- In today’s horror movie, a snarky and unhappy couple finds blank tapes in their seedy hotel room after breaking down in the middle of nowhere (another thing you should attempt to avoid in a horror movie) and pop them in to discover they are full of not porn but rather folks being murdered and tortured. But a deeper look reveals that these are legitimate Nicolas Cage 8MM-style snuff films, the murders are taking place in the very room they are sitting in, and they are supposed to be the stars of the next tape….this is What Happened to VACANCY.

This is an underrated horror movie. It makes sense that Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale played an unhappily married couple, since they reportedly butted heads on the set.
Slaughtered the pronunciation of necronomicon lol
Lol, for real. I had to check how it was pronounced just to be sure I wasn't pronouncing it wrong. Thought I might of been prononouncing it wrong this whole time since this is a channel dedicated to horror, but nope, he slaughtered that pronunciation.
Watching this on my tv and instantly rushed to my phone to see any comments on how he said it 😂

At 10:31, he calls the stunt coordinator Luke Gilbert while the footage shows his name as Lance.

What even creepier is the fact that they didn't rewind to snuff tapes after watching them.
Guess the tapes didn’t have the “Be kind, please rewind” sticker on them.
I know, right? They're old enough to have lived through the "Be kind, rewind" phase of history
The scene where they first realized they were in the same room as the folks who were being attacked is excellent. Very well acted.
This movie is better and more realistic than “The Strangers”
I broke down while driving to Northern California. Ended up in a hotel room in the middle of nowhere, when stepped into the room, it immediately reminded me of this movie
I loved this movie when it came out!
The DVD extras had some disturbing extras of scenes of other victims really haunting stuff.
Right after 8mm probably the best and most serious movie about snuff!
Luke Wilson has a lot of B flicks under his belt. Very under rated actor
Vacancy and Sinister are my all time favorite modern day horror films.

I remember the movie's lack of violence... being made in the times of hostel, wolf creek etc... it stood out but the suspense made it quite special and i fondly remember this one. Great little thriller

There's a documentary about the couple that owned the motel with crawlspaces and all that good stuff. It's called Voyeur
It’s kind of been forgotten. I saw it in the theater and always thought it was pretty solid. This is the kind of thriller that isn’t released in theaters anymore.

In the late 90s. My hometown of Lawrence, KS. Also home to the University of Kansas, there was an apartment complex were the owners were rubbing one out in the corridors in-between each apartment. There was human Grease around the peepholes, empty bags of chips, real creepy SHITE. When caught they had to pay each occupant 10s of thousands of dollars. SICKOS

I do watch it from time to time, only because I like these kind of simple thrillers that aren't made too often anymore though they're usually quite effective, so go figure. Sadly though, made right at the height (or low, rather) of Hollywood's then still new-found love of terrible grading jobs so it's not a good looking movie per se but a rather sad affair to sit through you can mess around a bit on the remote control, ironically... Not that it helps much, alas. Wasn't there a sequel or prequel, haven't seen it it's probably not as good and just as 'unwatchable'...
Watch the movie Alone. It came out in 2020 really good thriller
I just re-watched this last month. I had forgotten most of it. It was alright. Definitely worth watching at least once. Or once every 17 years, as was the case with me. 😂
