- We've all heard what's allegedly the cause of the infamous Honda Rebel 1100 speed wobbles, but as it turns out...that's just NOT the truth. And the worst part is, I'm the one who helped spread that lie. So today I'm coming clean and telling you what I've found to be the REAL solution to the nagging issue that plagues the new Rebel 1100- the dreaded high speed wobble!

6:05 - Answer: He got new tires.
Thanks
Thanks. I detest all the gibberish and stringing out these videos.
I guessed tires but enjoy his story since he's funny.
Thank you
Thanks! Da real MVP. Such a tallent talking random stuff not getting to the point. Thanks for time saved.
I have had the 2023 honda rebel 1100 manual for 2 months, brand new. No wobble until i hit 1000 miles and went over 93 mph. Took it to the dealership, they replaced the front dunlop tire. They said it had a hump in it. Ok.The warranty provided a new dunlop front tire. Took it for a test drive, when i hit 90 mph, the wobble was worse. I found your video. Took a risk on the Metzler cruistecs, they just installed it today. Took it up to 100 mph 5 times. NO WOBBLE. I said all that to say...thankyou bro. Metzler needs to cut you a check. Blessings to you and your family.
did you use the bias belted or the radial tires
@shellyrodrigues9661 both tires are belted bias. You wanna know something crazy, last week, the wobble came back everytime I hit about 87 mph. I dont even know what's going on at this point
It's me, everyone. I am the one who takes his bike to Mexico to ride it. I use most of my free time to film his segments in Mexico. It helps being a dual citizen. You're welcome, Burch.
"Mexico"

Yes. My wobble happened between 70-100kph, smoothing out at higher speeds. The problem disappeared when I swapped out the stock Dunlops for Michelin Commander 3's.
Can I share a story with you? One day I was driving home and I felt the presence of the Lord, come down to me from above. It was as real as anything and I felt so comfortable with Him.
I knew if I asked Him to play a song on the radio, He would.
So I said "Ok Lord, play Come as you are..."
I didn't know what station it was on or anything, but I turned the radio on and the song started playing right on the spot, perfectly...
I started getting flooded with chills inside, trembling, and crying tears of joy. When I got home, He stayed with me for 10 minutes till I got out of the car.
Since then, I've been getting prayers answered wayyyy more often, because that experience made me stop doubting when I pray, and I follow Biblical instructions for praying, as best I can.
I have had the wobble happen, and it's slightly terrifying when going over bumps at high speeds. I just resigned myself to not needing to go that fast and left it there. If I do change my mind, this will likely be the tires I get. Thanks for your vid and info!
I’m about to buy one, at what speeds does this start to happen?
@Randy Dowling 91ish for me
I have just replaced the worn out rear Dunlop tire with the Metzeler cruisetec, and voilá, the wobble does not happen any more.
@@randyhorseyI can't say what speed mine started at, because all I did was get on the throttle in sport mode so as I picked up speed...maybe between 70-85 mph it started for me.
Strangers always coming in clutch for high speed runs! 👌
Bro, you should always let people borrow your bike to check out its performance. 🎉
Like is said in the post, it feels like a new bike with the Metzeler Cruisetec's! Thanks again to everyone! Helped me make a great decision.🤙
Thanks for this video. I have been kind of just dealing with the speed wobbles for the 8k miles i have put on my rebel. I honestly was wondering if it was the winds on the roads in Arizona. Ironically, I just made an appointment to get a service and new tires. The shop im going to only had the metzeler Cruisetechs in stocl , so without doing much looking into the metzelers, that's what I choose. Then I watched this video as soon as you said tires were the solution. I held my breath, hoping you were about to say the cruisetechs. Scared my dog awake when I shooted hell yeah upon your reveal lol. 😅
Picking up an 1100T DCT sometime this week.
All the research I've done all lean towards the Rebel
Vulcan S was a pretty close 2nd
Im psyched!!
Tires are always a good place to start. I thought mine was immune till 2 weeks ago I joined some naked bike, group riders and did some sustained pulls past 178kp/h and that issue occurred to me for the first time. those oscillations are a bit off putting. In this nanny state those speeds get you in jail and automatic loss of license, so is a rare effort. I will keep the factory tires till they are due to be replaced. However this is almost a recall problem. If you look at the center line grove on the front tire it is molded with small offset blocks in the line of the groove, almost designed to wobble at certain harmonics (speed).
Thank you for the idea, I really appreciate it and all your videos about the Rebel. 👍 I've just bought one and waiting for some better weather to ride it.
Btw. some 20 years ago I had a Honda CB 1300, which had the same problem at the speed about 60 km/h. It also had Dunlop tires from the factory and the wobble almost disappeared when I changed the tires.
Greetings from Hungary 🤗
@45K miles on the Rebel 1100 DCT I've now been thru 2 sets of Dunlop/Sumitomo OEMs and now on second set of Pirelli Night Dragons. She absolutely loves her Italian shoes. Even got her a new gold chain Friday in addition to a third set of front/rear wheel bearings which I replace every 15K. Had rear ones blow out southbound on I-95 at 70 MPH and suffice to say it required a whole new back end for the bike - covered by Honda so . . . Great bike and not sure what I'm getting next. Can't see selling her or trading her in - just needs a sibling I think. I don't have much speed wobble issue except for perhaps it settling too hard on the back when accelerating at speed on interstate. stiffened suspension couple of times and I think she rides much better.
Hey Robert! 45k miles man? WOW! you definitely hold the record! RESPECT!!
Wow you’re really putting the miles on!! 🤯 I haven’t even done half that between EVERY vehicle I own in the past 2 years! That’s wild that your rear wheel bearings went out. Did Honda say what could’ve caused it?
@@LifeOfBurch I think all motorcycles need wheel bearings replaced every now and again? It's one of those things they could last a long or not so long time so I change em out every 15K front/rear both and avoid issue altogether. They're relatively cheap parts and can easily be put on when getting tires. IDK specifically what caused it but it could have been an f'd up evening had it been worse or on the front. Honda ended up replacing back wheel, ABS, rear brakes, etc. Definite show stopper and screwed up my weekend plans but thankful it wasn't a real problem so much as a nuisance.
@@ontherebel11 we're holdin steady at 3 crashes and 7-8 drops - depending on how we count a "drop" LOL . . . Love ur chan BTW
@@MeanRachel All the drops on camera and off camera were not done by done LOL
it's not about if, it's when we'll drop the bike, simple physics LOL Thank you for sharing your experience with the community, i'll be keeping a close eye on the bearings and will replace them soon based on your recommendation!
I have experienced wobble at low speed, concretely at 43-49 mph / 70-80 km/h. The problem appears only when my hands are not on the handlebars. Have you experienced some similar?
Yeah man, my Cruistecs were expensive on my Sportster, but they changed the bike. Glorious.
OMG...as I mentioned, I purchased mine less than a month ago. Well, I took it on a lil distance ride about an hour or so and on this 2-lane highway, I've had to pass a few trucks and cars in the oncoming lane. In sport mode when I get on it that thing started doing the Humpty Dance on me which forced me to immediately get OFF the throttle causing significant danger ☠️💀 to life, with oncoming traffic approaching and me not passing fast enough since I'm forced to slow down.
At first I thought it was something I did, so I moved my phone mount as well. Told the dealership about it and they told me to add stabilizers to the bike, (which I didn't). Tried passing on these two-lane highway roads other times and boom, same Humpty Dance wobble. This scared me so bad that one time I audibly said in my helmet "ooh LaWD, please not like this..., I'll remove my OMWTFYB license frame!! 😳😫🤥!!
I'm so happy to know that this manufacture defect is the problem. Honestly, due to the safety risks this poses to riders and other motorists, Honda, Dunlop or someone should make this a manufacture recall and THEY should fund these tires that resolve the issue. You have no idea how thankful I am, that I'm learning it's not just me having this issue that really gave me HUGE concerns about riding and keeping this new bike.
I also thought it was because of the stock hard saddle bags or the batwing fairing with the low windshield, but again, it's the tires!!?? WOW-Shamwow-, Great Scott!
So with your platform and following, I believe you have the juice to bring this safety issue to Honda because obviously this is not an isolated problem. 🤷🏼👍🏼. Thank you 🙏🏼🤝
The tire tread is backwards on the stock tires. They should be recalled.
Back to the point in my comment. If it were that simple why didn't Honda, with some of the best engineering talent in the automotive/motorcycle world, would figure it out at the factory before they shipped it.
Bias ply front, Radial rear
Metzeler Cruisetec
For those wondering exactly what to get.
Maybe its a quality and balance issue and I am lucky... mines never wobbled. I have done the 100mph max a lot, but I haven't removed to go over it. Replacing my tires soon, and I'll make sure to NOT get these same tires... I won't get lucky twice.
Makes sense. I was thinking it was going to be suspension. But I mean... tires are still somewhat part of the whole suspension system. So I guess if the stock ones were a bit softer it makes sense. I'm guessing at speed when the tire gets bumped and then unloaded any instability (like bumps on the road, or those snacking cracks) would be maximised and leading to the wobble, just like in regular soft front suspension issues.
Legit of you to acknowledge that it wasn't fully gone. I had seen some forums quoting you about the wobble, and am glad you went a bit more into details here.
You’re exactly right! And yea I figured I had to expand on this more since I KEPT seeing people referencing that old video as the “end all be all” solution. That video was barely getting views anymore, but obviously was still unintentionally misleading people. I’m just glad that it’s finally ACTUALLY fixed and hope that this video helps lead people in the right direction 🤘🏻
I would assume head bearings
I have been preaching for years that the stock Dunlop D404 found on a lot of bikes as stock absolutely suck. They are the most numb feeling tire I've ever rode on in terms of feedback. They aren't good in the rain. And they feel squirrelly if you try to chuck it in the corners. Should call them dunFLOPs. Most of the good reviews are from people that have never put a different tire on and never tried actual good performing tires. Michelin, pirelli, metzler are all upgrades. I recommend Michelin commander 2 for cruisers. And the road 6 for sport bikes. They feel glued to the road, even in the rain
I was going to say new tires because I lost the speed wobble on my 500 with new tires too!
Maannn where were you with this info months ago?! 😂😂😂
@@LifeOfBurch I changed my tires before the start of this season and then realized and subsequently forgot that my bike doesn't feel like it's gonna kill me when I go fast 🤣 because the wobble stopped
How good is the suspension? Does it bottom out and hammer your spine when you hit a pot hole? If it does is there an aftermarket shock available that will fix the problem?
There is an adjustment on the rear shocks to helps dampen this
Hello, friend. You then recommend putting on both the front and rear Metzeler Cruisetecs. Sorry for asking, but not being a native speaker I have some difficulty ...
Do any Metzeler Cruisetecs fit, or are there particular models?
I watched Gus’ video before seeing yours so I knew it was the tires :) great vid man!
I wonder if they used balance beads in the Dunlops
That’s crazy … I had speed wobble on my VTX 1300, I changed the tires from dunlop to michelin and NO more wobble.
yes, new tires did the trick for me as well
Glad to hear it! Sounds like they’ve been the culprit for a bunch of people!
I've always had good luck with both Metzelers and Pirellis of course Pirellis have the hardest side wall and is a pain to break the bead so I run Metzelers on my HD's
All tires have a speed rating. Probably honda went with a all around tire that would just qualify for what the bikes speed was capped for. Every time the bike is being enhanced something else left stock will surely be overwhelmed.
I do want a Rebel 1100 dct, and I am learning about all the necessary upgrades needed like the seat
Dude kindly tell that stranger to ride safe! 😂😂
If I ever encounter him again I’ll be sure to pass that along! 😂
Awesome video. Unfortunately, for me, Honda has not yet brought the Rebel to Brazil. 😂😂
Fantastic! I'm up to 12k on mine and i still love them! 👌
Sheeesh still racking those miles up! And I’m sure they still look damn near brand new at 12k miles too! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Burch I hate high speed wobbles especially the death wobbles I've experience 😤😑
Yea speed wobbles are nooo bueno!! 🤬
My son has the Metzler cruise tec on his idian scout rogue. I've rode his bike several times and I think there the best tire out there. They handle turns really well and feel grippy which I like. I'll be getting then put on my rebel 1100 shortly.
I just pick up my Rebel 1100T last week from Salisbury, MD, I live in DC area see you around.
How is it that Honda has not addressed this issue? This sounds like a 1973 Harley issue, not a 2024 Honda issue.
What a nice stranger to help you out like that 👀
Thank you so much for keeping me informed! I have a 2021 Rebel 1100 DCT that is going to need new tires in a few months. I’m going to follow your advice.
Happy to help! Gus has 12k miles on his Cruisetecs already and they still have TONS of life left! You won’t be disappointed.
It's possible the stock tires were trying to climb a bit, but I'd still think it's the aerodynamics of the bike that's the main factor 🤔
G'day mate I've done 40000 Ks on my Rebel now and I totally agree with you it was the tires
How did you cut you governor off??
HAPPY SUNDAY ITS FINALLY REBEL 1100 CONTENT DAY
LET’S GOOO!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I think we all want the Cruise Techs. On the Rebel 11 is awesome.
I think you need a tool role on the front forks, or maybe a hang a bag of spuds over the mud guard.
Can you drag it out any longer?
Yes
This bike with this fairing looks insane cool!
I’m in Montana. I feel like with the wind here you will get a bit of a wobble going that fast
Front tires get "cupped" usually by being improperly inflated. Cupped front tires will wobble like hell..
Honda should take note and get better stock tires for this bike.
my first bike was a honda shadow spirit 750. i got rid of it real quick due to that issue. that and that i couldn't get over 85 mph with it and truck were passing me on the highway, causing more wobble from the wind drag. i'm thinking about the rebel 1100 as my next bike.
Did 127 mph on mine the other day, zero wobbles
Yo! Please tell me where you got your windscreen. Amazon aint it lol
Hey. I have a rebel 500 and get a speed wobble above 90mph on freeway bends? Any suggestions?
Hello there. New Rebel owner here. I have a 2023 1100 DCT. Looking for advice on shocks. Any resources anyone knows to dial them in? I weigh 245 lbs.
Thanks for the info. And thanks to the stranger. We'll all try to help you keep his name a secret.
still wobblin dude
Yeah you can still see the lack of dead set stability that you would think a modern bike would have, especially a cruiser, and especially a honda.
Nice video as always. Is this windscreen color "black" or "smoked"? Just curious cause I'm looking at your link on Amazon and it appears solid black (non see through). Thanks....
I had a wobble on a different honda model and it was also solved after a front tyre change
Do bias vs radial ply matter? Honda doesn't seem to specify. More importantly what works better with the cruisetecs
So which tires are the best for the Rebel 1100? Metzler (which ones exactly?) or Michelin Road 6?
i dont know, how someone with these wobbles dont think about new tires... so often learned. New tires, especially better tires are the best tuning
Hey Burch, is that the same front cowling as the bagger/touring version of this bike? I’m getting my bagger next month, I love that windscreen. If it is, what’s the link to your windscreen?
Had the same issue with my bridgestone s22 on my mt09… Michelin road 5s fixed it
Hows it man!
Question? Where’d you get that windscreen?
This was the same issue as the Yamaha Bolt which was solved several years ago
Mine doesn''t do it, but I'm also like 250. Then again I avoid the highway like the plague if I can.
Quality tires always help. Red, Hot, and Blues, had lunch there last week!
Their brisket is so damn good!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
That's what I had, the sandwich with fries. You should try the brisket tacos at the Old South Smoke House near Port Deposit, MD.
@@andyhorn2509 brisket tacos?! I’m for sure putting that on my list of places to try!! 😳
Pork or brisket, 2 for one price, you price. Bit of hike for you I suppose but a day out!
Meant to say you pick! I usually get one of each
Not, sure but stock tires might not be rated for high speeds
They’re not rated for super high speeds, but the issue started well before reaching the speed rating of the tire. So not sure if that plays a role or not 🤔
Can you tell me where you got your fairing? It does not seem to be the one you listed here under "windscreen".
Is there a way to remove the top speed and reverse limiter yet? Or fix the speed wobbles?
my 1100 dct has a wiggle/wobble at 48-50 mph other than that the bike is perfect
I wonder if this is still a thing with the 23 1100? My scl500 reads over 95. Ive hit 97 a few times.
Where did you get that headlight fairing on that 1100? I want one.
EDIT: I actually found that fairing, its the GAUNTLET FAIRING FOR 2021 - 2023 HONDA REBEL 1100 from Memphis Shades. But now i need to know if a fairing for the 1100 will fit on the Rebel 500. If anyone knows, please let me know.
Could have been, you may have needed the tires balanced, or you needed to adjust your tire pressure.
The new Rebels olso have the same problem with rabble? What year is yours?
bolt has same problem. new tires also fix it. for a while.
thinking about getting my first bike not sure which way to go?
How did you get rid of the speed limiter?
did you get the radial or bias belted tire for the front?
Go to 6:10 for the reason you started watching... OMG 8 minutes to tell us it was the wheels.
Dunlops are terrible for heavier bikes. I had them on my Shadow 750, and any level of moisture on them made me loose grip. If I am to recommend, Metzeler are working great for me.
Yea I haven’t had the best experience with Dunlops so far. Which Bridgestones are you running?
@@LifeOfBurch Ah, sorry, as I was not riding my bike for 2 Months now, I wrote the wrong brand I have right now :/
I run METZELER MARATHON ME888 ULTRA But for 100% I do recommend those, grips to the street very well, and from the moment I change dunlops to those I have no stress of riding in the rain etc (earlier it was a nightmare).
@@ryuzoku oh ok cool, so we’re both running Metzelers! I actually was looking at the ones you have before landing on the Cruisetecs. Glad to hear they’re working out well for you!
You now have the best tires
Where did you get the fairing and sissy bar?
Is that the fastest you can go?
Damn. Is there a single bike out there that doesn’t have any problems? I feel like every Bike Ive owned you inevitably discover some annoying thing about it and have to spend x amount of time on forums and youtube trying to figure out the solution.
Is that a Memphis Shades Gauntlet Fairing on your Bike???
What tire pressure do you have them set "cold", and how high to they go when "hot"?
Factory recommended setting is 33 PSI, or around 2.35 bar
Wait...didn't you switch out your tires some months ago because you wore the rear one out for burn-outs for a hip-hop video??
New tires. That was obvious.
Look, if the spedo stops at 95, yhe manufacturer is trying to yell you something.
Forks are too small in circumference.replace the tee and forks with real ones .or put a thinner front tire .
I need to stop watching the speed videos cuz I really worry about the strangers you find!
😅😂😂😂🧡
Does anyone have a good link for the set ?
When are you getting a Honda ruckus!?
So what is the TRUE gps top speed with the speedo heeler? My Rebel 1100 (EUDM) has the limiter at 170 kph (~106 mph)✌
I’m not sure, but I’m sure it could be figured out with one of those online calculators based off gear ratio and rev limiter in 6th gear. I’ve seen others confirm at least 120mph so far, but haven’t tested it that hard yet personally.
Excellent info!
Did you go with the same size as the stock tires or did you change that?
Same size as stock 🤘🏻
