What Happened To Pandorum?

- Back in 2009, horror fans weren't exactly thrilled with what was hitting the screens. It was like horror hit a dry spell towards the end of the 2000s. Sure, if you dug deeper, you'd find gems like The Collector, Laid to Rest, and Paranormal Activity, but even they didn't exactly set the box office on fire. Studios seemed confused, throwing stuff out there and hoping something stuck. And then there was Pandorum, which had potential but just didn't land quite right.

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: What Happened To This Horror Movie?

There's an alternate universe out there where Ben Foster is the megastar household name he deserves to be.
He has a way of lifting low budget films. Brilliant actor
I'll never understand why Pandorum isn't more well-regarded. I loved it and would argue that it was easily the best horror movie of 2009.
That IS a low bar lol
The Jason remake was better
Daybreakers

Pandorum is a very underrated film. the right mix of sci-fi and horror it has issues but thoroughly enjoyable It had a few jump scares that got me
The critics are wrong on this one. This movie rules!
Critics are a joke. It honestly seems like when they dump on a movie, that movie is really good. And vice-versa. This movie was awesome!
Audience scores are much more reliable.
A surprise hit that get regular runtime amongst others of my favorites
+1 I liked it but hard to find it online.
Being a cult hit is better than having one good weekend at the box office and then fading into obscurity.
Yup, definitely an underrated flick
Saw this in theaters and absolutely loved it. Still do till this day. Fantastic atmosphere and great acting from the solid characters in my opinion.
Pandorum is an underrated gem of a sci-fi/horror movie.
It was fun to watch back in the day just as it still is today.
Great film great sets with great performances and a story that unravels so well. Highly underrated
The twist was really well done imo. And Ben was awesome
Fucking loved this movie. That farmer dude made me want to get into martial arts.
Ended up taking kickboxing since we didn't have any muay thai classes nearby
This movie is sooooo good. One of my favorites.
Pamdorum was pretty good. It was interesting to see Norman Reedus with his original British accent. The mutant killing the guy in the cryotube was creepy. The Twist was okay
Dude, did u have a stroke writing the first sentence?
Norman Reedes is definitely not British.
Pamdorum. "It's Pam!"
Great movie. Wish there were more sci fi horror flicks like this.
Very underrated film!!
I think it's a good movie, creepy and entertaining and the story is solid.
Loved this one!
Not without its issues but it’s still one I go back and rewatch every now and then. Well casted and decent effects.
Love this movie! Loved it in the theater and each time I watch it at home. Reminds me of Dead Space
I didn't even know this existed until I saw it in the used DVD section at Hollywood Video. Bought it, saw it, and loved it. I've seen it several times since. I never understood the hate. I wish I could have seen it in theaters.
This movie feels like a video game movie that never had a video game attached to it. It’s quite good.
One of my favorite
I remember this movie had one of the first iPhone OS games along with Terminator and Avatar.
Do not agree with this take. The atmosphere generated by the film is among the best for space horror films and the twist at the end is great. It’s only the action scenes that hold it back as they are not scary and just clunky. But even just scenes of walking down a hallway are quite effective.
Ben Foster is a very underrated actor.
I'm just glad Anderson didn't cast his wife .
I had no idea this movie was so disliked (I don't check Rotten Tomatoes as a policy for enjoying movies)!! I remember seeing it in the theater, bought it on DVD when it came out, and I actually still rewatch it like once a year to this day - LOL! Now I guess I'll upgrade to the $5 blu-ray you mentioned!
I really like Pandorum. I’m curious as to what the other two movies would be about.
Movie is a gem.
Loved most of the movies that just got bashed. Drag me to hell was a fun ride
Rise of the Lycans is probably my favourite of the Underworld series.
I believe if they had made a sequel there may have well been profit for both films to make sense.
This movie is basically "Blame!" in live action movie form, or at least the closest we'll probably ever get.
I just recently watched it on recommendation by a fellow Blame! fan, and it did not disappoint. This movie deserves more love. The environments, practical effects and avant-garde storytelling and camera angles are what really make it shine.
I've watched this movie twice, and wouldn't hesitate to watch it again.
I've always thought this was marketed wrong. It's a fun space horror.
I forgot I even saw this and loved it until this channel reminded me.
I really enjoyed this movie and I don't understand why folks don't like it.
The movie pays off its twists really well and the soundtrack is amazing!
I'll disagree with this video in that the movie wasn't marketed as a horror movie at all - it was totally pushed as a sci fi movie. Also at the time, none of these actors were really considered huge names. Quaid wasn't even on any of the posters if I recall correctly.
I got a list of movies and shows that if I were somehow a billionaire, I'd try investing in their stories being continued and this is on the list. I remember watching it in theaters and liking it, think I remember going again to see it with a friend later that wanted to see it. I didn't know the Event Horizon connection, I loved that movie too. I liked the claustrophobic atmosphere of the ship, and was curious what they were going to do with the planet to continue. I'd watch a sequel if it truly was a sequel.
I actually really enjoyed this movie. Of course I only saw it a few years ago. This is one of those films I had never even really heard of. I had seen a lot promo material for Zombieland and Saw 4 that year but hardly anything for this. So it just passed out of memory. Too bad, I would have liked to see a sequel.
I remember when it came out, I was still in my teens and loved horror but I didn’t care for it, the cinematography was so dark and hard to see
Underrated flick TBH
Saw this opening weekend. I enjoyed it and think it still holds up. Deserves better than it got. Hope more and more see this movie and gets its recognition it deserves.
I intentionally saw this movie because of Anderson’’s name attached to it. I even own it on blu ray. I am a big fan of Event Horizon.
Great trailer, great premise, good overall story reveal and yet the movie itself somehow underdelivers on what could have been
Pandorum is an awesome movie, and it really deserves to be spoken of in the same breaths as other Sci-fi, Claustrophobic, horror films. And yes, in the same breaths as Aliens, Event Horizon, etc.
I didn't know anything about this movie when I first watched it and I loved it. I couldn't believe I hadn't heard of it before
I watched this movie due to a leaked copy at the time. I loved it. I went and bought it as soon as I could find a copy. I never "agree " with the world. I make my own opinion on everything. The Thing was a box office flop too and look at it today. It's one of the most talked about and beloved movies today. If I had listened to the world then. I would have missed out on one my favorite movies ever. Make your own opinion. Don't listen to naysayers. Out.
Wished we had a more detailed movie in pandorum but this movie is really good
I watched this a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised how good it was.
I remember liking this movie when it came out and I was just thinking about this a couple of days ago, trying to remember the name of the movie and you suddenly upload this vid hahaha....
Saw this in theaters and didn't like it initially, but upon rewatches, I find more that I like.
Can we take a moment to recognize how bad ass Antje Traue is and why she hasn’t done more
Well.. thats a shame because this movie is in fact really good. I loved it the first time a saw it, i own it on dvd and i love to re-watch it over and over.
Can someone tell me why this type of horror is something so few like? Like i dont care how well its done; man alone, “aliens” on space ship, psychosis. Are my favorite combos all time and this is definitely my favorite horror film behind a couple of the Alien movies
Underrated, for sure. It’s not the best movie, but I think it achieved what it set out to accomplish and deserves more credit than it gets.
The one movie that needed a sequel
I like doing themed Halloween parties and always show a movie that somewhat matches the theme.
I had a Bioshock themed party one year, and we watched Pandorum. Everyone enjoyed it, although they didn’t realize how much it related to Bioshock until the end. 😄
I have the BluRay. You mention two planned sequels, but thats not accurate. One was indeed meant to be a sequel based on Elysium, the planet the settler ship is aiming for. The other was going to be a prequel based on Earth. An Earth that is truly fucked leading to the Elysium project
It's a far better sci-fi film than most of the trash that has come out in the last decade . that's not saying much thou
Pandorum is one of my favorite movies! It’s a space version of SnowPiercer, in a way. I absolutely love Nadia too 🥰
The movie is 100%. The cast is fantastic and the dialogue is great especially towards the end.
I liked the movie when I saw it at theaters in 2009 and fondly remember the trailer. It's ncie to hear that it has a cult following, but the movie does deserve a Scream Factory treatment.
This movie was excellent. Granted they could have done a few things differently with the amazing premise, and there was some cinimatography that didn't match the tone of the film at times, but man it was original and so very well acted. Amazing cast.
Love this movie. Would have loved a continuation of the story.
I am really surprised at the poor reception. I happened to just put it on randomly and was drawn in to the atmosphere and creeping sense of dread. The escalating sense if insanity among the characters was well done too.
I guess I hadn't seen the reviews, didn't know I was 'supposed' to not like it. It sails a little close to the book 'Non Stop!' At times, but it's...Good. I cannot understand people outright slamming it...weird.
I really love Pandorum. It's too bad the market pressures can destroy an otherwise excellent movie. I saw this on a whim when it came out because two friends of mine didn't want to hang out at the NCO club on Friday night, so we went to the movies. We all came out shocked at how good it actually was. Especially the scene near the very end when [SPOILERS] they open the windows on the bridge and see nothing but black for two seconds. Just long enough for my mind to ask "How far out into the galaxy do you have to drift to not see any stars?"... Then the aquatic creatures come by the window and you realize your mind jumped the gun. They're underwater.
I loved this movie from the beginning. I wonder what a trilogy would’ve looked like
I saw this when it first came out and really enjoyed it - especially with the suspense and scares. I rediscovered it a couple of years ago when I came across it on Tubi. I still enjoyed it. I can admit some problems with the screenplay and some pacing issues, but overall its an enjoyable movie.
I saw this movie on cable and honestly it was great I was like how did I miss this in the movie theater honestly, though it was more science-fiction than horror film
I like this movie. I think its great. I didnt know "people" hated it.
I loved the movie. Being a huge sci-fi horror fan since the grandfather of them all, Alien, this movie had a nice pace, and a feeling of dread, and the ship was huge and cavernous. Yes, the storyline was a little convoluted at the end but give it a second watch and you will understand it much better.
I remember renting this movie with Event Horizon and watching them back to back one weekend. I actually liked Pandorum better. It had an interesting twist at the ending that made me want to see a sequel. Plus, it made me fall in love with Antje Traue.
Just rewatched this movie and it's a classic don't care what anyone has to say. I can't believe we were robbed of a trilogy
Underrated. I dug it.
I CRAZY LOVE this movie.. I’ve watched it countless times…
We have a dome-projector thing for science labs at work. You lay down in the middle and it will play whatever you want up above you inside a big inflatable dome. This movie would be amazing for this.
Pandorum is a fantastic sci-fi/horror and it's a great watch.
This is a great movie, I loved it and sucks we don't get to see the sequels
I really enjoyed this movie, but i definitely didnt notice it when it was in theaters unfortunately, a lot of movies i blame marketing especially back when this was made
When I saw advertising for this movie, they seemed to be pitching it as an Event Horizon-alike. Which in my case, was a strong turn off. I don't mind blood and gore in a film, but my wife and I found Event Horizon to be just grotesque. Actually caught Pandorum on cable (HBO, I think) a while later and it turned out to be an excellent film - we both enjoyed it very much. It played more like a Sci-Fi tale with horror elements.
This is one of my favorite movies. not top top. but defenetly one I rewatch from time to time. I didnt know what it was about when I saw it and really liked the different approach.
Definitely deserves to be held in higher regard
I didn’t know this movie wasn’t well received. I saw it in theaters, and really liked it. Bought it on Blu-ray and still have it. I remember it reminded me of Dead Space and I loved that game, so I think that’s why I liked it so much.
massively underrated!
When you release a movie too cool for it's time.
If this movie would have release after 2020 it would have been a MegaHit!
Loved this movie.. should have a prequel..
Never saw this
I remember when I saw this movie It was like me and maybe a couple dozen other people right And you know the young cast I know there was selling it on Ben Foster but I remember the dude from boondock saints was in it and one of the Quaid brothers and this movie I mean the twist at the end was great and you know what it was the most happiest unhappiest ending I've ever seen if that makes any sense cuz usually in movies like this it's like no torment but this was different
Ben Foster pretty much plays the same character in every movie he's in.
I always liked it. Just rewatched it a month ago.
I really like this movie. Lacks a bit in the writing but the atmosphere is great and the acting is pretty good. I love Sci fi films like this so I'm a bit biased.
Pandorum is a great movie! That one and Doomsday came out around the same time and never got the love they deserved.
Have the writers ever talked about where they intended to go with the story?
Movies back in 2009 are a hundred times better than what they make now😂
This movie doesn’t need a sequel, much less a trilogy. Otherwise we would’ve had one for Event Horizon.
In the UK Dec 25 and 26 th are disaster dates to release a movie.
I didn't care for it when it came out, but it's been on my list of things to re-watch.
I rewatch this movoe about every year or so. I think its pretty damn good. Not sure why all the hate. Maybe its bc that was back when audiences were spoiled and entertainment was much better. Now the majority of movies really suck and I would love to have a Panorama like movie now.
Love this movie, underrated for sure
This movie kicks ass
Pandorum is just a great movie!
Ah the "likely was a early draft of a dead space game movie but never happened" movie
