Pumpkinhead 2, despite not adhering to the original's rules, is an entertaining, slasher-like sequel that deserves more recognition. Similarly, the sequel to Swamp Thing released seven years after the original, took a tongue-in-cheek approach but failed at the box office, earning less than $300,000 from a $3 million budget. Despite this, it remains a fun watch. In this vein, we also revisit Return of the Living Dead II, an underappreciated sequel remembered for its iconic VHS cover art, which stands as a fine addition to the zombie genre. Today, we give these underlooked sequels the defense they deserve.

I grew up with Return of the Living Dead 2 a bit more than the original. The Suburban Motley Crue was pretty cool, and the finale at the power plant was awesome. I remember my mom ordering the t-shirt that was featured on the VHS promo.
Yeah, my favorite is the first one. But I really like the second too. And I saw it the theater when it came out and had a great time. Michael Jackson zombie in the power plant was a crack up. Getting the t-shirt from the vhs promo would have been awesome but I never got it. I bought the vhs many years ago in excellent condition. It’s one of my prized possessions. “It’s going to be wild tonight!"🧟♂️
For me, it was the first time I encountered a spoof / parody that I didn't like. Everything was a slower, lazier rip-off of the original. I could probably take this as a high school production level stage riff but not as a real follow-on to the first. The poster is awesome though, and anything that has Thom Mathews in it is not entirely without merit.
RotLD Part 2 was one LF my childhood favorites.
I also had no idea that there was a Part 1. I thought the “Return” and “Part 2” were just redundant ways of indicating it as a sequel to NotLD. I didn’t see the original until sometime in my 20s. 😂

I really liked Return of the Living Dead 2. I watched it in theaters with my dad. The first one scared the hell out of me and by the time this came out, I was at the right age for it’s campy-ness.
I love Return of the living part II. I saw this as a double feature in Hollywood, I was 9yrs old. When there was nothing worth renting . This film was my go too. I bought a VHS copy a few month ago. The version that is streaming has a dialogue in the beginning which is not in the film. There are scenes that have been shortened and some of the soundtrack music has been removed.
Pumpkin Head II was great, a fun watch when I was a kid. Swamp Thing was too campy, I could never get into it. But... Return of the Living Dead II was simply amazing, it was a must watch in my house growing up. To this day, it plays every once and a while just to bring back the camp... Thanks for the video...
Never watched Swamp Thing, or maybe I have, honestly I don't remember but I do remember and love Pumpkinhead ll and ROTLD 1&2. I remember every weekend for years when Hollywood Video and Blockbuster were a thing, the horror section was my go to, thats where I saw most of the movies I know and still love today. I'm happy to see Pumpkinhead finally get some love. Thank you 😊

The Return of Swamp Thing and Pumpkinhead II: Bloodwings were constant VHS watches in my home growing up. I sincerely love both movies and will not stand for anyone talking poorly of them. Also, just a little trivia bit that wasn't mentioned in the Bloodwings segment..."Mayor Bubba" is played by Roger Clinton, the real-life younger half-brother of President Bill Clinton.
OMG. Deadly Friend is one of those movies I watched 20 times as a kid and haven’t seen in 30 years. A memory of her throwing a basketball and smashing that woman’s head is one of my oldest memories.
But I couldn’t ever remember what that movies was called in forever now. I for some reason was in love with that girl in the movie and always got sad when she turns into a killer robot, or whatever it is she becomes I can’t fully remember.
But just that small reference brought back so many memories of that dumb movie lol. Holy crap you unlocked some hidden clouded part of my brain with that 3 second reference to Deadly Friend!

Return sequels aren't as good as the first, but still somehow watchable.
I liked some of Jeff Burr (RIP) films...such as Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Stepfather II: Make Room For Daddy, From A Whisper To A Scream, Night Of The Scarecrow, Straight Into Darkness, Devil's Den, Puppet Master 4: The Demon, Puppet Master 5: The Final Chapter and of course Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings.
I like some of Jim Wynorski films...such as Chopping Mall, Deathstalker II, Transylvania Twist, Sorority House Massacre II, Hard To Die: Sorority House Massacre III, The Lost Empire, 976-Evil 2: The Astral Factor, Not Of This Earth and of course The Return Of Swamp Thing.
I liked some of Ken Wiederhorn films & episodes...such as Meatballs II, Eyes Of A Stranger, A House In The Hills, various episodes of Freddy Nightmares & 21 Jumpstreet and of course Return Of The Living Dead Part II.

Recently let my co-worker borrow my Blu Ray copies of Return of the Living Dead Parts 1 & 2. He ended up liking part 2 more. Though he suspected that most people would favor part 1. I too watched both movies as a kid and I love them both. Yes Linnea Quigley got naked, but I could watch a movie focused on Marsha Dietlein's butt in that aerobics outfit.
Never seen the Pumpkinhead movies. Hardly remember Swamp Thing. Though Swamp Thing's suit in the second one is the one I remember. I think it looks better.
All three of these movies are just a fun ride sure maybe not as well done as there first film but are just fun rides to go on return of the living dead part 2 and return of the swamp thing are on Tubi pumpkin head 2 how ever going to have track it down great video 👍👍👍

Return of Swamp Thing was much better. It had more fights, a great atmosphere, and a better looking Swamp Thing suit.
I Have All Five Return Of The Living Dead Movies On DVD. The First, Second And Third Installment Are Very Very Good But The Fourth And Fifth Return Movies Became A Joke. Lance is the best narrator at Jo Blo, the passion in his voice is awesome, you can tell he loves the movies he talks about, he's not just there to earn a pay cheque. Not that the others are bad, just saying he's the best :)
ROTLD II - Still a favorite of mine. It’s silly & dumb & ruined completely by the writers and directors but I still love it because I loved the 1st ROTLD.
I had this on VHS too and I’d watch it constantly.

I seen both films as a 7/8 y.o around 90/91. Loved them both....part 1 is 🐐 imo but I also love part 2... nostalgia I guess but I've seen way worse sequels in my day 😂
I consider Línea Quigley’s performance in the original ROTLD to actually be a somewhat strong feminist position. Yes she spends most of the film nude, but it’s intially by her choice and as a zombie her look is iconic. She is infusing her sexuality with the rebellious punk movement of the time. During the conservative Reagan 80s, most of the popular scream queens were extra virginal and wearing neck high blouses or long skirts. “Trash” was definitely a statement for repressed female sexuality.
I happen to be gay and I love her performances. Many female horror fans also love her highly sexual performances and she owns it.
Oh and btw, I enjoy Part II as a camp extra story, as well.

Yes he was as the zombie wearing The Michael Jackson Thriller outfit. Which is a hideous replica.
He is actually almost EVERY zombie that gets a closeup. The MJ one at the end is the most obvious. But a less obvious example is the old Lady zombie that puts on her eyeglasses after crawling from the grave. They point most of them out in the commentary and in the Making Of book about the entire series.
The first pumpkinhead is great. The others NO!

Is Swamp Thing 2 cheesy? Yes, it is. Do I like narrators asking and then answering their own questions? No, I don't.
