What Happened to Hostel: Part 2?

- So, like any other horror movie that manages to whip up a frenzy with critics and fans alike, plus a decent box office return, a sequel was inevitable. Although the fevered response to the movie may have been mixed, audiences had a taste for Slovakian-based bloodshed, and Eli Roth was just the man to deliver it. Again. However, with a promise that the grisly ante was going to be upped significantly in the sequel, could Roth prove that the decent premise of the first movie could be expanded upon in the sequel? Let’s find out here on What Happened to Hostel: Part 2.

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: What Happened To This Horror Movie?

Paxton staying in Europe was the craziest thing about this movie 😂
Kind of hard to return home when you don't have a passport
@@TheMidnightSnack12AM American Embassy's kind of can find a record of your passport. So if you ever go abroad, locate an embassy before you travel. Insto presto save your life-o
@@PrinceIsot if those people are that connected they would have people waiting at an embassy
@@TheMidnightSnack12AM yeah.....in broad daylight people are not likely to do something in front of an American embassy
@@PrinceIsot That's true
The opening really pissed me off. Paxton survived the Hostel situation only to be killed off?! That being said, the rest of the film was better.
I named my son after paxton & bill paxton I was so pissed when I rewqtchdd part 2 like dam I named my son after a survivor that didn't survive
The endings dumb too. She escapes just by paying her way out.
@@Ericairline I agree
Me to Bro 😭😭😤😤
@@Ericairlineyeah but it makes more sense than just slipping out of her restraints and walking out...
I liked this one better than the first especially the Bathory scene and that poor actress hanging like that, her veins bulging from her neck from being upsidedown for that scene impressed the hell out of me.❤❤
My favorite scene was the highway bandits kids, jumping of the car. I think in certain horror movies its fun to have a laugh like the evil dead movies.
9:15 I actually pirated this film because a perfect copy of it showed up online about a month before the actual release lol. The quality was amazing apart from one scene where you could still see a green screen in the background that hadn’t been scanned out yet 😅 Pretty sure an editor of the film must have been the one to upload it
Definitely my favorite Hostel
I actually enjoyed Hostel Part 2 a little more than the original. The look of the movie seemed more polished if that makes sense. Like as grisly as it was, it looked amazing! And Heather Matazzaro’s death scene… still one of the most frightening things I have EVER seen in a movie
it turned me on when she was naked before death scene
Cheers Adam.
Watched it once, years ago when I was having a bad day, it took my mind off things lol
I heard Heather's scene was a close set. I like that Eli gave her that privacy.
This movie, just like The Serpant and the Rainbow (1988), makes my balls hurt!
I haven’t seen Roger Bart since he showed in this movie, American Gangster and Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.. all from 2007 I believe.
Taken, Wolverine Origins, and Hostel 2 were the first and last studio LEAKS. They were pirated sure, but this was the first and last time we had theatrical releases get leaked from inside the studio in high definition. So fresh they even had uncompleted effects. But we watched them nearly a year before the official releases. I think this was the moment when studios realized streaming was a viable future for profitability like using Napster's model for itunes and spotify.
I was kinda sad that Heather Matarazzo didn’t survive when I first saw it, but at least she got a memorable death.
The fact that the 2 male leads were from Desperate Housewives, when that show was super popular, kept us from being able to take it seriously.
Right????
Both men stared on Broadway at the time
I didn’t realize the lead actress came from the TCM remake! Always love watching your videos to get these bits of trivia
You would never catch me in that situation.
I wonder why it’s strange that those of us love that love horror movies are some of the friendliest most warming people you could meet. Like Quentin Tarantino said is violent because violence is fun when it’s fake.
This is probably the third time in the past two months I rewatch a film, jump on RUclips and you folks have a video up about it. Just got done showing this one to my mom this evening 👍🏻
I'm not an Eli Roth fan. His films always come up short. However, it's the only film of his that I like. I don't love it but it's way better than the first Hostel movie.
I really enjoyed all of the Hostels, including the 3rd.
The director and his buddies went backpacking through Europe when they were in college. That's why it says it's based on true events.
I enjoy this film and your accent as mines the same 😁😊🐾💜👍👋
I like it, I don't think either Hostel will be argued as a masterpiece, but it is a truly horrific premise. I don't think ER is some GREAT Director or anything, but if you can handle cannibalism I think "Green Inferno" was a great homage to a crazy genre that didn't last long.
I think the second movie had the best storyline. It was unfortunate that Paxton was killed, especially after surviving and escaping. I think it’s to demonstrate just HOW powerful the Elite Hunting Club is. No one gets away once they pick you. The storyline is clever and relies less on violence and gore.
That being said, Lorna’s death has to be one of the best in cinematic history. Effed up, but BRILLIANT.
I've heard nothing but negative criticism about this movie and I really don't understand why. I think it's a great film. Lauren German is bad ass and I love the ending. It's the epitome of "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!" I get that it's not as gory as the first one but so what? There are plenty of other truly depraved torture flicks you can watch instead for that. I'm a supreme gore-hound but I also enjoy a good horror movie with an interesting plotline. What this movie lacks in gore it more than makes up for with fun & interesting characters that you enjoy watching fall into the hunting club's trap.
This is the only Eli Roth film I don't hate, I think for two reasons. 1. I'm not expected to take it seriously (the first one seemed to expect that of me and I just couldn't) and 2. Heather Matarazzo's performance is endlessly entertaining. (And while I'm indifferent to gore I will admit her kill scene is done quite well.)
RIP Wienerdog
I like this one better than the first
Way better than part 1!
Agreed I always watch this in woman's history month
id love to see a hostel film where the focus is on a local, unaware of the horror the country offers, Becomes good friends with a group of foreigners. At points some of the foreigners disappear 1 by 1 and the local starts to try and work it out and piece it together.
Start the film out bright, colorful, show the beauty of Slovakia, then as the film progresses the contrast goes down and gets darker and grittier as it goes. (show the duality of something beautiful but can be dark)
Maybe a ending revealing the local to end up being Alex who would lure the lads in the first movie and be a surprise prequal.
Are you doing hostel part 3?
It just seemed like Roth switched the sexes of the protagonists, leaving me a sense of deja vu, when I was expecting something new and even more terrifying. Boy, was I disappointed.
ADAM
👍👍
can you do wtf happened to hostel part 3?
he did
I like the bathory scene. Its too bad that the real Elizabeth Bathory was probably screweed over for political reasons then got a bunch of wild gory accusations thrown at her.
Part 2 pissed me off it took don’t celebrate too soon to the next level it’s like they didn’t even know what to do with the charachter after part 1 so just killed him of instead
just wait until you

at least in part 2
BETH
WHITNEY
LORNA
were sympathetic victims
we the audience felt bad for
I actually think Hostel Part II is just as entertaining, if not more entertaining than the first one.
I really liked Lauren German in the lead role.. she's great here and I've always had a big crush on her ever since. Idk, there's just..something about her. She's beautiful.
Lauren German, Bijou Phillips and Vera Jordanova are all gorgeous. That alone makes this movie an easy watch. On top of that, I like this one over the other 2, without question.
@@richardboss2892Tried watching Part III, but.. couldn't get into it. Didn't miss much anyway, I've heard.
@VaderPopsVicodin10 it's...fine. It feels out of place of the 3, but it has it's moments. The end is pretty cool.
Way better than Part 1
lol I just showed this movie to my parents
It was good 😈👍
great commercial for Slovakia
Happy woman's history month.
Hostel 2 was miles better, imo.
They heard people's criticism of this one so decided to show us what a shit Hostel movie would look like... they made Part 3 😂
Not many Slovakians were very happy with this movie or I mean the first one
Eh. It's okay.
After part 2 i truly wanted to know more of the lore about this organization, sadly part 3 ruined the ride for me.
Did the writers of this video forget that it's the Japanese film industry that Kickstart the torture porn genre? I assume they saw Audition way back in 1999? 😅
Technically even before that. Guinea Pig was in the 80s i believe
the japanese are into
weird stuff
GIRL & OCTOPUS

I felt let down, cause the first hostel was so awesome and to kill off Paxton after all he went through to survive the first one was complete b.s in my humble opinion, the girls were cool they were a highlight but it felt so lackluster in the gore cause there really so little of it since half went off screen! I don't remember much of it since I only watched it a few times but then I do remember the castration scene and feeding it to the dog and just LMFAO, I really wished it could of been better cause I had high hopes for it maybe letting Paxton live longer to fight then being snuffed out so easy and passing off the hero to Lauren would have been cool, I mean he could of died still just with a little more better valor was all asked
It was just OK. I did like how the main girl got revenge, but other than that meh.
I disliked the opening so much that I never gave the film a chance. I personally don’t like offing the prior protagonist in the opening segment. Makes me feel like I wasted the investment in the first film. I much prefer if we just start with the new protagonist and not involve the original protagonist. Never rewatched and I switched teams to Saw after this
I generally hate 2000's horror, but I do like a few and Hostel 2 I actually like and for one simple reason that is never ever discussed and that is the political satire. As well as characters I actually liked and cared about. The first movie, along with every Saw movie, Terrifier 1 and 2, etc was just gore for gore sake. To quote Scream 4.
Modern horror fan: Well, I like Jigsaw, I think he kills people very creatively.
Me, old school horror fan: But you don't give a sh*t who dies, because there's no character development and it's just body parts ripping and blood spewing.
Oh and when I went to see Hostel 2 in theaters, the entire theater was empty. The only people in the theater were my mother and I,lol.
The 2nd has more of a budget so it looked better, I like the two converging storylines. The characters are better in my opinion. Paxton was interesting but annoying, josh was eh and olie wasn't in it enough. But this movie here is just slicker
I don't care for Torture Porn. Eli puts a spin on the original with humor and smarts. The second one was not so great.
Don't forget that terrible direct to video Hostel 3
Well my Baby Mama likes this flick . So i say "meh"?
These movies did for hostels what "IT" did for clowns. Ruined their business! 💸
i miss edgy deranged horror films like this. The genre has gotten to sanitized and safe these days.
Now you have to cater to everyone.
I remember back in the day at a video rental place I rented the most deranged horror movies.
I felt bad for
WHITNEY
because she seemed nice
I don't think that
LORNA
was a virgin
the fake vampire woman
was a pointless character
I Have All Three Hostel Movies And The Sequel Wasn't All That Bad.
This movie is the reason I will never and have never watch another hostel movie, the beginning ruined the end of the first movie and the end is dumb af. Like this secret kill club would let some girl just buy her freedom, if you kill your attacker to get free it’s not murder it’s self defense so that wouldn’t stop her from being about to go to the cops
Ero guro nansensu (Japanese: エロ・グロ・ナンセンス) is a specific set of cultural trends that arose during the Shōwa era in Japan. Ero guro nansensu is a wasei-eigo word derived from the English words erotic, grotesque, and nonsense.~ from the wiki. Maybe do research before using words incorrectly.
Not as good as the first but ok all the same
It doesn't matter if Eli Roth is behind BORDERLANDS
AVI ARAD ruined everything again
Things went so bad that Craig Mazin asked for his own name to be removed from the credits
I thought Hostel: Part 2 was lower than garbage, yep its basically the same movie but the guys did it wayyyy better. Another prime example of guys delivering and just getting stuff done, while the women come along riding the coat-tails trying to reinvent the wheel - But we all know in reality its guys who invent/reinvent things and besides, in general its best keeping women away from wheels/cars.
p.s. If anyone gets triggered by this honest statement I will assume its your time of the month. Just relax, get a hot water bottle and eat some chocolate... not too much though in case you get fat (or fatter).
Hostel copied Saw.
This guy's thick accent is too much! I love the topic, but I really struggle to understand him without subtitles.
it's ok accent
It is like Shakespeare..all one has to do is listen..I love his voice and that fabulous accent❤❤❤❤
It's because he's from North East England, I have the same accent and love it
@@mychunkyjordi7585 is it Geordie accent?
Probably an American here wanting the narrator to “speak English.” 😂
Part 3 had terrible cgi and wasn't nearly as good as the first 2
Sadly this movie is banned in woke New Zealand...🙄
I hated this film so much. It was terrible and did everything it could to ruin the first. The fire didn't bother me just an overall bad film
Dear god...get someone that speaks English as a second language at least.
It appened that this film is a $hit, just look at the scene of the chain, 🤦♂️ pure idiot plot.
Speak English 😒💨
English motherf***er, do you speak it?!
Yo..why do you have to talk with something in your mouth... it's annoying.
