What Happened To The Sixth Sense?

- “I see dead people.” It’s one of the most memorable lines in moderncinema history. Back in the summer of 1999, everyone and their dead grandmother was saying those words in hushed tones, imitating young Cole Sear, the haunted protagonist of “The Sixth Sense,” which was as big of a cultural phenomenon as the movies had seen in years at the time. Thanks to an effective trailer, a word-of-mouth buzz that could not be ignored, the overall high quality of the product itself and, of course, that shocker of an ending, “The Sixth Sense” was one of those rare things at the cinema: a movie you simply could not miss, unless you didn’t mind being left out of the conversation completely.

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: What Happened To This Horror Movie?

This movie makes me cry everytime I watch it. You feel for Cole especially when he finally tells his mom at the end. One of the best movies ever made
I feel like M. Night has at least one more truly great film in him.
I always got scared when Mischa Barton pukes and scares him out of the tent, but the scene where he gives the parents the video was so good!!! This is honestly his best movie till this day.
The transformation of emotion on the dad's face is stunning and heartbreaking.
@@stephenmiller2337 it’s so haunting and to know people like that do exist
When he gave the *Dad* the video. The Mom probably would’ve burned it, if she knew Kyra caught her on camera poisoning her.
The word of mouth marketing on this was unreal! Everyone I knew back then never stopped recommending it to everyone else.
Definitely Shyamalan's best movie; creepy, deep, terrifying, uplifting, and sad all in one film.
Back when Shyamalan was hailed as "the next Spielberg"
Still remember that cover of Time.
Strange times that were... 😉
It's sad that he kind of lost his mojo some time after "The sixth sense".
He’s always been a one-trick-pony. Sixth Sense was the only film that was genuinely surprising in its twist. All the others, even Unbreakable that I thoroughly enjoy, were so obvious it hurt.
Same Era that Kevin Smith was gonna be the "next Scorcese"
@@UkeRebuke really oversold the hell out of em didn’t they?
I had never watched the movie until a few months ago with my girl at home… the ending was just emotional af 😭😭
This is a solid movie and will live on in its reputation long after we're all gone. I can still remember all the different emotions I experienced during my first viewing. Still blows me away just thinking about it. Awesome episode guys! Cheers!
He should have stuck with thrillers/horror. The biggest disappointment was Glass. Now the only twist we won't see coming from one of his movies is if there isn't one. That would be cool, prep the audience for a twist, only for the conclusion to remain, and it be horrifying
What does The Sixth Sense have in common with Titanic? "Icy dead people."
😂😂😂 👏👏
great movie makes me want to go watch it again, the girl who was poisoned being sick scared the hell out of me as kid specially with the nerve racking audio lol
The movie is an excellent first watch if you don't have context. It's creepy, good acting, some nice themes.
This is one of my favorite of his films. I love his movies. Thanks for thìs
1999 had some great horror movies
Much like Signs, it's a masterpiece
This episode is AWESOME!
It may not be a completely original movie, it sure was made well.
Still one of my best experiences in theater and one of my all-time favourites.
This movie legit scared the piss out of me when it came out
Ah Man The Sixth Sense Was All Over The Place In 1999 I Remember The TV Spots, Trailers And The I See Dead People Line That Became So Infamous.
Why Do You Type Like This?
Ive never seen this 😮. Once I got spoilered by the end I felt there was little point in watching it.
The other films of his I have seen did nothing for me at all - The Village, the one with the Grandparents, the ageing one.
Didn’t he have something to do with Devil ? I enjoyed that.
Such a fun movie to rewatch
The kid was really good in it
A movie called "the sixth sense" released on 8/6/1999 ? 👁️
I love it ! Got the dvd at home !
I actually like some of his movies.
Signs, the village, Unbreakable, Lady in the water.
I had no idea this movie came out on the same day I was born. That's actually kind of cool
I would've liked this video more if they had touched on the ending more. They really only teased it, almost as if they didn't want to spoil it for us (a 25 year old movie)
The fact that people told me there was "twist ending" basically ruined the movie for me because I guessed it twist almost immediately...
Whilst I personally prefer Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense was definitely a pop culture phenomenon. I think Shyamalan's problem is he just got a bit too stuck on his success with the movie, and started overrelying on its hook, expecting a repeat of the success, but people just expected that hook of him at that point. He probably would have done better as a writer and director if he played it straight more often than not.
Of course, I'm sure he laughs at critics, all the way to the bank.
I thought most of his movies were fine. I went to see all of them. This movie, by far, was the best.
Video gets a like for, if nothing else, I had NO idea that was Donnie Wahlberg. He was so skinny! Mind blown.
Saw it in theaters as a kid
👍👍👍🎥
The movie is not surprising. Notice how the guy doesn't interact with anyone other than the boy and u never see the man do anything normal. Open a door. Drink something. Shake a hand. Hes just there talking. Its like a one man play with other people😂😂😂😂. People like this?????
Yeah, you are the smartest and you definitely knew from the beginning, blablabla...
@@sidnew2739 I did. Not because I'm smart. Because its OBVIOUS. The movie is boring. No action just a lot of boring conversation. Want a better movie? GHOST. Or Ghost Dad. 😂😂😂
It’s Sora from Kingdom Hearts!
Growing up, everyone acted like this movie had the biggest twist ending ever! Prior to this movie, I watched the likes of Tales from the Crypt, Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, Are You Afraid of the Dark, and read the Scary Stories trilogy. The old "I didn't know I was dead" trope had already been done to death. Hell, Shamalan admitted he ripped off an episode of Dark!
I don’t have to watch any of these works to know The Sixth Sense was done way better. Your point is mute.
😈
Umm... *Spoiler alert* 😂
I remember seeing this in the theater and quite confidently saying to my girlfriend that I had it all figured out.. Can't recall what my theory was, but I was way off 😂
Great film on the first watch but doesnt hold up at all after that. as soon as you watch it a 2nd time you realise that the twist doesnt make any sense.... Pun intended
That is what I miss of the past box office. Some movies start out slow, then word of mouth gets out and attracts people. Now a days, if it doesn't make its money on the first or second day, its a bomb and all the sites declare it.
This is one of the most predictable movies ever. I gave people the ending without seeing it. HE DIES AT THE BEGINNING. How can u tell hes dead????😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Actually watch the movie.
We GOT it, smartass!
Lol this is the first time I found out that was Wahlberg. Crazy
Yea, I guess. I mean, I remember liking it alot when it came out, but I've never watched it since, and always pass over it on movie nights. If that makes sense. I agree, it's a great film, but you might be over selling it just a bit?
Nope.
It's a friggin' classic.
But the dead people don't stay on Earth, kid. When they "play" with the Ouija boards, it's not to contact family members/friends spirit, but something much worse 😂🤣 The Earth is their actual kingdom for those malignant spirits. Most of the humanity try for a long time to obtain a form of paradise on Earth, a society full of pleasures, the perfection, but to count : 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and never get to 7. To find a solution, at the same time to create 10 new problems hehehe
IDK, if the twist in this flick got you, bless your heart because it has one of the most obvious twists I've ever seen in film. After that opening scene and the few that follow it was glaringly obvious he did not survive that gunshot wound that just happens at the start and then we were just supposed to forget about...
We're all so glad you're a genius.
That shocker of an ending??? 😂😂😂 Mmmm nope. Boring.
As someone who lives in Philadelphia I can say about 1/3 of our citizens do what Donnie whalberg did lol
Shamalama ding dong just ripped off the original "carnival of souls", and the ending being "shocking" is only if you've never watched "twilight zone" episodes. 😅
