to out perform law enforcement. Fast cars and Tommy guns were pretty much unstoppable back then.
Me too.
@@maramarxx2431 probably right after he was shot .

There have been multiple major floodings of the Esopus Creek in phoenicia since this show. Good luck in the search!
Nothing drives home the importance of being a regular, run-of-the-mill, decent human being in today's society more than watching the low-lifes, pervs and assholes on the UM tv series. Made almost 30 yrs ago still just as relevant.
The little boy acted like everything was alright?? He's 5. He wouldn't know if something was wrong.
Killing people with a hammer to steal a computer is truly sick. Hopefully he got a taste of his own medicine at some point.
The most likely suspect is now dead. He passed away in prison incarcerated on other charges.
Why would you give the guy the computer before he paid for it? They made a huge mistake doing that.
Because they trusted him - translation: they were gullible and naive.
They were naive but still doesn't make him killing them any better
What I want to see after all these years of watching unsolved mysteries is the bloopers 😂
Those 80's glassessssss
RIP Heather and the other victims. 🙏🏻
Rest in peace to the lil boy
As a father I'm am drawn to this case. I cant believe how someone could do this to anyone let alone a little boy. RIP kristopher
Who would shoot a 5 year old? What the fuck is wrong with this world??
42:27 Reading that just after it turned 2024 is.... something.... Idk how to describe how I feel about that.
That little boy dragging that tool box down the stairs is bad ass.💯
💯
"Badass"? How so?
Do you even know the meaning of the word?
He should NEVER be paroled, he unalived a beautiful young mother and her precious little baby...keep him locked up.😒
30 grand for a mac, damn, prices have certainly come down since then . . . but then, iphones are expensive for what they are
i once tried to buy a used VCR from rent a center but they wouldn't come down below 600 dollars. if you bought it with weekly payments it was almost double.

No phone are worth their price lol. iPhones def aren’t worth it at all considering they’re basically iPod touches with a phone in it lol. iPods aren’t worth their price either lol

An apple macintosh quadra 950 only costed $7,200 brand new in 1992. What was the extra $17,000 for ?
Seems like a drug deal to me that went bad and the guy who survived made up a BS story to cover up for it.
Guessin thats for a base model the guy selling it was a video editor or something so it was probably tricked out
Mike G Storage.
@@tookitogo maybe you're right, but damn that's a lot of money today. Take it easy
Can you imagine being Roxannes parents. Losing both children and a grandchild

Yeah...I think if you're going to do something as despicable as murdering a five year old child, the proximity to Christmas is probably not gonna be the type of consideration you're used to making.
yea like someone is gonna say "I think ill wait until dec 27th"
Yes, like the cases that happened on Halloween, there's a sad 'extra' cherry on top. I learned from them on Criminally listed
21:40 one of the few moments in the show where we see Robert Stack from the side lol
Very good observation
Actually, that is a good point.
31:10 Talk about crushed false hope that Lauren Jackson's case was solved. :( I mean its vaguely possible it could be like Jaycee Dugard and she somehow survived, but I'm thinking her white trash mom had something to do with her and the body just was never found. So sad
How did he survive that hammer to the head ?! Good God!
Then he died a few years later from a car crash death was chasing him
Many many gangsters buried gold and valuables after the income tax was passed. Most have never been found

Why did he hit Heather so much more brutally than Jeremy?
Cos she responded in pain and he may have enjoyed it

Yeah but how do you get the drop on someone if they pull first?
What a tragedy that a mother had to lose two children and a grandchild : Roxanne and her son Kristopher, and Kurt.
Yeah I feel bad for the grandmother and Roxanne and Christopher but I cannot feel bad for Kurt he put them in danger which is greed and drug addiction but damn George Washington Hicks even more because he took his anger for Kurt out on Roxanne and Christopher and took their lives because he hated Kurt and for that he's a low-life scumbag coward and I hope he rots in hell I hope he dies in prison brutally

Same here! I wouldn't give my merch to anyone who didn't give me the money first or even travel hours away to sell a computer.
Why would u leave two kids outside alone ?! And why would the boys mom leave the little girl outside alone without telling the girls mom ?!
