- The panic and anxiety attacks were so severe that Christian O'Connell decided to leave his successful radio career in the UK to start a new life in Australia in 2018.
Christian O'Connell explains how his anxiety and panic attacks nearly ended his career in radio, the challenges of starting a new life in Australia and how being a more vulnerable father has strengthened his relationship with his family.
In this chat, Fearne Cotton and Christian O'Connell also share their experiences of having panic attacks and compare notes on how they both use distraction techniques to avoid confronting difficult realities.
Often we collectively focus our discussion on mental health around trauma but a lot of time poor mental health or mental illness has no particular rhyme or reason. It’s no less potent or valid and often more worrying as you try and search for what went ‘wrong’.

I have always loved your show in Melbourne Christian. Congratulations on 1000 shows the other week. You, Pats and Jack get me out of bed in the morning. Best breakfast radio show in Melbourne.
Great chat. Loved Christian on absolute, great to hear his thoughts and experiences on something not spoken about enough
whoa, I stumbled upon this and didn't know I needed it - but I did. I suffered PA's throught my twenties and thirties. Motorways, work meetings...dreadful. Time has helped and its great to know ANYONE can go through this. it's always the outwardly condifent ones. thanks.
Christian I love your vulnerability 😇 you are the best DJ! 👏🏻
You always ooze empathy, I so wish more men were like you.
You warm words to Ferne were so beautiful at the end.
Keep being in your truth!! There are bigger things to come from you…the world needs you!
