Jimi Hendrix was one of those special few that is like a conduit for musical genius. He did things that inspired hundreds of the Greatest Guitarists of All Time. Jimi used a really cool delay effect and his classic Cry Baby Wah pedal for most of the song's solos. It almost sounds like he uses a slide technigue with the Wah to get the spacy, pulsating tone.
It could be that Hendrix just moved up one string against the other for the slide effect. He didn't need a slide; he was That Good! The Drums just have that pulse needed on this, The Bass and rhythm just send a beautiful theme going upwards and just plain FAR OUT! It blew your mind in August of 1968 and up to right now.
A masterpiece for the ages. His guitar skills are legendary! When this song came out in the late 60’s it blew us all away… and still does. SRV who was a teen when Jimi passed. Stevie approached Jimi’s Dad and asked if he would mind if he covered some of Jimi’s work. Stevie paid to remaster all of Jimi’s music then gave all the rights and proceeds to the Hendrix family. Did you know that Stevie’s brother who played at a show with Jimi got Jimi’s wah wah pedal from Jimi and gave it to his little brother SRV!

Yep, he played & sang. The guitar effect was produced by a "wah wah" pedal. It was a pedal hinged at the center & you rocked it back & forth with your heel & toe. The electrical signal from the guitar was routed through it back to the amplifier. The signal was distorted or changed somehow to produce that sound. Perhaps someone out there can explain the technical part of how the signal was changed. (probably with transistors, rheostats, flux capacitors or some such electronic wizardry). To see another excellent example of this device in action you should do a reaction to Stevie Ray Vaughn's "VooDoo Child" live performance.

The story I know: Jimi was at a party in London when someone came in with the new Dylan album, put it on the turntable. Jimi heard this song, got on the phone to his bandmates, grabbed the record, and recorded this song that night. There is a live TV video of a Jimi Hendrix Experience concert in Copenhagen a few weeks later where Jimi apologizes for not being able to play the song because " we don't know it well enough to play it live."
The percussion Crack you hear is called a Thwack ( not sure of spelling) played by Rolling Stone Brian Jones. The acoustic guitar is a 12 string played by TRAFFIC member Dave Mason. The bass is played by Jimi. The Experiance bass player Noel Redding had left the studio after an argument with Jimi so Dave Mason played the bass but at a future date Jimi re recorded the bass track himself.
The “CREAM” always rises to the top. That is what was said when three of the greatest musicians got together to form a new band in the mid 60’s. The guitar effect at the end is typically done by 'sustaining' the notes, while strumming the same note or closely related notes very rapidly--- In the '60's this would be done with an effects pedal on the floor. One of my favorite music stories is when Clapton and the Beatles went to their first Hendrix concert. Their reaction- “This dude is about to end our careers.” Jokingly because they became friends. But really, Hendrix was just next level.

Hendrix was a American singer-guitarist virtuoso who had to go to the UK to find success. His hard rock music was more like what was coming out of Britain than the US at the time. His initial band was made up of British musicians. Hendrix then rode the British Invasion, as it was called, to find success in his own country. He died in London, where he lived, from a drug overdose at the age of 27 in Sept 1970. His reputation continued to grow in death, especially in the US, on the weight of his performance at the end of the Woodstock movie that was released in the months before his death. Hendrix became legendary, even mythical, figure in death with many more posthumous albums than in his lifetime. He appeared on countless posters and is one of the icons of the the Woodstock generation.

Amy Whitehouse and I think Kurt Cobain also joined that club but I don't follow modern acts so I'm not positive on them. This is a great song by Bob Dylan that Jimi covered.Jimi was a great guitar player who sang as well..He has many great songs.Two more guys you may like who were influenced by Jimi are Robin Trower and Frank Marino.Frank Marino does a great cover of this as well .Look for Frank's version from 1979,it will blow you away watching it,as it is a live version.Thanks and peace!

The story I know: Jimi was at a party in London when someone came in with the new Dylan album, put it on the turntable. Jimi heard this song, got on the phone to his bandmates, grabbed the record, and recorded this song that night.
There is a live TV video of a Jimi Hendrix Experience concert in Copenhagen a few weeks later where Jimi apologizes for not being able to play the song because " we don't know it well enough to play it live."
The percussion Crack you hear is called a Thwack ( not sure of spelling) played by Rolling Stone Brian Jones.
The acoustic guitar is a 12 string played by TRAFFIC member Dave Mason.
The bass is played by Jimi. The Experiance bass player Noel Redding had left the studio after an argument with Jimi so Dave Mason played the bass but at a future date Jimi re recorded the bass track himself.

It' almost impossible to improve on Bob Dylan's performances but even Bob said Jimi's version is the BEST version of this song and I love Bob but I like Jimi's version the most and Paul McCartney has said Jimi is his favorite guitar player. I'm delighted that you obviously love good music!!
One of my favorite music stories is when Clapton and the Beatles went to their first Hendrix concert. Their reaction- “This dude is about to end our careers.” Jokingly because they became friends. But really, Hendrix was just next level.
It'll all relative, I guess... Jimi thought Terry Kath, of the band Chicago, was the better guitarist... So, there's that. Lets just say that at that level, it doesn't even matter anymore! To us, they were superhuman! ;-]

Hendrix was a American singer-guitarist virtuoso who had to go to the UK to find success. His hard rock music was more like what was coming out of Britain than the US at the time. His initial band was made up of British musicians. Hendrix then rode the British Invasion, as it was called, to find success in his own country. He died in London, where he lived, from a drug overdose at the age of 27 in Sept 1970. His reputation continued to grow in death, especially in the US, on the weight of his performance at the end of the Woodstock movie that was released in the months before his death. Hendrix became legendary, even mythical, figure in death with many more posthumous albums than in his lifetime. He appeared on countless posters and is one of the icons of the the Woodstock generation.

There are many great guitar players but Hendrix is the GOAT, without question the best guitar ever. Try "Voodoo Chile".

One of the first of the 27 club. Our brightest stars who died at the age of 27. Jimi, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison of The Doors. They had short but amazing careers. Amy Whitehouse and I think Kurt Cobain also joined that club but I don't follow modern acts so I'm not positive on them. Jimi's Hey Joe is a great song too as is Voodoo Child and his Woodstock performance is a must see too!
