Same way I feel about Dewey in Scream 5 , when it was revealed that a 70 pound waif, frail bones, took him out making the whole scene a joke in retrospect. Frail bones was eating those punches and going toe to toe like it was nothing. One hit and frail bones would have folded. It was the OOH LET'S KILL the Legacy character for dramatic impact, and find the cheapest way to do it. The reveal ruined it. dumb. And delusional Scream fans still think that was a great send off! Bye dorks!
The first kill was definitely my favorite. My biggest complaint about this movie is how much damage Leatherface took in this movie and how intelligent he is. Leatherface is essentially a normal big guy who has the mind of an 8 year old, he's not supernatural at all nor does he lay traps for victims. 5 rounds of buckshot, a knife to the gut and a chainsaw to the face yet he still walks away like nothing happened!
@@guiilty368 exactly, he shouldn't be supernatural. Leatherface isn't Michael Myers or Jason, his terror is in the reality of the sawyer family- not his unstoppable nature.
Yeah, I was fine with leatherface being intelligent when it came to killing. I mean this is an older leatherface who's been doing it for years. And while yeah he basically is mentally a kid still means he can learn. The supernatural stuff tho was kinda iffy. Like he got hurt from a little metal object, and almost got beaten by a dude even when he got the jump, to a full on immuned to bullets.
the fact that they shot this man like 5 times, stabbed him, hit him with his own chainsaw AND drowned him and he still got back up off screen for the ending scene was beyond ridiculous and stinks of 'we wanna make a sequel'
Yeah, but even the original movies showed him to be immortal. The sequel from 1986 had him get a chainsaw right through the torso and spine with his stomach ripped open and he was still on his feet. The third movie had him get bashed in the head eleven times with a rock (at least in the unrated version) and seemingly drown in a river and still popped up at the end good as new. So what they did here is nothing new.
it's like michael myers. i like halloween, but i am not a massive fan. michael myers is a good character, but he is the only one who should be "allowed" to come back over and over again.
@@mssainttropez Well anyone supernatural should be able to do that. Leatherface was kind of forced into it after the original movie and it just looks ridiculous because he really is just an ordinary man.
What's even stupider is they're talking about cancelling (if I never hear that word again it'll be too soon) him like he's someone famous. You're going to "cancel" a random hillbilly in bumfuck Texas? Uhhhh ok? That'll sure hurt his album sales I guess.
I never wanted people to die more in my life, And that was the entire problem with this movie. Nobody in it was an actual person. They might as well have been wearing big red X's on their backs. The gore was good and totally wasted!
@@Horrorlover1978 That is true, But you care about her and her friends. You feel bad for the girl who gets hung on a hook. In this remake I hated everybody I was cheering for them to fall down the stairs much less get chopped up by a chainsaw.
why did sally wait 50 years to kill him when he wasn’t even hiding and apparently was in the same damn house…. the whole buying chainsaw merch at the gas station killed the entire vibe for me
Omg when I saw that first scene I thought it was taking the meta route. Like TCM was a movie in this world like scream lmao. Thankfully they didn’t do that tho
Just saw this today. Sticking point with me is they keep on repeating how she’s been hunting him for 50 years. Then she finds him and not only doesn’t take the shot when she has him at point blank, but let’s him walk right out of the room with his chainsaw???
The two leads were insufferable, did not care about them at all - DID care about the hot cowboy would-be hero, he had the most personality for sure. Thoroughly enjoyed watching Tesla-driving "influencers" get sliced in half. Overall I did enjoy this for what it is. Plenty of gore and "bitch get out the room!!!" energy.
@@kikichucktown The reason I asked is because I thought you might be interested in knowing the "hot cowboy would-be hero" is the same guy that played King Aethelwulf on Vikings. You seemed to be a fan, lol.
Agreed...I cared nothing for the leads in this movie...I did like seeing Jason...um...I mean Leatherface wade his way though a bus load of influencers....that was hilarious.
I thought the movie was pretty great, until the last ~20 minutes. Here's why: Sally making it to Harlow and the decisions she made (or actually, DIDN'T make), and the fact that they made Leatherface into this above human being like Michael and Jason... Also, how does a human (Sally) survive a chainsaw straight through her body and has the energy to shoot a gun 10 minutes later???? WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST SHOOT LEATHERFACE IN HIS ROOM WHEN SHE HAD THE CHANCE TOO
The Sally character was the one clear aspect of the movie I disliked. There was not enough development for an iconic character in this franchise. What the filmmakers were going for in that scene I think was that she was so shocked that LF had no memory of what he did to her and her friends. She was angry/confused at that and wanted dialogue with him.
I loved the scene where one of the sisters is trying to go down the stairs, and she decides to jump from the 1st floor into the lower section of the stairs - and then the camera went up to reveal leatherface at the top, with his clothes still swinging from the movement. Also loved the attention to detail - in one scene they film a close up of the chainsaw, and it's vibrations make the little pieces of glass from the car window crumble.
I agree the story might not have been amazing for this one but you gotta admit the gore and the small little details they added are pretty cool apparently they even got to use one of the original chainsaws used from the original in this too. Personally I feel TCM2022 feels more like a sequal to Texas Chainsaw 3D or its own storyline on its own. You could say the reason Leatherface took his mothers face is because 50 years later this is Alexandira Daddarios character as Leatherfaces new caretaker whom tried to wean Leatherface out of his old ways by turning their mansion into an orphanage which would explain why the old lady in 2022 kep saying she had the deed to the house (cause she does and did) and its the emotional attachment for leatherface when Alexandira Daddarios character died he snapped again and took her face so they could always be together even after she died cause the only one who truly loved leatherface was Alexandria Daddario, she even helped free him and kill the man that wronged their family.
@@midnightprodigy4724 I actually thought the old lady at the orphanage was Alexandra Daddario's character from that movie. Idk if that's her but in my world that is the oficial canon.
I totally called the "killer comes back in the end" twist and yet it still somehow shocked me. Just how absolutely bonkers it was. The one girl just slowly being driven away as she screams bloody murder lol
The original TCM is still the scariest movie I've ever seen, and what blows me away about it is how little gore there actually is. The terror comes from the fact that anyone could've stumbled into that situation, and that we were watching something it feels like we shouldn't be because of how horrifying it is. This new one put so much emphasis on the blood and gore that I, a horror fan who gets scared when my fridge makes a random sound at 1 a.m., barely felt any tension or fear the entire time. I know the sequels included a lot more blood and stuff, but I think this new one especially just kind of ignored what made the original so scary. (Also Sally Hardesty didn't jump out a window three times and survive 24 hours of hell on earth for this film to disrespect her like this!!) I thought the actors did a good job with what they were given but not having Leatherface have a family to bounce off of also weakened this imo. Thanks for another great video Sarah! ❤️
Great points! Not much tension and much disrespect to the original Sally. Also why the heck was that girl under the bed for 10 minutes? She could have run out during the fight. And why , oh way didn’t Sally just shoot him when they were in the house!
Gen-Xer Old Gal here, remembering the 80s, when I had to deal with twenty questions and then still be told that I "wasn't a horror fan". Since then, I think anyone who likes some type of horror is a horror fan. And not liking (or experiencing) every single thing doesn't revoke your card. I was disappointed in this new TCM, but I did think it was absolutely gorgeous to look at, and that gore was * chef's kiss *. You liked it? Awesomeness! You didn't? Yeah, I get it. But we're all in this together y'all. And everyone's opinion is valid, because horror, like any other art form, is subjective. 🤘🏾💗
@@BLDRTS it’s funny because for some people they want more plot and character development and then for others they just want the kills and the classic slasher approach where you just kill em off asap
I'll be honest - I'm really sad with this TCM film. I have a couple thoughts as to why (Just my opinion of course! I loved your takes on the film!) 1 - Everyone was wayyyy too dumb. I get it, it's part of the genre - but the OG was so scary because you could see yourself in the characters at times. There was a lot of "Well what else would you do?" in the OG. There were some funny, campy moments like when the people in the bus pulled out their phones - but for nobody to really try to fight back and just be content with getting slaughtered was a bit much for me. One of the sisters stays under the bed for what felt like half of the film as well. Hardesty's entire character was frustratingly dim as well. The only smart character felt like Leatherface... the one who is supposed to NOT be. 2 - Hardesty... just... why they do my girl like that? She's just been brooding in a crappy house in Texas? Gets a call from the shop owner, who calls... just her? She ignores the police radio when she finds the van? She makes the sisters stay in her car while she goes to... yell at Leatherface? Then he walks out and she lets him? Like what even was happening with her character. So many of the characters were super half-baked - but her especially - disrespectful imho. 3 - There were some great opportunities and moments - but poor writing really was the most impressive kill in the whole film. The bus scene was admittedly a clever idea (Outside of the bank lady not telling anybody that someone was straight up murdered). It just felt like, maybe a couple more people escaping or fighting back would've taken it to another level. Unnamed blonde victim #1 endured a tonnn of terror just to be cut with glass. Wasted that sunflower setting a bit imho. Overall, really disappointing to me - in just the fact that it was written so haphazardly for such an iconic franchise. Maybe I'm not the target audience - I understand why folks would love it - just not for me. I'm really missing intelligent writing in slasher films lately. Enough to come here and post my own rant. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in this video though! Great analysis. ^.^
Your review was spot on. If this was 50 yrs later, wouldn’t Leatherface be 70 yrs old or close to it? I enjoyed most of the kills but hated the storyline
Yeah, I found that strange. Leatherface should be 70-90 years old in this movie, and is moving around like he's in his 20s. Not only that, but he was superhuman in this movie too.
Was it supposed to be the original leatherface? I spent the movie assuming it was his offspring and had the same tendencies because he certainly wasn't much younger than the people he killed in the first one but pre-mask he looked way younger than Sally and was moving around way better than her
@@SimonWakefieldUK You know, that actually makes more sense if it was just the original Leatherface's kid. Going off of TCM 3, it wouldn't be the first time he had a child.
The first half of the movie was decent enough to hold my interest, but once the second half hit it turned my interest completely down. The actions by all these characters had me laughing and rooting for leatherface which should never happen.
The first half was decent... you mean all that woke BS lol.. And the way they portrayed the mechanic being an " typical open carry white guy " he's got his big truck polluting the air.. His AR-15 just laying on his workbench. And THEN they actually had him unholster his pistol and then chamber a round... if he truly EDC then there would have been a round in the chamber already
@pmerk25 it is a shame the movie was so bad it ended up forsaking what makes the original good then. You aren't meant to root for Bubba or the Sawyers. Also kinda worried the political alignment of the characters made you want them to die more? I guess they must have been really annoying.
It kind of reminded me of that American Horror Stories episode with Santa and the influencers in that right away they make almost all the characters so unlikable that you are instantly against them and never do enough to bring you back around to them. A horror movie can have someone unlikable but if you do that you have to balance it out with characters you almost instantly like and care for and it doesn't do that
My experience was being super on board after the first kill and then being completely lost after the bus scene. I think the problem was that they took out some elements that made the original so good (which is totally fine) but didn't replace them with anything interesting. I think the Halloween and Evil Dead requels remain the top contenders for me
gosh why do i always forget about that awesome Evil Dead remake. I remember expecting it to be bad and being totally blown away. that one and the 2003 TCM are my 2 fav horror remakes
Why did every single character in this movie choose to make the absolute worst decision they could make? 🙄 I hate when horror movies makes the people we're supposed to root for the absolute dumbest people on the planet. They all choose terrible decisions over and over again like it kills the whole movie for me. The sister especially when Sally locked them in the car because they "needed" to be there. Like why? Lmao girl if you want to die that's cool but give me the damn keys so I can get tf out here and when she finally does get the keys and her sister is with her she's like "oh I have a brilliant idea, let me run him over" girl wtf no! Gtfo there holy crap!!!
I think they included the school shooting plot to try to appear to be deeper. Instead of just Leatherface cutting everyone up, they wanted to seem like they were tackling socio-political issues. Maybe it was an attempt to get some sympathy and favor from critics and audiences who would otherwise say it’s just a dumb movie? It didn’t seem to work.
It didn't work cause they didn't let Richter and the school shooting survivor girl bond any further than the scene in the garage. That was the part where we COULD'VE started to care about that girl, they're talking, she sees his AR rifle, and she reveals to him how she was in a school shooting, and Richter has a genuine reaction. The movie never let them bond and share views further than that, that one part had potential and they blew it.
Sally could never have had the polaroid she keeps with her. The Hitchhiker took the picture, set it on fire, wrapped it in tin foil and ran away with it. My expectations were dissolved when I realized the filmmakers hadn't even bothered to pay attention to details like that.
HOLY COW THANK YOU! I’ve been waiting for someone to touch this topic, because I feel like many channels are just glossing over it. This has been happening with dozens of franchises, and it’s exhausting. You’re allowed to like movies, you’re allowed to dislike them. It’s only when people try to challenge your opinion and act like theirs is the superior opinion when it gets convoluted and annoying.
Agree. I'm used to downer endings jumping out at the last possible moment, but that one felt darkly comedic, and I'm not sure if it was supposed to be.
@@theirishpotato6588 exactly like right? man like it felt somehow laughable like just given the context and all. I was shocked at first but then all I could do was laugh. Props to the cast tho. I don’t know a horror movie ending that made me laugh like that in a while
@@thehitherto5348 sorry I missed urs but I was trying to reply to u as well but it felt like the ending of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 the one from 1986 on the dark comedy. It was all cool tho yeah
The way he just....bobbed the head up and down as if he was teasing the girl. It was cruel AF. But also hilarious. Honestly for such a shitty movie, a truly iconic ending.
I gave it a 3/10. The gore was good. Cinematography was wonderful. Leatherface was brutal. I didn’t enjoy anything else. But I am so happy for those who did. The tropes got old. Very fast.
@@sunnychoudhary1323 also don’t do that. Do not try to tell someone what they do or don’t like when they have blatantly said they do not like it. It comes across very pretentious.
The only thing besides the kills that I liked was how scary they made Leatherface. Not the like "able to survive being shot and chainsawed" part, but I've always thought he was physically scarier than Jason or Michael. We're conditioned in the slasher genre to see these giants slowly and ominously walk at their victims, so every time Leatherface full on barrels at victims in a full sprint, I almost shit myself. I've always thought the way he moved was more scary than the other slasher killers.
100% agree. Funny thing is, my expectations were already low just for the sole fact it was going straight to Netflix, and it was still worse than I thought. Don't get me wrong, there was quite a bit I liked about it, but overall, I thought the movie was a letdown. My main criticisms are: - Almost non of the younger characters are likeable (except for Lilah, she's the only one it feels like they gave any depth to). - The political message is about as subtle as a jackhammer (I get the original also had a political message, but that one was more nuanced). - It feels like Sally as a character was disrespected and treated like an idiot before they decide to kill her off (which is starting to feel like a trend in these horror movie reboots. Ironically, it was Star Wars that really kicked this whole thing off). I dunno. It feels like there's a good movie in here somewhere, but it's overshadowed by a bunch of other crap. Side note, going back to what I said earlier, am I the only one who has noticed this trend in horror movies, where they bring back legacy characters just to kill them off? It really is funny that this all started with the Star Wars sequels, since those aren't horror movies, yet Texas Chainsaw, Halloween, Scream, and other recent horror films seem to do this the most. Hell, they also like to throw in the "subverting expectations" twist that The Last Jedi popularized, where the main character finds out they're not the center of the story. Kylo Ren told Rey she's a nobody (which they retconned in the next film), Laurie Strode was told Michael was never after her, and now, Sally Hardesty finds out that Leatherface doesn't even remember her. Weird, ain't it?
You mean the black man taking down the confederate flag isn't nuanced? Too on the nose maybe? Lol. I hate when they inject modern politics into movies that absolutely don't need it.
I finished this movie with my boyfriend, immediately looked over at him, and said “I cant wait for Sarah to review this, I just KNOW we’re going to feel the same.” 💀
When I watched the 2003 and 2006 version, I wanted some of the characters to survive, and I felt bad when leather face gets to them...but this one I was rooting for leather face, I wanted him to end these meaningless idiotic characters...
i love when people wake up and see through people's toxic attitudes. Don't let people tell you what you like or dislike, be yourself, most people havn't had an original opinion since social media came out haha. just discovered and subscribed to you, now imma binge yo shit. peace.
I totally agree, the original is one of my favorite movies of all time so when I went in to this movie my expectations were low, in hell. I did actually end up enjoying it and then on twitter and everything I understand why people didn’t enjoy it, but I don’t understand why you are attacked whether you love the movie or hate it. No one is allowed to have an opinion and it’s so frustrating.
You can almost count how many words Sally had at the movie, and i bet that is less than 14.. Horrible, dumb characters, dumb plots, Sally was ridiculous the character didn't deserve this. The movie is fun, with it was just the teens dying etc, bringing and old character back to just didn't add anything only mess up the history lol, and this time, i was totally cheering for Leatherface, the protagonists are so bad, except the shooting girl, but tbh she is only this, i just watched and didn't even remember her name lmao, not memorable at all. The guy at the garage was the only character that i actually care, and the only one that I feel bad for.
Felt like I was in a cheaply made carnival ride that was TCM-themed. It was still a fun ride but you know that everything was processed and inauthentic.
Totally agree with your rant! People need to just get off their high horse about having differing opinions in movies. I hateeee found footage horror movies yet I will listen to all your reviews with a smile on my face.
As a school shooting survivor myself, the way they just randomly sprung it on us that one girl was a victim of one straight up sent me into a panic attack. It was horrible and felt like it was used solely for shock factor. Completely disrespectful and I’m more than sure that none of the people involved on this film have ever been through what me and so many others have been through and still suffer because of. Totally tone deaf and insensitive. We did not need to see that poor girl laying in a puddle of blood surrounded by other dead students. Hell, they could have even had that and kept it implied by just showing us her scar. Horror is supposed to be an escape, not a reminder. I can’t even enjoy horror movies now without my real life trauma coming back up. The beauty of the genre is that the killers are so outlandish that they’re clearly fake and a metaphor. Cannibals with chainsaws from Texas or zombie Jason or inhuman Michael Myers aren’t real and we can put our fears into them. This movie genuinely made me so upset and disappointed. If they don’t want us to take it so seriously, maybe this movie shouldn’t have tried to throw so many flimsy themes about social issues at us and shouldn’t have handled them so poorly.
@@Horrorlover1978 there is a difference. Going in they would know what was coming. The movie is very clear what it’s about, this however was used as the commenter described. Shock factor.
@@Horrorlover1978 The Fallout isn't a horror movie...it's a drama that is specifically telling a story/social commentary. Not comparable in the slightest other than they're both movies.
I personally didn't think it was played for shock value. But...I also think therein lies the problem. Because the more that media portrays this sort of very real world tragedy in such throwaway or underdeveloped narratives...the more desensitized we become to it. And maybe even forget that it IS a very, very real issue here in the US. I'm so sorry for what you went through and I truly do hope you've been able to find some level of healing. ❤🙏
You made great points about gatekeeping in horror, thank you for having that discussion! I get so tired of fans being militant in what we're 'supposed' to like and dislike
If you don't care about the characters and you just came for the massacre, it delivers I guess. I guess one positive I can say is that it wasn't "Hey remember this? Remember that?", just tiny moments here and there. This was more Halloween kills and just 10 mins for H 2018. They should have done a twist where the mechanic guy was the hero. Just a normal guy minding his own business and now he is stuck in this situation because of these dumb characters. So he has survive and get out of there. Oh well, let this franchise just rip.
The mechanic looked like he was going to be an interesting character, a flawed hero, he has to save these idiots even though he resents them, because he has the fortitude and skills that they don't. He respects the school shooting girl for what she has been through, we get a set-up that maybe they will bond over both having trauma in their past - maybe they will be the only two who survive because the world has hurt them before and toughened them up.....AND THEN HE JUST DOES NOTHING AND DIES.
so many things this movie could’ve done and it would’ve made it great but we got what we got ig. i knew this movie was gonna lack severely but the massacre was great. leatherface as a killer kills everyone except the final girl which is great bc he’s a sufficient killer and human enough for it to be believable but yeah
@@shawnwbronx Even up to his death - he was still fighting and trying to give the keys to the girl. He was my favorite character too. I have no problem killing him off, but they killed him off too early lol Lots of wasted potential.
@@shawnwbronx I actually found him to be just as obnoxious as Melody. His character was just written to be the exact opposite of Melody (rewatch the movie if you can, cause lord knows i can't sit through it one more time, and notice how he's the exact opposite of her) It's just obnoxious, the entire movie is.
I really like how I feel this film contains a massacre for the first time. It's always felt more like Texas Chainsaw Killing Spree than a massacre but that bus scene was a MASSACRE and I loved it.
I was actually looking forward to this new movie, but left scratching my head and wanting more. After the first cop kill I was like oh yes this is what I signed up for. When I say Sally was coming back I was even more on board and expecting a Halloween 2018 showdown. But with the out of nowhere death I was like what was the point of her even being there. The main hipster sister who's name I've completely forgotten was honestly the character I was lime how am I supposed to root for her. The final scene I knew what was going to happen but how it happened I was like why, the younger sister could have gotten out of the car it was going 5 miles and hour. The timeline of leather face was even confusing. It started off saying it was a true story an I believed him to be in his 30s or so so then when the orphanage storyline happened I was left wondering are there two different leather faces? Which would explain his first run into Sally where he completely ignored her I was thinking it is a different leatherface.
@@bunnylations The irony is that Sally in the first movie was younger than Leatherface and yet in this movie she's older and he's younger?? even though it's supposed to be a continuation of the first movie?? That really bothered me :/
Could not agree more with your beginning rant! On point 100%! The dead sunflower field was SO beautiful the cinematography was also my favorite thing. I personally think that in this installment leather face looked exactly like Harold from scary stories to tell in the dark. I thought he looked very creepy but nothing like leather face which completely took me out of the film & made me feel like I was watching Harold with a chainsaw lol
I showed the trailer to my wife -- who is in no way a horror fan or even that knowledgeable about horror in general. Her reaction -- "This just looks really bad." Enough of a reason for me to steer clear. EDIT: Imagine if all the money and effort being thrown at these reboots and remakes were instead re-directed at new properties. New experiences. New stories. Stuff we haven't seen/heard before. Imagine that. I loved the original Halloween and the first few sequels but these new movies have extended the original premise well past the point of credulity. It's time to let them go. There's nothing left in the tank -- empty. Same with Chain Saw. My favorite 80's horror franchise was the Elm Street franchise but I'm perfectly content to never see another Elm Street movie. It's over. Nowhere else to go with it. Nothing will ever match the sheer joy (or terror) of discovery of that first movie. That story is over. Tell a new one.
I watched it with a couple friends and the entire time we were like HUH? I did not like the older sister whatsoever and like honestly everything she did I was on the other peoples side. Like the beginning when she antagonized Richter and then she started calling him an ahole and stuff I was so confused. I will say though the kills and gore were really great I really enjoyed that part of it and the chases and everything I thought were alright and I can see why people liked it. It just made me so mad throughout so much of it. I will say the very last scene had me literally rolling on my bed for two minutes hysterically laughing though. I feel like the pitch for it was just "Lets make a new Texas Chainsaw" instead of "Hey I have a great story for a possible new Texas Chainsaw."
I liked the older sister from about the time they got to the town up until the final fight. She felt like a real person during that part. Outside of that characterizations were garbage
I love your rants so much lol it doesn't matter if I've seen the movie or not or even care about it you're just so entertaining.. and relatable because I too get so annoyed at this stuff... to watch
I was completely entertained by this movie, but you're totally right that there is nothing wrong with either liking or disliking a movie! 😁 I happened to like it, but I have no judgment for folks who don't. ❤
Your rant was spot on! It’s actually funny because I see this same issue in the sims community. I’m a huge sims player and a lot of the time I’m pretty critical of the sims 4 whenever I have something to say about it. EA super fans always say to be grateful or appreciate the content that’s being put out… but it’s content that people PAY for. I expect a massive company like EA to produce DLC that’s worth the price!
It felt a lot like Halloween Kills. Old killer comes back, is basically invulnerable, good characters accidentally kill each other, fights the early protagonist, and has a fake-out death at the end. Also, cool to see The Troop and The Only Good Indians in your background! Edit: Looks like you already took the words out of my mouth at 20:04
I think that the horror 'community' (fandom, kingdom of the fanatics) is quite a fractious zone. These kinds of 'how can you say you love horror if...' guardians of the horror galaxy are basically the same bunch saying the exhausting 'that's not horror' wheeze that's been prevalent for the last 20 years. I just ignore them all. Their opinions simply don't have any weight behind them. Nothing happens in reality if you simply turn them off. Thanks for the rant Sarah.
What I like about the first 2 is that it made my skin crawl. Even now when I try to rewatch them,it still gives me the creeps. It seems now they're focusing more on blood and gore for the quick thrill to make up for the lack of substance. There are those that are into that and I get it.
After all these years The original is still so damn disturbing to watch This movie was just trash. Abunch of woke BS scattered throughout. Blood and gore don't make a good movie.. Highly disappointed in this movie
YES. THANK YOU. There has been such a large amount of people like that within the last few years, across all genres but ESPECIALLY the horror genre, that demonize and shit on people for not liking a movie… the whole “you should be grateful we even got a movie!” is such a bad mindset to have imo. Great review and 100000% spot on
I watched this film with some trepidation, just because I remember being twelve when the 2003 remake came out and it scared the daylights out of me. But this, yeah, was pretty boring. Yes, very gory and as you said, great imagery, but overall I was bored. I didn't think it had near the same atmosphere or scare as the original or the remake.
I watched almost all of them recently. I think the original one is still top tier, but going back and rewatching the 2003 remake - I just couldn't get into it like I did the first time. I enjoyed this new one more than the 2003 remake even though the story was like the weakest part.
I will be watching this TCM tomorrow night, but thankfully Netlfix has my favorite TCM movie. The 2003 remake. So I will be watching the 03 remake sometime this week as well. I personally have enjoyed almost every TCM movie. Leatherface as a concept is my favorite movie killer. I don't think any other character compares. Michael Myers, Freddie, Jason, etc. just don't scare me like Bubba does. I also think the 03 remake was the first ever horror movie I watched which probably has something to do with my love for it. I was born in 98 so I didn't get around to horror movies until it came out and my mom bought it. Anyways I know were sick of the TCM remakes/prequels/sequels, but I can typically see them as a stand alone and separate it from the rest. Hopefully that makes it more enjoyable for me.
I’m sad that opinions about a movie have to be so judgemental. I love your videos and yet I don’t always share your opinion. I think that is part of the fun! I enjoy hearing a different opinion. Thanks for your rant! I honestly do appreciate it!
This was actually my least favourite TCM. This did not feel like a Texas Chainsaw Massacre to me. I was really excited to see Fede Alvarez writing this movie because he did amazing on the Evil Dead reboot (it’s one of my favourite movies), but this was absolutely horrible. I also thought the gore started off great but it kind of got really weird. Chainsaws are NOT knives, but it was slicing like a knife. Also, I disliked every single character in that movie. The political statements were also really annoying and confusing, I couldn’t tell if it was anti-gun or pro-gun. IMO the fact that the original TCM has little to no gore but still made you feel this pure disgust and sickness. The cinematography was a big part of that too. The cinematographer did amazing in this movie, but it didn’t feel like TCM. I was excited to see Fede Alvarez and Leatherface, but I did see a lot of hate so I also wasn’t expecting much. I was still disappointed. Good review! (Also, I completely agree with your rant!)
@@Amoreline11 I was comparing it to the original since it’s a direct sequel. The original TCM has this grossness to it that isn’t achieved my shocking gore. The original is deprivating but had this personality that wasn’t achieved in any of the movies other than 2.
The movies are all so different. I like TCM 2 in the same way that I like Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, it's campy and fun. I liked the Netflix TCM 2022 in the same way that I like The Collector, Laid to Rest or Terrifier, modern brutality. I struggle to believe that anybody would like ALL of the truly lukewarm 2000s sequels more than this latest one.
@@doedarling1215 I was wondering if it was the other writer, but I’m pretty sure he was the giy who worked on Don’t Breathe, which is another good horror movie! I’m not really sure what happened, but all artists have lackluster works, so hopefully he has something beyter in store for us next time.
i really enjoyed this movie and its become a guilty pleasure and a comfort horror film for me, i dislike that they brought the final girl sally back in the movie, i really enjoy alot of the cinematography and the kills and amount of gore. I think it was a quite good time and i hope they make more tbh im a huge fan of texas chainsaw movies
I get it! lol! I really enjoyed this video, and your rant/review. And, I agree with you on the most part, I feel like Sally Hardesty's character was thrown in at the last minute, to coincide with the new Halloween movies. And is Sally living in their old house? Strange. Leatherface being silent for over 40 years, who knows what to expect. But, Alice Krige's character....amazing!!!! Thanks for another fun video and review.
Dear Sarah, I totally agree with you. I definitely love your movie reviews because your sincerity always makes them so relevant. Thanks so much for your great work as well as your great personality.
I feel this way about every Halloween movie ever. They just aren't for me. The thought of being labeled not a horror fan because of it is pretty funny 😄
Completely off topic - you mentioned about people who watch Saw movies for the plot. Hi! That's me :D Not counting Jigsaw or Spiral (as haven't seen them) but the Saw movies I go in not only for the traps but because I love the twists, no matter how ridiculous they are. Your rant was perfect! Thank you for addressing this. Gate keeping is everywhere! I am predominately into video games and the gate keeping is insane over there, but unfortunately it seems to be the same in every corner - gaming, movies, books etc. Just let people enjoy what they enjoy and people are allowed to absolutely love something, and still give valid criticism. That doesn't make them hate it, it just makes them aware of what they do and don't like in that area.
I agree with everything youre saying. Even though I really liked this movie, I’m tired of all the reboots/sequels. And this is my first time experiencing the judgement, its super confusing. Like you said, its gatekeeping. Its weird. We like what we like! Having different opinions is good.
I feel pretty neutral about the movie, I enjoyed it. The movie was kind of silly, they really played up the annoying millennials and the issues with gentrification. I didn’t like any of the main characters except the younger sister, I feel like the towns people were easier to side with. As most people have said I think the gore was pretty damn good the kills were great. I found the sympathizing of Leatherface odd but I still liked that it was an interesting take. Even though I’m not a huge fan of the series as a whole I still didn’t like what they did with Sally it felt underwhelming. However I still give it a solid 5/10 I did have a good time watching, it was made well technically speaking and that ending caught me off guard I’ll give them i audibly gasped. It’s definitely not the worst of the series either i think its better than some of the previous one *cough cough* 3D 😶
I really enjoyed this movie! I thought the cinematography was good, there were some great shots that had me gagged. The kills for me, while sometimes lacking in creativity, had a good shock factor to them, and the only thing I didn't like about them was the digital blood. It definitely pushed it a litttttle over the top in that area. For a franchise that is already so messy, I felt that this was one of the more entertaining ones for sure, at least in my opinion. I also watched it with friends, and reacting to the scares together definitely enhanced my experience. But I can see why people hated it, in the end it's just a matter of opinion (: much love, great video as always
YES!! literally everything you’ve said I agreed with. also bugged me that leather face didn’t make a kill with a chainsaw till halfway through the movie
One of the things that struck me was how the inciting event was the taking down of the Confederate Flag. It was as if doing that was a "bad" act that lead to all the death and destruction. Tie that with the messaging about guns, and it does seem to have quite a conservative messaging, which feels quite different to the original. Leatherface here is given motive.
GOD you are so right in the beginning about people being allowed to dislike things. The conversation I’ve seen around Scream 2022 is ridiculous, it’s like if you criticize the movie you’re “proving the movie right”. You can dislike things without being one of those crazy, annoying fans lol
This dichotomy in the fandom of either loving or loathing the new releases is kind of exhausting. The pressure to have a hot take about low-effort movies is kind of exhausting. Especially when fans are putting more passion into fighting each other over the thing than the filmmakers did when making it.
Unpopular opinion: I think Mel should have been the final girl instead of Lila. Mel was pretty smart, jumping over the banister to avoid the squeaky floorboards, tipping the mirror to let the cowboy know LF was behind the door, using the corkscrew to get out of the bus... I felt between the 2 she earned the right to live whereas Lila is just... there. She doesn't do much. I think they should have switched the ending so Lila died and Mel lived. Also, I like how deeply Mel was affected by the old woman's death, she had real guilt over it.
I watched the movie last night after having a ✨special gummy✨ & I have never laughed so much at a horror movie. BUT I didn't completely dislike it? I thought it was terrible & I did not like any of the characters including Leatherface, but I was entertained by how bad it was & enjoyed calling out all the flaws. Overall, I felt very detached from the movie being in the Texas franchise so really it just felt like I was watching a random campy slasher.
If a big studio release a movie, I have more expectation that a smaller Indie release, because the big studio has far more resources. That said, I often enjoy more Indie type releases, as there is more risk to do something new or different. The world will be much improved when people learn that there is much to be gained by spending time on the middle ground and looking at both sides of things or an argument being debated. I appreciate your effort with your review to do that.
It feels a lot more like a fanmade film than an official TCM movie to me. It feels dry and pretty uninteresting. The kills and cinematography were pretty good though imo
Agreed that the 1st kill was the best. Like you, I was really put off by the some of the social commentary choices and it almost felt like the filmmakers had mixed messages regarding influencers, school shooting survivors, gentrification and a not so great attempt at trying to own millennials and zennials when they kinda don't need that right now. A real missed opportunity here. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this!
Watched it last night and thought it was ok. The gore and violence was the best part, it’s also definitely ok to not like something or that it’s not for you. It’s about how you express that dislike.
@@SossaČesko Netflix didn't made it. So why don't you go back to your mother's basement. And yes, it was woke for sure. All the characters in movie were straight, they should have made a lead character lesbian, but no, let's go woke and force all characters to be straight.
@@SossaČesko how is it woke? I hate woke shit as well, but this isn’t woke. The characters are woke, but they’re portrayed as dickheads for the most part. I agree. We can all call ourselves horror fans (or fans of any genre) & be nice to each other regardless if we like or dislike a perticular movie. We can have discussions about movies rather than gatekeeping people or trying to start arguments w/ someone over their personal opinion of a movie

I really liked this movie! It had everything I want in a horror movie. Great gore, awesome kills and not too many boring moments. To me it was entertaining as hell and very rewatchable because of the lenght of the movie💯💯
The fact that they killed off Sally, a legacy character who had 2 minutes in the remake. Just straight up pisses me off
Her arc reminded me of Halloren in the Shining. Pointless but setup to potentially be more.
Well it made sense since the original actress who played Sally died in real life years ago. This Sally was a recast.
They should have never brought the characters back to begin with kinda pointless
Better than keeping her around for 25 more sequels like Jamie Lee Curtis. Ughhh
That’s pretty supernatural haha
And didn't he technically also drown?
@@guiilty368 exactly, he shouldn't be supernatural. Leatherface isn't Michael Myers or Jason, his terror is in the reality of the sawyer family- not his unstoppable nature.
I thought the same thing he was definitely smarter then the original , it’s equivalent to super fast zombies, I also hate

It stinks of Michael Myers and the writers treating us like we don't know other horror movies and them having zero creativity or imagination!
Leatherface was kind of forced into it after the original movie and it just looks ridiculous because he really is just an ordinary man.
every time a show or movie mentions someone or something being "cancelled" i feel my soul get sucked out of my body in the most negative way possible.
What's even stupider is they're talking about cancelling (if I never hear that word again it'll be too soon) him like he's someone famous. You're going to "cancel" a random hillbilly in bumfuck Texas? Uhhhh ok? That'll sure hurt his album sales I guess.
I understand you completely.
I agree, and I HATE cancel culture. Its just so cringe and something not most people even subscribe too. So why even put it in the movie?
I never wanted people to die more in my life, And that was the entire problem with this movie. Nobody in it was an actual person. They might as well have been wearing big red X's on their backs. The gore was good and totally wasted!
Exactly. And kills and gore alone don't make a good movie..
Look at halloween kills haha.
They shoved abunch of woke BS in this movie and I'm over it.
From the very first scene I wanted them all dead
The same could be said of the original. Like we don’t get to know anyone - not even Sally. She just runs and screams. Lol
@@Horrorlover1978 That is true, But you care about her and her friends. You feel bad for the girl who gets hung on a hook. In this remake I hated everybody I was cheering for them to fall down the stairs much less get chopped up by a chainsaw.
They were so comically awful that it would've worked as a satire but the movie lacked the self-awareness to fully realize that.
why did sally wait 50 years to kill him when he wasn’t even hiding and apparently was in the same damn house…. the whole buying chainsaw merch at the gas station killed the entire vibe for me
he wasn’t in the same house but it shouldn’t be hard to find him though
Omg when I saw that first scene I thought it was taking the meta route. Like TCM was a movie in this world like scream lmao. Thankfully they didn’t do that tho
Nah he was in a different part of town. Post credits he went back to the house.
it didn’t make any sense to me if that’s the way they wanted to go with it then why make him live in plain daylight with his mom? like wtf lol
It's even dumber when you've watched the Texas chainsaw massacre sequel from the 80's.
Did you ever watch the show Vikings that came on the History Channel?
@@ojmcclanahan689 I watched the first season and then sort of fell off - it was good.
Here's why:
Sally making it to Harlow and the decisions she made (or actually, DIDN'T make), and the fact that they made Leatherface into this above human being like Michael and Jason... Also, how does a human (Sally) survive a chainsaw straight through her body and has the energy to shoot a gun 10 minutes later???? WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST SHOOT LEATHERFACE IN HIS ROOM WHEN SHE HAD THE CHANCE TOO
Had the same thoughts, why didn’t she just shoot him 🤷♂️
The movie fell apart for me once Sally went after Leatherface.
The ending was predictable.
The Sally character was the one clear aspect of the movie I disliked. There was not enough development for an iconic character in this franchise. What the filmmakers were going for in that scene I think was that she was so shocked that LF had no memory of what he did to her and her friends. She was angry/confused at that and wanted dialogue with him.
cuz the writers sucks, they don't wanna make an satisfying end, they just wanna make another way to exploit this franchise more.
So tired of this new trope
That’s one of my favorite scenes, I think he threw a hammer at her which was hilarious.

“This is the moment where the supposedly dead killer comes back for one more scare”
Yep I called it too. Right as they got in the car and didn't floor it outta dodge; said to myself.. well they're dead
@@StephanieHall2672 if they really wanted to kill off Sally they shouldn’t have included the scene where she finds him in the house.
Yes every time he almost killed or was about to kill somebody I never felt tension even when the sister was under the house no tension

The reason that movie worked is because the acting was so terrible, it wound up feeling more real because of it
Gen-Xer Old Gal here, remembering the 80s, when I had to deal with twenty questions and then still be told that I "wasn't a horror fan". 🤘🏾💗

The special effects were pretty great.
But a little too much digital effects instead of practical.
The movie was also shot well and looked really good.
@@BLDRTS it’s funny because for some people they want more plot and character development and then for others they just want the kills and the classic slasher approach where you just kill em off asap
I'll be honest - I'm really sad with this TCM film. I have a couple thoughts as to why (Just my opinion of course! I loved your takes on the film!)
1 - Everyone was wayyyy too dumb.

@Joseph Amoraz “Woke bs” lol so whiney. I thought they balanced it well, he turned out to be a decent guy. Did you miss that part? Lol
I want Leather Face to win too.

If they didn't want people to cringe at their dumb movie, that bus scene would not have happened lol.

We're conditioned in the slasher genre to see these giants slowly and ominously walk at their victims, so every time Leatherface full on barrels at victims in a full sprint, I almost shit myself. I've always thought the way he moved was more scary than the other slasher killers.
@Jeremy Horne thats why excluded that bit. I'm only referring to the idea of a giant lumbering, sprinting slasher villain versus a slow walker.
100% agree. Funny thing is, my expectations were already low just for the sole fact it was going straight to Netflix, and it was still worse than I thought. Don't get me wrong, there was quite a bit I liked about it, but overall, I thought the movie was a letdown.
My main criticisms are:
- Almost non of the younger characters are likeable (except for Lilah, she's the only one it feels like they gave any depth to).
@@jimthar17 I don’t understand if you were trying to have a gotcha moment or something, since we’re in agreement.
I finished this movie with my boyfriend, immediately looked over at him, and said “I cant wait for Sarah to review this, I just KNOW we’re going to feel the same.” 💀
Same lol 😂😂
I swear that's exactly how I felt 💞
The way people act in response to films/TV/games etc, fandoms are cults. It's crazy.
When I watched the 2003 and 2006 version, I wanted some of the characters to survive, and I felt bad when leather face gets to them...but this one I was rooting for leather face, I wanted him to end these meaningless idiotic characters...
I feel like the 2003 and 2006 films were the closest to the original in terms of horror and tension.
Why so much hate for the characters? Both the girls were quite likable.
Those two are my favorites in the entire series.
@@sunnychoudhary1323 Nope lol, neither of them were
i love when people wake up and see through people's toxic attitudes.
Lila was a good character as well.
Felt like I was in a cheaply made carnival ride that was TCM-themed. It was still a fun ride but you know that everything was processed and inauthentic.
Are TCM meant to have big budgets? The first one was made for nickels.
@@chrissweet6369 I was pertaining to the whole atmosphere of the movie. It was not it.
Well, don’t watch The Fallout then 😬
@@Horrorlover1978 there is a difference.
@@Horrorlover1978 can you be anymore insensitive?
He was the only likable character in the movie. When he got butchered it was time to cheer for Leatherface.
so many things this movie could’ve done and it would’ve made it great but we got what we got ig. i knew this movie was gonna lack severely but the massacre was great. leatherface as a killer kills everyone except the final girl which is great bc he’s a sufficient killer and human enough for it to be believable but yeah
Yeah the question about his age really bothered me too. He should be late 70s at least by now...
The social justice agenda is STRONG in just about everything you watch these days!!!🙄
This is why i like jordan peele and A24
Thank you for your continued rants against gatekeepers. Sad that it is so necessary, but it continues to be so
I watched it with a couple friends and the entire time we were like HUH?
“No one watches Saw for the plot.”
Me: 😶😶
Your rant was spot on!
Edit: Looks like you already took the words out of my mouth at 20:04
Honestly, deleting Twitter was the best thing I've ever done. The constant negativity on both sides of every argument was really taking a toll on me.
Deleting my Twitter is one of the best things I've done for myself in the last couple of years.
I've always said Twitter is very very toxic. It's awful.
#facts I deleted mine years ago!!
Wise move.
After all these years The original is still so damn disturbing to watch
This movie was just trash. Abunch of woke BS scattered throughout. Blood and gore don't make a good movie..
Highly disappointed in this movie
How was it “woke” lmoa
YES.
Man I died laughing through the whole movie. All the way to the point that I was crying laughing.
me during the rant:
Sarah, you're doing amazing sweetie🥰
i spit my drink out at the gabbie hannah comment. was not expecting that from you 😂😂
I will be watching this TCM tomorrow night, but thankfully Netlfix has my favorite TCM movie.
I think it’s really nice when we listen to other’s opinions despite ours being different ❤️
Yes!
Loved the gore and kills, enjoyable film but that ending LMFAOOO had me rollin 🤣🤣🤣
ur hair looks so pretty in this video - but the second i watched this movie i was extremely excited to watch u tear it apart haha
I mean how does a TCM feel? Like almost every sequel or what not has been completely different.
I know his Evil Dead was so good!!! It's like where did it go wrong with this?
“Well what did you want? What did you expect?“ “Well, firstly, I DIDN’T want it.”😂Same.
i really enjoyed this movie and its become a guilty pleasure and a comfort horror film for me, i dislike that they brought the final girl sally back in the movie, i really enjoy alot of the cinematography and the kills and amount of gore.
I went in with super low expectations but I really enjoyed it for what it was. Popcorn movie for sure
I just watched this one yesterday, so I'm pretty pleasently surprised to find you doing a review today!
I'm so sick of boomers writing every mid twenties character like a caricature of the millennial/ influencer stereotype. It needs to stop.
Leatherface here is given motive.
yes and the fact that I see people rooting for him to kill all these entitled liberals is quite troubling
Totally agree, these comments are very concerning 😳
GOD you are so right in the beginning about people being allowed to dislike things. The conversation I’ve seen around Scream 2022 is ridiculous, it’s like if you criticize the movie you’re “proving the movie right”. You can dislike things without being one of those crazy, annoying fans lol
This dichotomy in the fandom of either loving or loathing the new releases is kind of exhausting. The pressure to have a hot take about low-effort movies is kind of exhausting. Especially when fans are putting more passion into fighting each other over the thing than the filmmakers did when making it.
Awesome overview of how to appreciate the genre and to like or dislike what you want. Kudos to you! I'm planning to check this one out soon!
The flick was awful! Plain and simple. As a no brain horror movie it was watchable, but as a Texas Chainsaw sequel…. Yikes!
I miss the cats
"First of all, I didn't want it at all. Never asked for it. Did not want it." Can you please drop that merch?!💀❤️
It’s about how you express that dislike.
it's trash and woke, fck netflix for this
@@SossaČesko Netflix didn't made it.
Am I the only one who loved the movie. It was just so brutal (I like the gore in it) and also the ending was really surprising.😊 But I respect everyone’s opinion, just pls don’t hate me for liking😅

I really liked this movie! It had everything I want in a horror movie. Great gore, awesome kills and not too many boring moments. To me it was entertaining as hell and very rewatchable because of the lenght of the movie💯💯
Paused your review, watched the movie myself, then restarted your review and enjoyed your video more than the movie. Thanks for the content :)
A phrase that needs to die is "who asked for this?"
This is silly and nonsensical. 98% of movies are stories we never asked for, they're just created.
YOU PUT THIS SO WELL!!!!!!!!!!!
