A really hard group, Czechs deserved their third place in the 1980 tournament just for qualifying in the first place.

In this group from 1978-79 Czechoslovakia were in great form with their mixture of veterans from Euro 76 (Ondrus, Panenka, Masny) and newcomers (Stambachr, Kozak, Vizek) but by the following summer they had run out of steam. Euro '80 came 6 months too late.

Not really - Sweden and Luxembourg were poor and the French blew it in their first game by drawing at home to the Swedes. For some reason Michel Hidalgo didn't play many of his 1978 World Cup team and experimented with a lot of fringe players. The key match was the Czech's win at home to France; that gave them the initiative.

No, it's even older. Original is from EURO 1976. The last penalty kick in the final match between Czechoslovakia and West Germany
