Getting on a Hawaiian 717 island hopper has been on my to do list for quite some time now and I finally got the opportunity for a trip to the islands and a go on one them!
This has got to be one of the shortest commercial flights I’ve done at just 101 miles! We spent 21 minutes taxiing and only 23 minutes airborne. Departing Honolulu from the “reef runway” we turned right immediately out to see and towards Maui. Once on our way we were offered complimentary juice, tea or coffee very quickly before we headed back down and through some clouds on the approach into Kahului.
FLIGHT DETAILS:
Airline: Hawaiian Airlines (HAL)
Aircraft: Boeing 717-26R
Reg: N489HA
Age: 21 Years
Seat: 23F
Departure Runway: 08R
Cruising Altitude: 12,800ft
Arrival Runway: 02
Flight Number: HA196
Date: January 29th 2020
Distance: 101 miles
Route: HNL-OGG
Unfortunately the window was pretty dirty and water marked and during the approach the sunlight was beaming in making it pretty awful to film. But there wasn’t much I could do about it I’m afraid. Hope you enjoy the video despite of that.
As always by Full Flight I simply mean that the video includes every stage of the flight from departure until arrival and all points of interest inbetween. NOT that I filmed the entire flight and didn't stop recording once.
Thanks for watching this video!

1:50 ohhhhh i remember that plane, N477HA, it took me to hilo from honolulu and took me back home to honolulu from hilo the same day 12 hours apart!
great video!
Awesome video man! Really enjoyed it!
12:47 Gotta love that engine roar
Yes this engine is 2x BMW RR BR715
Meh. I'll take a Pratt & Whitney, JT8D over them. Now that's engine roar!!
yeah that sound is pretty cool, i was just humming it lol
So true man so true😍😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰
such a great views outside, amazing video!
Awesome video! =D
Awesome video man! Liked!
This is WAY bigger than the plane we were on in 2012.
I remember being so sick when I flew this last year and the short flight and change in pressure made my head want to pop. That delicious little thing of POG was awesome and made up for it. Just want to be back!
No I not sick my cough is broken But I got Bad white sauce in my nose
Taking this flight in late December. Memorable that this plane is a cousin of one of the planes that really ushered in the jet age for smaller airports . DC9-30/50
Some rare and exotic planes there. Some KC-10s visiting from McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey, I see.
I loved maui
I'm sure those KC-10 crews had nooo problems volunteering for a mission to Hawaii in February.
Excellent video have to say I’m a tad jealous 👍
What camera are you using?
The zoom is amazing!
hello gaiss hello pilot...take care...
it should be boeing 717. if i will fly again. 😎 🏝
nice big engine : 14:37 👍
17:22 . Have you taste it😛. Fly many times in France With VOLOTEA 717. Rare plane now
Nonexistent plane now.
@@benjaminbrown3939 only in Australia
how come the 717 doesn’t fly to los angeles or seattle or portland?
Depends on where it flies from, but it doesn’t have much mile range so you don’t find any 717s flying from Hawaii to LA or vice versa.
@@k.c.5312 true, i just realized that they don’t have the required range to fly for 5 hours straight
Fast over the street befor the jumbo comes. And all so high was fly of the plane not.
wow surprised these are still going.
What the 717?
@@FlyRunwayHeading yup
@@pooletrainboy that shouldn't be suprising but ok 😂
they're not all that old, built between 1999 and 2006
@@AndreiTupolev Ah there was me thinking they came after the 707's in the 60's or 70's.
I have seen some other clips of this airport. It looks like they spent themselves silly building an airport that is always almost empty.
What airport is empty? Honolulu?!
John Kaufman Daniel K. Inouye is an airport that receives millions of passengers every year. With Honolulu being a tourist hotspot and heavies filled with passengers arriving very frequently, I highly doubt that the airport would be almost always empty.
I presume he means Kahului.
@@Drawyah well Kahului is also busy, it's the second busiest from HNL!
Kahului Airport is incredibly busy. In the early morning it can be a little slow because flights from overseas haven't arrived yet but if you go there in the afternoon, you'll see that the place is actually quite crowded.
Neat video, but it shows a beef I have with Hawaiian. I've flown inter-island regularly for decades. But for the past 4-5 years Hawaiian has not bothered to clean the windows on its B 717s. . Disgusting. I hope your viewers realize this and not blame you for hazy video. Aloha!
