What Happened to BRUCE CAMPBELL?

  • Ask Bruce Campbell, and he’ll tell you he’s “sick of over-trained heroes. I'm really bored with that. Guys that are just ripped to shreds and, you know, full of skills. That's boring to me. Give me the mechanic that picks up a weapon, you know? Now I'm interested. That's my hero. That could be me.”
Ash Williams of the Evil Dead franchise IS that hero. Part of the lasting appeal of the best character Bruce Campbell has ever played is that the audience can see themselves in him, like if they were pressed into fighting an army of Deadites, they could take up the mantle, the chainsaw, the boomstick, and mow down wave after wave of the undead masses. In this video, we take a look at Campbell's long career, from his debut in The Evil Dead through his brushes with fame in the nineties, through his awesome return as a character actor on Burn Notice and his return in Ash vs The Evil Dead!

Bruce Campbell came to my local theater, (which I was an assistant manager at) for the premier of his movie, 'My name is Bruce', which he filmed on his property just a few miles away. I got to spend my entire lunch break hanging out with him and talking about his films. He's a wonderful human being and one of my favorite actors. It was a dream come true.

So he's a good dude? I can't always tell with actors. I know his whole persona is being kind of a lovable jerkass but I don't necessarily know what he'd be like on a low-key basis amongst just a few fans. He really is just one of those unique lightning in a bottle character actors who knows how to work what he's got and seems like he's made a really good career and had fun with it.

Bruce will always be god-tier to me. I went one of his If Chins Could Kill book signings and was a little early. He used both hands to shake mine. A real gentleman.

Best two lines in cinematic history "Who's laughing now!!??" by Bruce in Evil Dead 2. "I've come here to chew bubblegum, and...." Roddy Piper in They Live.

Found several movies and a couple of series here to add to my must-see list. Thanks.

At the end of the Evil Dead television show he said that was it and had no intentions to return to a roll that didn't just typecast him, but he didn't like how people saw him as a the vapid characters he portrayed. It would be great to see him return to Evil Dead because he is the pulse of the series and whether it's true horror or his comedic twist, we really appreciate his work and thank you for showing off his range and ability as a capable actor and intellectual.

A genuinely nice man. My personal exposure to Bruce was via my kids and their multiple encounters with him. My eldest was working at the Main Art Theater in Royal Oak, which hosted numerous premiers featuring Bruce's films. As an usher he was treated respectfully and kindly. At his book signings, also In R.O. at Thomas Video, he remembered my son and signed and dedicated a copy not only for him but one for me too. He was glib, engaging and thoughtful. This was an example for my kids of meeting your hero and not being disappointed.

It's a shame Ash Vs Evil Dead got cancelled, it had a great cast and was suitably gory but the three seasons we got were perfect so I can't complain too much. It was the icing and the cherry on the cake for the Evil Dead franchise.

Bruce should have his own rating... A- List Movie Star. Also for those who like to see anything with Bruce Campbell in it, there is an Episode of Psych where he plays a dream guru. He definitely is having fun.

Bruce Campbell is one of those actors who truly care about the people who love his work, puts his all into his roles, and unlike so many others, never turned his back on any of it.
