So far the only video that accurately reproduces the annoying sway bar sound over a bump. Thank you.
I have 1999 Lexus ES 300 same problem that I’m having now I’ll fix it soon!
Thanks for the video very helpful!
284000 on my 2000 Avalon with original bushings. Making this noise. Not going to any more. Thank you so much for this video
this is an excellent video... clear, concise, and is perfect. Your videos are very well done. It is obvious you are a real pro at everything you do ! Thank you !
Jon Randall thanks I try to help please subscribe also subscribe to my other channel here’s a link ruclips.net/channel/UCvqsPzqAZfVv_gjBYUFqNdg
I had been changing my shocks several times without this noise going away. Thank you very much you solved my problem.
Picked up some new bushings and followed your directions. Easy considering I'm not that mechanically inclined. A+++++
Nice good job!!!
Just what I needed to confirm what's going on with my 2002 Avalon and fix it myself. Thanks!
Nice glad video came handy for u!!
Good video very detailed thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Perfect, that's what my Sequoia is doing, same exact noise. Thank you
2017 gx 460 went into the dealer twice for this quite annoying but glad u have a vid on this.
Richard Yoon yup DIY !!!!
Nicely done; thanks for all of the detailed explanation.
Welcome
Great tips! Thanks!
awesome video, thank you
Legend, my is200 started making this noise ... it knows is gettingreplaced....it done me well for last 7 years solid car otherwise 🙌🏽
Mahalo for your help I learned a lot from you , my wife has a Lexus and I wanna help fix it for her so I’ll be keeping up with you thanx again and aloha🤙🏽
Cool no problem... ask me anything if u need more help
@@RBTheMechanic Peace, i got a lil complex wit my 2014 is250 Sometimes when I turn the Steering wheel to make a left or a right turn i hear a lil knocking noise coming from the rear right and the front left and that same knock noise appears when I goes over a bump sometimes. I soon take it to the lexus dealer
@@sknnyshug ok let me know what the noise is. It can be somthing with suspension or the body frame I have had few Toyota’s with similar problem never found the actual problem but it was so wierd I think the welding points on the frame causes it
@@RBTheMechanic I was thinkin the same. I jus have to take it in for that noise diagnostic. 3 weeks wit the noise it jus appears out of nowhere and low mileage 70. It sounds like when u knock on a plastic glass... Thanks for responding
@@sknnyshug yup please let me know what they tell u
Excellent video!
Thank you
Good video. To the point.
Yup straight to the point
Lexus dealers do not sell the bushings as a set, unfortunately. Also, folks, check to make sure your spare tire is tightly secured down and the bolts from the suspension system, the struts, etc., are tight at the right torques.
Yeah dealer sell separately
Do you need both rear wheels lifted off the air by safety jacks in order to shake test the sway bar ?
Yeah cuz the bar put load on both end
I have a 2014 GS350 F AWD and no part store seems to sell it separately. Dealership is only place I haven't checked yet. Any suggestions?
What u mean separate? Bushing comes as set links I always buy separately
Thanks! Our RX-300 doesn't make the noise in the summer when it is 100 degrees, but does below 60. Does that still sound like a sway bar bushing?
Could be possability rubber will shrink in cold
Hi! I replaced the bones and stabilizer bushings but still that knocking sound. Can you give some advice! Can't be a suspension strut bearing?
It can be strut and strut mount so next step is to attack that
Check the caster arm bushings
I've replaced the rear sway bar links and bushings but the noise is still there. Any idea?
Now u need to double check for tightness in links and budding if all good it can be the struts
I hear clunking noise from the rear of my 2000 Toyota solara every time I go over a small bump or uneven roads.. I thought it might be the muffler but now I almost sure it's the bushing and sway bar links or even the struts going bad? What you think?
That is the main suspect!!
I ended up changing these on my Rx300 and i still have some noise. I'll just replace all rear control arms cause its been such a good car for me. 0 problems.
What about linkages and struts?
@@RBTheMechanic I'll check the linkages. Struts... Boots are torn but no leaking
@@Dansk55 check for play if boots r ripper just replace them
Good day! I have a Toyota Voxy 2010, alot of noise coming from the rear of the when drives on bad roads, can you help me out with that please?
U mean u head noise when going through bumps or rough road. Try check ur sway bar bushing and links same as I show in this video
*A little off topic, but within the same subject of suspension. I have inner tie rod ends for a '09 Camry I don't need, but my '04 GS300 does, they look indentical, are they interchangeable?*
Not sure they could be different in size so just search it up for ur car
@@RBTheMechanic Yeah I did. Doesn't really say lol. But they are identical with the eye test. But thanks anyway.
@@MRMAN-wb1tv yeah some time eyes can be wrong lol but u can always return it
@@RBTheMechanic I feel you lol. But I didn't buy them for the Lexus, they came with a suspension package for a Camry 2 years ago just didn't need em.
Hey- I know it's an old post, but does the car have to be on a lift to do this, or can you do it on the floor.
U can do it on floor just be safe with jack
Thanks . Great.
You are welcome!
Could this also be a potential symptom of a ‘07 rx350?
Diff setup but ur got same components
My 11 year old IS 250 is making a rattling noise upfront when I hit bumps. Could this be the same issue?
Yes it can be but take a better look check ball joint sway bar bushing strut strut mount any of these components can make this type of noise
Bout to get under my Lexus and see if the bushing has any play in it. Hit a burn tonight on the passenger side but the noise is coming from the driver side rear. So imma get under there and see if the sway bar will move when I shake it. Then if it does I’ll replace bushing.
Curb*
Is it dangerous if you don't fix it? Same problem on my Lexus GS 300 1999.
Depends if the busing or link is proble it’s not dangerous but if so thing else that can be big issue
I'll try this. My toyota has be driving me crazy with that noise.
Yeah check this and linkages common issues
me, too. Lexus IS250. I kept thinking it was something loose in the trunk, but I'm sure it must be the sway bar bushing. I'm gonna jack up my car tomorrow and check it out, now that I know what to look for. Oddly, my much older Solara has never made this noise.
@@LordPrometheous let me know what u find
@@RBTheMechanic I had a bad day at work, didn't get back til late tonight. I'll try to get to it when I'm done working today. My wife heard the noise when picking the car up from getting a punctured tire replaced. So now it's either figure it out, or listen to her complain every day for the rest of my life.
2014 Honda civic. Gonna make sure they don’t try to sell me new struts.
Ok
My entire rear end is wobbling while driving, any suggestions?
We’ll time to start doing some work shocks links bushing would be start
GOOD
I have the same problem but I think its the front sway bar bushings.
Yeah check front it could be li k struts mounts as well
Is it dangerous not to change it, if i don't car about the noise ?
No. The swaybar is just for the brakes. That's why there's an emergency brake. Sway bars can be removed and scrapped. It will make your car faster because the weight is removed. Im a professional mechanic.
I have a 97 toyota camry ive changed my rear swaybar links , swaybar bushings , new shocks & struts but idk why it still makes like a crunching sound from the rear end when going over bumps. Its really annoying what could it be? Can it be cheap bushings from autozone or something else ?
Luis Perez no it can be sway bar linkage or the strut mounts
Motor mount or strut monnt
Well that scares me I have clucking noise in my 2006 toyota camry I was gonna replace the struts an bushing but if you did an it still making the noise I probably won't idk
@@kelseyrainwater3918 did you find out which one it was? I have the same issue and I’m afraid the dealer will hose me being a girl
You definitely don't need to heat that, a wd40 will do
I have a Lexus IS250 2008 and it started to make noise on the rear like if I had tools
I’m going to replace bars very soon
Yeah check it and replace it do the bushings lao if u do the links
Im having the same problem with my is250 same year and everything it makes like a clunk sound when i go over bumps and especially if i have a lot of weight in the car
Do you know how much it is to fix and what was the problem?
@@coolguy8063 well the problem first need to be diagnosed most likely it might be ur shocks it can cost over $700 how ever for you do that I would recommend u check sway bar linkage and bushing it came be around $300job if ur do it urself $120. How ever if u discover the shocks/struts are bad I would also change the linkages since they r connected so it would be best rot start off changing the linkages and bushing and go from there
This might be my problem on my 49,000 mile 2010 Lexus 460.
Yes it can be
Is this a es300 or is300?
Joaquin es 300
You didn't want to at least try PB Blaster/Liquid wrench first? Torches should be an absolute last resort.
Pollo Frito been doing this for years some times u get lucky but some times the damn thing gets stuck and then it’s mid way not loose or right and it wount go no where even after u heat it because it got rust stuck between the threads
@@RBTheMechanic I hear you, brother. I'm an amateur so I just thought to ask. 😂😂
@@BPoweredLove It's a good question. I'm getting ready to do the rear on my Lexus ES 350, and I wondered if PB Blaster might do it. RB has great ideas, as it is clear he is a pro. I love his videos as they are very helpful, and it is obvious he knows what he is doing.
@@jonrandall5490 I did them on the front. Simple. But I live in Phoenix and my 25-year-old Celsior (LS400) is a desert car (Palm Springs, CA then Phoenix) so it's non-corroded. Fairly shiny underneath.
I hope I didn't sound like a smartass in my original comment. I genuinely appreciate anyone who uploads helpful videos on RUclips.
@@BPoweredLove yes, your dry air is a huge help, no doubt. I also appreciate videos like RB the Mechanics. His videos are very clear and well done. Bravo to him ! Is the LS called a Celsior in other countries ?
I have a 2006 toyota camry makes clucking noise in the back an a small clucking noise in the front passenger side also what could it be? Only hear it when going over bumps an the bumps make my car go all over the place
I replaced motor mounts an cv axles already
If it’s metal to metal clicking sound it can be sway bar linkage soft rubber bouncing sound then defiantly sway bar bushings I would change them both linkage is like $45 each and busing under $20 set
@@RBTheMechanic safe too drive? Seems safe till i hit bumps then seems unstable
@@RBTheMechanic i notice my steering wheel moves when hitting bumps
@@kelseyrainwater3918 if it’s the linkage or bushing it’s not big deal but however it can be ball joint struts most dangerous is ball joint ever seen cars that stuck on road with wheels just fell off. That’s what happnes when ball joint brakes but linkage and bushing dosent cause problem I would have it looked at to see what it is
I used my wrenches to unbolt the swaybar and did away with it. No more. My emergency brakes are good enough.
Thats the noise my Ls460 makes while driving. Also when i go over a bump i hear a thump from the back.
Dejan Bukvic 5 check it’s most likely busing
@@RBTheMechanic well had it checked by 2 shops and bushings are great. Unfortunately its the Air Suspension so having both front replaced $1400 a pop.
Dejan Bukvic 5 wow expenciveee did u check the sway bar linkage
@@RBTheMechanic everything was tight. I also went on the Lexus form and saw the rattling is symptoms of a bad air suspension. Its about time for my car it has 119k so they last about 100k.
Dejan Bukvic 5 ok as long as it’s fully confirmed then go for it
Used a cigarette lighter to heat it up that's all is needed. Just a little heat out it came.
Larry Elliott nice idea!!!
The hottest part of the flame on a torch is the tip of the blue part so thats the part of the flame that should be touching what you want to heat, youre just smashing the whole flame on the part almost extinguishing the flame! WTFF
It’s ok we just want it hot nothing super seized
Hello i think i have the same problem
Ok check it see if it has play
Dear God finally😂😂 , I replaced the shocks and still 😅😅
Still noise
@@RBTheMechanic well all shocks have been change since they were bad , but a noise from the rear keep coming in and off , hopefully this bushings fix it
@@JC-kj3mi did u change strut mount as well?
@@RBTheMechanic yes and did a full front suspension and both cv axles
WD40 or any penetrating oil is saver on these parts with plenty of rubbers nearby.
I think this video is an example of what NOT to do:
1) Rather than immediately taking a super hot blow torch to the bolts (inches away from the gas tank), why not just spray some PB Blaster on the bolts and see if they will come loose after a few minutes of soaking. Usually they will. Much safer and less time wasted.
2) Many people will tell you NOT to grease rubber sway bar bushings (only polyurethane bushings); this is because the rubber should "grip" the sway bar so that under stress it will deform as designed and then "snap back" like a rubber band into is original shape; greasing the rubber bushings doesn't allow this to occur; also, you should never grease rubber bushings with an petroleum-based grease, only synthetic (and only polyurethane ones) because it will degrade the rubber; this is very important, but you never bother to mention it.
3) You also didn't torque the bushing clamp bolts to proper spec, or even mention it; this is also important, as over or under tightening any bolts on a car can cause a lot of issues; that's why every bolt on every car's service manual has a torque specification listed.
U can use mini ductor new heating technology no flames other wise u will brake the boltsPB blast wount work
Lol obviously somebody took never took welding fab and doesn't know what the Hottest part of the flame is
Well u can tell us
