    I am Austrian, 12 years young back then ... I was a SUPER LEEDS UNITED FAN! Loved their game - and notice - it was 1975 - sooo different to "know" or "watch" a foreign soccer club ... and I love all the super players ... in that time LEEDS UNITED just had only NATION TEAM PLAYERS in the team! England - Wales - Scotland - Northern Ireland just heros in the team! And remember or let you tell you (younger readers :-) ) WE HAD THAT SUPER-SEMIFINAL: REAL MADRID - BAYERN MÜNCHEN ... FC BARCELONA - LEEDS UNITED .... Bayern went over Real Madrid - Lees went over Barcelona ... LEEDS UNITED was the super-big favourite for the final in Paris vs Bayern ... LEEDS dominated the whole match ... Bayern came 2-times before the LEEDS goalkeeper ... and scored 2 goals ... well ... then the Leeds fans oer "fans" droped down to the field their plastic seats ... and MY SUPER CLUB WAS BANNED FROM INTERNATIONAL GAMES for years ... all the stars left LEEDS UNITED of course ... A SUPER TIME OF EUROPEAN FOOTBALL ... Ajax ... Bayern ... Leeds ... Barcelona .... Real ... I WILL ALWYS REMEMBER MY STARS OF FOOTBAL IN THESE 1970s ... ♥

      Magic?? The defenders stupidly used to go all way backwards to defend against long high balls shot from midfield, instead of establishing an offside line. And terrible passing precision, the pitch was not so bad and the ball was already made out of polymers, but the players were playing as if they were in a horse corral and as the ball were a coconut.

Similiar happened in Athens 2 years before in the CWC Final. Greek crowd were angry when Milan tried a lap of "honour". At least Leeds have 2 Fairs Cups to their credit.

      Pretty idiotic, really. Put Leeds under more pressure than they already were. It's one thing to launch one during an unimportant league game on a rainy Tuesday night in Stoke, but when you're fighting for your life in a 'Big Cup' semifinal in the Nou Camp against Cryuff and Neeskens, you need all the help - and luck - you can get. Certainly don't need to be down a man. Plus, he missed the final. Not a smart move...

    My Dad supported Leeds, I supported Burnley at age 12, we would go to Leeds one week, Burnley the next. Kids would stand right on the wall literally about 6 feet from the touchline, Ralph Coates and Steve Kindon flying down the wing almost within touching distance. Burnley had a great team tehn fantastic attacking football. Moved to London when I was 18 and started supporting West Ham, Moore, Hurst, Billy Bonds, more great players. We would stand on the North Bank crammed in, the crowd swaying, moving up and down when there was a shot or a save, singing Bubbles, the adrenaline was incredible. They killed the game for me when it went all seating, just not the same now.

    You mention a team, Forest that did not even play in this period. Then you list teams like Derby, Arsenal, Liverpool who all had uncomprimising players. Leeds didn't just try to play football, they were the best footballing side in the country, by a long fucking way

    • @mizofan
      @mizofan 7 лет назад

      Oh Leeds were dirty and had class too. They had Hunter and they had Eddie Gray, who took a lot of fouls, they were a mix, neither angels nor devils overall. Forest did play in that period, of course, though not at top level- then Clough and Taylor worked wonders.

Notice Barca played out from the back and they were no soft touch thr 1st leg was brutal. They had the legendary Cruyff and Neeskens and Brazils Marinho from the '74 world cup team that still contained some of the 1970 legends minus Pele.

    Lorimer said "Cheating is the only way to describe what went on at the Parc de Princes 40 years ago. Sorry if that offends anyone but it’s how we felt. When it comes to apportioning blame, you’ve got to point the finger at the referee first and foremost. Great player though he was, Beckenbauer was well known for getting in the ears of referees. It’s what he did. I’d seen it when he played for Bayern and I’d seen it when he played for Germany. I’m still convinced that he was responsible for persuading the officials to disallow my goal in the second half. Uli Hoeness, their forward, was interviewed on TV and asked about 1975. In his own words, he said that the result was a travesty. The better team lost and they lost for no other reason than the performance of the referee. I can’t disagree.”
