I’m DECONSTRUCTING this TRASHED DRESSER for parts! (and making a whole new piece of furniture)

  • I recently found a nice pile of trashed furniture out at the curb but this 6 drawer dresser is completely missing a bottom drawer and a few others are totally smashed - so instead of trying to make the missing drawer into some sort of awkward, out of place, shelf situation, I thought I’d probably be better off to write this one off completely and deconstruct it for parts. I do have a loose plan to make something NEW out of the dresser top though!

Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

Are you kidding me??? Holy moly…..I didn’t hold out much hope when I saw the rubber “oak grain” maker, but THAT IS GORGEOUS! It really does look like a pretty white oak finish. Nicely done, Kate the Great! 😉👍👏🏻

This was an interesting video: it was a great idea to reuse the bits, even if you can't reuse the whole dresser! GENIUS. I am binge watching some of your older videos on a Sunday morning and this transformation was miraculous! I love that you truly practice the philosophy of "reuse/repurpose/recyle"--that trashed dresser yielded many useful pieces, and I like that you pointed out the dollar value of each. All that material would have been wasted by scrapping it in the landfill. Fantastic job!

In regard to the pronunciation of the word pecan, in Texas we have a saying about it. A puh-CAHN is a delicious nut you eat and also our state tree. A PEE-can is the thing you keep in the deer stand for when you need to go and don’t want to climb down. 😂

This redo was amazing. I've seen several people use that woodgrain tool and it's looked horrible, but you were able to make it look so natural with the other top coats layered on top. Amazing. I too like the light oak wood finishes that are trending now. I hope I can find this video again when I move and redo the side tables in our new home. New to us, not newly built!!! Thanks so much for showing us how this is done the proper way.
