My Gastrectomy

  • On July 25 th 2022 I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma, a form of Gastric (Stomach) cancer.
I recount my journey here to help others who are going through something similar to know you are not alone. You can heal yourself beginning with your thoughts and attitude.
I want to add here in the description one of my main symptoms that I forgot to mention in my V-log, which was difficulty swallowing, ( also called dysphagia.) This and the other symptoms I mentioned ( stomach pain, persistent heartburn and acid reflux, fatigue, and blood in the stool,) are all red flags and a diagnosis can only be made by a CT scan or endoscopy.
Take care everyone. If anyone has any questions, just leave a comment and I’ll get back to you soon as I can.
    Love, Amy

Hey Amy. Thanks for sharing your story, I had no idea that you went through all that ordeal lately. You look like a very positive person and that's also one thing that must contribute to help healing. Keep it that way, don't let it take you down. Sending you good vibes from this part of the globe.

Thanks Alex. Yes it has been difficult, but now 6 months after surgery I am finally getting my health back and I’m so grateful to the amazing team of doctors I’ve had and the advances in research and treatment that have lead to my recovery. A lot has changed, but throughout it all my love for music has helped so much in keeping me positive and giving me a focus that brings me so much joy.

Wow, Amy. Thank you for sharing your story. I did something similar with my ongoing battle with a-fib a few years ago, like you, in an effort to help others. One of the big takeaways from your story is to always be your own best advocate when it comes to medical issues. So rotten that it took so long for you to get diagnosed due to Covid. I wish you all the best. I admire your courage in doing this. I'm glad to hear you're getting back to your music. God bless and take care.

I so appreciate your transparency telling us this episode of your life Amy. You gave so many great supportive facts anyone could use, and tips for those who might be going through gastrectomy and similar procedures. You're a blessing to us all. Love is the law

Sending well wishes and positive healing energy from the mountains of upstate NY. You've been one of my guitar heros ever since I first came across The Middle Way here on YT (and learned it, kind of) - as well as your many other beautiful songs, "I'm in the Wind" in particular. So sorry to hear of your recent health challenges, but glad you are on the road to recovery. As someone who is now living with COPD after covid, I resonate with everything you have shared - and yes, following our dream is the eternal flame that lights our way in the darkness and carries us onward, further down the road on this amazing journey!

Wow, thanks so much Chris! I’m sorry to hear about your PTSD from Covid. It was really awful that we all had to go through that, and so many lives were affected by it. I hope you’re starting to heal from that now too.

I am sure many people will benefit from your words. Oh, and thank you for re-recording and posting After Halloween a year or so ago. I’m still trying to learn that one from your performance. Tim.

That was so thoughtful of you to take the time to talk to everyone who might be dealing with some issue or struggling with their own form of cancer and to also let them know symptoms that might be the same as what you had. It sounds like you went through so much and I know it must have been so scary. I'm glad to see you are doing better and all of that is behind you. God bless you.

Wow Amy, what an absolutely beautiful video this is. All of the highs and lows, the trials and tribulations, the depths of despair and the spirit and willingness to overcome. Just awesome. I work in home health and have daily exposure to cancer patients, I am always in awe of the way they persevere and seem to have this super power of appreciating life and making the best of every hour in the day. Your video so beautifully captures what I see on a daily basis. Further, you seem to emit this casual kind of “oh well“ attitude about it all. Like it was this crazy, powerful, all encompassing experience but your spirit just handled it and now you reflect on it as if you could do it all again and kick its ass for the second time. I’m so happy you came out on the other end with that beautiful smile and a new perspective and optimism on life. I’m looking forward to your next video with guitar in hand.

"Pretty damn scary...". You have a way with an understatement, my friend. You are one incredibly resilient and indomitable, beautiful soul. Great to see that smile again. Rock that vitamin D3. What dosage do you take, out of interest? I do 4000 iu with zinc every day in Winter when we get very little sun here in Scotland. Anyway, you will have done a ton of research yourself on all that no doubt....and I don't know anything other than it seems to a mysterious and powerful vitamin which is still not completely understood in relation to the immune system and its workings. God bless, Amy. Hope the holiday planning is going well, by the way!

      @amccann7  Год назад +1

Hi James! When it comes to the vitamin D, I’m taking it in two supplements. I’m the chewable tablet, it’s 1000 IU. In liquid form ( it’s in the calcium magnesium liquid,) 204 IU. There’s also some zinc in that liquid too.
Travel plans are in the discussion phase! Looking forward to that trip. This year it’s NYC and Portland Oregon!

As you say, stop and smell the roses. Life is precious.
I used hypnosis to quit smoking and haven't touched one in over 12 years.
I had a stroke about 6 years ago and had to learn how to walk etc again. I'm great now so I kinda understand on some level.
Glad your back. I'm guessing you don't recommend this extreme weight loss life style. LOL
I don't do much social media anymore but I wish you the best.
