An effort to document my first year living in paradise.
A small town situated on the West Coast of the North Island in New Zealand.
Arriving on 2015 without knowing anything about it I started recording spontaneous scenes. Sometimes using my smartphone too.
I used to edit in the van I was living in.
Me and my partner Max, continued on route, when, after 6 months, we decided that Raglan , originally named Whaingaroa, would be our hometown.
But to be close to that community we needed to know as much as we could about it.
Raglan is not only a surf spot, it is not only about surfing. Raglan is a paradise . Its soul and community is what makes it so special.
It isn't always easy to be accepted, as it happens in many other places around the world; it has been built with the effort of generations of people that put much love into it.
This film is to document my last year in Whaingaroa.
A tiny piece of a place with a big soul.
Hope you enjoy it :)

Sara really inspiring. I am 49 have a family, 2 grown up kids..I too #wanttoleave ...but my kids starting their lives now..I know they will buy this viewpoint, once they grow, for now...they arent seen that world, which I dont like... Other thing that I am scared about is Old age. In India we dont have Pensions nor covered by state on Medical front..
what will happen if I now spend all my money
Hi Partho. Thank you for sharing your story. I guess it is never to late if this is something you are willing to do ! :)
Me estoy viendo todos tus videos, estaria copado que le agregues los subtítulos en español para llegar a mas gente. Exitos!

Necesito subtítulos en español... No se ingles
Lo tendré en cuenta para la próxima :)
...I was in raglan in january, and heard a few grumbles about it changing etc...CHLOE & SEBASTIAN moving there etc...it's not as bad as Byron Bay by any stretch, but bewaaaare! when you see artisan tampons on sale,
ComboverSoul tig Places change. Population grows . It’s a fact. And it won’t stop. As long as we learn to respect the locals and their places as well as consume their products we can all contribute to keep maintaining it as it is :)
@@SaraGuix hope so! because this area is awash with "yummy words" like local community organic respect one love bro sustainable etc but it still becomes more and more of a crowded unmellow zoo, while still advertising itself as a chilled out groovy zone,,,,,, that it has no longer been since about August 14th, 2008
Did I hear First Aid Kit singing?
YES :)
Great Video! you should film another about raglan.
Thank you Adrian! I hopefully will SOON :)
Thank you so much. I will definitely keep it in mind. :)
Beware of any place that is seen as, or advertises itself as a HAPPENIN place to be. Just about to leave Byron area in Aus for this reason.
The joint's turned into a corny, fake cheeselord's paradise.
Groovy couples appearing in little free magazines with their artisan-whatever business etc ugh
BEWAAAAAARE!!!
ComboverSoul tig Been living here for 4 years. Still think of it as paradise❤️
@@SaraGuix good ... it is a lovely place NZ is special that's why I'm returning there after having spent most of my life in Aus.....been back for small and medium-sized holidays in the last few years and always thought, "this place, these people are way more interesting, gentle and creative..."
Hmmm the gentrification has started...it'll be another Byron bay
Squizzy Bollocks I strongly disagree 😊
@@SaraGuix Mate they're selling organic coffee......all you used to get was a meat pie and a crate of Waitemata.....lol
Squizzy Bollocks And? May I know why is that bad?
You seem to be surprisingly uneducated on the definition of gentrification. Organic coffee has ZERO do to with gentrification in the wider scheme of things. Most cafes made the switch to organic/fairtrade coffee over 15 years ago, as a response to the global shift in awareness. Sorry you can't just drool on in life without thinking about what you're doing anymore.
Already is.. anyone saying it isn't is dreaming..
