Hiking over Mt Karioi (Whaanga Rd to Karioi Rd) | Raglan, New Zealand

- Mt Karioi is located about 20 minutes drive south of Raglan on the West Coast of New Zealand's North Island. The walk over the mountain from one side to the other took me about 3 hours and it was about 8.5km long with 750m altitude gain. I started at Te Toto Gorge on Whaanga Road and followed the Mt Karioi Track up to the lower lookout, where I had lunch before continuing on to the summit (756m above sea level). There were some awesome views on the way up, but by the time I had reached the summit, the cloud had come in so there wasn't much of a view. From the summit, I followed the Wairake Track down through the bush and then through farmland to Karioi Road on the other side of the mountain.

Thankyou that was great well done!
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video and hike!
Thanks for watching!
Fun climb that one, but you’re gonna have to go again because that view at the top is spectacular on a clear day 😅
Yeah I was quite surprised at how rough the track was! Definitely would be an awesome view on a clear day!
Oh wow, that was beautiful...albeit rather dodgey under foot in some places. You clearly need to be sure footed in some spots, which with your experience thankfully you are, and the view was beautiful, only wish the cloud cleared for you at the top. Good job JP.
Thanks for watching! Yes the track was definitely a little bit dodgy in places - the TA is definitely good training though! Was a bit of a shame about the cloud, but at least the view on the way up was pretty awesome.
