I am an American who was living in Tehran Iran 76-78 and got hooked on watching German Football. This brings back great memories. I learned about the game by watching some of the best of all time. Looking back now I feel it was an honor for the opportunity to watch such great masters of the game.

A classic tournament with every match going to extra time and 19 goals in 4 matches. Every game was played with skill and a desire to play football, attack and score - and there were good players in abundance. The Yugoslav crowds applauded every move and counter-move and everyone had a really good time. As Vaclav Jezek the Czech manager said, ‘Football was the real winner.’
Only highlights but this was a really exciting game. Good West Germany team beaten by excellent Czechoslovakia team. Mid 70s football just had something about it, great skill but without the modern day tactical nous spoiling the free spirited nature of teams.

The 'Panenka"; the Cryff turn; the Ardiles flick and the infamous Hand of God. Football moves that will forever be remembered.
First, That game was epic, how they play, how they keep running after being tackled, how they never tired to get the ball, amazing stamina. Second, Czech won with style, especially that memorable penalty from mr. panenka
I was a teenager in the 80’s reading a newspaper in Iraq and there was an article talking about this amazing final game. Many years after that I can watch this game on RUclips!
This is the first time I see a recording of this match with English commentary. Until 2008, I knew about this match only from hearsay; the goals, the penalty shoot-out (especially Hoeneß' penalty) were shown on TV when there was a tournament again. Then the match was released on DVD, and I had the opportunity to watch the entire match. Even though 32 years had gone since the match, it was exciting to watch it, and I suffered when I saw Hoeneß send the ball to the moon.

Remember watching this live but had forgotten a lot about the game in the intervening years (apart from the fact it was a great game) and even though these are only highlights, you can still see what a great game it actually was.
I admit I only knew the penalty shootout from this game and never (or at least not for a long time) saw the full highlights. Really missed something. No fooling around, both teams seemed to attack full speed over 120 minutes. Great fight, great technique, great goalkeeping on both sides, and everything in a fair manner. And a typical German comeback from far behind, though this time not successful in the end. Pure sports - and such a thing is best to watch with british commentary.
And what a difference with the modern game! In '76, they actually attacked, shot on goal, went forward all the time. None of that nauseating "possession football" that's dominating today.
I was 10 yrs old when this game sendt on TV .I still remember Ivo Viktor the goalkeeper who made the difference and he was the man behind that west Germany lost the European championship

Fantastic level of football. I’m shocked how good it is even by today’s standards. what a good team Czechoslovakia was. Ivo Victor was the number one goalkeeper in the world. Unsung hero. Unbelievable game. And obviously there was a penalty on Beckenbauer. But Czechs are the deserved winners.
In fact, eight of the starting eleven were Slovaks. Another Slovak (Jurkemik) came on as a substitute in the second half. Panenka, who became famous for his penalty kick was of Czech ethnicity and so was Ivo Viktor, an excellent goalkeeper indeed. My point is that it's not particularly sensitive to call it a Czech title. That would be like crediting all British Olympic medal to England. At the very least, both nations should get credit for the win.

Football was miles better then you hardly saw these players because there was so little football on television so when it was it was very special . Their wages were.sensible and there was less diving and moaning at the officials

Yes, but it was not the same. When Germany beat the Czech Republic, there were no more Slovaks as in 1976. On that occasion, the majority of players (up to nine) and the most important ones were Slovaks (with the exception of Panenka and Nehoda).
Not really now and again the Czech s have a golden generation euro 96 and 2004 Czech teams were great baros , poborsky , Berger ,koller ,Berger, nedved etc. etc.
They didn't have such soft penalties back then. Nowadays a defender only has to look at a striker and it's a pen. In other words players are a bunch of pussies these days.

У Чехословакии в то время была действительно очень сильная команда. Если учесть, что в 1/2 финала, а затем уже в финале, они , друг за другом "оставили за бортом" вице-чемпионов мира и чемпионов мира ,соответственно.
Another odd fact about this classic game is that for being a final some parts of the stadium are totally empty. Look at 20.13 just to the right and above of where Panenka's winning penalty is about to be taken and hardly anyone is there. Was there so little interest for such an important game?
@@MajidEed The simple truth is that the local Yugoslavs probably expected their own team to be there and prebooked tickets and when they lost in the semi their fans obviously didn't turn up.
Also in those days there were severe travel restrictions to / from communist countries. it would probably have been difficult for most Czech fans to leave their own country, and although Yugoslavia wasn't part of the "Soviet bloc" it may also not have been that easy for foreigners to get in and out of.
Apparantly Panenka told Ivo Viktor before the tournament that if Czechoslvakia got a penalty he was going to take it like that and Viktor was so shocked he thought of telling the manager. There was also talk of Panenka being disciplined as it was an 'uncommunist' way of taking a penalty.

Penalties: Sepp Maier was clearly a mediocre keeper, he jumped way too early. The CSSR team could have shot 20 penalties - he wouldn't have saved a single one.
The Krauts first goal looked a mile offside to me bonhof was a foot in front of the nearest Czech England beat them 3 - 0 IN the qualification England are the rightful euro 76 champions once again we have been cheated
