OC - Had this bike for about a month now. Moving from a ninja 400, this is my grail bike. Its got everything that I wanted for the riding I do and will stay with me along the journey to become a better rider. The R7 is a nothing to prove, no frills bike. It is a forgiving mentor who shows you the kind of pure joy a bike can provide without resorting to mods/rider-aids like some of the bikes its compared to.

Bro Yamaha cut the R6 production for a reason. Because the costs associated with Euro5 homologation, and because of the ADV fever which has taken the world, the sales has really dipped for Supersport bikes. And plus 600cc bikes costs almost like a Litre bike. So the Euro 5 upgrade would have made it even more costlier. So Yamaha had to do it. But ya it's Yamaha's and our loss too losing the R6, I loved R6 more than R1 tho.

Currently have a 2015 R3, wanted to get into riding for cheap and I’m still in school so I just wanted to get something fun to ride around and be comfortable with. I was looking forward to upgrading to something bigger after college. But in the sport bikes, the insurance prices are very high where I live. When Yamaha announced their R7 I was hoping they’d make something more for the road than track, more accessible and that could close the gab between the R3 and the R6 (sadly it somewhat replaced the R6). So I’m pretty thrilled so see what they’ve made. Now I know what bike I’ll be buying next.

OC: I think if the R7 sparked a genuine drive to visit the track and improve your riding ability you should deff pursue that. I would advise against track prepping it mostly because you seem to enjoy the bike so much regardless of where you are and maintaining that street/track flexibility could turn out to be a more rewarding bonding experience for you and the R7.
I'll actually be 'downgrading' from a '19 Duc M1200S. In NYC summer streets, I'm just tired of getting my thighs cooked. I intend to street and track the R7. NYST is a sick technical track I think you'd enjoy if ever in NY btw.

They will have an R9 in the next year or two. That will be the real R6 replacement making similar hp while being more road usable. The reason for the R7 is then to have something a little more friendly for new riders who aren't ready for that power yet, or for people who just want the faired sport looks but will really just be riding on the street.
