What Happened To Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)?

- Опубликовано: 23 май 2024
- By the year 2017, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise had already produced sequels, remakes, prequels, prequels of the remakes, a 3D sequel, and Matthew McConaughey with a cybernetic leg. The story of the making of this particular requel, however, involves the dawn of the Covid-19 shutdowns, fired directors and trashed footage, rumors of disastrous test screenings, and a movie that somehow managed to anger people on both sides of the culture wars. A movie that so many of us love regardless: This is the story of what happened to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Ahem…2022.

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: What Happened To This Horror Movie?

Yup, because bringing back a legacy character just to kill them always works out so well for films.
It was such a waste of
@@thechickapedia1175 exactly! I hate when movies do that! Hostel 2 being the prime example.
It all depends on execution. In the horror genre the whole "sudden sequel death syndrome" thing happens a lot and is often expected. It can be annoying. At least something like Final Destination 2 had the "Final Girl" from the first film make it to almost the end of the 2nd film.
For Texas Chainsaw, it was actually a REALLY present surprise that they didn't do the stupid "Sarah Connor old and awesome, Laurie Strode old and awesome" trope which is frankly repetitive at this point.
They actively make you think they are going in that direction just to zig-zag away from hero worship and stay true to the horror theme by killing the character.
For the horror genre, under-cutting the "returning hero" by having them end up as "just another victim" is actually really true to the genre.
@@creategreatness8823 fair point
It wasn't even the same actress from the original, as she she passed away in 2014.
They should have done a twist where the mechanic guy was the hero. Just a normal guy minding his own business, not bothering anybody and now he is stuck in this situation because of these dumb characters. So he has to survive and get out of there.
Fifteen years ago that would have been the plot. Movies have gotten so much worse for the most part.
That mechanic was best character.
He definitely was the best character in the movie and he had a great set up to do so. But honestly, I like the grim ending knowing that nobody wins except the big, hulking man with a chainsaw 😊
Beautiful idea!!!
He IS the tragic hero of the film. He’s the only stand up, legitimately badass character of the film. As someone in this comment section said before, only Leatherface wins in this movie.
I think it sucked because you need a final girl/boy that you can root for - someone you want to get away. Every single one of the victims in this movie was an asshole.
The school shooter victim was the closest thing we got, I like Elsie Fisher as an actor so I was rooting for them to survive once I learned they were cast, so I’m glad they made it out lmao.
I disagree, in the first one the only reason Sally is the final girl is because her friends had no common sense, Sally as a character in the first movie consists of telling off Franklin and screaming, the only reason we root for Sally in the end is because she just watched her brother get his guts rearranged by a chainsaw and that she's now isolated in the middle of nowhere, the only one of the original 4 TCM movies that has a character like what you described is The Next Generation
Yea everybodybwas annoying. The woman from the original was the worse. She had Leatherface right n front of her & let him walk off
@@PlanetNateGamingSally had no common sense in this 1. She was right n front of Leatherface with a gun & did nothing
@@dominiquejones3805I don’t think a gun would have done anything, this Leatherface is massively superhuman
If they leaned more into horror comedy, this movie would have worked. Leatherface looked fine, but acted more like Jason. The massacre on the party bus was pretty cool.
I feel like the movie was cut too short a couple of more filler scenes could’ve done wonders we could’ve learned more about a lot tbh
It directly follows the first movie as far as things are considered
And yet you think more comedy would of helped...
....sigh
@@BopaBola Umm.. exactly how does this follow the first movie? I don't think you have watched either movies.
I wish they would keep it straight faced horror 100%. I mean theres nothing funny about the original. And im not a fan of the comedic tones of the sequels, frankly theyre a mess. At least this one delivers on the violence. I’m so sick of modern horror trying to be funny, this movie clearly wanted to satirize both generation z and alt right millennials so you have a point but they should have leaned into more realistic characters and decisions
@@Freakniqe24i commented this already but i would have loved a chase scene with the blonde girl just because of that beautiful sunflower field.
"Try anything and you're canceled, bro."
I bet the filmmakers thought they were being clever by adding that line.
I love to burst their bubble, but it doesn't.
As a fan I died a little inside when I saw that
@@aryankamnetz9808
I don't blame you. The franchise is dead.
Maximum cringe
As soon as I saw that cringe fest I LITERALLY stopped the movie and played Resident Evil Village instead 🤦🏾♀️
This still is not worse than Jeepers Creeper 4
I agree!
Not even freaking close this movie may be flawed but it's still fun and the gore and Leatherface elements are well done Jeepers creepers reborn did nothing right it was practically incompetent
For me, I hated that Melody had such plot armor that protected her until the shock kill at the end. Leatherface threw a fully sized hammer at her chest, sent her through a wooden flight of stairs, and essentially down two stories to the basement. And she just rolled it off. Sally was just…infuriating to watch. Even the attempt of a meta-twist in just having her immediately be killed. Why bother? And last, it looked cheap. It looked like Universal Studios HHN
I busted out laughing when she survived not only a big ass hammer to the sternum but falling back through a wooden floor. That shit was a MK fatality
And when she had her gun trained on him and he didn't remember her so she just... walks away? That made no sense.
The original was actually scary. The problem with the new ones is that they may be entertaining, but there aren’t scary or creepy enough.
I blame TCM 2 for that - although I freaking love TCM 2. TCM 2 introduced humor into the story, where in the first there was nothing remotely funny. It was dirty, scary, dark and gross. Still scares me after all these years.
@@suzybearheart530the 2003 remake got it right. A perfect film. Stands with the original as different kinds of classics. Shot by the same cinematographer btw
I want to know who said, "Can Leatherface throw a severed head from behind the bus into the bus like he was "curving a bullet" in WANTED?"
All of these recent TCM reboots feel like the filmmakers did not see or understand the original...at all. The approach of making Leatherface an unstoppable Jason or Michael Myers figure never really works.
Leatherface always was kinda like Jason and Myers, just without the pure cold silence or walking, like how in TCM 2 he breaks through a wall likes it’s nothing, or how he survived a grenade explosion, or in TCM 3 when he was hit by a car, and beat with a rock he gets up like nothing in the end, he also lifts a girl up with one hand, TCM 4 he shoulder rushes through a wall of wood and glass, he also punches a door off its hinged, in TCM 3D, he survived a house fire and pushed over a 5 ton van, and now in TCM 2022, there letting that stuff run wild again, he’s always been superhuman, I wouldn’t say on Jason’s level no, but maybe on the level of Myers
@@BTthekingnocaphe was never supposed to survive the grenade in TCM2
@@ri067953 But he did
I personally think this movie Is awful
It's alright but yeah
I agree. Maybe it was my expectations going into it but I didn’t like it so much that I immediately had to rewatch the original film to remind myself that this franchise can still be good.
Surprise surprise
Most of us do, it's way too Gen Z like, And I was pissed when they killed off Sally.
@@VampireA1056 she missed from 15 feet away using a shotgun lol come on
I thought the Learherface performance was decent, but I just hated how the film constantly makes out like someone’s about to die only to get saved at the last second by someone else. It ruined the tension. They did it like 5 or 6 times in the second half of the film, and it got annoying
That bothered the hell out of me.
This movie was so bad it made me hate Texas Chainsaw less, didn’t know that was possible.
Texas Chainsaw has original ideas at least and the van sequence is awesome
I really liked the Netflix one, not as good as the originals but the bus scene and the ending were hilarious.
Bro the party bus scene was dope but pissed me off. Like 20 able bodied adults just waiting to get dusted? If you don't rush that boi. Try at least. 😂😂😂
True, they should have tried but I doubt it would work, he’s immune to things like knife attacks, chainsaw attacks, and shotgun bullets, he also has a chainsaw and superhuman strength, I don’t think it would work
It was okay.
But too many 2010s buzzwords trying to be trendy dated it fast
The final girls were obnoxious AF.
Its hard to enjoy a slasher film when you don't like the "victims"
Honestly, this movie was one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time.
It was awful, so disappointing that Fede Alvarez was involved as he’s been great in every other major involvement he’s been involved with. High hopes for the new Alien film..don’t mess this up.
It's not the best TCM or horror movie, but I had a good time watching it. I'll see another one. Hell, I'll see all of them regardless.
Movie was absolutely awful. Nonsensical in most ways and to hear they put this much thought into it but dropped the ball on execution is just mind boggling.
Am I the only one who enjoyed this entry?…Leatherface was BRUTAL.
Idgaf i liked this movie i got what wanted entertainment. Not complainment.
the main problem is too many of the characters where you didnt care if they died, too many horrors do this trying to make the killer the next jason or freddy, when if you hate or dont care about the heroes then you dont care about the villain
Keep up the great work Mike. So happy to see you branching out
This movie was a pile of poop
You're a steaming pile
I thought it was fun. Obviously flawed but it goes by fast. Before you have time to be bored by it, it’s over. Great for Netflix
It was okay. The social commentary was pretty heavy-handed.
Just a wee bit 😂
The introduction to the mechanic is the final girl starting a fight with him on guns haha
Another TCM movie that fails to mention the family. It also fails to retain any of the original characteristics/personality of leatherface.
Wasnt this the one where they tried to score virtue points by making one of the main girls a school shooter survivor?
Great to see you getting more opportunities Mike
I didn’t think it was that bad. It's not spectacular but isn't as nearly as bad as 3,4, 3D, or Leatherface.
100%
I love Mike from We Watched a Movie narrating!
Ill stick with the original, TCM2, The beginning, and the 2003 Biel remake. The last two, in thst order.
Completely agree with your list. Literally my favorite 4. The beginning severely underrated
@@johnwinston1499 Another man with good taste!
You can't watch the Beil massacre without watching "The Beginning" first. They both are very well made, especially with R Lee Eremy in both.
Making Leatherface into another Jason Voorhees completely ruined his character
All of these reboots keep missing the point entirely. The creators don't understand his character or psychology AT ALL.
They keep saying how much they personally love the original film and how faithful their crap is going to be, but...did they even watch it?
Why do they keep presenting him as a mindless, robotic, zombie "Jason" killing machine if they supposedly love the character so damned much? Why do they keep disregarding his role as an exploited manchild? Why do they keep overlooking his sheepishness under abusive authority? Why do they keep making him mute when the original character was clearly a thinking, speaking person, albeit on an obviously mentally deficient level? Why don't they see his basic human sympathy trying break through, but constantly being suppressed by his family?
They just want a bigger, scarier, meaner masked killer with more blood and guts, which is NOT what the classic (intended to be TV-friendly) movie was about.
And as long as they keep missing the point--particularly concerning Leatherface's CHARACTER--they will continue to miss the mark.
@@colin_in_sick They've rebooted Leatherface's character far too many and even keep changing his name. I don't care what anyone says his name is Bubba Sawyer.
I agree, he should have had more emotion when killing, there was times where he was not like Jason at all, he was a mindless killing machine, and he was also not a mindless killing machine, like when we see him cry in his mothers room, or when he genuinely cared for his foster mother and when she died that’s what set him off
I think they tried, but ultimately ended up making the franchise even more of a klusterfuk 😂. Not saying that there wasn't at least an attempt, but they definitely did not stick the landing! My biggest issue with that movie is the bus scene where Leatherface just kills everybody, and society just stands there recording it 😂 🤳🏻. That's what hurts me the most-watching that stupidity!
Is Mike from we watched a movie narrating this?
The directors explanation was a big turnoff for me...thinking about issues of gun violence and gentrification in a horror movie with Gen Z? To me a movie like TCM should be about survival and sacrifice, I can't imagine a moment where a character has a gun to shoot leatherface but then stops to think "wait...am I perpetuating gun violence?"
The only part of this movie I liked was the final kill. Otherwise, not a fan.
Exactly how I felt. Movie was so bad but the final kill I did think was cool
This was actually a good surprise. And promisingly more violent than Scream V. I preferred this a helluva lot more.
The shoehorned “racism” with the black character threw me off straight away 😞
Imagine being so deeply far left that you make this movie
Is it left though? They write the leftie characters as a-holes and show the gun toting right wing type as being misunderstood and actually a nice guy who sacrifices himself to save the lefties. Then the bus scene seemed very tongue in cheek to me taking the p1ss out of young leftie types. They also show that actually guns are really useful in situations like a chainsaw wielding killer running around.
@@darkwoods1954 No dude, bad movie = woke movie. I am a serious film critic🤠
Imagine thinking leatherface brutally murdering everyone is “leftist”
@@jabrokneetoeknee6448LMAO
I loved this entry in the series!!
The first one is like the first Exorcist. They captured lightening in a bottle and set the bar TOO high ever to be replicated...
They pushed with TCM2 and it actually worked. Any entry after that was pointless
Elsi fisher was friends with my kids. They shared a babysitter but unfortunately the babysitter Nikki Harding in hemet ca was a groomer and got wildly obsessed with our kids and had them call her mom and talk bad about us to our children while we were at work. Us parents were friends so we all got together when we realized what was happening. But it’s been cool seeing elsi start with commercials to this.
This movie is so bad that it lowered my intelligence. That scene where old woman has the shotgun on the killer and just let him leave.. and the dialogue in some scenes. So stupid movie.
I was really surprised by how much I liked this movie. It was fun af. After learning more of the film makers intentions it all makes more sense. That ending 🤘
I just rewatched this last night. Im in the minority but i enjoy it. The slasher elements are strong, i just wish we could have gotten a chase in that sunflower field or a longer sequence with the blonde girl. It’s a short film that satisfies your blood thirst lmao
remember the movie: Motel Hell 1980
I knew I recognized that voice! Hahahaha lesss gooo wwam!
Man 2022 was such a bad TCM and that’s saying something
The best part of the movie was Leatherface walking back to the original house. That’s what I wanted the whole movie to be.
ALSO... Vern Stierman did the opening narration for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and his was by far the best.
Fave part of this movie is the GIF I made to make fun of it. When leather face swings the chainsaw toward end of film like
“Oh no you didn’t”
Okay but when did Mike from We Watched a Movie start Narrating for Joblo?
I thoroughly enjoyed the bus massacre scene and some cinamatography, the ending also surprises me.
However, being honest as a long time fan of the original, I absolutely hated this movie.
I own the orginal and the early 2000s remake only, this film looked terrible to me from the start. After my nephew watched it and told me how much he hated it I knew it wasn't even worth watching once. There's absolutely nothing that interests me about this one at all. Nobody I know who watched it said they liked this movie and felt the orginals were better.
Texas chainsaw the beginning 2006. Last good one
Did this movie get a physical release?
This ending shot had me rolling 💀😂 I need a sequel just for more funny scenes like that I mean what in the world
I thought there was some cool looking cinematography and a decent Leatherface...but what killed this for me was what ruins most horror movie attempts these days, is that the main characters were people i DID NOT like or want to root for. Often times, characters/victims in horror films are not fleshed out properly so it doesn't give the viewer a chance to connect or empathize with them. This movie gave a half-assed effort with the "school-shooting" angle with one girl, but the other chick and her friends were annoying self-centered narcissists.
That was a selling point for me. Very early on in the movie I started rooting for Learherface.
I liked the main girl because she was more thoughtful and accepting than her idiot friends. None of them would have given mister mechanic the time of day but she talks with and spends time with him. The two might have been opposing personalities but she treats him like a person rather than a hateful strawman. And what's the first thing the sister does when she finds them together? "DID YOU FUCK THIS GUY?!?" And the main girl is just disgusted by her sister's behavior. You really get the sense that she's actually a good person, as opposed to the rest who are "good people".
wewatchedamovie!!! oh shit it's crazy hearing you talk so serious an calm lol
This film is fucking terrible. Bubba Sawyer is not Michael Myers
You have inspired me to watch the movie. All the negative press made me avoid it but I'll give it a shot now.
I thought it was okay. I liked it better than Scream 5 and 6 🤷🏼♂️
Melody getting the poop on her was by far the best scene.
I’d be interested seeing a sequel to this film but highly doubt it because of its criticism
I loved this movie it gave what needed to be giving which was a thrill ride all y’all who hate it too old school! My family and cousins have a good time with it lol it’s a slasher what the hell do u want from it?
100%
The two leads were scarier looking then Leatherface
At the risk of sounding like a total pig, you go from reboots of TCM starring Jordana Brewster, Jessica biel and even though the movie sucked… Alex Daddario. One of the female leads in this movie had hair like a cafeteria lady. Slashers have at least one of the two archetypal women… a pretty heroine or at least a tough, girl next door type to root for. No one in this movie was likable.
Horror films need beautiful women in the leading roles. Yes, sure, beauty in the eye of the beholder...but the standards are the standards for a reason. It is because most people tend to agree when they see an attractive person and what features make them attractive.
Nobody goes to the movies to watch a bunch of normies on screen. This whole "People need someone who looks like them or is exactly like them, and isn't too pretty or successful when compared to the average viewer" mentality is absolutely dumb.
In the universe of horror at the moment they throwing anything at the wall and see what sticks
whys this sound like Mike from WWAM?
The wokeness in the beginning had me rolling my eyes into the back of my head, but the longer I watched, the better it got, and the bus scene made the movie worth watching.
The initial poster they revealed advertising this film looked so cool I was hoping it would be treated with respect as a prestige release, trying to compare with the 2018 Halloween. But instead it just copied that film on a surface level of bringing back the original survivor girl. But Sally was no Laurie Strode. She has little history in the franchise apart from that one film and the original actress wasn't even alive to return so it was all very hollow and meaningless.
The bus scene was fantastic. I don't think the movie was great, but that scene alone made the film at least watchable for me. I just wish it had been a standalone film and not a Texas Chainsaw Massacre flick.
Fr me the movie was OK but there was no need to bring in a Legacy Character. On the positives amazing gore god actors an Leatherface was AWESOME. Now I want to see what the original version of the 2022 looked like.
I made it through more of this video than I did through the movie.
Unpopular opinion; I thought this movie was great. Watching the woke, cancel culture crowd, get mowed through was hilarious. A great combination of laugh out loud horror comedy, gore and even some genuine tension and scares was awesome!
Brutal, Yes it was!
The Rest of the Movie, No thanks!
Idk I expected the worse going into this and actually had a decent time watching it. It’s not good, but I had fun watching it and would probably watch it again.
The closest movie I've ever seen to the original was a movie called Tourist Trap. So, don't look for it, it ain't gonna happen.
Thank you, I love it too. I don’t feel the need to defend it and act like it’s a good movie. But they are things about it I feel like I “get” even if the satire was totally unintended. I just love the vibe.
This movie wasn't that bad c'mon, that bus scene kicked ass!
Also sally getting taken out like an ant was great. Extremely annoying character in the original.
I just want to see Chop Top again :(
As a huge fan of TCM, I agree it’s flawed but I enjoyed it & it entertained me that’s all u can ask for a franchise that’s been up & down for 50 years
This was a solid installment
If you imagine Leatherface is Jaws in this movie, it’s absolutely hilarious
Like the shark?
@@etangbose4755 lol yes especially towards the end
The only I enjoyed was the bus scene . And the scene at the very end which totally caught me off guard .
It seems a little out of touch to report Netflix’s viewership/chart numbers as accurate
That weird face girl just continues to be in mid horror movies. This, the best friend exorcism was 4k melatonin. Her face is so weird that it kept me invested though.
I want them to release this movie on Blu-ray already
I’m pretty sure I watched this like 4 times since it came out. It’s not bad I did enjoy it. But I did not like the come back of the chick from the first movie. They could have left that out
Gettin some GD JoBlo Horror up in me today!!
The bus scene was good.
Yo name Todd Tucker 😂😂 8:06
Better than the last 3 TCM
I loved parts of the movie and Mark did a amazing job playing leatherface
this guy apparently doesn't know what happened to anything, hopefully one day he will know what happened to everything.
I remember people hyping this movie up cause the director grew up in my town or something but holy shit it was awful. Personally for me, i don't care if hes from my town but it was so bad. Idk how i got through it😊
I think this movie is a lot of fun at under an hour and a half it's a pretty solid time also it's the only one to really have an actual chainsaw massacre
I like the movie but the Sally subplot should have been cut out!
This movie was not as bad as everyone tried to make it out to be lol it’s much better than most of the sequels
