Prom Night Remake: Is It THAT Bad?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 май 2024
- It’s prom night 2008 and Donna Keppel is planning to wear a champagne-colored dress. Corseted, with pink and gold beads. Unfortunately, it might also get splattered with blood and tears, because the teacher who’s obsessed with her has broken out of the mental hospital, tracked her down to the prom venue, and is ready to make sure she’ll be his forever. Even if that means having to slaughter her friends first. That’s the story of the 2008 version of Prom Night and if you haven’t seen this one, it might be the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw.

That opening scene is horrific, due in large part to Brittany's acting. She sold it. Having to literally watch your mom be murdered not 2 feet away from you AND trying to stay quiet the whole time. I just wish the rest of the film was that intense. It has some good moments but it definitely should have been R rated so they could make it stronger.
I actually loved this movie growing up, there was something absolutely sinister about that old teacher being obsessed with that girl like that 😭 but the 'I know what you did last summer' ending was very, cliche for it's time .
Imagine a remake / reimagining, maybe a miniseries that went into Donna at school and Richard Fenton creeping on her. Really spend time getting into his head and showing a slow progression of insanity? Finally ending with a more gory version of the Prom Night massacre? I think it could work.
It's honestly one of my favorites. It had sentimental value to me because it came out around the time of my actual prom and graduation.
Can you do sorrority row after this . I absolutely love that film. It's definitely not a classic . But it's a great laugh. No alcohol required
I love it too😊would be a great movie to cover on this channel!
Yes love that movie !!
I loved sorority row. Leah Pipes absolutely nails it as Jessica and Briana Evigan was a good final girl
I enjoyed Prom Night 2008. It had some suspenseful moments, including when she was being stalked while the fire alarm was blaring. Idris Elba held this movie together.
This movie use to scare me as a kid. That scene of the girl in the blue dress running away always got me. 😅
I had zero idea the 2008 version was a remake. Time for me to go watch the original!
The original suck I find the 2008 remake actually better
Start with Prom Night III: The Last Kiss, it’s the best one lol
The original is a classic 80s slasher! So if you like those, you’ll like this one :) I prefer it over the “remake”
Please watch the original instead
@@lovestumacher the original is 🗑️the remake is 10x better lol
The biggest mistake was acting as if they were making something OTHER than a slasher movie. They embraced some of the slasher conventions, but ignored others. Namely, that of putting the killer in a mask. Slasher killers need to be kept mysterious, either through being masked or through being hidden for most of the film(like with Mrs. Voorhees in Friday the 13th)...This movie takes an average looing guy, puts him in a dorky looking baseball cap, and turns him loose. He just has no energy, no sense of dread or intrigue....The mere addition of a mask would have improved him tremendously.
Agreed!!
Prom night 2 was definitely my favorite
Same. I love the original with Jamie Lee Curtis but Hello Mary Lou is actually better overall.
Mines too
First time I saw this movie, I didn't know it was a remake. I did enjoy watching it
I like this movie & don't really get the hate. I also just loved Brittany Snow. I watched that tv show American Dreams from the start because my mom grew up watching American Bandstand. Brittany was also great in John Tucker Must Die which was released a couple years before Prom Night if Im not mistaken..?🤔 "Would You Rather" is another great horror movie starring Brittany! Great video!☺️👍
Black Christmas 2006
When a stranger calls 2006
Prom night 2008
The stepfather 2009
All underrated perfectly watchable additions to their classic slasher franchises franchises
I like this movie! This took part in introducing me to the slasher genre as a little 10 year old. Years later, it’s still a good watch.
This movie wasn’t all that bad, definitely not as graphic as I expected but there’s some solid scenes in it. And the cover of Time of the Season is still an all time favorite.
I don't mind this film, it's different to the OG which I appreciate. I love the OG but I really like the storyline in this and I love Idris Elba. Great video as always guys 😊👍💜🐾
Nice to finally hear some love for this movie. There are better movies but this one's no slouch. I remember thinking how good Brittany Snow was and seeing her in X she keeps getting progressively better and of course Idris Elba was great. Reading most of the other comments are positive is in contradiction to nearly every other review on line which automatically and in unison condemn this movie. This demonstrates the gap between sheep chorus of critics and the real people who make up their own minds. Congratulations to Jo blo for giving deserved credit to this entertaining thriller and the talent behind it.
Best thing about this movie is the soundtrack
The way I see it as I got it more when older. It's a movie about trauma
Donna isn't final girl material
AT ALLLL‼️‼️🚮🚮🚮🚮
Have to disagree on this one and I’m someone who actually likes horror remakes, this was genuinely one of the most soulless bland “horror” films I’ve ever seen, painfully bad.
I hate watch it annually though, something about it
@@k.miranda4667I'd put it in the same category as the Black Christmas remake from '06.
I know it's not _good_ but there's something compelling about it
I actually like Prom Night 2008. As a horror fan I have friends that can't stomach a lot of the more bloody and intense movies that I find enjoyable. Something like this would hold up for my friends as a fun time that has some suspense but not too much
This is kinda on the same level as the house of wax movie. Like it’s nothing revolutionary but it was entertaining enough to watch. The opening scene especially in this movie has always stuck with me, it’s horrifying!
I don’t think this film is amazing, I think the teen drama was a little stale and I think there should have been more cat and mouse logic in it (like picking off Danna’s friends one by one, since they are protecting her from her own fears, this being the big night to let her fears go). I think Lisa should have seen the killer when they entered the hotel and throughout the night she realizes who the killer is and is chased when she tries to tell Danna who he is and that they need to leave. And I think the jump scares are bad and should have been changed for better scares. But I think it’s rating wasn’t too bad to it and I have great memories of this film, because I was in middle school at the time (though I should have been a freshman that year) and this was the first horror film I saw without my parents (though I went with my sister and a family and his friends) and it was such a fun experience for me. I felt that compared to like the Stepfather remake, it itched that beginners to horror itch. Also the original film wasn’t the best story wise, but kill wise was good (and the couple in the van was the only couple that was interesting), so I don’t see why people act like it was this amazing benchmark slasher film, acting like it created the “kids kill someone and later get killed for killing them”, when I Know What You Did Last Summer was a book that had been out for a while at that point (though I do know some of the cinematography was inspiring to these films post Prom Night). I honestly would remake a film of this film to really create a unique horror film that is a bit more slasher and has more modern sensibilities and modern prom scene, because 2000’s proms were better than 80’s proms. And the killer being a good looking teacher makes me happy with how many teen shows make good looking teachers apparently good, when it’s creepy (and I’m not talking only Pretty Little Liars, despite it basically has everyone in its central main characters as high school students date grown ass people).
I would watch the 2008 version over the original 1980's film any day of the week, Just because a slasher came out in the 80s doesn't automatically make it a classic, it just means it was primed to be remade and imo, it was done so successfully. Thanks for spotlighting this fun little film.
Yes! I loved this movie! Even though it was PG-13 it still delivered good entertainment.
I like Brittany Snow, but this movie was not that good. Just my opinion, but I actually like the OG Prom Night movie a lot more.
I like Brittany snow too but unfortunately I didn't like this movie at all
I rewatched it yesterday, I honestly don’t see why it gets so much hate. I thought it was a fairly decent slasher
"It's like a champagne colour, it's a little sexy 😝" This movie came out when I was like 11 and I was obsessed with it lol.
Prom Night (2008) has a few good moments but ultimately suffers from being totally bland. Like, how many times does the script do the same jump scare where Donna closes the bathroom mirror and someone's reflection is standing behind her? At least 2 or 3 times. It’s so lazy.
The filmmakers can say they were going for a psychological thriller angle all they want, but at the end of the day it’s about teenagers being killed off one by one by a psycho killer on prom night. Work around the PG-13 rating and deliver some good thrills and kills! Lisa’s chase sequence is pretty damn good. The blood splatter on the poly sheet was visually striking and effective and the film needed more of that.
Honestly I actually liked this movie even it’s nothing like the original also loved as well I think for the scariest scene for me was when Lisa was being chased and killed in her beautiful blue dress….
Wop wham a boo bob joo. Then the lockers close in on the victim. Prom night two was absolutely ridiculous
Yes, it’s that bad. It’s a story about a teacher obsessed with a student and then decides to kill the people around her. We know who the killer is and why the entire time. This makes the kills just a snuff film fluff. We know the lead won’t get killed and at the end the killer will die. What’s the point?
Unpopular opinion the original prom night is sooooooo much better than this version 🖤
@melissawinn996, is that really the unpopular opinion??? If so, that's a damn shame!
That's a popular opinion.
I feel like I have to comment on this video only because I never gave this movie a shot in hell because of the title. This movie should have been called “Prom”, and I would have watched it. I cannot understand why so many original ideas are attached to existing, intellectual properties that ruin any chance people will give it a chance.
It’s actually the antithesis of the Black Christmas model
Agreed, a rare instance of the remake being more enjoyable than the original. Brittany Snow was a compelling final girl.
Disagree 100% Though this remake is not terrible, the original is definitely better, in my opinion.
The Original Prom Night Is Wayyyyyyyy Better Than The Remake.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
YES.
Yes.
I dont know I never saw it
I personally love this film. My only changes I'd personally make is making it rated r and use the idris elba character as the dr loomis type of character
Not getting a sequel ALONE says a lot… 🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮

Always hate the creators that are like, "don't compare us to this other film, they are completely different," while having the same name, plot, ideas, and themes. Sorry, but this Prom night is just a watered down version of the first missing both the violence and the mystery of who the killer is. This one just tells you who the killer is and I kept waiting for it to be a Red Herring and a different character would be the killer. But knowing who the killer is in this just makes the whole thing dull as you know everything that is going to happen. Its not an awful film, but there is nothing here that other films haven't done much better
It hasn’t been at least 20 years yet to try and rewrite history on this ine
I gave it a chance and even tried to like it, but it doesn't work for me.
Fans wanted a story that was like or similar to the original 1980 version. What we got was a PG-13 Lifetime Movie of The Week film.
It never should have been called "Prom Night" if the story was drastically changed
You wanted MORE Prom Night movies?
It's pretty good. Just disassociate it with the original and dig on the suspense and you'll enjoy it more.
I love Brittany snow so much I wanted to love this too I was waiting for something epic to happen and it never did
I actually like this movie, I picture Ruby Gillman as Donna
I always found this movie to be entertaining. Never was nothing special but for being a slasher it isn’t bad neither.
Brittany Snow is the love of my life and she can do no wrong in my eyes.
Does the Remakes of prom night and the step father have ties to nip tuck
Great video, my friend
I also review horror movies
I like your style, Keep it up 🙌🏻
P.S just subed
Thanks for the sub, dude!
@JoBloHorrorOriginals anytime mate 🤘🏻
Fight me, but this movie’s only good part is the LOL scene where the chick tumbles down the stairs.
Honestly, the only vaguely interesting thing about this movie was the casting of the detectives. If you're a fan of HBO's The Wire, seeing Detectives Stringer Bell & Ziggy Zobotka will probably make you smirk.
I'll give it a go.
I like this movie if it had more Gore and rated R it has nothing to do with prom night it should be called night at the prom
As much as I see where you guys are coming from here, I'm not a huge fan of the 2008 "Prom Night". I think that if this was a standalone movie that didn't slap the "Prom Night" name on it and call itself a remake, I probably would've enjoyed it a lot more. I'm a huge fan of Jamie Lee Curtis and the 1980 original "Prom Night", so I don't appreciate how this one aped off that original name so much.
I’m not a big fan of the original. I remember watching it and thinking that it was very predictable and lacked any real suspense. It obviously inspired a lot of other movies, but I didn’t think it was a very good movie itself. That being said, it’s light years ahead of the remake. I at least got through the original, whereas the remake was so bad, it felt like a chore to watch, and I didn’t even finish it. Brittany Snow did give a very good performance in the movie, but everything else about the movie was awful.
The storyline had some good parts, but at the time, I felt Britney Snow's acting was weak. At that time, she just didn't seem like final-girl material. I enjoyed Dana Davis's scenes much more.
So little Canadian killer kids wouldn't have worked in a remake? 😅
Yes it is really that bad - a total disgrace
Never watched it even though i think Brittany Snow is underrated
Omg the original.prom night is BOOOORRRRING!!!! It only gets any notice because of curtis being in it. If she wasnt in the original then it would of been forgotten.
The 2008 version would of been recieved better if it wasnt called prom night
I feel I’m one the few ppl who likes it
I watch it once and it's soooo boring, like The Fog remake, I don't feel anything, it's a good background movie though
I've noticed that the girls on horror front covers are typically hot... However, their face is typically in a state of fear. So, it kind of conditions you to think a scared or girl in fear is attractive. Not sure if I am explaining properly, but I find it a little odd I am thinking that way. Its kind of like those detective comics with women tied and vulnerable up on the cover, which spawned a fantasy for men (and women, as believe me, i've met more than a few).
Yeah you’ve definitely got some odd thoughts
@@step9624 I am definitely not wrong though - Did you think the chick in the video thumbnail was hot or any of the other horror thumbnails?
Als, I should have said "observation" instead of "odd i'm thinking that way" as I genuinely think its an advertising tactic to play into a behaviour type, similarly to the detective comic thing.
@@suavebob No because I’m not one of those dudes that sees a half decent looking women on a RUclips video and has to instantly comment about it
@@step9624 You're not understanding the point of my question. Never mind.
The only unbelievable thing here is that the creep is attractive. Remember, the only difference between a creep and a guy being cute is attraction level 😂
That's not unbelievable at all, and you need to stop lying to yourself. Anyone can be a dangerous creep, it has nothing to do with attractiveness.
She’s a decent actress but the movie is not that good lol
This was horrible on a large scale! Besides the obvious watered down kills, that lame pov shots of the victims and killer where so lame!! I forgot poor idris Elba was in it!! What a total waste of a fantastic actor no great actor cause let's just face it he's awesome! I'll give ya this Brittany snow was fantastic too but not letting her be a final girl that fights back was a big mistake, no huge mistake, cause even though it tried to stay away from slasher territory. There's no mistaking it was a slasher!
i thought this thing was god awfu
Sony paying JoeBlo to make this video? One of the worst horror movies you never need to see.
Literally one of the worst though, people love to remember things differently.
Nah. This was a terrible slasher. The PG-13 rating was a mistake, and it had no charm or signature style to it. I mean even the look of the killer was lame. A guy wearing a baseball cap? What's next, are you going to do a video arguing that the When A Stranger Calls remake wasn't that bad too?
Oh I saw it. it felt like a Lifetime movie of the week
I saw this in theaters with friends and I think I pissed them off because I kept counting down to every “scare” because they were all so painfully predictable. Terrible movie
I saw this movie twice in theaters in high school. I did not like this one
It's not only that bad but I'd rather watch manos the hands of fate on a loop
Ok but Manos is amazing..🤔
Thought it was going to be good but was I disappointed it was a total BORE no scares nothing. I love horror movies and always walk in open-minded but this is really a miss for anyone
A total suckfest.
This movie is terrible. I have never been able to make it through the whole movie in one sitting despite trying multiple times.
Not a good movie. With that being said, I don't hate it.
"There are characters who slipped through unscathed"....immediately shows scene of black dude...not a real horror movie if the black guy makes it thru
It’s one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen and the fact that it’s a remake in name only just pisses me off
It’s an OK movie. Sub par kills and characters with relatively zero substance. But the cinematography and Brittany snow are nice! 4/10
Gonna disagree here. This movie truly is that bad. People get stabbed, up close, on camera, dont bleed and then die. Its bad. One of the worst by the numbers cash grab remakes of that era.
Nope... It was far shittier than the already lackluster original
Yes. Yes it is.
Yes, its that bad
Its a TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE FILM.
This was a terrible remake, nothing good about it at all
This looks lame.
No. Just no. This was terrible.
it's terrible
AWFUL ‼️‼️🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮
Yes. It's pure Hollywood garbage. SKIP
Agreed
No its bad
i thought it was lame =/
Not really, I never liked the remake at all. I saw it in theatres, and I walked out of it with pure bad taste in my mouth. Having someone that looked like K-Fed be the killer is never a good sign for a horror remake.
