      I was a DJ in my former life and I noticed people used to sing (loudly) along with this song. When the track got to the line "for his punk ass" I'd abruptly turn the volume all the way down so everyone could hear themselves singing.... such a good song, sooo much fun in them days, great memories.

  • @greg6162
    @greg6162 Год назад +1

    Brad Nowell literally created his own genre and until this day there’s never been another like him. His parents were musicians I believe, so he was schooled from a young age and he was a phenomenal guitar player, considering he’s singing and playing guitar like in most of his songs. He also speaks the best Spanish for a white dude growing up in California. He wrote a huge Spanish part in “Caress Me Down”. He’s also got perfect pitch which is what most people recognize about Sublime at first. I bought a guitar and learned to play this solo 3/weeks later and after recording it and comparing to 6/months later there’s a huge improvement that I couldn’t hear until I trained my ear musically. Unfortunately, he died before he really became famous just a few months after this album came out and won a bunch of awards. He combined Punk,Blues and Reggae and spent time in Jamaica as a kid and was heavily influenced by Reggae and Bob Marley, which you can hear in his music. He wrote so many catchy melodies and combined with that voice and his pitch it’s like getting two songs in one. Imagine if he had worked with a really good producer that could’ve work with him on his next album…? He was only getting better I think but unfortunately he couldn’t kick his addiction and for some reason, so many of the best musicians blessed with that kind of talent also bear that cross and don’t make it past the dreaded 27yr old mark. It’s like a curse in rock bands because so many great musicians died at that exact age… from Jimi Hendrix to Kurt Cobain and obviously Brad as well. There’s too many to list but if you look it up you’ll see the correlation

    Sancho is Spanish slang for the guy that stole his girl from him. His heina(pronounced hyna) is like what Lex said, his queen, his girl. These guys would STILL be killing it if the singer/guitarist was still with us RIP.
    Oh yeah! Pop rocks🤔🤔🤔👍😃

      They still played after Brad od’d. Long Beach dub all stars. Two band members also reunited with Sublime with Rome, Rome Ramirez as the lead singer. No one can replace Brad but Rome has a similar voice/sound. His song Lay Me Down with Dirty Heads is a good one🙂

    Bradley had one of the best natural singing voices and was an amazing guitar player, the solo in Santeria is one of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard come out of a guitar

    Sooo funny hearing what you guys expected of this band, lol! Growing up with this ska stuff, I'm like "you thought Sublime was metal??" heheh. It's really fun seeing people react to stuff, makes me rethink these old songs and sounds. Man, I haven't listened to ska in YEARS.

    Good catch on what Bradley does with that bridge into the final verse. They use the chorus to bridge from the solo to the verse, and Bradley essentially contracts the chorus directly into the verse. It's a nice bit or arranging, something I really appreciate as well.

    You two always mention the "technology" for recording music when you are talking about audio quality. Just to let you know, the 60s were the golden era of recording and studio gear, and the best gear in the world is either vintage stuff, or copies of the vintage stuff. The style of mixing has changed way more than the technology (on major records, not home studio stuff, that's a digital playground) has, and that's the difference you hear. It's literally a preference from the engineer.
    Also as an audiologist, I am convinced Brad is hearing impaired. He should get his ears checked to see exactly what's going on. Seems as if he has nerve loss that is effecting the lower to mid spectrum of human hearing, hence him always saying stuff with high pitched hurts his ears. He has to crank it up to a point where his bad hearing can hear, and at that point the high frequencies are overwhelming. It must be ear piercing.
