My only complain about people saying it sounds “generic” is that Linkin park is the reason it’s “generic”. They invented and perfected the style with hybrid theory and meteora, and moved onto new things. Other nu metal/metalcore bands are still copying the hybrid theory formula because it’s so perfect Edit: imo it’s also why they didn’t change the name, as if they did go by a new name but released these two songs, people would be complaining that it sounds too much like linkin park and they’re trying to replicate the old sound etc etc
I agree with this statement 🤝 though I still don't think there's anything majorly standing out to me about her vocals - of course besides the tonal shifted scream at the end which was awesome!
A million bands sprouted from the Linkin Park foundation. It's natural that people who came across the band after their genesis feel like they've heard that sound...but trust me, it was a powerful thing in music when the scene broke.
Perfect way to say it men.. because right now.. Emily is bursting because of rage..because of this haters who dont know how to appreciate great voice and music.. just shut up and listen..learn to enjoy people..
And about the Name changing: Mike is the original founder of the band, they met Chester later by auditioning for co-vocals. Mike wrote most of the old songs, he produces…why should he change the name of HIS band?! I dont get it….🤷🏼♀️
Mike’s ego is not big enough to seriously believe people think of him and not Chester when they think of LP. Chester was the biggest draw to LP, Mike knows it and everybody defending him would rather hear an hour of Chester singing rather than an hour of Mike rapping… there’s too much pandering going on by so called fans.
Also when they met, the band was called Xeno. It didn’t change to Linkin Park until Chester was added as a member… so what are you even talking about?!
@@Gen7486and there’s too much delusion by so called fans like you who think Chester was the only member of the band. And jerking yourself off like your opinion on the band matters more than those in it
He did change the name the band started off as xero before Chester joined and they then changed the name to linkin park so I guess you could say Chester was Linkin park 🤷♂️
I'm 40 years old. Been a Linkin Park fan since I was 16, in high school. They've been a huge part of my life for literally more than half of my life. Dealing with depression, anxiety, and losing a few great people to suicide, Chester's voice and lyrics have helped me get through many rough points in my life. This all being said, I'm still living this era of Linkin Park. I don't understand the "generic" comment at all. Some LP songs are to get you in your feels, and some are to get you hyped up. This is a hype up song, and I'm 100% feeling it. The Emptiness Machine was more of a slow burn for me, and i liked it the more I heard it. But this song grabbed me as soon as I heard it. I've probably played it a couple dozen times yesterday already 😂.
Even Chester wasn’t always doing the scream on Given Up “right” at concerts. He would usually do it in 2 screams, and he wasn’t always on top of his performance which is completely normal. Emily is the same. Like even if you compare her performance from September 11 to her performances on any other date of the new tour the sounds better because September 11 was her introduction to the public and she was probably really feeling the pressure of expectations and hella nervous. But she’s seen that fans have largely accepted her, so she can relax a bit more now. And even then, I’m still listening to that September 11 performance pretty much every day because you really can hear the joy and excitement of being there and being back. :D As for everything else, it’s just gonna take time for people to get used to her and to accept that she’s in LP now. Some of us were able to welcome her right away, for other people that’s going to be tougher and that’s okay. I do hope the straight up hatred will stop at some point, because some people are really throwing the worst kind of feelings at her and she really doesn’t deserve it. (In b4 “but Scientology”: yes she was born in the cult, but it’s pretty much certain that she left the church and the only reason she isn’t publicly speaking out against it is that it’s all incredibly dangerous for her and her family; “but Danny Masterson”: she cut ties with him, so she doesn’t support him; “Chester’s mother and his son are against carrying on”: well, it’s a good thing that nobody cares about their opinions since they aren’t in the band and Jaime was hit with a restrictive order because he kept harassing Talinda… yeah, really reliable sources for any type of information and opinion! And on top of all of this, people who bring these things up are doing so because they don’t actually have any actually valid arguments in regards to the music, so they’ve pretty much already lost any debate.) Anyway, you know, I think we all need time and be open to the new sound, and also receive the new album with an open heart and an open mind. I’m already fired up for it, but I understand how for some people it might be difficult to do. I just really hope people will let her get settled within the band and feel at ease properly, because I see so much potential for her in this band. And I also suggest you check out more live performances for the new songs, and the September 11 livestream too just for comparison. Just to see how her performances have already changed and how she sounds and looks like she’s already getting more comfortable with all of this. Because her position must be so incredibly difficult and stressful right now, which is another reason I advocate for giving her grace. It’s a very delicate moment for the band, and what we need to do is trust that Mike and the others are acting with the band’s best interest in mind. Ah and one last thing: she does get emotional. Try listening to her singing Waiting For The End live. She actually legit gets choked up with it, and it’s clear the song means something to her.
Chester embraced how performances needed to work to sound better live. Watch Rock AM Ring 2004. From early on he knew the rules to sound better than studio. Embrace the energy. Fuck the script you know the lyrics its your songs but perfection of pitch? perfect syllable length? etc? unimportant. Emotion, energy, get the crowd in it. And the big one is wield your secondary instrument properly (the crowd) which in that performance both Mike and Chester do so damn well.
@@Keon753 really? you're going to compare Chester from 20 years ago? He was also younger, more energetic, etc. They've already said in interviews, if any of you actually cared as much as you claim to, that they've had to lower the keys for the older songs to match Emily's vocal range. She doesn't have the same range the Chester had. Not a lot of vocalists did. He was unique...but he's also gone now. Time to move on.
@@DFilthySmurf huh? Did i say anywhere i was upset at the change? My dude i think Emily is rocking it. Shes taking a bit of time to find her place on stage, find her energy, her antics, her performance space chemistry with the rest of the band, however thats expected. I see zero problem with pitch change, like i stated that shit isnt important live anyway. I dont know where you think im saying them being back is a bad thing. I see a lot of that same band that got me hooked then back now. The fun, the smiles, the obvious just enjoyment and simple happiness of just getting to perform. I think emily is a great fit to move forward into a new era, whilst still keeping warm chester's memory. She fits on stage, shes got great chemistry with mike, and she was a big fan clearly as well, which you can see in the earliest performances as shes trying to find herself within the groups dynamic on stage, you can see the nerves, see the kinda disbelief a bit in her. Shes a fan just like us who has found herself in the position of now *being* in the band. Which is crazy. I like her voice and i think shes a good fit. I was merely explaining the phenomenom of how chester used to do the trick of *sounding better live* cause too many people think thats about trying to be perfect on stage. But its actually kinda the opposite.
Linkin Park is killing this new chapter. And since you asked, yes you are being way too harsh. I've heard a ton of live performances and NONE of them sound as good as studio except Freddy Mercury who somehow elevates to the live occasion.
Haven't seen anything of the Fredster live but I know a low of Queen songs thanks to my Nan, so that might be a good shout for a reaction based on that recommendation 👀 Thanks for sharing your opinion. I disagree, but that's the beauty of opinions, we can all have our own 🤝
Oh don't worry Chesters Mother and Son are. They called it a betrayal. She mentioned that Mike often made fun of Chester saying " Were going to replace you with a girl." But yeah keep up the idgaf vibe you got going there. You don't look douchy at all.
It’s the era of hyper-feminism so even if they’re worse than their male counterparts, we aren’t allowed to say so because “miSoG0nY” or some variation of that bullshit 🫠
@@TeddyGreyOSShe's worse than Chester 100% but that's an unfair comparison for anyone since Chester was too good, she might be worse but in no way is she a bad singer she fits right in with Lincoln park imo and this song was the first time I heard her, she also can only get better don't forget Chester had to start from somewhere. I bet there were times where people were hating on him. When ur alive u get destroyed by critics but when you die suddenly people care and call you a legend just the way the world works and it's sad.
@@Mitch-nx2ic oh shut up. what about the time when he took over stone temple pilot? wasn't the the same level of disrespect too? those family of hypocrites can just shut the hell up
I do disagree with you, but I like how you make up your own mind and aren't afraid to vocalise it, I honestly don't see any other reaction channel do that. I get what you mean about the emotion, I saw someone mention it and I think they're right, where Chester was emotional in his singing, while Emily is also emotional, she taps much more into her anger and fury when she sings. Honestly I like it alot. It's different, but how she sings is also similar enough that it works in Linkin Park. I feel they made the right choice with her. I think she sounds great. And I found the band with Meteora and Minutes To Midnight, so the new music is like custom made for me lol.
Thank you for not only listening to what I said, but for also disagreeing and yet still finding common ground 🤝 I completely agree about the emotionality! She needs to tap into that anger more and I really hope they've written songs that can showcase that. Also congrats on feeling like the album is custom made for you haha I love it when that happens to me so I'm glad you get that feeling even if I'm not really feeling it so far! I'm still holding out for a banger tho, I know LP will have something on the new album 🙏
@@TeddyGreyOS Well I saw in an interview that Emptiness machine was written before Emily was on board, so this is the first song that she participated in the making of, so I'm excited for the rest of the album for sure! I highly recommend if you have time someday, to check out her performance of Crawling, honestly I think that brings out her vocal style the best. It's brutal, blood-curdling and emotional. I'm holding off on seeing them live until next year when Emily is far more comfortable and confident in performing live with the band in front of these huge crowds, I definitely think she has it and was the right choice. Hope you will give the album a shot when it comes out though, just for Shinoda's writing and producing alone I think it's worth your time even if you aren't a fan of Emily's singing.
@@nathalievandijk you'll have to explain to me how the projection of emotion can possibly be nuanced... If she wants to sound scared I'm sure she could project that. So I'd expect the same if she's angry... I'd expect to hear that. There's nothing nuanced about it if I don't hear or feel it, it just means it wasn't present. And that's fine. We don't need to make excuses up for people.
@@jaylino15exactly my point. According to him LP should've searched for a singer who lives in pain all the time. 😂😂😂 what a criteria. And to add this guy is more of a Chester fanboy than he is of LP. He doesn't even know that Mike, Brad & Rob are the original founders of LP and he's ready to critique that they should've started with another band name 😂😂😂😂. such a noob RUclipsr 😂😂😊
Awesome reaction....heavy is their crown. Does anyone realize how much balls Emily has...she was surely aware of the fact that a rail of shitstorm may come her way. And so it did.... But she is there...with Mike and the other members....they went through pain and sorrow. Now it's time to move on....without a white flag🔥 Much respect❤
I am no expert but I often heard that certain poses help a lot with screaming, tonality and breathing. So I think the kneeling down is just something you do to help you with the scream. As for not screaming full length and falling down, It is very hard to scream that long and she is jsut giving it all she got which I just respect a lot. Chester mostly, and always later on, did his scream in Given Up in 2 screams. As of the Bass making her unhearable after that, well... that might just be a thing because of the microphone recording it. Especially if that was a built in phone microphone, they tend to not be good at picking up different frequencies at once all too well.
People said this in the live chat but she still didn't even go up a tonal shift as she did in the studio version... Nobody's even mentioned it 🤦♂️ Also dude, the microphone thing was a joke... Women's voices don't sound actually different with bass differentials lmao.
This is my favorite song on the album. It doesn't push their sound of the comfort zone but it's a great single to show they're back to their roots. This is the perfect combo of Minute to Midnight, Hybrid Theory and Meteora. It's perfect.
Your opinion on this song is absolute dog shit to me Teddy, but I love you for being honest what you think and not pretending to like something you don't. Huge respect for always being honest, and I hope you never change.
Why should they rename? Do people not remember that Chester was not in linkin park originally? He joined after they started. That’s sort of spitting in Chester’s face honestly saying his band and his music and legacy are not allowed to continue and must be shoved into a box and locked away.
They were actually called xero, they changed their name to linkin Park after Chester joined. But from a branding standpoint, they have no reason to change the name. Linkin Park is established and they're not really changing music styles. They still sound like Linkin Park
So what you’re saying, is that they were called Xero. Then Chester joined, and they changed it to Linkin Park. So how is Chester not the reason for the change then? They literally weren’t Linkin Park without Chester… You’re right, from a branding and business perspective, it makes sense not to change the name. But all that tells me is that they’re profiting from the death of Chester Bennington. I personally won’t be supporting their music from this point forward. I think it’s disrespectful to his memory and shame on everyone that can’t see through this obvious marketing ploy.
@@TeddyGreyOSthey don’t need a liar for a supporter! Chester as you know was a vocal replacement from the time he auditioned he wasn’t an original member! Mikes band doesn’t need a name change and hes done almost everything for his band! Do you remember that Chester tried to make it on his own before and couldn’t while in linkin park?
@@TeddyGreyOSIf they were really trying to cash in on Chester, they wouldn't reform at all and would keep releasing remasters with unfinished demos. Hell, if they wanted to sell out all the way, they would make new songs with an AI Chester voice
Why would Mike Shinoda need to profit from the death of Chester? They were good friends, but its Mike's band, and Chester chose to take his own life... what's Mike supposed to do? Plus, have you any idea how rich Mike Shinoda will be? The last thing he needs to do is profit from anything! He just wants to carry on making music with his band! Shame on you for suggesting otherwise!
The eyes at 5.20 had me dead 😂 like 10 seconds before saying "theres still just nothing" and trailed off, probably along the thought of her sounding generic, and then getting absolutley pumped for her scream, i love emily as the new voculist, not a replacement, but a female who can at times sound reminiscent of chester himself, while also having her own sound, brilliant selection if you ask me
Usually, I agree with most of what you say, but in this case, you're talking shit! The live scream is at the end of a 2 hour set, 26 or so songs in, and she still holds it for a good 12/13 seconds! Chester (legend that he is) rarely hit 17 seconds live- give the girl a break!! Emily is doing a fantastic job, and Linkin Park (Mike's band, so why should he rename it???) are back with a bang!!! 🤘
I really didn’t. So much for a “fact”. Let me return the favour: Opinions are subjective. If you cannot handle that fact, then perhaps reaction channels aren’t the one for you kid.
Saying Emily's vocals had low emotion in them is such a weird take because you're comparing that directly to Chester regardless of how you look at it.The problem with this is that Chester was a very emotionally and mentally broken person based on what we know. We cannot expect nor hope Emily to be the same. The emotion that Chester had in his vocals where the result of him expressing his depression and the trauma's he experienced in life.
so then by default her performances aren’t going to be enough for those who listen to Linkin Park for the emotionality within the vocals… I’m one of those people… hence why I didn’t like it. I liked the tempo of the beat, the chords, Mikes rapping, but when it comes to those vocals, I NEEEEEED EMOTION. It offsets Mike’s often monotone rapping style, whereas Emily’s voice just adds to it, and it doesn’t pair anywhere near as well as it should.
@@TeddyGreyOS If you're hoping for Linkin Park to bring back what you felt with Chester then you're out of luck brother. As an artist Chester was a once in a lifetime situation. What made him so good is that mentally he wasn't so good. You say you need emotion but there was emotion just not the traumatized, mentally messed up depressed emotion that we've come to know from Chester. Expecting what Chester brought us from her means she'll lose all the time and that's why I choose to ignore the differences otherwise it wouldn't be a fair shot for Emily. On the other hand it might be just time. We've heard Chester for almost two decades. Let's review 17+ years from now.
@@TeddyGreyOSthere was emotion, actually there was plenty of it, just not Chester's...its Emily's emotions. You can clearly hear her hunger to convince people that she's a good fit, that she has what it takes...and the lyrics aswell, its INTENTIONAL. Also, this is LOL's anthem, they got to keep this in mind meaning this song HAD TO be liked by a lot of people who probably never heard a rock song in their life (hence the very simple and catchy hook). I honestly think that we should just wait for the album before jumping to conclusions...at the end of the day, we shouldn't have the white flag out before the war..
We don't want a vocalist to be as tortured as Chester, we want healthy people. I love Chester and it's horrible that we had to let him go like that. He was worth so much but he couldn't heal. We have no right to demand someone broken just to enable their loss. I hope that makes sense as it's not meant to be disrespectful at all❤
@@TeddyGreyOSI agree with that one person that said Chester was a once in a lifetime trauma-depressed filled singer. Who wants to find another tortured person like that? This is a new era of linkin park. I know you want emotion, but she is putting her own emotion her own voice in her song and old linkin park songs. People will never be satisfied because they want the same thing like before. I get it, but don’t get it really
"this is what you asked for, heavy is the crown" admitting that Chester's crown is heavy? a lot of fan wanted her to say that she cannot bear the crown
Yes because famously, sports commentators HAVE TO have played the game before being able to comment on it, right? Idiot 💀 Come back to my channel when you finally develop that brain cell.
@@TeddyGreyOS But Chester only reached 17 seconds on Live at AOL Music Sessions, then never did it again. I think Emily has great merit since she sings for 2 hours. At Emily's age, Chester preferred not to force his voice so much since his last albums were like that.
If this was arcane then chester was season 1 and emily was season 2… nothing changes for season 1. Nobody will tarnish what it did. And season 1 is permanently embedded into our hearts. Everyone is fixated on emily’s history and how she’s ruining or copying his image but that’s just shallow minded. If you really love chester, do you really think chester’s legacy is this low to a point where it can be ruined easily by the new singer? LP is on its new chapter simple as that. She actually stated in the new interview that she looks up to him and chester inspired her to start singing. To teddy, You are open to your opinion which is admirable, understandable and you have some points but c’mon there was a part where you’re just nitpicking every single gesture she did and that feels so off to watch and that’s my opinion.
If you watch the memorial concert again, you will understand that Emily has nothing to do with being generic. That concert was all about waiting for the next singer and thinking, "Oh, this could be a good replacement." I made that mistake too. Then all the featured artists started to sing, and it all sounded like Linkin Park featuring someone. The difficulty comes from your brain fighting against the acceptance that Emily is the perfect fit and has the LP sound. Pop singers can be generic, but even then, you can find someone special. You might subjectively say that you don't like this, but objectively, it's not generic at all. It's wrong to call this or the first song generic.
me personally i love linkin park with chester and he is gone they have to move forward. what ever they are ready to do is up to them. from a middle perspective they could have done like "linkin park 2.0 " or changed the name entirely as to not put the pressure and focus on emily "filling" or "replacing" chester in the band or even what alot of other bands do "linkin park + emily" it probably would have cut a ton of the backlash in half. Alot of people have such a protective and connection with chesters legacy due to the message in his songs are connected to the darker parts of our lives and people tend to be more defense and protective of those. but her voice is amazing and i think she fits well.
Linkin Park 2.0 would've been a good shout! Just something to separate the two. I said in a video that I'm sad I'm only just listening to this music so I'll never get to see Linkin Park. Someone in the comments said "you can because they're touring now", and I instantly thought, yeah but it's not the same. If some people think it's the same band and nothing has changed then fair enough, but I disagree 🤷♂️
Technically they weren't called Linkin Park before Chester come into the picture. They were called Xero. And when Chester came into the picture they picked the name Linkin Park together. I'll pretty sure there's even a video with a Chester talking about the name Linkin Park and how they came to it. However I do agree with another comment saying they shouldn't change because they still sound like Linkin Park. So if they had a different name people would probably give them crap for "sounding like Linkin Park" if they weren't named Linkin Park. So you're really screwed either way haha
For those who don't know this video is special. Haters on Emily saying she's ass. Haters on Faker saying he's washed. Faker won Worlds 2023 3-0 Emily made a statement with a 17 second vocal. Mike: Today's going to be the day you notice. Cause I'm tired of explaining what the joke is. Emily: This is what you asked for. Heavy is the Crown The Crown is heavy indeed. Faker didn't wear the crown. Emily can't replace Chester. But that does not mean they are worth nothing. They'll prove it to you
If people have shrines for Chester there is something wrong. Not that it's him per se but the fact that they actually worship a person/band is insane and they should be examined mentally. These lyrics are FOR League of legends so ofc the lyrics are for that game and the upcoming championship. It is afterall probably the biggest esports event in the world
@@Bakemer94 I imagine people have shrines to Chester because Chester's artistry helped them through their own tough times. Is it infinitely healthy? Arguably not. Is finding a crutch until you can conquer your demons on your own better than giving in and ending it all? Undeniably. So yes, something is wrong...but not for this action. Finding comfort in the art of people who have been in similar places can be the first step to getting better.
I know you heard it based off your expression lol but you didn't comment on it. My favorite part of this song is when Emily just periodically screams during Mike's verses. It's very very faint in the background bit you can tell she's just fucken SENDING IT
Best takes and reactions I've seen after scrolling. You just get it bro. Much respect. We all miss Chester but Emily is fire and can carry the torch. I'm glad you see it. Can't wait for more LP and your takes on them. 🤙
I agree with you, I couldn't feel any emotion in the chorus, except for the last one. In the last one I felt the same anger I felt in the scream... Have you ever watched any of her performances with her other band, Dead Sara? It's a completely different thing; she is much more relaxed. Here’s an exemple if you’re interested: ruclips.net/video/Ai_W8qvHBMQ/видео.htmlsi=8_6Mi9Df2YIm5nMQ I think she’s got what it takes… she’s just nervous because, let's face it, heavy is the crown...
Its tough because if Chester sand this exact song, you probably wouldn't of said half the negatives you did. You have to remember that LP have like 4 albums more than people tend to think about, and they arn't full of bangers from front to back (for me personally). If Chester was still alive we wouldn't of got this album, but ironically its the album I wish they had made with him after Meteora.
I think Emily is absolutely incredible on this track. And the lyricism is poignant, the legacy has been passed down and there's the weight of pressure and expectations from big Chester fans. 'Heavy is the crown', now Emily has been 'coronated' as the next vocalist. And 'this is what you asked for', like 'I'm trying to give you what you want'. Sadly a lot of fans won't give Emily a chance (veiled misogyny!) when they're simply crafting something, without the intention to replace Chester, but to honour his memory.
3 or 4 seconds short bruh.2 hour show,26 songs and she kneels like that because shes exhausting the remaining amount of the note same reason people hold their hands a certain way to get the sound their looking for.also its not a professional recordings homie.
Hi Teddy, I appreciate your opinion and you stuck to it. For me someone who has watched all their live shows so far. I just have to disagree with you on a few things. The kneeling thing is a vocal technique that a lot of singers use. I think these two songs do sound generic but I saw another comment describe it perfectly that they just perfected this sound and it's their sound and their sound has been mainstream rock type sound for 20 years. The emotion thing is a tough one. While on tour there are certain songs that she gets really emotional on, waiting for the end specifically. But another comment said she screams from a different place than chester more from rage than despair. I have to admit that as she performs more and more she starts relaxing herself more and that's just being more comfortable on stage and rooting herself in the music more. Chester best performance was live in texas for example, that was like 6 or 7 years into the band. Great reaction, interesting to see a different perspective. I love her and I just think if this is where she is now? She will do so much better later! There are some great live songs with Emily I recommend. Keys to the Kingdom live debut LA, lost any live version they all great(from zero live stream has the best quality), My December Hamburg, Lost in the echo hmaburg, any performance on one step closer she nails that song(from zero live stream best quality).
Thank you my friend! Glad you decided to click on the thumbnail when it was suggested! I’m fairly new to the genre so you can see the inception of my madness in the “Journey Through Metal” playlist on my channel 🍿👀
Line up changes is normal in a band especially if the founders of the band are still in it. I also find it weird people esp Chesters Mom and son saying all these stuff which are obviously not true cuz the band grieved as well. It is as if they are just making this drama.
I'm hearing this for the first time right along with you. I love Linkin Park and I am enjoying their new songs. I found your channel a few days ago and have been enjoying your journey. It brings me back to my high school years when I made the switch from Rap and R&B to Nu Metal and Alternative Rock. Keep up the good work man. Thanks.
Heavy is the crown is real!y doing wonders with her voice. I am defiently loving her here. I will miss Chester, i grew up listening to Linkin Park, but i am also looking forward to the addition to the band. I love her voice. Shes amazing live as well.
I heard people said "she's not chester" "this is not linking park". And now this guy said "they're trying too hard". Like I'm just confused what ppl want in life nowadays.
that’s because opinions are subjective ffs… we don’t all have to think and feel the same thing. The fuck is wrong with people and their hive mind concepts?! Think for yourself and stop worrying about what other people want in life.
@@TeddyGreyOS you're not wrong on that, but I do think you are being a little too harsh on her, considering it's the first time they done it live, and it's like their last song of the show after an hour(or so) of performing. I think You sound like you know how to do music so It's not hard to constructively criticize them instead of being annoyed. And no I'm not worried Abt wht ppl think/want, I'm baffled
18:21 About the kneeling while screaming, it's actually a useful technique that a lot of metal artists do when they scream. The kneeling actually lowers your center of gravity and can help improve your breath control, which is incredibly helpful when you're trying to belt out intense vocals like Emily's full-bodied scream here. I was recently at a Marilyn Manson concert, and even HE did something similar during a lot of his screams.
@TeddyGreyOS No, but being the new face of LP has nothing to do with it when it's a common enough technique that even legends such as Marilyn Manson do it, too. Is she supposed to just NOT crouch to help her breath control just because Chester did it before her? And still belt out insane full-bodied screams?
I’m sure they all have their individual reasons for disliking the song. Difference is, I wouldn’t immediately call them “haters” simply for having a different opinion to me. Don’t apologise though, I’m able to handle this fact. I’m sorry you aren’t able to do the same.
It's time man, you need to react to One More Light. They dedicated that song to Chris Cornell and a lot of people think constantly singing that song, thinking of Chris and how he ended it, contributed to that horrible night we lost Chester. Especially the live performances are heart wrenching. I think you're ready
I actually enjoy Emily's vocals! I've really enjoyed both their singles! Also, Oli from BMTH always kneels when he screams, I think it helps them squeeze all the air out their lungs - I dunno because I can't hold a note for my life but that's what I've always thought! Piss poor is a very harsh assessment of her live imho haha, I like her tonality more than a lot of other female metal vocalists!
I appreciate your opinion since you are a newer Linkin Park fan. I am an OG LP fan. I was lucky enough to see LP with Chester 32 times live. He is a one of a kind singer but in those 32 performances Chester was not always on. The live performances we tend to watch on RUclips are the ones with the highest views so that means they sound the best. The 1st time she performed Heavy is the Crown live in Germany was better then the UK set. Placement in a set is important at UK i believe it was the 24th song. I am ok with Emily, LP is in good hands. RIP Chester.
I feel like that Heavy is the Crown is a homage to Faint especially with the wording they used and Emelys long as scream. Pretty similar and reminiscent of Chesters 30+ second scream in Faint.
First day Linkin Park fan here. I know people won't care about my opinion but seriously with these new songs I really feel like I'm back to my teenage years. I love the new singer, Chester is gone but we need to move on, as life moves on no matter we like it or not. I'm still not really convinced with Emily singing the old songs but the new songs are really fire
I agree it wasn't the best scream ever, but I think they are still working on it for live performance. As for the crouching thing, it is a vocal technique and it has nothing to do with imitating Chester. As for the time of the scream it is purposefully 1 second less than Chester which I believe is respectful because if it would have been the opposite people would have been pissed and said she was showing off or something. She did good on the song in general, but I do agree that since the focus is on the scream, she unfortunately has to nail it for the song to work. It wasn't anywhere perfect, but I don't think it was as bad as you make it sound... As for falling down, I think we can attribute it to the nerves. Also, don't forget she is doing that after 2 hours of songs as it was just before the last song of the show.
That is what bothers me. There are no emotions in her voice. It is even more apparent when you hear her voice in isolation. It has to be more than being able to scream.
Your criticisms are legit but if you hear Mike's interviews on why Emily was chosen, her voice felt right dor Linkin Park. Plus she has a very different and unique style of singing in dead sara but its such a toss, of trying to sound closer to chester's styleand have some uniqueness too. Guess his album was just to tell people theyre the same and they'll experiment more with her vocals going forward. Or maybe there are other tracks that do.
It's actually easier in my experience to scream kneeled down like that, because you can position your diaphragm to push the air out more focused. Especially for sustained screams, doing it standing straight up is much more uncomfortable to do, and you have nothing to brace on.
I do think that the line “This is what you asked for” is to me related to the actual league of legends event that this song was for. As well, “you asked for this” towards the fans of league of legends
Love your reactions but your knowledge of singing is a bit lacking. Chester had an unusually high vocal range for a male (actually more like a female in pitch) and (don't know if you saw LP live with Chester) but he wasn't always consistent - perhaps because of his struggles and sometimes his 'self medication'. I'm one of those huge Chester fans (with the tattoos etc), I believe he was one of the best singers ever to live, I respect all he has done to help others and support good causes & am devastated by his loss still today. Emily is doing a great job (in my opinion), she was chosen by Mike and the band & it's not her fault that Chester isn't here. If people don't like her - for whatever reason - then they don't have to buy the albums or concert tickets; there are plenty of other bands to listen to. Sad and sickening to see some of the hate she is already getting online by people that haven't been to the shows & before the album has even dropped. Just give her a chance.
I’ve never said that I won’t give her a chance. On the contrary I’ve repeated in both reactions to Emily now that I wouldn’t give up and would try to find a song that I personally enjoy. I feel like most of you are just making up this insane level of hate and mistaking it for the genuine dislike of the direction LP have gone in. It doesn’t have to be that deep brev, people have opinions and if you don’t share them, that’s fine. But to tell someone their personal opinion and taste is wrong is a bit fucking weird to me.
@@TeddyGreyOS Hey mate, I feel like you may have confused the 2 points that I made. I apologise for that because (reading back my comment) I wasn't very clear. I do agree with you that her live performance wasn't perfect - my first point was that Chester's live performances were not always perfect - we are all human and all make mistakes sometimes. Regarding the hate towards Emily; I was speaking generally about a lot of online content I have seen (about her personal life) not about opinions of the LP direction - it wasn't directed at you personally. I understand how you may have read it that way and I apologise for my lack of clarity. I enjoy your content a lot, I am subscribed and I look forward to more of your content. Peace to you.
So her live scream here is 13 seconds compared to 15 on the album version. And the audio recording isn't the best. I'm shure there's nothing underwhelming when you're there live.
I was at the live concert and I can confirm 100% that she absolutely killed it live. Managing that 13 second scream after singing for over two hours is no small feat and the crowd went crazy over it. Besides that I think it's quite unfair to judge her performance over what is a phone recording especially regarding the bass guitar drowning her out, with the live acoustics there was none of that issue at all.
They did two tours since this song came out, the one you watched was a live from the second one. They sang this song as a surprise on the first one which was like on Sept 24th, she sounded a lot better there + she held the scream for as long, if not longer than the studio version so I'd recommend you to check a video of that performance out. I don't know why she messed it up on the second live performance but yeah she was a lot better in the first one
I'd say Its less about biology and more about the mix at the set plus the quality of the camera that recorded the live version. this looks like it was shot from a fan's camera. Where you stand in a concert always has an affect on sound clarity. Its not like they were having the audio recorded directly. I'll admit, her big scream didn't hit the same note as the studio and that was disappointing, however, hunching over is a very normal way to provide breath support for screamers, and personally, I think 11 seconds is still good live. Even Chester had to break his "given up" scream into 2 breaths live, and kinda hit flat on some of his distorted vocals live. I love 'em both, and even though we may disagree on Emily, I still love your reactions. Hopefully she'll be able to win you over, but that's gonna depend on the new album. They started generic with a radio friendly single, and they are still keeping it radio/media friendly for Riot with this one, but what will the meat and potatoes of the album be? Some of their best songs weren't singles imo.
I started with LP over 20 years ago and I am SO happy for them!! I had tickets to the concert last night in Seoul, Korea. It was EPIC. The crowd was insane. The energy was incredible. I lost my voice screaming. Mike looked so happy on stage. People chanted Linkin Park Linkin Park numerous times. But at one point everyone started chanting Emily, Emily!!! She was amazing. I'm personally so thankful that I get to see them on stage again. Every time the tone was brought down you felt Chester in the room. I have zero complaints. I think they made the best decision. I feel blessed seriously that I got to be there last night.
It's like their 25th or 26th song on their setlist. If this was their first 10 songs, she might actually reach 16 seconds just like in the studio recording, or even more 🔥💯🔥💯🔥💯🔥
This is new Linkin Park. People need to get used to it cause there will be a lot of it. In fact it's Linkin Park that brought me to this video. And if someone doesn't like it, then why do they watch it?😂 My enjoyment of this isn't anyone's problem.😃It's 9,5/10 from me. Great reaction!
i really appreciate loads of your opinions and reactions. Its a tricky situation either way you look at it. They are damned if they do and damned if they dont. There is no perfect solution for everybody out there. I feel like as long as they are happy again and passionate about what they make, its fine. The only thing that really distracts me, is that the music video for League of Legends you have on Screen, doesnt pause when you pause. It keeps running, so its not synced with the audio at all anymore.
Heavy is the crown just perfect fit For the crew it was heavy to move forward with this crown of their old music and for Emily this crown of Chester was even more heavy And with all of this it fits perfectly for World Cup I love Chester and miss him. I was excited when they told that Linkin Park comes back but for me Emptiness Machine was just bad and disappointing So this song makes me believe that this girl has a chance to become new era for this band
I like the reaction you did to the studio version, but honestly I can't agree with you on the Live version. 1.It's kind of unfair that you listened to the live version right after you finished the studio version, the quality couldn't be the same, not to mention it was just an audience filming it with a phone camera. 2.They put this song almost at the end of the concert before performing it, and it was a two hours long concert. 3.She couldn't hold that scream as long as the studio version, because the next chorus is about to catch up, she needed to breathe in, bro.
Have you check out El Estepario Siberiano? He's one of the greatest living drummers. Start with his cover of Eminem's Godzilla, then his one handed stuff.
She's not getting drowned out by the bass live. It's the phone recording. I'm sure her voice came through just fine live. And the "tonal shift" you keep talking about is there. Again, the phone recording is just bad, especially if you're that close to the speakers.
I find her voice very powerful and it takes it to a different level. I don't get people saying there is no Emotion. I don't agree I can feel her Emotion in this.
bro, regarding the long scream part, you gotta realize and take into consideration that this is the 26th song in a 27 song set. she's already been going for 2 hours.
My only complain about people saying it sounds “generic” is that Linkin park is the reason it’s “generic”. They invented and perfected the style with hybrid theory and meteora, and moved onto new things. Other nu metal/metalcore bands are still copying the hybrid theory formula because it’s so perfect
Edit: imo it’s also why they didn’t change the name, as if they did go by a new name but released these two songs, people would be complaining that it sounds too much like linkin park and they’re trying to replicate the old sound etc etc
I agree with this statement 🤝 though I still don't think there's anything majorly standing out to me about her vocals - of course besides the tonal shifted scream at the end which was awesome!
FACTS
I think it's fine, people are overthinking and comparing too much
A million bands sprouted from the Linkin Park foundation. It's natural that people who came across the band after their genesis feel like they've heard that sound...but trust me, it was a powerful thing in music when the scene broke.
To me it sounds like a Linkin Park song which I really missed for a long time. I am very happy.
I saw someone say Chester screamed in pain and Emily screams in rage, and I think that’s a great distinction.
I like the way you said "I saw someone say....". I think that says so much about your values.
Perfect way to say it men.. because right now.. Emily is bursting because of rage..because of this haters who dont know how to appreciate great voice and music.. just shut up and listen..learn to enjoy people..
It doesn't matter, it works for their new songs.
According to these haters LP should've purposefully looked for a singer who is under pain. 😂
Different personalities, great talents .
And about the Name changing: Mike is the original founder of the band, they met Chester later by auditioning for co-vocals. Mike wrote most of the old songs, he produces…why should he change the name of HIS band?! I dont get it….🤷🏼♀️
Ok, well don't burst a blood vessel trying to figure it out 🙏
Mike’s ego is not big enough to seriously believe people think of him and not Chester when they think of LP.
42 here n the same, man.
I'm actually playing them both on repeat. I'm enjoying them a lot! Fits right into my LP playlist.
As for everything else, it’s just gonna take time for people to get used to her and to accept that she’s in LP now.
And on top of all of this, people who bring these things up are doing so because they don’t actually have any actually valid arguments in regards to the music, so they’ve pretty much already lost any debate.)
Anyway, you know, I think we all need time and be open to the new sound, and also receive the new album with an open heart and an open mind.
Bro are you writing a fucking book?
Linkin Park is killing this new chapter.
And since you asked, yes you are being way too harsh.
I've heard a ton of live performances and NONE of them sound as good as studio except Freddy Mercury who somehow elevates to the live occasion.
Mercury was on another level for sure
Haven't seen anything of the Fredster live but I know a low of Queen songs thanks to my Nan, so that might be a good shout for a reaction based on that recommendation 👀
Thanks for sharing your opinion. I disagree, but that's the beauty of opinions, we can all have our own 🤝

@TeddyGreyOS yes you should react to Freddie Mercury. He was a legend.

@@ThaiDaher Real misogyny does happen, sure. But when you call everything misogynistic, you dilute the meaning of the actual word…
I hear a lot of emotion from Emily. But it's so subtile and nuanced i think 99% of people miss it.
Now it's time to move on....without a white flag🔥
Much respect❤
Nobody's even mentioned it 🤦♂️
Also dude, the microphone thing was a joke...

Your opinion on this song is absolute dog shit, it's amazing and I can't wait for more
Why should they rename?
They literally weren’t Linkin Park without Chester…
You’re right, from a branding and business perspective, it makes sense not to change the name.
I will tell you a fact about yourself
You just got humbled.
I hear another number #1 song 🔥🔥
If it's so easy to perform this song live, why don't you give it a try and tell us how it goes?
Arcane s2 had better be as good as s1 was!
"Who is he, Sun Tzu?!?" 😂
Yes.
me personally i love linkin park with chester and he is gone they have to move forward. what ever they are ready to do is up to them. from a middle perspective they could have done like "linkin park 2.0 " or changed the name entirely as to not put the pressure and focus on emily "filling" or "replacing" chester in the band or even what alot of other bands do "linkin park + emily" it probably would have cut a ton of the backlash in half.
Faker won Worlds 2023 3-0
Emily made a statement with a 17 second vocal.
Mike: Today's going to be the day you notice. Cause I'm tired of explaining what the joke is.
Emily: This is what you asked for. Heavy is the Crown
The Crown is heavy indeed. Faker didn't wear the crown. Emily can't replace Chester. But that does not mean they are worth nothing. They'll prove it to you
I really like this 🤌
If people have shrines for Chester there is something wrong. Not that it's him per se but the fact that they actually worship a person/band is insane and they should be examined mentally. These lyrics are FOR League of legends so ofc the lyrics are for that game and the upcoming championship. It is afterall probably the biggest esports event in the world
Settle down bro
@@francesoxberry6816 He didn't say anything outrageous, and he's right.
It's very very faint in the background bit you can tell she's just fucken SENDING IT
Just let them boys play. They were as much apart of the band as Chester.
Here’s an exemple if you’re interested: ruclips.net/video/Ai_W8qvHBMQ/видео.htmlsi=8_6Mi9Df2YIm5nMQ
I think she’s got what it takes… she’s just nervous because, let's face it, heavy is the crown...
Sadly a lot of fans won't give Emily a chance (veiled misogyny!) when they're simply crafting something, without the intention to replace Chester, but to honour his memory.
it's a vocalist. she sounds good. why the fuq do any of you dorks got issues?
3 or 4 seconds short bruh.2 hour show,26 songs and she kneels like that because shes exhausting the remaining amount of the note same reason people hold their hands a certain way to get the sound their looking for.also its not a professional recordings homie.
he is comparing her every breath and step with chester its unfair and sad.
😂😂😂 Love your reactions. Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷
Idk who this guy is but he does the most entertaining reactions ive ever seen 🤣💯
These songs aren’t bad at all. Better that some of the shit they released in their later albums.
So you listened to a studio version and then some crappy recording from someone's phone and call it underwhelming. Yeah right.
I laughed loudly “there is no more room” hahaha
I’m just waiting to watch him react to “bleed it out” and connect those dots
There's no more room to go anywhere 😂😂😂
Separate from this, can you check out Castle of Glass. That song is so beautiful and very mellow compared to the rest.
Thanks.
" subtitles don't work " brother this is a riot games production they have everything!
about "no emotion" take, we will need a reaction to "From Zero" album when it comes out
absolutely loving these new songs so far, both have given my chills and made me emotional. love her voice and cant wait for the new album
@@ipc2082 HYPOCRISY at it's peak
@@ipc2082 some people are just an epitome of hypocricy
18:21 About the kneeling while screaming, it's actually a useful technique that a lot of metal artists do when they scream. The kneeling actually lowers your center of gravity and can help improve your breath control, which is incredibly helpful when you're trying to belt out intense vocals like Emily's full-bodied scream here. I was recently at a Marilyn Manson concert, and even HE did something similar during a lot of his screams.
Marilyn Manson isn’t trying to be the new face of LP though…
@TeddyGreyOS No, but being the new face of LP has nothing to do with it when it's a common enough technique that even legends such as Marilyn Manson do it, too. Is she supposed to just NOT crouch to help her breath control just because Chester did it before her? And still belt out insane full-bodied screams?
Sorry Teddy, now you're sounding like every hater of Emily out there.
I’m sure they all have their individual reasons for disliking the song. Difference is, I wouldn’t immediately call them “haters” simply for having a different opinion to me. Don’t apologise though, I’m able to handle this fact. I’m sorry you aren’t able to do the same.
the critics of the live performance... makes no sense to me, i prefer the live version more than the studio one..
RIP Chester.
a new fan trying to speak as if he is the leader of the fan club hahaha this video made me angry tbh
I feel like that Heavy is the Crown is a homage to Faint especially with the wording they used and Emelys long as scream. Pretty similar and reminiscent of Chesters 30+ second scream in Faint.
"Waving that sword when the pen wont miss"
Classic MC.
I love that line so much!!
Theres no quality recordings of the song live yet
First day Linkin Park fan here. I know people won't care about my opinion but seriously with these new songs I really feel like I'm back to my teenage years. I love the new singer, Chester is gone but we need to move on, as life moves on no matter we like it or not. I'm still not really convinced with Emily singing the old songs but the new songs are really fire
The linkin park song you started singing that you were trying to remember the name of is, with you.
The bass is the best thing about this track. Whoever on the band came up with it has very good taste.
Dave Ferrell is the bass player in lp.
Dude is a bass legend
Live version 💥🔥
Kindly check out and react to the new girl group in the Philippines called ‘KAIA’! Their new song ‘Walang Biruan’ is so good, and the MV is a bop! 🔥🎶
You nailed it. That's exactly what it's about the heaviness of the crown of being Linkin Park and moving on
Love your reactions but your knowledge of singing is a bit lacking.
10/10❤❤❤❤❤❤❤! Loved LP then I loveeeee Lp now ❤❤❤❤❤
You literally miss Chester’s tormented soul. Plain and simple. Sorry they couldn’t find another tormented soul but who does
They did two tours since this song came out, the one you watched was a live from the second one.
I never fast forward. Take as many breaks and start over as much as you want. I watch for you and your perspective.
Blessings for your patience and thank you for your time 🙏
I started with LP over 20 years ago and I am SO happy for them!!
Considera que ela deu esse scream ao vivo e essa era a penúltima música cantada em um show de duas horas
totally called me out on the fast forwarding lol
i really appreciate loads of your opinions and reactions.
Heavy is the crown just perfect fit
For the crew it was heavy to move forward with this crown of their old music and for Emily this crown of Chester was even more heavy
And with all of this it fits perfectly for World Cup
I love Chester and miss him. I was excited when they told that Linkin Park comes back but for me Emptiness Machine was just bad and disappointing
So this song makes me believe that this girl has a chance to become new era for this band
What happened to the clip Timing ?😅
There is another live version where she does it a lot better and its a normal stance for her live performances
7:44 Music So Good I Can't Even Think Of Fast Forwarding
Please react to From Ashes To New - Monster In Me….they are Falling In Reverse’s little brother. Rapping, screaming, breakdowns, let’s go!!
Listen to the live scream in Germany. That's when the song was played for the first time.
That was epic.
Emily: screams for whole 17 seconds
TeddyGreyonStuff: She's still going. I can't escape her.
EMILY IS AMAZING ,CRY HATERS
I find her voice very powerful and it takes it to a different level. I don't get people saying there is no Emotion. I don't agree I can feel her Emotion in this.
She knees down to help with her dyofram and breathing technique. Chester did it for the same reason.
bro, regarding the long scream part, you gotta realize and take into consideration that this is the 26th song in a 27 song set. she's already been going for 2 hours.
Hi Teddy, You must see, learn this band: Imminence ,"Desolation"....React, please 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Chester would have chosen Emily himself to carry on the legacy I swear.
