Take the new pump, put on cardboard and mark the holes. Then stick the bolts in as you take them out. Easy to handle, store and no chance of screwing it up.
I very much doubt this water pump you took off was from the Factory off a New Mercedes? I know they would have used a gasket rather than alley garage RTV sealant. They probably didn't get a new gasket and one from the Dealers are $25. OEM comes with a New Gasket! Make sure you get the right bolts in the right holes? The longer ones are for the thermostat housing and don't mix up the one from the idler pulley? These blocks are made of Aluminum and very easy to strip the threads out! Low torque impact wrenches are speedier but make sure yours has an adjustable torque?
If the Mercedes idiot light is telling me to top off coolant, yet the coolant is full. However, the light won’t go off until I’ve driven 4 or 5 miles. Soon afterwards the will be a burning odor off coolant and the fan kicks in. Do you suppose that could be the water pump, thermostat or what? Maybe a censor?
Jennifer Auzston Tavaris hard to tell, sounds like possible coolant leak. Is it overheating? Did you have any maintenance done to cooling system lately?
very late reply i know but i had the exact same thing happen and then about 10 minutes later of driving in mild weather i heared a nice sound and my pump bearing said bye and all my coolant leaked out lol.
Nice Vid. Pretty straight forward job. Getting all the air out, is another issue.I found, this for Torque specs: To Crank Case 25nm to Timing Cover 20nm Anyone confirm?
The self-tapping bolt is 5nm then 25nm, but no clue which one that is. The FSM specifies 5nm and then 20nm for the rest of them, so that's what I did for all of them. 35nm for the idler pulleys, in case anyone is curious.

I had my mechanic replace the water pump on my 2011 ml 550. It keeps throwing a code saying “water pump ground fault”. Cant figure it out. Any ideas?
The small bolts get torqued first in sequence then the larger bolts.
great video. my project for this weekend!
My Mercedes glk 250 - pump and inlet was broken . Leaking antifreeze after 65.000 km. What does mean? Poor quality for big money!
Does the metal gasket for this water pump need sealant or gasket maker when installing? or only the metal gasket and add nothing?
I have a 2005 mercedes ML350
Thank You Jeremy. this is a very helpful video. Thanks for posting it.
my water pump is stock, I have 11 screws and 2 puleys out. but the water pump is not coming off
4:06 did u forget 1 bolt?

@Jeremy Kane
When replacing/refilling your anti freeze, is it required to also replace the thermostat ?
