What Happened to CHRISTOPHER LAMBERT?

  • In deciding on our next WTF celebrity to cover, we passed around several names, but in the end, we all decided that: There could be only One! Despite being basically blind, Christopher Lambert made a name for himself as the king of Sci-Fi action films. Highlander (and the awful sequels), Fortress, Knight Moves, Gunmen, Mortal Kombat, The Hunted, etc. One could say he single-handedly kept Blockbuster Video in business, as most of his output in the 90s made its debut on the bottom shelves of the video rental chain. However, few performers have made their mark on the international stage, like Christopher Lambert, alternating between North American schlock and more prestigious French fare. Despite most of us knowing Lambert mainly for two iconic roles, there is a whole lot more to know about this American-born French actor; it’s time we find out just WTF Happened to Christopher Lambert.

Highlander was for many years my favorite movie. The story plus Queen soundtrack was just over the top. Can't believe it brought less then $13m in at the BO. During a work meeting a few weeks ago our team lead asked me: Peter, do you have something to say? I nearly responded: Yeah, it is better to burn out than to fade away. I nearly named my 2nd son Conner because of the movie.

Interesting bit of Trivia about the man: Besson originally wanted Sting for the lead role in Subway but he was not available, Chistophe Lambert got the part and his haircut became a sort of hommage to the singer. Subway became a smashing success so Besson also wanted to cast Chistophe Lambert for his following big project Le Grand Bleu (The Big Blue, a cult film about 2 legendary deep divers), but due to the very specific physical constraints, Chistophe Lambert turned the role down as he could not imagine himself as a believable deep diver.
Le Grand Bleu was a huge hit and is now a cult film about deep diving, pretty much like Point Break is a cult movie about surfing.
Indeed, Christophe Lambert is not just a movie star, but also an honest and relatable guy

Then, there's the TV series, which many fans really love, making the character of Duncan MacLeod every bit as beloved and vital to the overall story arc as Connor himself.

When it comes to deities in fiction (conventional fiction, not getting into how all deities are fictional) I have never understood why so many people accept that the character is a god, but cannot accept it when they don't conform to their particular idea of what that character should look like. I mean, ITS A DMNED DEITY.
In the real world when looking at polytheism (since so many fictional deities come from some type of polytheism, either adapted from actual stories or invented out of whole cloth), most of those cultures basically had an understanding that the way their gods made themselves known to one culture was not the way the same deities made themselves known to another culture. Not to mention that any individual deity had a good chance of simply changing their appearance on whatever whim suited their fancy without warning or explanation.
edit: One of the best on-screen solutions for this were the Vorlons in Babylon 5 of all things. While not deities in the conventional sense, they played that role in helping younger races develop. Being beings of pure energy, they could be seen by multiple different species at the same time, but in different ways. So that each different species seeing one, would see a being out of their own mythology (E.g. at least some humans saw a modern looking Christian angel... not a biblically accurate one, but that is a different story... and no, never sorry for my puns). Even when seeing the Vorlon simultaneously. So the way the camera saw the Vorlon was only just ONE way (at any one time) that a Vorlon was actually seen by the characters.
The entire point of acting, or wearing a costume, is to be someone or something that you are not.

Random as it is, Christopher Lambert's likeness was also said to be inspiration for the design of Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. They strayed away from that, but you can still vaguely see some similarities in the promotional art for the character, like his intense stare.

I've seen 50+ Lambert films and am now watching stuff with no English language track, lol. The Hunted was glossed over here, but is one of his best.

I noticed his voice sounded pretty rough in the NCIS series and I wondered if he had been ill. (He smokes.) So I am very glad to hear he is still active and doing well. One of my long-time favorite actors and there is much hype surrounding the new remake of Highlander starring the incomparable Henry Cavill.

I'm really glad he's doing good. I remember seeing him in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan when I was little and he really made an impact on me, and his performance in Highlander was so amazing too. I don't care how bad the sequels were, I watch just because he's in it, I don't care. From what I have seen of him in interviews and the like, I've never heard a bad thing about him at all. I've liked him since I was a kid, and I always will.

I loved Highlander: Endgame. But I imagine it was only popular with fans of the series. The flashbacks were awesome, as well as the fight sequences with Immortals from other regions.

Highlander & Fortress Are Awesome Movies.
I Think His Interpretation Of Rayden Is Awesome.
Watching Highlander Endgame Shows Us The Different Combat Strategies Between Duncan & Connor.
