Was just in Japan in Jan/Feb and can highly recommend the Kitamura and Map Camera stores for a look. I picked up my Leica M3 from Map and they were incredibly helpful and courteous.
Nice! I loved both stores. They are so nice and helpful, also so careful and meticulous with handling all the cameras and lenses. I’m definitely going back next time I’m in Japan! 😍
Collecting vintage cameras are fun similar to owning antique cars. I’m having Canon and Nikon photographic gears in my collection now, but hoping for Leica and Rolleiflex cameras in the future when I’ve more budgets. Japan is a super city. I went there when I was little. I think it’s more fun shopping there than in the US. 😂

I am from Brazil and will be visiting Japan in April. I am interested in purchasing a Fuji X100V during my trip. Could you please advise me where I can find this camera model?
That sounds like a relatively new camera! You can find a lot of new cameras at stores such as Yodobashi Camera or BIC Camera. These are chain stores and you will find them throughout Japan. Have tons of fun!!! 🤩
Definitely! You just gotta be patient enough to look for them. We found a really rare lens that’s usually around $12k - $15k for $5k 😆 We had to negotiate tho
I’d suggest you to check out Yosobashi Camera or BIC Camera. They are big electronic stores that carry lots of items with an entire floor dedicated to photographic supplies. I’d always stop by when I visit Japan. You can try out the cameras too and ask associates questions 🙂
I can’t say that I’ve seen that personally, but I’m sure many of the stores carry Fujifilm cameras since it’s a Japanese brand. I personally got my TX-1 from Japan 🤩
Did you manage to buy any name brand film, if any, sold only for domestic market? Used to be quite a lot of film available iirc at Yodobashi chain store back in 2016 when last visited. From your vid, looks very reassuring used camera market is still very vibrant there!
Yes! The used camera market is definitely still booming! Though I can’t say the same about film. I used to buy a lot of film whenever I travel to Japan. They were cheaper than the U.S., also had a wider selection and variety. Not the same anymore. They had a severe film shortage and most stores were limiting purchases to 1 roll per customer 🥲 before going there, my friend in Japan even told me to bring my own film if I planned on shooting any… 🥹
Sad state of affairs on camera films there. What is the reason(s) for the film shortage in Japan nowadays, is it to do with new government environmental regulations banning certain chemicals forcing major film manufacturers to stop producing it in Japan?
i'm preparing my bank account for some hefty camera purchases since i'm planning on going back to Japan next year lol. theyre a bit pricier but the conditions of them cameras are immaculate. targeting the Ricoh GR II/IVx or maybe the Leica Q.
Oh man… prepare to do some damage to your bank account 😆 But I agree with you, they are so courteous and careful with their cameras. Also if you ask them where the cameras came from, most of the time they’ll be able to provide some kind of paper trail. Seems like they get items from the Wetzlar Auction often 🙂

Hi, thanks for reaching out! I think buying might not be an issue but importing them into your country might be more complicated as you'll need to deal with duty, taxes and such. Are you looking to buy new or used cameras?
